I am a free-spirited quilter who uses fabric, fiber, color, and texture to express my art. My studio is set up in an inviting and simple style with different stations to illustrate my processes and final results. This allows me to showcase the designs themselves and answer any questions my guests may have about art displayed.

Directions: Take I-84 Exit 64 and go south on Highway 35 approximately 11.6 miles. House is on the right. Watch for signs. We have plenty of parking with easy return to Highway 35. Open year-round by appointment

Sally Bills Bailey is known for her paintings which reflect her love of mountains, snow, trees, and wilderness. Winters spent in the Southwest bring warm colors, and dynamic rugged landscapes. Sally’s work utilizes BOLD SHAPES AND BOLD COLORS which she achieves by using lots of pigment and not much water. Sally has received numerous national awards as a Signature member of the National Watercolor Society (NWS), as well as several other recognized associations.

I paint primarily wet-in-wet, as I love the look of transparent watercolor. I live in the forest zone, off grid. I am continuously inspired by the natural beauty that surrounds me: landscapes, cloud formations/mist, foliage, fruits, flowers, birds. My work can be seen at 301 Gallery (3rd and Oak, Hood River) year round, as I am a founding member of this artist cooperative.

Directions: From I-84 take exit 64, and turn south to Hwy 35. Continue on Hwy 35 about 17 miles. Driveway comes off the highway to the left (east) one third mile past Baseline Road. Driveway is 0.9mi long. Follow signs to studio.

Parking: Follow the “parking” sign; lots of room. If disabled, go past the sign all the way to the house. Open year-round by appointment

361 Ponderosa Place, Mosier, OR myrnafanderson@gmail.com

My acrylic paintings are done in what I call my “stained glass” style where the subject matter is broken up into what I think of as cells. These cells are then painted in with numerous layers of paint giving the appearance of stained glass window.

Directions: From I-84, take exit 69. In town, turn right on Washington Street and then left on 3rd Street. Turn right on Huskey Road immediately after concrete wall. Ponderosa Place is the second right off Huskey. I am at the top of the hill in cul-de-sac.

Jan Byrkit

1537 State Road, Mosier, OR janbyrkit@gmail.com https://byrkitwear.com

I start with natural fiber clothing, which I dye using my own uniquely created colors. I create designs that I then handpaint. My paints are made from pure pigment to match the dyes. I hand dye, paint, print, and bead each piece. During Covid, I went down a rabbit hole of upcycling furniture. I love refinishing and painting pieces with chalk paints. There will be a selection of my furniture available for the tour weekend. My studio sits atop one of the most scenic spring vistas in the Gorge.

Directions: Don’t rely on GPS! From I-84 take exit 69, follow the road into town. Turn right on Washington Street, go one block to 3rd, and turn left. Follow 3rd until out of town and it becomes State Road. From the bridge on State Road, my driveway is two miles on the left. You’ll see 1537 on a tree — address numbers DO NOT go in order. My driveway is just after 1550 that you see on the right.

My story begins with memories of childhood — going to work with my father, an upholsterer, surrounded by bolts of fabric, and passing time in my grandmother’s hardware store, poring through piles of wallpaper books and playing with colored paint chips. I see the world as a plethora of patterns, textures and colors. I have found my creative expression in fiber art and textile design. My two dimensional work includes handmade felt used in different ways and disperse dye on fabric.

Directions: This artist is showing at The Dalles Art Center for the Gorge Artists Open Studios tour weekend. From I-84, take exit 85 and turn south away from the river. Go .2 miles, turn right on East 2nd. Go .7 miles, turn left on Washington, go two blocks. The Dalles Art Center is on the right in the former Carnegie Library, corner of 4th and Washington. My work is living. The experience of painting for me is a process of reaching from within the abyss. This transforms me in the creation of each piece. You as the viewer can experience a state of being, which creates a relationship with the painting. As you change, so does your experience of the painting. My art has been my discovery process. I am a spiritual seeker and teacher. I am forever humbled by the path and maintaining the beginner’s mind.

Directions: From I-84 East towards The Dalles, take exit 84 toward City Ctr/The Dalles. Merge onto W 2nd Street, follow 0.3 miles. Turn left onto W 3rd Street for 0.4 mile.
