A Message from the Rector" UPDATE regarding the COVID-19 Outbreak and Mindfulness at GSL This morning, the diocesan clergy had a conference call with our bishop, The Right Reverend Phoebe A. Roaf, to discuss diverse options for how to proceed in our respective faith communities with Sunday and weekday offerings in ways that are safe, reasonable, and permissible by health professionals, government officials, and church leadership. While some communities already have closed facilities, a majority of the larger Episcopal and other congregations in the Memphis region have elected to offer the same or similar offerings for Sunday, March 15. Throughout The Episcopal Church and in almost every space worldwide, teams are making painful short and long term decisions, including how to offer programs online or remotely, reduce aspects, and even cancel events until more is known about the overall situation of the pandemic.

Young Adults “Signs of Life” Lenten Study On Thursdays in Lent, the young adults at GSL will gather to study the “Signs of Life.” This curriculum is provided by Virginia Theological Seminary in conjunction with the Society of St. John the Evangelist, an Episcopal monastery in Cambridge, MA. The series reflects on the themes of Light, Water, Food, Shelter, and Community and their importance in sustaining our lives of faith in and outside of the church. We will continue to gather on Thursdays (March 12, 19, 26, & April 2) from 6 - 7:30 p.m. using group discussion, individual reflection, and worship as our guides. Wholehearted Parenting: Raising Compassionate, Resilient Children in Beloved Community Grace-St. Luke’s Episcopal Church and School Present a Retreat for Parents and Educators—Wholehearted Parenting: Raising Compassionate, Resilient Children in Beloved Community, Grace-St. Luke’s School Library, 250 Lemaster Street, Anchor Center

Sunday, March 29, noon to 4 p.m., Dr. Susan Campbell will offer an extraordinary retreat for GSL, Memphis parents of youth and children, and educators. Reservations are required and childcare is available. Earlier on this day, Grace-St. Luke’s Church Parish Hall Forum, 9:15-10:10 a.m., presents “Building Compassion and Resilience in Beloved Community: A Conversation with Dr. Susan Campbell on the Methodologies of Dr. Brené Brown.” Retreat online registration of $15 includes lunch and refreshments: www.tinyurl.com/WholeheartedParenting. Easter Flower Deadline If you would like to make a donation in honor of or in memory of a loved one for Easter flowers, you may send a check to the church office (ATTN: LUCY) listing the names of those you would like remembered.

These names will be listed in the Easter leaflets if received before April 3. For your convenience, you may also pay online at www.gracestlukes.org/onlinegiving/. Select the "Make a donation for altar flowers" link under "Memorials and Honoraria."

Important Altar Flowers and Eucharistic Supplies Notice Grace-St. Luke’s provides two meaningful ways to remember loved ones during worship services: altar flowers and Eucharistic supplies given in their memory or honor. Flowers are $215 per Sunday, which one or more persons may share in giving, and Eucharistic supplies (wafers, wine, candle oil) are $25 per week.

To explore and make payments to reserve available dates, including dates that may hold significance and have been reserved by you in the past, contact Parish Administrator Linda Stine (901-252-6324, lstine@gracestlukes.org). Your request must be made no later than two weeks in advance of the desired Sunday; further in advance may show more available dates.

Once the date is confirmed, please issue payment for the appropriate fee (listed above) either

online or mail it to the parish office. Your donation must be received for the reservation to be considered complete, and for the acknowledgement to be printed in the Sunday leaflet.

GSL Ministry Areas Offering Something For Everyone. In addition to worship, the Vestry and the Clergy-Staff Team invite all able-bodied individuals to identify at least one way to get involved in the sustainability of Grace-St. Luke’s, and have released “Parish Life Ministry Areas” online (www.gracestlukes.org/news/parishlifeministryareas) and for pickup in the public spaces. For more about ways to invest in life at GSL, contact Stewardship Associate Chapman Morrow (901-252-6328, cmorrow@gracestlukes.org).

Sober Living Art Auction Rescheduled The March Messenger featured an Outreach article about Sober Living which included their March 20 art auction. The art auction has been rescheduled for Friday, Oct. 16 at the Botanic Gardens.
