Calling All Young Adults (Sept. 19) Join us for The Episcopal Church 101 Class and Dinner this evening, Sept.

19, 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. This will be a laid back evening of learning more about The Episcopal Church. Ever wondered where all the vestments live? Or what’s inside the niche in the wall of the Sanctuary? We will gather at 5:30 in the church for a tour of the worship space and a time of Q&A. After a short service of Compline, we will travel together to Huey’s midtown for dinner.

Parish Hall Forum (Sept. 22) Memphis at 200 with Dr. Tim Huebner (Session II) This year marks the bicentennial of the founding of Memphis. But what does the history of Memphis have to do with how we live as people of faith in our community? Join Dr. Tim Huebner, Calvary Church parishioner and Professor of History at Rhodes College, as he explores the deep and long history of Memphis. Come for breakfast in Trezevant Hall beginning each Sunday at 8:45 a.m. and stay for the Parish Hall Forum at 9:15 a.m.

Wednesday Lunch (Sept. 25) Wednesday Lunch Fellowship (formerly 39ers) is a daytime gathering for all adults. We meet monthly for social time, a catered lunch, and program, all for only $6. Our next meeting is Wednesday, Sept. 25, beginning at noon for social time followed by lunch at 12:30. No program this month.

Exodus Parish Retreat (Sept. 27-29) Last Chance to Sign Up! Exodus is a Friday to Sunday excursion for GSL parishioners to The Gray Center, an Episcopal Camp and Conference Center north of Canton, MS. In the beautiful lakeside setting of Camp Bratton-Green, participants can connect with God and fellow parishioners, and do as much or as little as they want. This year we have 2 awesome adults-only lodging options: The Inn and The Cottage, as well as the cabins which are for adults & children. Sept 20-22, Jr. High DOY (Division of Youth) weekend retreat at Camp Bratton Green.

Take Note Inspired: A Skeptic’s Guide to Reading the Bible (Oct. 9, 16 & 23; 6 – 7:30 p.m.)

Why would God tell Abraham to kill his own son? Did Moses actually defy the laws of physics in the parting of the Red Sea? As author Rachel Held Evans writes, “If the Bible isn’t a science book or an instruction manual, then what is it?” This three-week course will discuss how to read the Bible in a new way.

Doubters, questioners, and cynics welcome. (Class limited to 20 participants.

Vestry Nominations Now Open

The GSL Vestry is the elected lay leadership team of fifteen (15) people who collaborate with the Wardens and the Rector to support the mission, administration, and ministries essential for operating as a parish of the Episcopal Diocese of West Tennessee. Nominations for five (5) open Vestry positions may be received through Sunday, October 6, and must be followed by a Nominee Information Form no later than noon on Friday, October 11. The Vestry election will take place at the Annual Meeting of the Parish on Sunday, November 24, at 9:30 a.m. in Trezevant Hall. The Nominee Recommendation and Nominee Information forms may be directed to the Vestry Nominating Committee online, via email to Nominating Committee Chair, Kurt Patton (kurt_patton at yahoo.com), or via hand-delivery to the Parish Office. Forms are available online at (www.gracestlukes.org/news/vestry20-22) or in the public spaces at Grace-St. Luke’s.
