A Message from Dr. Patrick A. Scott, Director of Music and Organist This coming Sunday marks an exciting day for me for a couple of reasons: (1) I’m happy to be able to play my first organ recital at Grace-St. Luke’s and (2) following the recital the Grace-St. Luke’s Choir & Clergy will offer a service of Choral Evensong. Evensong (sung Evening Prayer) is possibly my favorite service in the Episcopal Church. The music, the peacefulness, the thoughtfulness, the liturgy, all of it combines to create one of the jewels of the Anglican tradition. A mostly sung service, the choir will offer sung prayers, a Psalm sung to traditional Anglican chant, Herbert Sumsion’s setting of the Magnificat (Song of Mary) and the Nunc Dimittis (Song of Simeon), and the great anthem of Epiphany Light, “Holy is the true light” by William Harris. Won’t you join us for this exciting afternoon of great music! Pre-Evensong Recital: 5 PM Choral Evensong: 5:30 PM
