My gradual transition from designing cakes to hand building ceramics has been natural and full of creative adventure. I take my inspiration from gardens, nature, and a love of surface design. I hand carve my own stamps to randomly imprint patterns.

1526 Nunamaker Road, Hood River, OR BrianChambersPhotography@gmail.com BrianChambersPhotography.net

As a full time resident, photographer, and explorer of the gorge since 1997, I love this spectacular area. The art of landscape photography allows me to spend time watching the moonrise, viewing the Milky Way, enjoying a sunset, and being immersed in nature. I am constantly searching for that magical combination of interesting subjects, sublime light, and pleasing compositions which combine to create the final image. Brian is a founding member of 301 Gallery in downtown Hood River. His work can be seen there year-round.

My acrylic paintings are done in what I call my “stained glass” style where the subject matter is broken up into what I think of as cells. These cells are then painted in with numerous layers of paint giving the appearance of stained glass window.

I start with natural fiber clothing, which I dye using my own uniquely created colors. I create designs that I then handpaint. My paints are made from pure pigment to match the dyes. I hand dye, paint, print, and bead each piece. During Covid, I went down a rabbit hole of upcycling furniture. I love refinishing and painting pieces with chalk paints. There will be a selection of my furniture available for the tour weekend. My studio sits atop one of the most scenic spring vistas in the Gorge.

Directions: Don’t rely on GPS! From I-84 take exit 69, follow the road into town. Turn right on Washington Street, go one block to 3rd, and turn left. Follow 3rd until out of town and it becomes State Road. From the bridge on State Road, my driveway is two miles on the left. You’ll see 1537 on a tree — address numbers DO NOT go in order. My driveway is just after 1550 that you see on the right.

The Dalles Art Center: 220 E 4th Street, The Dalles, OR daiva@studiodbh.com www.StudioDBH.com

My story begins with memories of childhood — going to work with my father, an upholsterer, surrounded by bolts of fabric, and passing time in my grandmother’s hardware store, poring through piles of wallpaper books and playing with colored paint chips. I see the world as a plethora of patterns, textures and colors. I have found my creative expression in fiber art and textile design. My two dimensional work includes handmade felt used in different ways and disperse dye on fabric.

Directions: This artist is showing at The Dalles Art Center for the Gorge Artists Open Studios tour weekend. From I-84, take exit 85 and turn south away from the river. Go .2 miles, turn right on East 2nd. Go .7 miles, turn left on Washington, go two blocks. The Dalles Art Center is on the right in the former Carnegie Library, corner of 4th and Washington. Parking is on the street.
