indsay Fairty is con�nuing her family tradi�on of sod farming in Oro-Medonte. Lindsay’s gran grandfather, Howard Fairty, moved to h his farm in Markham when he was four fourteen years old. A�er returning from war, he cleared the land and began dair dairy and beef farming. He decided to grow grass a�er observing the success of tthe neighboring Parkview Golf Co Course and thought he’d give it a try. Ho Howard became one of the first sod gr growers in Ontario. Lindsay’s father Cam took over th the business from his father and is no now passing on the torch to the next ge genera�on. Lindsay’s eldest sister ma manages the office in Markham, wh while her brother and brother-in-law wo work and manage the fields and her younge younger sister helps out where needed. Lindsay will be opening her OroMedonte loca�on in Spring 2015. Her site will supply sod, soil, fer�lizer, grass seed, mulch and aggregates. It is located at Line 9 South and Highway 11. It is an ideal spot for those traveling to the co�age, or living in Barrie, Orillia and surrounding area, to stop in and pick up their gardening supplies. Fairgreen Sod Farms North also offers convenient delivery of sod and SOS (sacks of soil, their own garden blend), which can also be filled with mulches, aggregates, river rock or topsoil. For your convenience they also offer online ordering. Over the years the Fairty family has always been a part of their community and are proud sponsors of many local organiza�ons, such as Markham
Stouffville Hospital, Markham Fair, St. Patrick’s Church and many other sports clubs. Con�nuing with community efforts, Lindsay has commi�ed to helping the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre’s Media for Young Minds campaign, to raise awareness and funds to open up a new inpa�ent unit for services to support children and youth mental health needs. For the month of June, Fairgreen Sod Farms North will donate $5 from the sale of every sack of garden soil, mulch or aggregates to con�nue to do their part and support their community.
