Reflection

by David Strickland W e are all created to be a reflection of our Creator. I am a child of God, so I should be a reflection of my Heavenly Father. When others see me, they should see a reflection of Christ.

I love the picture of Mickey Mouse looking in the mirror and drawing his self-portrait. As he begins to draw, he draws a picture of his creator, Walt Disney. Many times, we say our biggest enemy is the person we see when we look in the mirror. This is a lie that I used to believe, but I’m beginning to realize this is another tactic of the enemy. When I look in the mirror, I should see my Creator because He created me in HIS image and not my image. These three short but simple verses in Ephesians 4 show us how to live the new life we have in Christ.

“To take off your former way of life, the old self that is corrupted by deceitful desires, to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, the one created according to God’s likeness in righteousness and purity of the truth” (Ephesians 4:22-24). • Take off your former way of life To do this means to “throw off everything that hinders” (Hebrews 12:2). Anything that hinders us and the sin that causes us to stumble must be thrown to the side. This is something that is not always easy, but it is always necessary. It’s easier to walk through life not carrying a heavy load, and when we throw everything off our backs that is hindering us, we will be able to walk better. Transformation changes us and the whole way we live. When we begin walking in the Spirit, we are then able to understand what the will of the Lord is (Romans 12:2). • Put on the new self

Putting on the new self means putting on the one that was created in the image of God (Genesis 1:27). We were created in His image in both righteousness and purity. The old man is in conflict with the new man, and this causes us to look different when we look in the mirror. We can now become our biggest fan because we no longer see our own selfish desires, but we see the one who created us. The one who created us will always have our best interests at heart. Nobody Mickey Mouse to succeed more than Walt Disney. Now go look in the mirror and reflect the image of your Creator.
