S

o the year is off to a frantic but healthy start. It seems so many people are polarized these days instead of continuing to focus on their local communities, family, friends, and personal growth. We hope, as we all get into warmer weather, and out of our winter hibernating rutt, we can all get out and reconnect. And, that’s what the year 2020 is about for us at Grease Inc.

We have moved the studio over the insane holiday season. We are now in a 60’s diner we call Hell’s Kitchen in Marietta, GA, just a few miles away from the Big Chicken and the Marietta Diner. This location is in a local hub for us, and we are very excited to be here. Our immediate neighbors are Hellbender Harley-Davidson, who we have work with for years. The move was a great decision, and after much behind the scenes detailing, we are getting ready for the upcoming year. This issue covers our annual Ink n Oil awards for 2019. We want to thank everyone for their contributions in support of local kustom kulture businesses and brands. This is a great issue packed with many returning acknowledgements as well as some new. Unfortunately, there is one location on the list that the local community is saying good bye to after decades of memories and playing a role in the southeast’s underground music scene. Transitioning into our new location we have shifted some rides and are working at getting all of them on the road for this year, including our old girl, Bessie, the 1960 Ford Panel truck. We just traded with Southern Fried on a 27’ Roadster for our 60’s slammed Ford F100. We are looking forward to warmer for sure to role out in this old girl... Thanks to Skeeter for working with us on all these side projects and Matt in service at Hellbender Harley-Davidson.

6

We will keep things posted and updated on social media so you can check out all the progress. What? You are not connected to us? You got to connect on Instagram and Facebook now so you can see all the upcoming events as we announce as well as all the killer new projects we plan to launch this year, including the dashboard Confessional series. Make to like us: www.instagram.com/greaseinc/ www.facebook.com/greaseincmagazine/ Well, kick back and enjoy this issue. This one is packed full of some great articles and announcements including the Vagabond Side Show coming to Anderson, SC at Timms Harley-Davidson this spring with the Muckers and the Sideburners. It’s a lifestyle and who we are. Give us a follow and let us know when you have something going on in your area. Who knows, we just might roll in and be a part of it.

olly and Dotty has been a long time favorite brand of mine and I’m thrilled to feature this Sandra Swing Dress. This is a wonderful dress that gives you a business casual look that you can really enjoy wearing. This style is very comfortable and has a lot of stretch. The dress features two hidden side pockets that are large enough for your mobile phone and purse! It also has a fitted waistline with gathered built-in belt details that are so flattering, with 3/4 puffed sleeves. The bow neckline gives it a polished look. Of course it has a classic flared skirt that is full enough for a petticoat if you want to add one. I think this style is versatile enough to wear to work or you could dress it up more for a flirty fun date night. I paired it with boots because it has been cold, but heels would definitely be my choice for warmer weather! It is available in several gorgeous colors. Dolly and Dotty has a wide range of sizes from UK 8-26. They offer rockabilly, pinup, formal styles, and more. I know you will love their clothing and excellent quality. They offer wholesale as well as retail to their customers. Jewelry: Bow and Crossbones Turban headband: Banned Apparel Photos: Pinup Power Photography

What type of Music do you like? Soul, country, metal and glam rock, funk, hip hop, 90’s R&B What is your favorite Band? Hanoi Rocks Favorite Song? I recently rediscovered Unchained Melody (the Righteous Brothers version) and got obsessed with it again, so that was the first song that came to mind. I highly recommend checking out the YouTube video of the live version with Bobby Hatfield in the pink suit – such a flawless, stunning performance. Other than that, it would probably be something by Dwight Yoakam, Hanoi Rocks, or Jackie Wilson. What is your favorite Movie? Something About Mary because it has special meaning in my life; The Invention of Lying because it’s so clever What type of hangouts do you go to? Parks, trails, pinup/rockabilly events and festivals, and occasionally bars (preferably hole-in-the-wall types) and concert venues What is your Drink of Choice? Coffee! If you mean alcoholic beverages, Miller Lite. What is a Turn On? Compassion, generosity What is a Turn Off? Intolerance, control freakiness Do you change your own oil? Now you’re just being intrusive.

BEST DIVE BAR For another year, the Beer Barrel, located around the corner from the Big Chicken in Marietta, at 1294 Roswell Road, has been named best DIVE BAR of 2019! The Beer Barrel is your local watering hole where everyone knows your name. This is a joint where no one is a stranger by the time your visit at the bar is over. It's always 5 o'clock here at the Barrel, with locals bringing in crockpots of food for "happy hour", to stopping in for a few drinks as the day comes to an end and the evening begins... The Beer Barrel is the dive bar you can call home...

BEST LOCAL BAR The Highlander is a rock’n’roll dive with amazing gastro’punk’ food since 1992. “Serving booze and food as late as they’ll let us and having a damn good time doing it.” Located in Midtown Atlanta, the Highlander is close to a host of the city’s main attractions. In business since 1992, The Highlander has been a fixture of Atlanta’s late night party scene for over nineteen years. Open until 2:30 am most nights of the week, The Highlander features a full bar, great food, a fantastic patio and a full game room with pool tables, air hockey, pinball and video games for anyone’s enjoyment. In addition, live music is featured in the Highland’s game room about once per month - usually on Saturdays. The Highlander is most deserving of Ink-n-Oil’s Local Bar choice as we ran through the stories and history, it was remembered how one Halloween, several Car Bombs later, the owner and publisher of Grease Inc. missed a flight to Denver, CO due to having such a great time at the Highlander. Good times...

BIKER BAR AND PATIO/DECK The Rusty Barrel is named as Ink-n-Oil’s choice for Biker Bar for another year. The is never a day where you roll by the Rusty Barrel without a motorcycle in the front of this local dive bar. The Rusty Barrel is known for supporting the local scene with playing host to many charity rides, bike nights, and a great local hang out where you have the feeling of Cheers when you walk in. Check them out on any Thursday night in season and you’ll see just why they are Ink- n Oil’s top choice for Biker Bar for 2019.

BEST DATE NIGHT Hands down, one of the hottest spots in the Southeast is the infamous Clermont Lounge in the basement of the Clermont Motel. The Clermont Lounge is Atlanta's oldest strip club. Although the basement space began life in 1955 as an upscale supper club, it was reborn as the Clermont Lounge in 1965 and has become an Atlanta landmark. Located in the basement of the Clermont Motor Hotel on Ponce De Leon, the Clermont Lounge offers great entertainment, generous drinks and much, much more. A place where NO cameras are allowed, this allows for people to be a little more comfortable in this dive joint to be free of outside influence so you can be yourself!

BEST GREASY SPOON With great pleasure, it’s about time we get to announce the iconic Waffle House as the Ink and Oil Best of 2019 pick for Best Greasy Spoon. Anyone visiting the southeast has to be introduced to this local favorite based out of Georgia. Since 1955, Waffle House has served hundreds of thousands of locals and travelers with a tradition of short order cooks and limited staff with attitude, great smiles, good laughs and tons of great people watching. “The Waffle House is everywhere in the South. It has inspired country songs, comedy routines, loving editorials, a scene in the movie Tin Cup, and even web sites and Internet newsgroups that breathlessly post late-breaking developments. With more than 1700 locations in 25 states, as far north as Ohio and as far west as Arizona, Waffle House is cherished by thousands of diners. Regular customers speak of its employees, its customs, and its food with near reverence. Touring musicians have been known to eat five meals a week there. Yet the Waffle House is so pervasive, it is invisible. It does not advertise; it hides in plain sight.” - Jim Ridley

BEST LOCAL MUSIC VENUE: STAR BAR The infamous Star Bar, located in Little 5 Points, Atlanta, Georgia, is home to Rockabilly and Punk. The Star Bar has been an underground music icon for decades. THE STAR COMMUNITY BAR - “Best Dive in Little 5,” features MONDAY NIGHT COMEDY every week 8pm, every Tuesday THE LITTLE 5 POINTS DANCE PARTY with DJ MP3PO & QUASI MANDISCO 10pm, every Wednesday BIKE NIGHT AT LITTLE VINYL LOUNGE 7pm and LIVE MUSIC Thur–Sat (9pm–3am) every week! So many stories to tell from years of attending shows seeing national acts including Southern Culture on the Skids, the Woolly Bushman, Hillbilly Casino, Big Sandy, Drivin n’ Cryin, and more. Home of Bubbapolooza taking place every Memorial Day weekend in Atlanta, the Star Bar is the iconic dive bar. Make sure when you visit, to always kneel and give homage to Elvis and his shrine located in the vault. Now, in recent months, the Star Bar has now changed owners, and the future as a community bar is unknown. We do wish this iconic venue a new life of great success. Who knows the future, but those who has lived it, remember the past....

BEST CRUISE IN: DOWNTOWN SHOWDOWN Downtown Showdown in Albuquerque, NM has been nominated and presented with the best Cruise-In for the Ink-n-Oil awards, 2018. This show is amazing. Traditional Rods coming in from all parts around the West Coast to Mi-Western States. This is a strict show from the stand point of what is allowed to enter the show, however, it is one of the best laid back vibes you can ever receive from attending. From the kink off party at Joez Shop, to Downtown Showdown presented by Cecilia’s Cafe, just off of Route 66 in the heart of Albuquerque, to the after party at US Kustoms, Downtown Showdown reflects what being a rodder is about. So many prestigious rods all hand built by the guys who drive them. Slammed. Clean. Sharp. Fast Driving. These rods are some of the best rides we see all year. The best part about this show, everyone cruises together. They go out and enjoy the town and the lifestyle. Of course there is a little show boating that goes on, but most of it is kicking back, talking family and cars, listening to awesome music, enjoying some of the best food in New Mexico by Cecilia, and cruising down Route 66.

HONKY TONK BAND/AMERICANA: THE WAYMORES We are proud to recognize this class act of a duo and welcome to the Ink-n-Oil Awards as this year’s Honky Tonk Band choice, the Waymores. Comprised of the legendary Willie Heath Neal and Kira Annalise, this couple has traveled the world together performing. With influences by some of music greats; Waylon, Conway Twitty, Wayne “the Train” Hancock, these two whether on stage performing with their own projects or together as the Waymores, you are in for a show. The Waymores are the epitome of Acoustic Country Music: He was born in a cop car, lived in and out of foster care, and served in the Navy. Now they’re writing songs from the road and bringing their intimate, fun, and quirky one-liner-jabs to venues across the country. The Waymores take what’s real about life and relationships and add music, jokes, and whiskey; it can be beautiful, it can be painful, it can get inappropriate, and it’s completely unrehearsed, unexpected, and dangerously wonderful. HOT ROD BUILDERS: RUSTY NUTS ORIGINALS Rusty Nuts Originals are not your typical hot rod and motorcycle shop. They’re here because they love what they do and attitudes are checked at the door. RNO pride themselves on providing a comfortable environment for customers to ask questions and to get quality service done quickly at a reasonable price. Andy Parker, Owner Andy is an MMI Graduate with Factory Harley Davidson Certification. He is truly one of the best Harley mechanics in the country. Aside from repairing or making your bike perform better, he has a deep passion for creating whatever you desire...no matter what it is. He is a very experience fabricator with a flare for the tastefully abnormal. When it comes to cars, he is also no slacker. In fact, he really enjoys figuring out how just about anything works and repairing or improving it. Outside the shop doors, his favorite activities include volunteering at his church, hunting and fishing (especially pigs), wheeling mini bikes, telling Zach how old he is and just about anything with his wife, Merri and daughter, Josie. Nick Skarzenski, Owner Nick’s initial experience stems from working in the automotive racing industry building and fabricating complete cars and replacement components. His favorite part of his job now is working with customers to build motors tailored to their needs and desires. Not much is more therapeutic to him than taking flat pieces of sheet metal or tubing and hammering, rolling, bending, gutting, welding and grinding it into just about anything. His favorite outside the shop activities include hunting big game, camping, driving our altered drag car, shooting, winning friendly mini bike races at all costs and, most of all, spending time with his wife Toni and son Tristan.

SHADE TREE MOTORCYCLE SHOP: BOMB CITY CUSTOMS It’s always a pleasure of being able to travel nationwide and receiving invitations into shops of all levels and focus. BEST PAINTER/PAINT SHOP: CHARLIE TYRE OF RNO It is a pleasant announcement to see a great friend of Grease Inc. get recognized for years in his trade. Ink and Oil would like to present this year’s Best Paint Shop & Painter to artist, Charlie Tyre. Charlie has been painting for over 30 years in the industry. Once a sign painter, Charlie gravitates to his passion within his kulture with traditional pin striping, lettering, full body paint, airbrushing, and more. Charlie has created a very loyal following over the years, and even now teaches up and coming potential painters with special artist series pin striping classes at his shop and sometimes as an guest artist off location. Charlie is no stranger to the lifestyle, once as a motorcycle drag racer, this is not only Charlie’s life, it’s his passion.

BEST LOCAL SHOP: BLUE MOON CYCLES It is always good to recognize local shops, especially in such a ‘cut throat’ business where attitude is just as looked at as what you have to offer. Well, not only does this shop have an attitude, it offers so much more than any average shop, it is hard to believe we are lucky enough to play host to John Landstrom and Blue Moon Cycle in the Southeast. Blue Moon Cycle is a local shop nestled in old town Norcross, Georgia featuring some of the hardest to find motorcycles across the globe. Though John has a passion for his collection of vintage motorcycles, it is his wealth of knowledge and history that truly escalate Blue Moon to one of the best shops when it comes to motorcycles. From the war room to the balcony circling the entire top portion of the shop, Blue Moon Cycle either has what you are looking for or the knowledge to lead you in the right path to locate those impossible finds. Interesting enough, though vintage inspired, Blue Moon continues to set trends working with brands like Zero, an American based electric motorcycle and the Ural based out of Russia with an attractive price providing a great vintage look with sidecar at another attractive price. Check out Blue Moon Cycle at http://www.bluemooncycle.com/

BEST RETAIL: JUNK DRUNK JONES Junk Drunk Jones is a business that specializes in authentic vintage items, from vintage clothing and accessories, to old advertising goods and antiques galore. The perfect mix of lace and rust. Also carrying several lines of superior quality reproductions for those who are looking to get junk drunk on a budget! Opening their first store front in 2015 in historic downtown Canton, their family scours the country looking, hunting, and picking in every possible spot they can find. Their mission? “To fuel our own passion and collections of antique goodies, and to share that with our clients.” Primarily a father-daughter duo, but with lots of support from the whole family. Looking for something specific? “We either have it, have had it, or can find someone who does. Whether in person, or online, we welcome you to come get “Junk Drunk” anytime!” Every day should be a treasure hunt!

BEST MAKE UP ARTIST: KIMBER PORTMANN, ALWAYS PRETTY BY KIMBER The Kustom Kulture is no stranger when it comes to looking dapper as a guy and a bombshell as a lady. Known in the community is a lovely gal who is always looking her best, and loves to create great looking memories for the ladies so they are always pretty. Kimber is well trained in a plethora of fields! Starting in middle-school and though high-schoolm, Kimber was very active in the theater and helped with hair and make up for plays and musicals. At 16, she began working in Haunted houses doing make up and helping with set design. In her late teens, Kimber realized she was probably meant to have grown up in the 1950’s having such a great love for all things retro. Kimber is known and repescted for her talent in pinup hair and make up, as it is also part of her everyday life.
