Nobel Laureate Prof. Muhammad Yunus, Mayor of Paris Ms. Anne Hidalgo and Etienne Thobois, President of Candidate Olympic City, Paris signing the agreement in Paris town hall on 8 November, 2016.

On November 8, 2016 Prof. Yunus and Ms. Ann Hidalgo (Mayor of Paris) together with Etienne Thobois (President of the Committee for Promoting the City of Paris as a candidate for holding the Olympic, 2024) signed a tri-partite agreement for integrating social business as a central pillar of the city’s candidature for the Olympic, 2024. The agreement was signed at a press conference at the Mayor’s office in the historic Hotel de Ville (Town Hall). At the press conference, the Mayor also announced that she has invited Prof. Yunus for hosting next year’s Global Social Business Summit in Paris to disseminate social business programs throughout the French capital

The Mayor announced Les Canaux- the house for Social and Innovative Economy, as the Social Business House dedicated for promoting and creating social business in Paris. Prof. Muhammad Yunus also inaugurated the Social Business Academia Conference on 9 November,

2016 hosted by HEC Paris, a leading business school in Paris, France and Yunus Centre at Jouy en Josas which continued till 10 November, 2016. The event was attended by 125 academics from 15 different countries. A social business movement was launched by HEC Paris with leading French companies as participants and more than 1000 guests in the audience. Business giants such as Danone, Veolia, Schneider Electric, Renault, Sodexo, Totale were among the others that addressed the event and participated in the movement.

Nobin Udyokta Program Achievement unlocked: 4000+ NU and counting Grameen Telecom Trust (GTT) unlocked another achievement by crossing the number of 4,000 Nobin Udyokta-NU (New Entrepreneur) through its NU program. GTT reached this height of accomplishment at its 131th In-House Social Business Executive Design Lab on 22 December, 2016.

Nobin Udyokta Program has created more than 3700 jobs beyond self employment. The program has lead to 7700 jobs creation in total and touching lives of more than 40000 people.

Embarking another milestone: 100 Design Lab Grameen Telecom Trust (GTT) laid another milestone in implementing Nobin Udyokta-NU (New Entrepreneur) program by organizing th its 100 In-house Social Business Design Lab. Since the introduction of the event on 8 March, 2015, GTT organized its 100th In-house Social Business Design Lab on 5 September, 2016 at Jobra, Chittagong also the birthplace of microcredit.

Program Support and the team members were also present on the occasion.

Screening Exercise Screening Exercise is the first stage of Nobin Udyokta-NU (New Entrepreneur) Program that scouts young and aspiring entrepreneurs who are children of Grameen Bank borrowers. It’s a day long group interactive exercise aiming to spread the message of the objectives of GTT, the idea of Social Business and the details of the NU Program among the entrepreneurs. Three (3) Screening Exercises are being SCREENING organized by GTT till 30 EXERCISE November, 2016.

Refreshers Training The objective of Refreshers Training is to enhance the skills of the existing employee, working in Nobin Udkyota-NU (New Entrepreneur) Program.

The 4th refreshers training was held at Araihazar unit office of GTT on 23 August, 2016 with seven (7) employees; four (4) from Bhulta and three (3) from Araihazar unit office under Narayanganj District.

On 5 September 2016, the field staffs of Grameen Telecom Trust (GTT) participated in its 6th Refreshers Training held at Jobra, Chittagong where Nine (9) staff members from Potia, Mirsarai and Jobra unit office participated.

IT Training Grameen Telecom Trust (GTT) has introduced IT training through Skype and e-viewer for the field officers of GTT who are working in Nobin Udyokta-NU Program. The objective of the training is to equip the staffs with modern technology that would enable them to deliver their work in a time and cost effective manner. It is conducted by the IT team of GTT from its headquarters to train the field officers from 27 unit offices covering 16 districts.

Future Investments Samajik Health Science Institute and Research Centre (SHSIRC) Open Architectural Design Competition A 3-day open architectural design competition was organized by GTT and GK in association with Institute of Architects Bangladesh (IAB) on 24 September, 2016. The aim of the competition was to finalize the master plan of Samajik Health Science Institute and Research Centre (SHSIRC) and detail design of Grameen Caledonian College of Nursing. Grameen Telecom Trust (GTT), Grameen Telecom (GTC) and Grameen Kalyan (GK) have jointly invested in the “Samajik Health Science Institute and Research Centre (SHSIRC)”, a social business enterprise comprising of 500 bed Samajik Medical College Hospital, Grameen Caledonian College of N u rs i n g a n d S a m a j i k H e a l t h Te c h n o l o g y Institute at Diabari, Uttara, Dhaka.

Ashraful Hassan were among the jury members.

Out of 36 participants, “ D e s i g n L a b Architects” (Ar. Md. Nazmul Haq Bulbul and team) was awarded first. “DWG” (Ar. Tanzim Hasan Salim and team) and “Lines Architects” (Ar. Mohiuddin Zilanee and team) obtained second and third places.

1st Board Meeting of SHSIRC The first Board Meeting of “Samajik Health Science Institute and Research Center� was held on 31 October, 2016 at Yunus Centre. The Board of Directors (BOD) w a s fo r m e d w i t h P ro f. Mohammed Yunus as the Chairperson. The other members are Prof. H.I. Latifee (Member, Board of Trustee, Grameen Telecom Trust), Ms. Nurjahan Begum (Member, Management Board, Grameen Kalyan), Mr. Md. Imamus Sultan (Managing Director, Grameen Kalyan), Mr. M. Shahjahan (Member, Board of Trustee, Grameen Telecom Trust), Ms. Parveen Mahmud (Managing Director, Grameen Telecom

Trust), Mr. Ashraful Hassan (CEO, Grameen Telecom Trust) and Mr. Kishwar Imdad (CEO, Samajik Health Science Institute and Research Center). The Chief Executive Officer of SHSIRC, Mr. Kishwar Imdad was also present in the meeting as ex-officio.

They were first greeted and briefed about GTT by the Managing Director of Grameen Telecom Trust, Ms. Parveen Mahmud followed by a presentation by Jayanta Ku m e r B o s u ( Te a m Leader, Social Business and Program Support, Grameen Telecom Trust) to ensure a detailed summary of the o p e rat i o n s o f G T T. Afterwards the delegates also visited Grameen POSHRA-a market linkage for NU and SBLIF projects, at the corporate office of GTT.

On 17 October 2017, a foreign delegation team, Mr. Eric Campos (Managing Director, Grameen Credit Agricole), Mr. Webnack Pascal (Chief of Administration, Grameen Credit Agricole), Mr. Alexandar Noel (Senior IT Management Consultant, USA) and Dr. Douglas Munzvengi (Researcher and Social Entrepreneur, Zimbabwe) visited Grameen Telecom Trust (GTT) to learn about its program and activities.

Board Meeting of GTT th

The 25 Board Meeting was held on 4 October, 2016 at the Board Room of Grameen Telecom Trust (GTT). The meeting started with a welcome address by the honourable chairman, Prof. Muhammad Yunus. It was followed by a report on GTT’s activities presented by Ms. Parveen Mahmud (Managing Director, Grameen Telecom Trust) and also the ex-officio. The meeting approved the proceedings of the previous meeting. The Board also discussed eighteen (18) agendas.

The 5 Annual General Meeting (AGM) was held on Tuesday 4 October, 2016. Honourable chairman, Prof. Muhammad Yunus welcomed the members present at the meeting with warm greetings. The meeting started th with approval of the previous (4 ) AGM proceedings. A progress report on Grameen Telecom Trust’s (GTT’s) activities was presented by Managing Trustee Prof. Muhammad Yunus and on behalf of GTT’s trustee board. The th 5 AGM discussed and approved 5 agendas.

With the growing size of the company regular Employee Inductions are being organized by Grameen Telecom Trust (GTT) for newly joined employees of GTT. The Induction is designed to acquaint the new employees with the Vision, Mission and Goal of the organization. Presentations were given and brainstorming sessions were held to give a better insight on the innovative concept of Social Business and the activities of GTT.

Ms. Parveen Mahmud (Managing Director, Grameen Telecom Trust) inaugurates the program and gives guidelines on how to strengthen the team of GTT by being a valuable asset to the company. The department heads were also present during the event and shared their views and experience of working with GTT in their respective departments. The 9th Employee Induction of GTT was held on 16 August 2016, with thirteen (13) new employees of Grameen Telecom Trust (GTT). The 10th Induction took place on 1 November, 2016 with Thirty-Eight Field Officers under Nobin Udyokta Program. With this the total number of field officers working for NU program has crossed 200. On th 27 November, 2016 the 11 Employee Induction took place at the premise of GTT.

Participation in International Weavers Festival Grameen POSHRA participated in International Weavers Festival, 2016 held at Army Museum, Dhaka from 17-19 November, 2016. Grameen POSHRA exhibited its products in their stall at the festival and had many visitors and customers all throughout the 3-day festival.

GTT Abroad The 4th Social Business Academia Conference (SBAC) was held at HEC, Paris, France on 9-10 November, 2016. SBAC is held each year to review the theoretical and practical implications and potential of the Social Business Concept. A research paper titled “Social Business Fund in Scaling up Micro Enterprises in Bangladesh: A Case Study on Nobin Udyokta Project� authored by Dr. Farhana Ferdousi (Assistant Professor, Southeast

University) and co-authored by Ms. Parveen Mahmud (Managing Director, Grameen Telecom Trust) and Mr. Jayanta Kumer Bosu (Team Leader,

Social Business & Program Support, Grameen Telecom Trust) was presented by Ms. Parveen Mahmud at SBAC. The research was conducted following Ordinary Least Square method for a regression analysis to determine the relationship between the growth of the firm and social business investment fund and also its relationship with employment generation. The overall finding suggested that social business investment fund positively impacts the growth of the firm which leads to more employment generation. The research is based on primary empirical findings and the secondary phase of the paper has already been started by the same authors.

One Young Summit Ms. Nusrat Jahan Alam (Assitant Officer, Finance and MIS) of Grameen Telecom Trust participated in this year’s One Young World Summit 2016 held in Ottawa, Canada. One Young World founded in 2009 by David Jones and Kate Robertson is UK-based charity that gathers together the brightest young leaders from around the world, empowering them to make lasting connections to create positive change. They stage an annual Summit where the most valuable young talent from global and national companies, NGOs, universities and other forwardthinking organizations are joined by world leaders, acting as the One Young World Counselors. At the Summit, delegates debate, formulate and share innovative solutions for the pressing issues the world faces.
