This issue’s food section takes a trip down memory lane to help Pizzeria Italia celebrate its 50th anniversary. Longevity is an accomplishment for any business, but especially notable in an industry where 80 per cent go under in the first five years. So what’s the secret to downtown Barrie’s beloved pizzeria? “Great food, good prices, friendly service and a homey atmosphere,”says Angie Genovese, whose family opened the restaurant in 1966.

If you’ve ever hesitated over the prospect of building a house from scratch, Paula West Oreskovich should be your inspiration. This single mother of three captained the ship that erected a 7000 square foot, seven bedroom, six bathroom residence in merely six months. Check out the home tour of her Snow Valley abode to see what she achieved.

Shifting gears from pizza to patties, a round up of popular local hamburgers joints is also showcased on the food pages.

If you know me, you know I’m a “Burger Girl”. I love them so much that we served hamburgers at our wedding reception. For this issue, I was in heaven sampling a variety of local burgers that were paired with refreshing beverages.

From the stone exterior to the timber interior, this Snow Valley home is the definition of luxurious country living. The open concept living area with barn-board ceiling in the kitchen and dining area create a wonderful warm and cozy environment for family life.

Treat yourself to a tour of all these restaurants this summer. You deserve it!

The use of colour in the kids’ bedrooms is bold yet comfortable and reflects the personalities of each. And when you step out to the backyard, you’re swear you were miles from nowhere.
