hen Kaitlyn Meagher and Adam Lees saw the rustic yet elegant Mark O’Meara course clubhouse at the Grandview Golf Club, the golf-loving groom and his bride-to-be knew it would be the perfect wedding venue. “Everyone knows I play golf a lot,” says Adam, who married Kaitlyn at the Huntsville course on July 14, 2018. “When Kaity gave me a new set of golf clubs as a wedding present, I knew right then she was the best wife ever. During my mom’s speech at our reception, she said having a wedding at a golf course was the closest thing to church for me.” The couple met each other through mutual friends at Bracebridge’s Nipissing University in 2012. They started dating in October 2013. Eventually, Adam decided it was time to ask his love to marry him. While they were walking in a park in Bracebridge, the town where they live, Adam suddenly stopped in the middle of the pathway. “I had waited months for Kaity’s engagement ring to be made by Golden Enterprizes in Bracebridge,” says Adam. “Paul Le May, the owner, finally sent me an email saying the ring would be ready by midday. When I finally got it, I couldn’t wait any longer. I said to myself okay, tonight is it.” “Adam’s mom always says he got the ring at 4 p.m. and we were engaged by 4:30 p.m.,” says Kaitlyn with a laugh. “We had talked about marriage, but I was not expecting anything. Looking back, it was odd that he got home and immediately insisted on going for a walk.” A day of wedding gown shopping in Toronto was soon arranged for the bride and her mom, stepmom, two sisters and four girlfriends. The search ended at the second store when Kaitlyn tried on a simple strapless A-line gown with a banded waist and a bit of beading and sparkle. “This wasn’t the dress I was looking for,” recalls Kaitlyn. “I had been looking at pictures of dresses with lace and a small sleeve, a completely different direction. My sister Teegan, who was then 12, actually pointed out my dress. I asked her if she wanted me to try it on. She said yes and it turned out to be the one.” Meanwhile, Adam and his six groomsmen found their wedding wear at Moores in Barrie. The 2019 WEDDING TRENDS 73
