Safekeeping

28 // April 2020 by Zebbie Brewster About The Author Zebbie Brewster resides in Summerville, Georgia. She is an active member at Perennial Springs Baptist Church. I had good intentions when I was cleaning out the trunk of my car. I needed it to be organized so I could find things I needed. In the process of organizing, how did I misplace or lose my keys? Now I would have to take time from my organizing and find that set of keys. It wasn’t like this had never happened before. Can you feel my pain? My car is an older but faithful model, and I try to remember to thank the Good Lord for blessing me with her every day. But she and I aren’t going anywhere soon without those keys. So, for the moment, I will need to stop, pray, and think. I will get back to you on this a little later in the story. For now, I want to share with you about another person who also lost a thing of value to them. Luke 15:4-10: “What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it?And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing. And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbours, saying unto them, Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost. I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance. Either what woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, doth not light a candle, and sweep the house, and seek diligently till she find it? And when she hath found it, she calleth her friends and her neighbours together, saying, Rejoice with me; for I have found the piece which I had lost. Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.”

That which was lost had been found. Oh, I love that story. The Bible tells us in Luke 19:10, “For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.” Jesus is seeking to save that lost soul. Mark 8:36-37: “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?”

Once you give your heart and life to Jesus, He keeps your soul. You are no longer that lost sheep wandering about without hope or purpose. John 10:27-30: “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand. I and my Father are one.”

Now that is what I call safekeeping. Jesus is trustworthy! I am thankful that on my last occasion to misplace my car keys, after stopping, praying, and thinking, I found them within the hour. God is good, and He is good all the time.
