When a bride-to-be’s hobby is wedding design, getting engaged might seem like a dream come true.

The couple put plenty of sweat and tears into planning to pull off their theme of French vintage chic.

For Hayley Loschan, it was not quite that simple.

Guests were fed pastry chef creations of croque-en-bouche and white macarons covered in a silver dusting. Linens covered in silver sequins lined the tables in the cocktail and seafood hors d’oeuvres area.

“I did everything, (but) I hate planning. I’m a designer,” said the 37 year old. “That’s why I would (tell couples planning a wedding to) start very early. It was all the small things, the attention to detail. I was really controlling.” The Barrie mom of two said she is happy with how the wedding turned out, and she rejoiced in all those little details on the big day. Hayley married Ryan Loschan, 32, on Dec. 28, 2013, surrounded by about 40 of their closest friends and family, including eight-year-old daughter Brooke Brajcic and two-year-old son Easton Loschan.

Jazzy big band music played throughout the evening at Barrie’s Liberty North banquet hall. At the reception, a silver linen tablecloth was covered in a woven, silver lace overlay at the one long, family-style table. The overlay was embedded with beads and sequins to add a hint of glitter. On top sat glass charger plates, each with a menu and an orchid. Candles of different heights were spread out around the tables, along with hydrangeas, silver brunia, garden roses, regular white roses and lamb’s ears.

A vintage sideboard, which Hayley drove to Burlington to get, was made into a receiving table at the wedding. She also picked up a vintage vanity with silver leaf, which she repurposed into a dessert table that was covered in homemade English toffee and caramel candy apples. Hayley and Ryan also built a birch arbour for the wedding ceremony, which was covered in curly willow, hydrangea and hanging strands of crystal. On top of all this, Hayley spent weeks searching for the perfect vintage silver fox fur wraps – chocolate brown with flecks of white – for her and her maid of honour. “It was really whimsical … and warm. I wouldn’t have been able to do all that stuff with 200 people in the room,” she said.
