DOG FRIENDLY HIKES

May 3, Outdoor Recreation, H15 Having a dog doesn’t mean missing out on a good hike! Outdoor Recreation found 6 dog-friendly hiking trails that dogs and dog owners are sure to love. In fact, dogs can be great companions for hiking as long as they are in good physical shape and owners take the necessary precautions to ensure a safe hike. Price: $12/person

May 4-6, Community Activity Center, B40 Head to the Mother’s Day Bazaar May 4-6 to pick up something special for mom! Vendors from all over Europe will be there selling wine, cheese, pottery and more.

KAYAKING IN LITTLE SWITZERLAND

May 6, Outdoor Recreation, H15 Kayak on the inviting streams of Upper Franconia while exploring the beautiful nature in an idyllic setting with Outdoor Recreation. After some basic skill instruction, take white-water boats down a 12-kilometer stretch of river, whose rapids never exceed class two in difficulty and are the perfect setting for an introduction into this exciting watersport. 5 BREWERIES HIKE

May 13, Outdoor Recreation, H15 Enjoy the spring air while tasting a few of Germany’s most delicious beers! The Funf Seidla Steig (Five Beer Hike) is an approximately 10-kilometer brewery hike located in the Little Swiss region of Upper Franconia, which travels through beautiful surroundings while visiting traditional Frankish beer breweries. Accordingly, participants can purchase a stamp card at the first location that allows them to purchase a commemorative Funf Seidla Steig beer krug at a reduced rate at the end of the hike. Price: $39/person

46th ANNUAL GERMAN-AMERICAN VOLKSFEST

May 17-21, Hohenfels Festplatz Break out the Lederhosen and Dirndl and get ready to party as Hohenfels kicks off its 46th Annual German-American Volksfest! The event is intended to strengthen ties between the Hohenfels Military Community and the surrounding towns by bringing people together for fun and festivities.Besides beer, brats, burgers and bands, the fest features carnival rides and games for all ages, and each day offers some special excitement.

USAG BAVARIA HOHENFELS GOLF TOURNAMENT

May 19, Hilzhofen These Golf tournaments are conducted annually and receive teams from Grafenwoehr, Vilseck, Garmisch and Ansbach. With some of the best greens around, you’re not going to want to miss out. The tournament is open to the first 18 teams to register, so stop by the Hohenfels Post Gym and register your 4-person team today.

ÖTZTAL ADVENTURE WEEKEND

May 19-22, Outdoor Recreation, H15 (Register by May 12) Join Outdoor Recreation for a four-day adventure and camping weekend located in the Ötz valley in the Tirol region of the Austrian Alps. SALZBURG BIKE + HIKE + MINE TOUR*

CYS “ALL STAR” PROGRAM

Our staff work very hard to make sure that Children are well cared for and have every opportunity to grow and develop. The ‘All Star’ program is set up to show staff how much we appreciate them and recognize their tireless efforts of caring for our Children and Youth. Please help us by writing ‘star notes’ for excellence that you see. Each facility has a special location for the ‘All Star’ cards to be posted. At the end of each month, the cards will be collected and an award will be given for the caregiver who has the most ‘Star Cards’.

SURVIVAL GERMAN 101 May 2-5, 5:15-7:15 p.m., B10A An introduction to German will make it easier for you to order food in restaurants, shop, travel, ask for directions and understand German doctors. You will simply feel more comfortable living in Germany. This could be the best use of 8 hours of your life ever. IMPORTANT NOTE: These are sequential classes that build on each other. Course consists of four two hour classes.

SURVIVAL GERMAN 201 May 8-11, 9:30-11:30 a.m., B10A The continuation into German (Level 2) that will add greater confidence, vocabulary and enlightenment into your German language ability. It makes sense to speak the language if you live here, right? So take advantage of this FREE second level program.

BABY BOOT CAMP May 9, 16, 23 & 30, 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m., B10A If you think about it, the reason for Boot Camp, really the reason for any kind of training is to get ready for the ‘main’ event. This 7-part rotating program answers questions most books and programs don’t. Geared for parents-to-be, this workshop covers topics such as birth certificate process in Germany, breast feeding, personal expectations, bringing baby home and much more.

FRG LEADERSHIP TRAINING May 10, 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., B10A Anger is a natural emotional reaction, but if not managed well, it can cause many problems from health issues to relationship issues, including your husband or wife. Is your anger hurting you? Understand that there are at least ten styles of expressing anger. Learn which one is yours and how you personally deal with conflict. Learning more effective ways of dealing with conflict may just help you live a happier and more peaceful life.

A hands-on interactive class that teaches the importance of goal setting, finding out your net worth (shows how much you owe compared to what you own), budget setting techniques, a reality check (do I really spend what I think I spend?), setting up a spending plan to follow your budget, and debt reduction strategies.

Get some special help and insight into writing civilian and federal resumes and cover letters which are valuable in doing what you need done: separating you and your resume from everyone else’s. We’re also discussing best practices in locating federal jobs using USAJOBS, as well as other important tips to getting noticed and hired!

HALLO HOHENFELS NEWCOMERS ORIENTATION May 16-19, B10A

This is the place to be if you’re new to the community. In addition to learning some German language, you will explore local communities (including a bakery and butcher shop), discover Mobelhof, a huge home decorating store and spend the final day site seeing in Regensburg. Find out how your new community works without doing everything yourself and make some new friends at the same time. Special DOUBLE bonus: a visit to the epicenter of the rotations: the “Star Wars” building and a visit to the training area, a “Box Tour.”

OUTDOOR CLIMBING Every other Tuesday starting May 9 Sport Climbing (rock climbing on cliffs with pre-installed protection) is one of the fastest growing adventure sports worldwide that demands both mental and physical fitness. Join Outdoor Recreation for weekly climbing evenings to learn about equipment, safety systems, efficient movement techniques and mental training for climbing success. Climbing locations will change weekly depending on ability levels of participants. Gear included. Price: $25/person

EVENINGS AT THE LAKE Every other Tuesday starting May 2 Paddling with Outdoor Recreation on the Steinburger See is a great way to spend the warm Bavarian evenings! Choose between canoes, kayaks or paddle boards while exploring the lake’s tiny islands, the clean and wide swimming beaches or the water-side restaurant. Small blocks of boat-specific instruction are available upon request. Boat, gear and transport included. Price: $29/person

THURSDAY NIGHT BIKE RIDES

Thursdays, Outdoor Recreation, H15 The Hohenfels Outdoor Recreation Mountain Bike Club rides the fantastic single track trails on post to help each other gain the skills, practice and friends to participate in the Race Series Circuit. Rides are designed to accommodate a range of abilities, but will be physically demanding. Price: free to ride, half-off bike rentals

Learn about the different kinds of stress and how problematic stress an affect your mental and physical health.
