Furness Golf Club celebrates their first England Junior Cap Natasha Slater, 14, a member of the Ladies Section at Furness Golf Club, Cumbria has been selected for the eight strong mixed team of talented youngsters for the England Golf under-16 international against Spain at the National Golf Centre in Madrid on the 24 and 25th May. Natasha is part of the England Golf U16 North squad and has been a member at Furness Golf Club since 2010 joining as junior with a 48 handicap and through hard work and dedication she has reduced this to 2.2, a fantastic achievement.

Furness Golf Club has one of smallest ladies sections in the County but has a reputation for producing talented lady golfers. Janet Melville who was a member in the 1970’s won the Ladies British Open in 1978 and so far this season, Alyson Wood has won the Vets Championship at Brampton, Janet Crossfield the Bronze Championship at Appleby and on the same day Furness Ladies also won the team trophy, Furness Ladies regularly feature in the County Squad and are extremely proud of Natasha.

News from Bentham GC The big revamp continues at Bentham Golf Club! We’ve already given facelifts to the Pro Shop & Clubhouse as well as building a brand new teaching studio. Now the changing rooms are finally being brought into the 21at century! These alterations will see the completion of the refurbishment to the clubhouse, which has so far made a huge difference to the feel of Bentham Golf Club. There is also a new overflow car park currently being landscaped to deal with the increasing popularity of this blossoming club! The course layout is set to change in May bringing the brand new par 4 15th into play after a 2 year wait! Plus, planning permission has been granted for the construction of a replacement machinery shed with a covered practice range attached to it. Our ladies have made it through to the 4th round of the mail on Sunday after beating Heysham in a nail biting match! They will now face Skipton in may!

Furness and Ulverston Peninsula Ticket Two hidden gems in the North West are working together to attract more golfers to Cumbria. Furness Golf Club and Ulverston Golf Club have launched their South Lakes Furness Peninsula Ticket at a special introductory rate. The ticket will allow visiting golfers to play two of Cumbria’s best courses for a special green fee rate with bacon bun and coffee included. Both clubs are within just 15 minutes of each other and visitors can play both courses in one day or split the experience over two days. Another new initiative is the Sunday Driver which has been launched in conjunction with the Fairway Hotel at a special introductory rate, the hotel is situated between both courses and has its own driving range.
