CARDIFF

Cathays Dental Clinic State-of-the-art treatment With so many dental practices available, how do you know what sets one apart from another. We’ve done the legwork for you by meeting two of the dentists behind one of Cardiff’s leading dental practices, Cathays Dental, Dr Kevin Gracias and Dr Amir Koochek. Please tell us a little about your background. We met in Cardiff, even though we are both from London originally. We started studying dentistry in 1993. Where did you train? DR KOOCHEK I qualified as a dental surgeon from Cardiff Dental School in 1999. As well as my BDS dental degree, I was awarded a BSc (Honours) degree in Dental Sciences. Following this, I trained at Guy’s Hospital in London and obtained my membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2001. I am also an honorary member of the American Dental Association and have a special interest in cosmetic dentistry, implants and orthodontics for which I have been the author of publications in dental journals in the UK and USA. DR GRACIAS I also qualified as a dental surgeon in 1998 from Cardiff Dental School. I would like to believe that I have built up a reputation for clinical excellence in aesthetic dentistry and I am an associate member of the British

Academy of Cosmetic Dentists as well as an associate member of the Faculty of General Dental Practitioners of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. I also have a Diploma in Postgraduate Dental Studies and have completed a Certificate in Dental Implant Surgery.

What are your roles in the practice? Primarily clinical dentistry, but as owners we need to manage the business side, too! What are your special interests? We offer a wide range of the latest and state-of-the-art treatment options to our patients. These include Invisalign, Veneers, Lumineers, Cerec 3d, Crown and Bridgework, Dental Implants, Laser Tooth Whitening, Botox and Fillers. How far do people travel to visit you? The majority of our regular patients live in and around the Cardiff area. However, for specific cosmetic treatments, we treat patients from as far afield as London, Birmingham and Mid Wales. What do you think sets you apart from other dental practices? The practice is based on two key points that we regard as being the most ❧ 56 ❧

Are your patients private or a mix of private and NHS? We have a mix of NHS and private patients. Some of our private patients are Denplan insurance patients. Is it only dental that you offer? We have also undertaken extensive training in facial aesthetics, and offer our patients a variety of anti-wrinkle treatments including Botox and fillers. What are your plans for the future? We are looking to expand our business in the near future by bringing on board other healthcare professionals so that we may offer our patients an even wider range of treatment options.
