All military recognized at GHS Veterans Day program Dear Veterans: You have served our country. Kept us safe. We thank you for that. I don’t care if you are in the Marine Corps, in the Army, in the Navy, in the Air Force, or a Coast Guard. We just thank you. Signed, Michael Hendricks That simple note of appreciation pretty much summed up everyone’s feelings during a Veterans Day program held on Friday, Nov. 9, in the Gallatin High School gym. Michael Hendricks and other Searcy elementary students presented letters expressing their gratitude to the service men and women during the assembly, and fifth graders sent cards to the Veterans Home at Cameron. The program recognized veterans and service members from Gallatin and across the area. Veterans Day is officially recognized
on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, Sunday, Nov. 11. Guest speaker at the assembly was Sergeant Zach Douglas. Zach’s wife Taryn is a coach and physical education teacher at GHS. Sgt. Douglas reminded students of the crucial role played the Missouri Army National Guard and some of its more famous members, including Charles Lindbergh and Harry Truman. Other speakers were Tayton Terry, Addison Burns, Karley Salmon, Zoe Bradford, Graydee Rains, Zoe Bradford, Markay August, and Jacob Wilson. The Gallatin High School Choir sang the national anthem
and a Salute to the Military Branches. Gallatin High School Band played American Spirit March and the Middle School Band played American Fantasy. Haven Gibson and Silas Giles performed the Posting of the Colors. After the assembly, middle and high school students formed a reception line for their honored guests. At the close of the ceremony, all veterans and active military in attendance were invited to attend a reception in the library hosted by the Gallatin Daughters of the American Revolution. Amy Holder was recognized for organizing the event.
