Velvet and Kevin were wed Aug. 31, 2013 on the lawn of her parents’ property, and the dinner and reception were in the loft of a barn there. There was no colour scheme, other than a palette of soft pastels, and the venue was covered in twinkling lights and fresh flowers. Velvet placed old mirrors at the back of the barn to reflect the twinkle lights, which had a spectacular effect as the day wore on and the sun set.

“We had tons of twinkle lights everywhere: in the loft of the barn, in the bottom of the barn, around our yard and on tents,” she said, adding electric candles were also placed along the barn walls. Antique chandeliers, which Velvet’s handy dad rewired to work with modern electricity, were also hung up inside the barn. Lace curtains were draped around the barn, and mason jars filled with fresh flowers and candles were the centerpieces. “We tried to randomise them by having some with lace, some with ribbon, and some with old music sheets wrapped on the inside,” said Velvet of the centerpieces. “I also play the piano so I wanted something that represented music.”

For dinner, some Italian friends of the couple prepared an amazing meal from scratch of noodles and pasta sauces, and another friend baked a wedding cake. Velvet also made several cheesecakes for dessert for all the guests. It was a perfect day, and one Velvet and Kevin said they would not change one bit. “To be honest, not one bad thing happened that day. Everything went perfectly smooth; it fell together perfectly. Even my horse, Artex, was an amazingly good boy all day,” Velvet said. “The entire day was special because it was exactly what I had imagined since I was a little girl.”
“It was really nice being able to get married at the house I grew up in. there are lots of memories there and I always hoped I would be able to.”
