All Things Financial (from the Vestry Stewardship Team) Special thanks to Allison and Steven King for joyfully stepping up to lead our 2020 stewardship fundraising campaign, and to so many of you who already have submitted pledges to support the operating budget for this year. Your commitment not only helps assure we continue to have a great worship experience, but also enables us to fulfill our daily operation, in-reach and outreach program, staffing-need, and property care goals.

As is typical at this time of year, we still have a number of pledges that are not yet in hand. If you have not had a chance to complete your pledge, please help us by doing so as quickly as you are able. Our Treasurer Bev Trojan, the Finance Committee, and Parish Administrator Linda Stine are currently hard at work finalizing our budget for the year, and would love to hear from you! This Week and Beyond

Mayor Strickland, Wednesday Lunch Speaker (Jan. 22) Mark your calendar for the first GSL Wednesday Lunch Fellowship of 2020 when Mayor Jim Strickland will reflect on “The State of Memphis and Hopes for 2020.” A daytime adult gathering, the Wednesday Lunch Fellowship (formerly The 39ers) meets almost every month for social time at Noon followed by 12:30-1:30 catered buffet lunch ($6) with a brief program by special guests.

Parish Hall Forum (Jan. 19) This week's Parish Hall Forum topic is The Beloved Community and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with The Rev. Ollie V. Rencher.

The Parish Hall Forum for Jan. 26 is “Just City” Memphis with Executive Director Josh Spickler.

New Offering: Men's Six-Week Fellowship

Thursdays through Feb. 13, 7-7:45 a.m.

All men are invited to join GSL church member and school parent, Doug Duncan and the Rev. Ollie V. Rencher, rector and chaplain to the school, for a weekly evolving conversation about spiritual growth, faith and doubt, current events and concerns, intellectual stimulation, and thoughtful living in a fast world. This relaxed but lively fellowship will gather in the first floor Lounge at GSL Church. Breakfast snacks and coffee provided. You do not need to commit to attending all six weeks. Drop in any time! Women's Retreat (Feb. 21-22) Save the date for the annual Grace-St. Luke’s Women’s Retreat on Feb. 21-23 at St. Columba Retreat Center. This year, we thrilled to announce the Rev. Katherine Bush and Mrs. Shari Ray as our facilitators. Katherine+ and Shari will share a portion of the curriculum for their beloved and highly-regarded “Meaning of Life” course taught each year at St. Mary’s Episcopal School. Watch for further details and registration info in next week’s publications!

Outreach

Care Like King—MLK Days of Service (Jan. 17-20) Volunteer Memphis is sponsoring a community-wide effort to honor Dr. King’s legacy through service projects. There are plenty of opportunities to serve in a manner that fits your schedule and interests from Jan. 17 through Jan. 20. Just go to the Volunteer United website (tinyurl.com/MLKDaysofService2020) and sign up. Allison and I will participate in the “Beltline Project” cleanup of a vacant lot at 427 Boston (38111) on Jan. 20 starting at 11 a.m. Jim Drummond, GSL Outreach Commitee

Please note: On King Day (Jan. 20), all visitors to the Civil Rights Museum receive free admission. Guests who donate canned goods to King Day Food Drive receive $2 off one future museum visit in 2020. Guests who donate to the blood drive benefitting Vitalant receive free King Day admission for four people with express entry to bypass the line PLUS additional free admission for four any day in 2020. Calling all Volunteer Gardeners!

The Community Table Garden, a recipient of a GSL Outreach Grant, is an organic community garden located on Madison Ave. Community Table grows safe, healthy food for our most vulnerable neighbors and has just completed its 6th season of growing. The organization just completed and its first full season supplying produce to the Grace St. Luke’s food pantry.

Community Table is pleased to have GSL as a partner in serving those in our community who need healthy, fresh produce. More at www.gracestlukes.org/news/calling-all-volunteer-gardeners.
