Dear friends, It seems 2022 is getting away from us because here we are in June already! I hope you’re finding a way to stay cool and enjoy all the sun and fun summer brings. Here at GPB things are heating up too! There’s no summer break when it comes to bringing you the best public media has to offer across an array of platforms. Let’s start with television – The time-honored Mark Twain Prize returns to PBS this month on Tuesday, June 21 this year honoring comedian and talk show host Jon Stewart. But that’s just the start. This June also brings the return of two beloved PBS dramas, Broadchurch and Endeavour, as well as the premiere of the new drama Alibi, described as a rollercoaster of love, murder and lies. Intriguing! On the nonfiction side of things music fans will enjoy a deftly crafted episode of American Masters focusing on musician Brian Wilson on June 14 and the launch of the new eightpart cooking competition The Great American Recipe on June 24. And I couldn’t leave you without teasing the return of The Vicar of Dibley, one of our favorite Britcoms, to Saturdays starting June 18. Turning toward Radio, we’re excited to welcome NPR’s Tiny Desk Contest Tour on June 7 as they stop through Atlanta for an evening at Aisle 5 in Little Five Points. And, radio meets community engagement with GPB’s exciting launch of StoryCorps’ One Small Step, a nationwide initiative to help bridge the political divides and strengthen conversations. To round out this issue of GPB Next you’ll also read about our education division’s new virtual learning experience of the Andersonville POW Museum, lots of fun ways to engage with us and a highlight of GPB’s nominations for this year’s Southeast Emmy Awards. At GPB (and in GPB Next) there really is something for everyone. I’ll close with this reminder – GPB’s fiscal year ends on June 30 and your consideration of an additional gift to help us meet year end strong is greatly appreciated. Every dollar goes to more great programming and opportunities for us to engage, educate, enlighten and entertain you! Thanks for all you do!
