Journey so far • Chose a product area for your major project • Carried out variety of research, including Disassembly, Visit and Expert Advice, Questionnaire - Evaluated your research and summarised the key points - Produced a Design Brief stating which specific products you intend to design and make and why • Next Step = Write a DESIGN SPECIFICATION for your chosen products

Design Specification What is a DESIGN SPECIFICATION? A DESIGN SPECIFICATION is a list of POINTS or CRITERIA that you will try and ensure your final design will meet when completed. In order to be able to EVALUATE your final product, your SPECIFICATION POINTS/CRITERIA should be •MEASURABLE •REALISTIC •TECHNICAL

Specification Headings Bullet point using the following format Form [FO1, FO2 etc] Function [FU1, FU2] User Requirements [UR1] Performance Requirements [PR1] Materials and Components [MC1]

Scale of production & Manufacturing [MU1] Sustainability [SU1]

Colours should match up with your mind map branches on page 1 of the folder.

Design Specification 2d/3d 1.

FORM

You need to describe what you will be aiming for with the look/appearance/aesthetics/style of your finished product. 4. PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

In this section, there will be some repetition with the previous one. What does the product need to be able to do and how well do you think it does it? What H&S labelling/consideration must your design need to think of?

5. MATERIALS AND COMPONENTS

In this section you need to describe the materials that might be used with each product and why they might be suitable.

6. SCALE OF PRODUCTION AND MANUFACTURING

In this section you need to say what will be the scale of production and how they product might be then manufactured. What is the printing and finishing methods that you might adopt. [cutting, folding and gluing]

7. SUSTAINABILITY

In this section you need to describe how you will try and ensure that your product will be sustainable and environmentally friendly. Where will the materials come from. How will the design allow itself the be disposed of when it comes to the end of its use?
