Your support is vital to GPB’s mission of providing, insightful, entertaining and educational content. Here’s a snapshot of the many ways you helped us bring meaningful experiences to our audiences over the past year.
KEN BURNS

Highlights from PBS programs this year included Benjamin Franklin and Muhammad Ali, two documentary series from noted filmmaker Ken Burns examining the place and influence of these indelible figures in American history and culture. Additionally, the much-beloved series Antiques Roadshow marked its 25th anniversary with a special “Best of 25” that showcased some of their most memorable appraisals.

The GPB Original Series Georgia Outdoors premiered six new episodes, which included a tour of the largest food forest in the nation, the Urban Food Forest at Browns Mill, a visit to an elephant sanctuary in southwest Georgia and a show featuring host Sharon Collins’ travels with her trusty canine companion Jessi. Your Fantastic Mind explored maternal mortality and PTSD among African American mothers in an episode that is among the nominees for this year’s Southeast Emmy Awards.



GPB News provided comprehensive coverage of stories across Georgia and helped educate voters through our weekday program Political Rewind and weekly podcast Battleground: Ballot Box. The Georgia Today bi-weekly e-newsletter kept readers informed on everything from public policy to public health. Additionally with the launch of the e-newsletter Georgia Today Politics: Featuring Bill Nigut, GPB News shared analysis from the Gold Dome along with the sharp insights of Political Rewind host Bill Nigut and legislative reports from the Lawmakers team.
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
GPB is committed to engaging with communities by creating opportunities for conversation around our programming content and partnering with other organizations to help bring awareness to important issues impacting our society.
This past year we hosted a virtual event featuring Finding Your Roots Lead Genealogist Kimberly Morgan which focused on marginalized populations and shared tools for those interested in finding out more about their family history. Attendees were also invited to participate in an additional workshop where they could speak with local experts and share findings.

GPB also hosted the StoryCorps Mobile Tour in Columbus in partnership with VisitColumbusGA and the Chattahoochee Valley Libraries. Additionally, through a partnership between the Georgia Division of Family & Child Services and the Inclusivv organization, GPB held A Vision for Child & Family Well-Being in Georgia, a series of virtual conversations on topics including economic opportunity, quality education, health care and our individual roles in supporting Georgia children and families. GPB also hosted a Back To School Family Movie Night featuring Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood and early childhood experts discussing ways to handle the anxiety of going back to school.

PROVIDING LIFELONG LEARNING TOOLS
As Georgia’s digital media content provider for the classroom, GPB Education regularly conducts outreach efforts that include professional learning for educators, family engagement initiatives and Mobile Virtual Reality (VR) lab visits that provide Georgia’s students the opportunity to utilize immersive, engaging technology as part of the learning process. Since July 2021, we have reached over 4,500 teachers, students, and families through these efforts.
In partnership with the Georgia Department of Education, GPB Education launched Classroom Conversations, a podcast series that provides a platform for teachers to discuss topics ranging from a positive classroom climate to new math standards and more.
Additionally, GPB Education partnered with the Georgia Department of Education and HOPE GIVERS founder/ CEO Tamlin Hall for Hope Givers, a wellness series available nationwide through PBS Learning Media available to use in middle school and high school classrooms across the country free of charge. The series has just been nominated for a Southeast Emmy Award.
