International Print Mail Project and Exhibition organised by Grafein Foundation MEETING UP After a successful first edition, Grafein Foundation organised an Open Call for the second edition of the International Print Mail Art Project (IPMAP) between January 1 and April 15, 2022. This year's theme was MEETING UP. Artists from all over the world were invited to send their artworks in a postcard format (10x15 cm) to the Netherlands. All manual printmaking techniques were accepted, as well as other media in combination with printmaking. Similarly to the first edition, the intention of this project was to inspire and connect people, ideas, and places through art, with printmaking in focus. We received 290 artworks from 34 countries, all giving us insights into the personal visual explorations of the artists that created them. An array of familiar printmaking techniques was used to make them: linocut, woodcut, wood engraving, etching, drypoint, aquatint, mezzotint, screen printing, lithography, chine collé, collagraphy, monotype, stencil, digital print, etc. Some of the artists have used a printmaking technique in combination with other media, such as collage, drawing with pencil, ink or coloured pencil, acrylic, watercolour, gold foil, hand stitching, stamps, etc. The exhibition The exhibition of the International Print Mail Project 2022 MEETING UP is organised in the heritage monument Amstelkerk, located on the characterful Amstelveld near Reguliersgracht, Kerkstraat, and Prinsengracht, in the heart of the city center of Amsterdam. It is taking place from 1 - 26 August 2022. This unique space is a perfect setting to show all artworks together and to admire the various artistic approaches and the contemporary use of the different printmaking techniques. Connected through the language of art, these artworks bring us closer to the personal artistic explorations of their creators and their ideas and interpretation of this year's theme MEETING UP. About Grafein Grafein initiates, facilitates, and participates in projects in the field of printmaking in the Netherlands and abroad. Our goal is to keep professionals and the public, makers, institutions, and collectors interested in printmaking, because we see printmaking as an important contemporary art form with its own visual language and history. The foundation wants to achieve this goal by organising events, special exhibitions and projects in the field of printmaking, expanding and supporting the network of printmaking professionals.
