R obert B ennett 1926 - 20 18 Robert Bob Bennett, 91, Kidder, formerly of Hamilton, Pattonsburg, and California, died on Feb. 7. Funeral services were held Feb. 14 at Bram Funeral Home, Hamilton. Interment was at Highland Cemetery, Hamilton. Robert was born on Dec. 15, 1926. Survivors include children, Nathan Bennett, Alturas, Calif., Douglas and Jason Bennett, both of Cameron, Linda Humes, Florida, and Katie Lyons, Deepwater; and numerous grandchildren. C larence V. G lenn 1933-20 18 Clarence V. Glenn, 84, Bethany, formerly of Gilman City, died Feb. 5, 2018, at a Bethany nursing home. He was born Feb. 14, 1933, in Ridgeway, the son of Vernon and Mabel (Morris) Glenn. On Dec. 8, 1956, he married Joan Graham at Mt. Zion Church in New Hampton. She survives of the home. Clarence served in the Army. He was a trustee for Fox Creek Township, a member of Immanuel Baptist Church of Bethany, and had served as treasurer for the Mt. Pleasant #1 Baptist Church. He was a farmer and a general contractor.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Clinton Spanky Starmer; sister-in-law, Reva Glenn; and brother-in-law, Wayne Buzzard. Survivors include his sons, Daniel Glenn, Trenton, Raniel (Angela) Glenn, Bethany, Samuel (Karen) Glenn, Trenton; daughter, Regina (Justin) Glenn-Cash, Shawnee, Kan.; brothers, Clark Glenn, Carl (Martha) Glenn, both of Bethany; sister, Annie Buzzard, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; and11 greatgrandchildren. Vernon L ee H anes 1935 - 20 18 Vernon Lee Hanes, 82, Lake Viking, died Feb. 4 at Quail Run Health Care Center in Cameron. Funeral services were held Feb. 7 at Resthaven Mortuary. Burial followed in the Resthaven Memorial Gardens. Vernon Lee Hanes was born on June 8, 1935, in rural Grundy County to Vernon Lenton and Sarah Pearl (Turley) Hanes. He graduated from Gilman City High school in 1954. Vernon was a row crop and livestock farmer in Grundy County his whole life. He was a very active member in his community and was a member of Coon Creek Baptist Church. Vernon was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Charles Robert (Bob), Lawrence, Gary, and Wayne Hanes; and grandson Dallas Hanes. Survivors include his sons, Mark Hanes and wife Debbie and Steve Hanes of all of Tren-

ton; daughter Joyce Eads and husband Randy of Coffey; six grandchildren; and nine greatgrandchildren. B aum gard ner 1932 - 20 17 John Frederick Baumgardner, Captain USN (ret), died on Dec. 8, 2017, in Virginia Beach, Va. A memorial service with full military honors was held at Horton Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, Va. John was born Jan. 29, 1932, to Dr. Paul and Bobby (Pugh) Baumgardner in Coffey. John enjoyed a well-decorated 30-year naval career including command of six ships in the Pacific and saw extensive combat action. He received the Legion of Merit, two Bronze Stars with “V”, National Defense Service Medal with star, Joint Commendation Medal, Navy Unit Commendation with star, Meritorious Service Medal, various combat actions awards including Vietnam Service Medal with 13 stars. John graduated from Coffey High School in 1950, and Missouri University. After retirement from military life, he taught and served as dean of Central Texas College. John was survived by his wife Sheila; his children Rick, Bobbi Ann and John Michael; sister Beverly Ward; and brother Paul Baumgardner.

Dean Cordell Earnest 1932-2018

Dean Cordell Earnest, 85, Gilman City, passed away Feb. 5, 2018, at his home in Gilman City. Graveside services and burial with military rites were held Feb. 8 in Oaklawn Cemetery, Oakland, Iowa, under the direction of Roberson Funeral Home, Bethany. Dean was born May 18, 1932, in Oakland, Iowa, the son of Solomon and Ina Mae (Dethlefs) Earnest. They preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his step-father, Harvey Kaus; and brothers, Max and Jack Earnest. Dean served in the United States Air Force. He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Auburn and worked as an engineer. During his retirement, he worked at several antique shops. Dean loved collecting antiques and enjoyed nature. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed cheering on the Auburn Tigers and the Kansas City Chiefs. Dean is survived by his sons, Kevin Earnest, Springfield, Va., and Chriss (Yumiko) Earnest, Chiba, Japan; daughter, Stacey (Jim) Hasler, Watkinsville, Ga.; and two grandchildren, Sydney and Jessica. Margaret Smith Townsend, 83, Gallatin, passed away Feb. 7, 2018, at North Kansas City Hospital after a very difficult battle with pneumonia. Memorial graveside services will be held at the Lick Fork Cemetery this spring. Cremation and services have been entrusted to McWilliams Funeral Home in Gallatin. Margaret was born Feb. 1, 1935, in Lock Springs. She was the daughter of John C. Smith and Mary E. Burton. She attended high school in Gallatin, where she played volleyball and graduated in May of 1953. She married her high school sweetheart Donald L. Townsend on March 6, 1953, and shortly thereafter the couple moved to Kansas City. Margaret initially was hired by a cleaning supply house where she sharpened her clerical and business skills. In1954 her husband Don was drafted and served two years in the Navy on a Landing Transport Ship in the Pacific Ocean while Margaret stayed in Kansas City. On July 31, 1955, Margaret was hired by Procter & Gamble where she had a long and distinguished career. She rose through the ranks becoming the head cashier of the Kansas City Accounting Office and supervised numerous employees. She received many accolades for her outstanding work and many a senior manager was known to have said that if they ever started their own company, they would want Margaret Townsend to be their first employee. While at Procter and Gamble, Margaret made many lifelong friends who loved and respected her. She retired on July 31, 1992, after 37 years of outstanding service. In 2000, Margaret and Don moved back to their home town, Gallatin, where Margaret became involved in the Daviess County Business Women's Organization. She loved their monthly meetings and was very proud of the scholarships provided to Daviess County young women through the years Margaret loved dogs (especially Brittany Spaniels), an occasional cat and her flower and vegetable gardens. She and her husband Don loved to take their dogs bird hunting for pheasant, chucker and quail. They hunted for the past 45 years at the Lone Pine Shooting Preserve in Toronto, Kan., and became lifelong friends with Mike and Beth Hamman. Her flower and vegetable gardens were always beautiful, and she worked hard to make sure they were. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her loving husband of nearly 65 years, Donald Townsend; nephew, Larry Townsend and his wife Martha, and very dear and close friends, Paul and Debbie Beck. Freddy (BJ) Jones, 33, Gallatin, passed away Feb. 9, 2018. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, at the Lake iking Church near Gallatin. isitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Freddy was born Aug. 2, 1984, the son of Fred Jr. and Karen (Wessley) Jones in Chillicothe. He graduated from Gallatin High School in 2003. After high school, Freddy began working as a lead spray foam insulator for Beyond Insulation, where he was employed for five years. He moved to the Kansas City area where he worked as a skilled carpenter and member of the Kansas City Carpenters nion. Freddy was a handyman, a ack of all trades. Freddy was united in marriage to Hannah (Schneider) Jones on March 14, 2015, in Kansas City and the couple made their home in Overland Park, Kan., amongst several other places before settling back in Gallatin, where Freddy aspired to plant roots and build his family. Freddy and Hannah attended Westside Church in Leavenworth with Ed, Freddy's father in law, and also en oyed attending the Lake iking Church with parents, Karen and Fred Jones. His hobbies included playing disc golf, wrenching on cars, en oying nature, and collecting Hot Wheels. His true passion was raising and loving Amirah as his own. He greatly en oyed spending time with his wife and with his family. He en oyed all of the simple things in life. Freddy will always be remembered for his love of family and ability to make anyone smile. We can no longer see you with our eyes, touch you with our hands, but we will feel you in our hearts forever. Survivors include his wife, Hannah; parents, Fred and Karen Jones; step daughter Amirah Hood; sisters, icky Jones and fianc Jason Kastanek, alarie Jones; paternal grandmother, Bonita Plumb; mother in law, Peggy Todd; and father in law, Ed Schneider; brothers in law, Ben and Paul Schneider; sisters in law, Shannon Schneider and Megan Todd; nieces; nephews; and a great niece.
