Planning an Ontario wedding while living overseas is what any brideto-be would call a challenge. However, Sarah Moyer met that challenge with unquestioned success.

lanning their wedding from Croatia where fiancé and professional hockey player Blake Parlett plays with the Zagreb team of the Kontinental Hockey League involved many moving parts. She loved every second of it. “After we chose July 16, 2016 as our date, I contacted vendors to set up meetings for when I was in Canada,” said Sarah, who started dating Blake when they were teenagers in high school. “Last year, I would come home for a month, go back to Croatia for a month and then fly back home for a month. It was a lot of travel and jet lag. When Blake came home with me in the spring, we got into full force planning. Some things I could do with photos and FaceTime with Blake, but for things like tastings I wanted him with me. It was not your typical way of planning a wedding.” Blake’s proposal was untypical as well. After the hockey season, the couple stole four days for a Bahamas vacation. the Atlantis Resort, Blake suggested they take a walk on the beach in the tranquil evening. “Suddenly, he dropped to one knee by the water,” recalls Sarah with a smile. “It was just the two of us so it was private and quiet. I was surprised and over the moon! He had my ring made for me. It’s a magical memory we’ll never forget.” The pair had a long distance relationship from the beginning. They met through mutual friends when Blake was attending high school in Bracebridge and playing for the Huntsville Otters. Sarah was a high school student in Brampton. She started dating Blake on weekends while at her family’s cottage on Lake of Bays. Sarah went to university in Guelph while Blake played in the Ontario Hockey League, so the pair travelled to see each other. Blake later signed a professional two-way contract with the National Hockey League, playing with different teams in many locations over the years.
