MEMBERS, THANK YOU! We were so thrilled and thankful for everyone that attended and supported our 98th Chamber Awards Banquet. It was a wonderful evening at the Boys & Girls Club with 300 attendees! This event was such a huge success due to the many partners and supporters.
First, I would like to thank Greg Roe and the Boys & Girls Club for allowing us to use their venue and also all of the manpower they provided for set up and clean up. They have continued to be a major support of the Chamber of Commerce and we are looking forward to returning to the Boys & Girls Club next year.
The event ran smoothly thanks to our co-emcees Ashley Main and Jason Allen with Grants Pass Broadcasting Corporation. The positive energy they bring is amazing! Many thanks to our members who donate specific items that made the event so special, from the cakes by G.G. Sugarplum’s, the linens from ALSCO, and the professional photos by Lori Mitchell of Mitchell Arts Photography. And of course a big thank you to The Glass Forge and NiceBadge who always do such a wonderful job on the awards.
Thank you to the many sponsors that financially supported this event from our Title Sponsor Pacific Power to Platinum Sponsors, Award Sponsors, Table Sponsors, and each individual that bought a ticket.
Our vendors are also incredible including Jes Webb of Sights & Sounds Unlimited for providing the sound and visual displays, Mary’s BBQ for the food, and Cat Bonney of Webb Mountain Arts for the PowerPoint, Video, and Program.
Clean up was much easier this year as we partnered with Southern Oregon Aspire. They did such a wonderful job.
And lastly thank you to our very own Christie Swafford for planning this event and all of the hard work she put into each item to make it shine. It was a huge success!
Congratulations to all of the award recipients. Each one of them has such a huge impact on our community. Thank you to everyone that nominated individuals and organizations. It was an honor to celebrate our business community.
Mark your calendars for February 16, 2024 for the Chamber Awards Banquet. We hope to see you there!
The Hivve has been buzzing for about four years now and is set to make some beautiful noise. The goal has continued to be to take a creative and innovative approach to coworking, community, and events.
The Hivve has 9 dedicated desks, 4 dedicated offices, and floating desks which are rented by the month. In addition, they open their doors to those who simply need a daily drop-in. There are 2 conference rooms which are also rentable for any length of time.
But where the Hivve really shines is in the larger event space upstairs. It can hold about 150 people, with a stage, bar, catering room, service kitchen, high-end sound system, multiple video screens, and lighting. They have the ability to shoot, record, and live-stream high-definition video, and to record audio of the highest quality. There is also a separate podcast studio available to rent with or without video.
“We created this venue to give musical and visual artists a place to tell their stories, and to
share a beautiful space with the community where people can meet for almost any reason big or small”, says Trever Yarrish, owner.
Also added to the mix as Venue General Manager is local musician and promoter, Michael Smith. Mike’s experiences managing Concerts in the Park, Storytellers Music Series, and many other events will help light up more frequent musical events.
“I am thrilled to work with Trever to help realize this passion project, a dream we share. We have some big plans in the works, including a reboot of the Storytellers Showcase, membership models, VIP giveaways, and much more. We can’t wait to share it all with you” said Mike.
You can follow their shows and events on social media, and enjoy great past concerts on their YouTube channel. Most rentals can be accomplished on-line, but an event coordinator is included in all conversations, for VIP level service. Contact The Hivve for a tour or to discuss your event needs.

Person of the Year
Title Sponsor
My name is Brittni Biller, and I am thrilled to be a part of such an amazing team at the Grants Pass & Josephine County Chamber of Commerce. My background is in Marketing and Business Development and most recently I worked for a Fortune 500 Title Insurance Company in their Business Development division. Prior to that I was the Project Manager for a local Non-Profit Organization that educates high school age students how to fund and operate their own community service projects in Josephine County.
Before making Grants Pass my home in 2014, I had traveled and lived all over the world from Hungary to Hawaii. I know from personal experience that there is no place like Grants Pass. From the climate to the people this place is special! I’m invested in this town and dedicated to supporting the people and local businesses in this vibrant community. Since moving here I’ve put down some deep roots that include meeting and marrying my wonderful husband Travis Biller and when I’m not working you can find us camping or spending time with friends and family!
In July of 2022, The Board of County Commissioners approved the Josephine County IT department to host Christina Berger, an ACC Lead for America AmeriCorps Fellow, to begin bridging the digital divide in Josephine County. The American Connection Corps (ACC) is an AmeriCorps program led by Lead for America and the American Connection Project, founded by Land O’Lakes and its partners. Serving with Josephine County as a Broadband Community Coordinator, Christina’s fellowship is sponsored by Tillamook Creamery. Digital equity in Josephine County is imperative for access to essential services, civil and cultural participation, education, and employment. Back in 2021, Josephine County did a joint survey with Jackson County to identify the need for broadband expansion in our region. With the help of host John McCafferty (Josephine County IT Director), Christina has organized a local Broadband Action Team with the commission’s support to drive digital connection-related projects throughout the county.
The Broadband Action Team is a collaboration of public and private organization leaders who are recognized as anchor organizations in the community. The following organizations have members on the Broadband Action Team or (BAT): Josephine County IT and Josephine County Emergency Management, Josephine Community Library District, Pacific Power, Southern Oregon Education Service District, IV Data Center, and AllCare health.
Through the partnership with SOESD, the BAT reached the homes of over 10,000 Josephine County students with the offer of the Affordable Connectivity Program benefit. In a similar effort through the Josephine Community Library District, email outreach advertised this benefit to roughly 22,000 friends of the library, along with an advertisement of the FCC mapping challenge. KAJO and affiliate stations have been running ongoing promotions about both opportunities. In addition, the local BAT is forming partnership opportunities with organizations attentive to closing digital gaps to initiate economic growth in our community. These opportunities include identifying areas of deficiency and seeking federal grant opportunities to overcome barriers in the region’s connectivity. The County has created a helpdesk at ACPhelp@josephinecounty.gov to assist locals with the ACP application process and has fielded calls through the IT department to assist in the FCC mapping challenge process. Digital skills, infrastructure funding, and access to devices are all significant motivations for the continued efforts of this team.

We had a packed meeting for our February YPN Professional Development. Our speakers were Superintendent Tim Sweeny from School District 7, Superintendent Dave Venezuela from 3 Rivers School District along with his Deputy Superintendent Casey Alderson. Many topics were covered, from balancing state/ federal mandates and policies to aging infrastructure. We learned that both districts suffer from lack of funding and licensed teachers to cover positions.
District 7 has worked hard to create a strong music program which is now proudly recognized all over the Northwest. Tim also announced that their flexible online learning program, GPFLEX is moving to an alternate site which will allow more opportunities for students. He expressed his interest in leaning towards a year-round model.
Three Rivers School District expressed the importance of “soft skills” and the process in which those skills are nurtured and implemented. Casey spoke on their Career and Technical Education (CTE) and the importance of strong industry partnerships.
Both districts agree that future schools must have flexibility for more personalized learning and inclusiveness. They both acknowledge that more mental health supports must be available along with abilities to pass a bond for increased funding.
Our next event will be our Quarterly Social on Thursday, March 23rd, 5:30pm-7:00pm at Climate City Brewing. This event is FREE and registration is requiredhttps://grantspasschamber.chambermaster.com/eventregistration/register/42515
