Stand On the Word

Who said it would and will be easy? With four children and four different personalities, I am always trying to satisfy them all—but who am I to always get it right?

I relentlessly give my all to my children, no matter what. There is no favoritism, only four different personalities I must do right by— showing the right road to walk down, cross, and do not go down—to the best of my ability.

This is a full-time job that can be trouble-free, uncomplicated, loving, backbreaking, tough, and doubtful—all in a number of minutes.

The fear of most parents is that their children will not become better than themselves. They must stand strong in the Word of the Lord, “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it” (Proverbs 22:6).

Our children may stray for a while, but nevertheless, they always return just as the prodigal son. There are many stressful real-life situations that legal guardians must face, but one main scenario is telling your children no to protect them.

As they grow older, they do everything in their power to turn that no into a yes—no matter who and how it hurts the household. Stand on the Word: “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind” (James 1:2-6).

As parents, patience and faith supersedes the tears, outbursts, and unyielding moments.
