Preparing for Advent: The Church New Year
Friday greetings, Grace-St. Luke’s! From Pentecost to Advent: Green to Blue. Pentecost, our longest and “green” season on the church year calendar, culminated on Christ the King Sunday, November 22. For Advent, GSL and many faith communities worldwide adorn worship spaces with Sarum “blue” (color historically associated with the Virgin Mary, waiting, patience, images of the sky in Advent scripture). This change of color in the paraments for the chancel and sanctuary and the presence of the Advent wreath with five symbolic candles are among a variety of changes that come with this new season.
