The Grand Finale

This past July 4th, I went to a firework show in my hometown. One beautiful display of color after another lit up the night sky. Then there was silence and darkness which seemed to last forever. I heard someone say, “You mean that’s it… no grand finale?” I said to that person, “There is always a grand finale…just wait for it, it will come.” I knew the organization that had provided this grand illumination for our pleasure would not leave us expecting more! Then I had to ask myself, “Am I looking to the skies for the grandest finale of all time or am I living as though that day will never come?”
Sadly, many Christians have a lack of excitement for the coming of the Lord and have become complacent. Just as the parable how to boil a frog describes, “You cannot place a frog in a pan of boiling water, it will jump out, but you can place a frog in a pan of cool water, and little by little increase the temperature. The frog then becomes relaxed and complacent in the warm steam bath. Once the water begins to boil and the frog realizes he’s in danger it is too late!”
We are instructed in the manner in which we ought to live in 1 Thessalonians 5:5-8. The return of Christ is near and may we all become more vigilant as The Day approaches. May we live with a renewed sense of urgency in our relationships with both God and man. May we be a witness to those who are lost, so that the day of the Lord will not come upon them as a thief in the night.
Our Father in Heaven has promised that this world of decay and the battles we fight in our flesh will one day come to an end. I can assure you He will not leave us expecting more, just as the person who funded the grand firework extravaganza did indeed provide a grand finale. But the real grand finale comes when Christ appears in the clouds. Though that day seems to tarry, “just wait for it…it will come.”
“Immediately after the tribulation of those days, the sun will be darkened and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory” (Matthew 24:29-30).
