Situated within one of the most picturesque corners of the Costa del Sol, Finca Cortesin is poised to showcase one of the most enthralling Solheim Cup tournaments in history. At the heart of the event will be the resort’s world-class course, a masterpiece crafted by the renowned golf course architect, Cabell B Robinson. As one of the ambassadors for the Solheim Cup this year, La Cala Resort had the honour of showcasing the iconic Solheim Cup trophy to visitors and guests all over the Costa del Sol. The 4* Spanish golf resort has been a proud ambassador of Andalusian golf over the years. With the historic event taking place in the region later this year, La Cala has been at the forefront of all Solheim Cup activities. Members of La Cala’s staff and team were given the honour to receive the trophy and take the silverware on a tour of the Mijas area. After visiting such incredible sights like Mijas Pueblo, Torreon de La Cala de Mijas and Senda Litoral in a traditional horse drawn carriage, the trophy finally made its way to the La Cala Hotel. Landing in theatrical style, the Solheim Cup
trophy arrived in a hot air balloon opposite the La Cala Hotel, landing just in front of the 18th green on the Asia course, and La Cala´s iconic clubhouse. Once the trophy was safely in the hands of our La Cala ambassadors, the Solheim Cup was put on display throughout the resort, for all guests and visitors to see. Starting off at the La Cala Golf Academy, all junior and summer camp golfers were able to view the trophy, taking pictures and selfies with the inspiring Solheim Cup silverware. Next, the trophy moved to the La Cala hotel reception area, where incoming guests and hotel visitors could stop by and admire the iconic trophy design. Finally, the Solheim Cup trophy was displayed at the newly renovated La Cala Clubhouse.
Taking centre stage in the Clubhouse, the trophy was available for all La Cala residents, guests and visitors to come by and take pictures, with popular activity throughout the weekend.
This included the recent XXV Trofeo Feria de La Cala de Mijas golf tournament winners. La Cala golf course designer, Cabell B. Robinson, who also designed Finca Cortesin, was in attendance to present all competition winners with prizes, including Solheim Cup passes and other golf resort play-and-stay prizes. With just under 50 days left until the start of the Solheim Cup in September, La Cala Resort is still offering limited availability for guests and visitors wishing to stay and enjoy the European vs. USA match-up.
The Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucía Masters, a spectacular tournament fully established in the DP World Tour schedule, changes venue and arrives at the Real Club de Golf Sotogrande. The historic club, inextricably linked to the development of golf, hosts the ninth edition of a tournament won last year by the Spaniard Adrian Otaegui and that will take place from October 19-22.
The demanding greens of the Real Club de Golf Sotogrande graduated some of the best European golfers in the past, since the Sotogrande jewel hosts the prestigious Sotogrande Cup whose winners include Rory McIlroy, Shane Lowry, Padraig Harrington and Francesco Molinari. Undoubtedly, the timing of the Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucía Masters, in the decisive stage of the Race to Dubai, will allow a good number of golfers who faced the Real Club de Golf Sotogrande in their amateur days to compete again in its spectacular design.
In addition, Real Club de Golf Sotogrande pedigree also extends to the professional level, as explained by Mr. Jaime Salaverri Aguilar, President of the Real Club de Golf Sotogrande.
“I would like to start by expressing our gratitude for the invitation from DPWT to host the EDAM tournament at our Club. Although our focus as a Club is predominantly amateur – for over 50 years, we have been organizing the prestigious European Nations Championship - Sotogrande Cup – we are delighted to return to professional golf, which we enjoyed in the early years of this Club with Roberto de Vicenzo’s victory in the 1964 Spanish Open and later with Severiano Ballesteros’ triumph in the 1987 Spanish Professional Championship.
“We are thrilled with the opportunity to showcase the magnificent design of Robert Trent Jones – his first work in Europe – nestled in a beautiful cork oak forest located just 150 meters from the Mediterranean Sea, in the incomparable setting of the Strait of Gibraltar with views of two continents. Our Club was at the origin of the urbanization of Sotogrande, and its course was the first American-style course built in Europe. It features wide fairways, elevated and spacious greens with gentle undulations that allow for speed, that combined with the prevailing winds in the area is the most challenging part of our course.”
The Real Club de Golf Sotogrande, about to reach its sixtieth anniversary, will impeccably host the Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucía Masters thanks to the team led by its head greenkeeper Patrick Allende and the work carried out during the last decade.
“Between 2015 and 2017, the 18-hole course and the rest of the playing and practice facilities underwent a complete restoration with the advice of American architect Roger Rulewich, who worked with Robert Trent Jones for many years, and his colleague David Fleury. The restoration kept the original design with minimal changes and brought back the traditional quality of Bermuda 419 grass on tees, fairways, and roughs, and Agrostis Penncross on the greens”, concluded Mr. Jaime Salaverri.
Its great field, the novelty of a spectacular stage and its location in the schedule are assets that, once again this year, will serve as a magnet for the public who will enjoy a new Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucía Masters, a unique and ideal show for all audiences.

The historic Marbella course will host the tournament from November 23rd to 26th, bringing together the best players from the Ladies European Tour circuit.
The Real Club de Golf Las Brisas, located in the coastal town of Marbella, will be the venue for the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España 2023. This tournament, which has traditionally closed the Ladies European Tour season since 2020, will determine the winner of the Race to Costa del Sol ranking.
In this way, the historic course, designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. in 1968 and updated by Kyle Phillips in 2015, will “reclaim a club’s legacy that had been on standby for the last
20 years,” says Paul Muñoz, General Manager of the Real Club de Golf Las Brisas. “We convinced our members that it was necessary to renew the club’s DNA, whose identity is rooted in hosting major events, and the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España aligns perfectly with what we were seeking,” he adds.
The Real Club de Golf Las Brisas was the venue for two World Cups (1973 and 1989) and two Spanish Opens (1983 and 1987),
featuring great players like Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, Seve Ballesteros, José María Olazábal, Nick Faldo, and José María Cañizares. Therefore, “this tournament will once again put the Real Club de Golf Las Brisas on the golfing map. We want to renew that feeling the club had before, and doing it with a women’s event is a plus, not only because it is booming but also because it will provide the club with a new positioning and put us on the map in a very interesting way,” he continues.
As for the course, which will host the best players from the European circuit, there will be several key holes, especially since its redesign, although “hole 11 will be the most emblematic and special, as it witnessed great moments in tournaments held in the 70s and 80s,” explains Paul Muñoz. “The key to success when facing the Real Club de Golf Las Brisas will be consistency. I believe that the player who focuses on hitting fairways will have a good chance of winning.”
The design of the Real Club de Golf Las Brisas is complemented by the landscaping created by the Englishman Gerald Huggan. Like a botanical garden, plants and trees from all continents, such as Castaño de Cabo and Acacias Espinosas, Laurel Indio and Mysore Ficus from Asia, Chorisia speciosa from America, Fresno Verde from Mexico, and Pino Silbante from Australia, along with numerous palm trees and Mediterranean trees, fill the course with imagination and color.
The Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España, in its twenty-first edition, features two Spanish champions in Azahara Muñoz, who has won it twice, and Carlota Ciganda. It will be the perfect ending to what will undoubtedly be the best year in Spanish women’s golf history,
following the Solheim Cup from September 18th to 24th.
The Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España 2023 will take place at the Real Club de Golf Las Brisas from November 23rd to 26th and is part of the Solheim Cup 2023 program, declared an Event of Exceptional Public Interest (AEIP), providing significant tax benefits to participating companies. The Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España, the final event on the Ladies European Tour calendar, is sponsored by Andalucía, Costa del Sol, and Acosol as main sponsors, along with the Marbella City Council, Benahavís City Council, and Reale Seguros. Vithas is the official medical service. Solán de Cabras, Eversheds Sutherland, Mahou, and Puerto Banús are official suppliers. Marca and Radio Marca are official media. LET, RFEG, RFGA, and Deporte & Business are collaborating in its organization.

Situated by the tenth tee of the 36-hole venue’s Links course, which reopened to widespread acclaim in 2022 after a major redesign, ‘Calma’ offers players the opportunity to enjoy one of the most breathtaking seaside locations in European golf while sampling a mouthwatering menu based on local Andalusian produce.
Open daily from 9.30am to 7.30pm for golfers and from 8pm to midnight to the public, the new facility – which has been constructed using the best bioclimatic practices and sustainable materials with an almost zero carbon footprint – offers a choice of freshly made tapas, snacks and desserts for golfers to enjoy, with members and visitors all invited to stop for 15 minutes before continuing their rounds.
Featuring a small restaurant and large terrace
area, ‘Calma’ can also cater for events of up to 200 people and is managed by Sal Verde – the new beach bar and restaurant at La Hacienda – and is the latest investment to be unveiled by the resort as part of its ongoing transformation into one of Europe’s leading modern 36-hole golf venues.
Javier Jimenez-Casquet, director general at La Hacienda Links Golf Resort, said: “Without a doubt, the halfway house is situated in one of the most privileged places at La Hacienda and on the Costa del Sol, with unbeatable views of our Links course, the beach, sea, Gibraltar and Africa. It is a place where players and customers can enjoy an idyllic setting, relax and have an aperitif or even stop for lunch or dinner.
“Since we began the renovation of the Links course, we were clear that this location was perfect for an unparalleled halfway house. It is another facility that makes the course an incredible place to play golf and is a further demonstration of Millenium Hospitality’s commitment to turn La Hacienda into a premium golf destination of international
repute.”
Located in the Cadiz municipality of San Roque close to Sotogrande, La Hacienda
Links Golf Resort has undergone a significant redevelopment in the last 18 months with an array of improvements made on and off the golf course.
As well as the relaunch to widespread acclaim of its Links course last summer after a major renovation by American architect Kurtis Bowman and the opening of a new clubhouse, the resort is carrying out a fresh series of upgrades to its golf and leisure amenities including new investment on its other 18-hole layout, the Heathland course.
Other future improvements include the launch of a new state-of-the-art website while La Hacienda will fully launch a new 300-plusroom Fairmont hotel and villas in spring 2024 – underlining the resort’s ambition to become one of the most exclusive and luxurious golf developments in Spain.

Chaparral Golf Club reveals a series of transformative initiatives that will elevate its status as one of the region’s most soughtafter golf destinations.
Chaparral Golf Club, a true gem nestled in the picturesque Costa del Sol landscape. Located in the heart of the municipality of Mijas, this exceptional golf course has an enchanting setting surrounded by lush pine forests, with the Mediterranean Sea as an impressive backdrop.
The origins of Chaparral Golf Club date back to 1991, when the first sketches of the golf course were presented. A collaboration between Spanish and British partners resulted in the selection of esteemed Málaga-based golf course architect Pepe Gancedo to create a masterpiece. Gancedo’s unrivalled expertise came to life in the form of 18 captivating and challenging holes, now renowned as benchmarks of quality and layout. In 2003, entrepreneur Antonio Rubio
took over the course and hired Gancedo once again to redesign it. The result was a triumphant reopening on 28 February 2006. Over the years, the club has surpassed its own ambitions and developed into a globally renowned golfing haven located between the bustling cities of Málaga and Marbella.
A Sanctuary of Excellence and Elegance
Chaparral Golf Club’s appeal extends beyond its captivating fairways and includes a range of exceptional facilities and practice areas. The Clubhouse, an architectural marvel with Andalusian charm, houses one of the most popular golf restaurants on the Costa del Sol, The Green Label. The restaurant has become the natural meeting place for golfers and residents in the area with its extensive terrace offering panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea.
Among its many offerings, the Club also boasts a large putting green, complete with short game and practice bunker area. Recent investments have further rejuvenated the
facility, culminating in a complete overhaul of the upper and lower sections of the driving range.
In an era where technology and tradition blend seamlessly, Chaparral Golf Club has introduced the innovative Toptracer system to the training facilities, positioning the Club as a paragon of comprehensive driving ranges along the Costa del Sol.
The Toptracer innovative technology employs strategically positioned cameras to capture live shot data, encompassing vital metrics such as distance, speed, tee angle, and trajectory. The data is promptly projected onto monitors stationed at each position, providing golfers, enthusiasts, and novices alike with an immersive modern golf experience. Whether seeking to refine one’s swing through practice or just have fun with friends, the Toptracer system embodies the spirit of progress at Chaparral Golf Club.
At the heart of Chaparral Golf Club’s new era is a commitment to fostering a vibrant social community. General Manager, Domingo Gavira, envisions a harmonious blend of exclusivity, camaraderie and familiarity, laying the foundations for a new golfing lifestyle. Members are offered a sense of belonging, with personalized service and an active social calendar. The club’s warm and attentive team is dedicated to anticipating members’ needs and ensuring that every visit is exceptional.
In Gavira’s words, “Being a member of Chaparral” sums up the essence of feeling truly at home in this esteemed establishment. The Club’s commitment to enriching the members´ experience goes beyond the fariways and includes a varied program of activities designed to engage persons of all ages. In the tapestry of social clubs around the world, it is the meticulous attention to detail, the art of anticipation and the constant pursuit of excellence that sets Chaparral Golf Club apart.
Chaparral Golf Club’s dedication to excellence extends to its membership structure with an evolution from a traditional “pay & play” model to an exclusive members’ club. With the emphasis on quality over quantity, the club will limit its membership to a select 150 members ensuring an intimate and enriching experience for all.
Members can enjoy multiple benefits, guaranteed tee times and favorable terms with the club’s playing rights for five or ten years. This new approach underlines a long-term relationship between Chaparral Golf Club and its members and symbolizes a harmonious partnership that goes beyond the game of golf.
Members can expect a range of benefits, including a comprehensive competition calendar and a personalized golf bag. The Club App also gives members access to club updates, online booking, purchasing tokens and registering for the social competitions, all aimed at enhancing the Chaparral Golf Club
experience.
With a heritage firmly rooted in innovation and a future characterized by visionary improvements, Chaparral Golf Club is poised to redefine the golfing experience on the Costa del Sol. As the sun sets over the majestic fairways and the Mediterranean breeze whispers stories of golf’s splendor, Chaparral Golf Club welcomes enthusiasts, families, and enthusiasts to embark on an unparalleled journey of camaraderie, excellence and belonging.
In this new chapter, the promise of golf’s enduring allure meets the embrace of modern luxury and invites all to share in a legacy of excellence and devotion at Chaparral Golf Club.

Links Golf Course
The NEW Links Course, is our signature course, being the only links course in the region. It is an 18 hole, Par 72 course and inaugurated in 1992. In 2021 new ownership had a vision to transform Alcaidesa into a high end destination and left this unique project in the hands of Kurtis Bowman who is responsible for designing a few of the legendary Jack Nicklaus golf signature courses. The orography of the land is formed
by gentle slopes descending towards the sea, finishing on a beautiful beach, creating a front of nearly 2 km. This allows for the majority of the holes to run alongside the beach. The difficulty of the course lies mainly in the condition of the prevailing winds in the area. One of the special features of the course which most impresses visitors is its spectacular views over the Mediterranean, Gibraltar’s rock and Africa. The total distance is 5,931m.

Formerly the summer residence of the Domecq sherry family, The San Roque Club sits on an enviable backdrop surrounded by lush hills & historic Cork Oak woods. Host of the 1997 Ryder Cup Gala and accommodation of both teams.
Venue for the Spanish Open 2005 and 2006 as well as the European Tour Qualifying School Finals from 1993 to 2007, The San Roque Club holds a place in the heart of many a Tour professional.
Opened in 1991, and designed by the legendary Dave Thomas, the Old Course is rarely outside the top 5 courses in Spain. The first 9 holes wind through Cork Oaks whilst the back 9 are dominated by water hazards. The 18th hole can either make or break your game, adding a spectacular finish to some of the most beautiful 18 holes you will ever play.
Designed by Perry Dye and Seve Ballesteros, the New Course opened in 2003. Since then it has blossomed into a mature and well respected course which can hold court with the best in the area. Celebrating its first European Tour tournament after only 3 years - the Spanish Open 2006 - the course
has already won a multitude of fans the world over. The design depicts a links course in many holes, with many unique Dye features. It is a challenge for low handicap golfers, but with five different tee positions and fairways that are wider than those on The Old Course, it is also possible for higher handicap players to enjoy. Nevertheless, the course is designed to reward canny tactics & skilful drive placement. Water hazards guard 4 of the greens, also defended by more than 140 bunkers.
The San Roque Club is almost unmatched for scenery & elegance. Membership is about exclusivity and the sense of belonging to a family of privileged golfers benefitting from the unique experience the club has to offer. The natural beauty of the area, historic clubhouse, two championship 18 hole courses, and equestrian centre, make it one of Spain’s top clubs.

The recently renovated Almenara Golf is located within 5* SO/ Sotogrande Hotel, alongside the Los Alcornocales natural park, just five minutes from both Real Club Valderrama and La Reserva Club, in a luxurious residential area overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. It is just 40 minutes from Marbella by car, and there are three international airports in close proximity: Gibraltar (20 minutes away), Malaga (60 minutes away) and Jerez (90 minutes away).
Almenara Golf, Sotogrande® has 27 holes created by the famous British designer, Dave Thomas. This is split into three nine-hole loops that have recently been remodelled by legendary local golfer, Manuel Piñero. The water is a protagonist in its design, thanks to two great lakes surrounded by cork oaks and olive trees – delivering an authentic Andalucian golf experience.
The three layouts, with views down to the Mediterranean and over the surrounding hills, represent a real challenge for golfers of all skill levels, with deep bunkers, water hazards, rolling hills, and winding fairways. With more than 300 days of sunshine each year, it has an ideal climate to play golf.
Los Lagos
This picturesque 9-hole course runs between two lakes, with wide fairways nestled among pine trees.
Los Alcornoques
This 9-hole course flows among cork trees, with wide and winding fairways, next to a large lake that comes into play on holes 6, 7 and 8.
Los Pinos
9-hole course surrounded by pine trees, with narrower fairways than Lagos and Alcornoques, and a requirement on creative shot making. Its finishing hole is a challenging uphill par-3.

La Reserva Club sits atop one of Sotogrande’s highest peaks, with sweeping views down over the Mediterranean. The course was opened in 2003, and since its inception has played host to a number of world renowned golf tournaments, most notably the Ladies European Tour’s recent Aramco Team Series. The newest championship course in Sotogrande®, this 18-hole layout measures over 7,400 yards off the back tees and was designed by famous American architect and golf course designer Cabell B. Robinson.
Carved into the hillside, the views are either expansive, overlooking Sotogrande® and its shoreline, or upward onto the trees of the Gran Reserva, Sotogrande’s highest point. With generous fairways, golfers are able to open their shoulders from the tees and take aim. With an abundance of water features,
La Reserva Club strikes a great balance of delivering an aesthetic surrounding on a golf course that is suitable for experienced and enthusiastic golfers alike.
Off the course, La Reserva Club offers a wealth of additional sports, wellness, and leisure facilities, including a first-class Racquet Centre with clay tennis courts and enclosed padel courts, and a sandy-bottom in-land beach club - The Beach. This is all centred around a water sports lagoon that offers an array of activities for children and families.
Come and discover Sotogrande’s newest golf course, regarded as a must-play for any visiting golfer. La Reserva Club provides guests with a unique experience, full of Sotogrande heritage – the bedrock to the service and experience provided.

LA RESERVA CLUB EsteponaReal Club Valderrama is located in Sotogrande, Andalucia, the largest and southern-most region of Spain. A few miles north of Gibraltar, it is approximately one hour’s drive from Malaga International Airport.Valderrama is a private Members’ club with a limited number of starting times offered for visitors. The climate is ideal for year-round golf.
Valderrama has been consistently ranked as number 1 in Continental Europe since the late 80’s and has been included in the Top 100 in the World since 1999. The Par 71 Championship Course measures 6356 meters from the professional tees. The fairways have been described by top pros and leading golf writers as the best in Europe, if not the world. It is not an easy course - nor was it intended to be. It is designed so as to call forth thought and precision for every shot.
The course was designed in 1974 by Robert Trent Jones, Sr, one of the great golf course architects, and was originally known as Las Aves (Sotogrande New). In 1984, Mr. Jaime Ortiz-Patiño, acquired the golf course and committed to bringing the course to an extraordinary level, never seen before in Europe. Robert Trent Jones willingly agreed to come back and redesign his original layout
of ten years earlier. Together the two men spent many hours walking around the course and discussing where and how improvements should be made.
The course was renamed Valderrama, after the ancient estate on which the land is situated. The pair shared a common aim: to create a course that would present a test of golf to the everyday golfer and the first-class player alike, and would bring out the best golf that is in him. Valderrama has since risen in the Golf World rankings to become the No.1 golf course in mainland Europe, a position proudly held since 1989.
No championship course in modern times has so swiftly achieved such recognition. As early as 1988, Valderrama began to host the newly-launched Volvo Masters, the flagship tournament of the PGA European Tour, and continued to do so until 2009. In 1997 the Club hosted the 32nd Ryder Cup, won by Europe in a most thrilling finish. Valderrama remains today the only club ever to have hosted
golf’s pinnacle event outside its traditional homelands, USA and Britain.
The tone for the Ryder Cup event was set by Severiano Ballesteros, the Europe captain, when he walked the course with John Paramor, the chief tournament director. “I found everything perfect” he said. “It’s impossible to imagine a golf course in better condition”
Next, in 1999 and 2000, Valderrama went on to host the first two editions of the World Golf Championships - American Express Championship, which were won by Tiger Woods and Mike Weir respectively. In more recent times, Real Club Valderrama has been perpetuated through the hosting of eight iterations of the Andalucía Valderrama Masters, a tournament of considerable prestige within the domain of Spanish golf sanctioned by the European Tour. Furthermore, Valderrama proudly welcomed LIV Golf in June 2023, boasting some of the best players in the world.

Dona Julia is a new 18 hole, par 71 layout designed by the famous designer Antonio Garcia Garrido. It is set within a huge new development by Casares in the West of the Costa del Sol.
The front seven holes go up into the hills with fantastic views of the sea (particularly from the highest part of the course on the 8th tee). Then the back 11 proceed to come down the hill giving a different perspective entirely from the front 7 holes.
What you notice about Dona Julia is the overall quality of the course, everything is just how it should be and the fairways are spotless.
The greens likewise and they are huge. In all an excellent course for the money and sure to be a firm favourite because although it is tough it is also fair so should suit all levels of golfer. After your game, wander into the Clubhouse bar to relax and enjoy drinks and food on the sunny terrace.
Toughest hole: 10th. Par 4, 405 metres. Stroke index 1 hole and rightly so. Tee off over a valley to a small fairway that runs from left to right in front of you. If you do mange to find the fairway, you have a long second to the large green with water to the right, slicers beware!

Estepona Golf has gained an excellent reputation over the years for its welcoming environment, meaning that guests are guaranteed to enjoy their experience both on and off the course.
18 holes of peaceful undulating Spanish countryside boasting stunning sea views from many areas of the course, Estepona Golf provides a fair test enjoyed by players of all standards. Renowned for their superb, consistent putting surfaces, the course features a wide variety of holes.
The English owned golf course has for many years focused on the visiting golfer from overseas, with knowledgeable, multilingual staff always offering a warm friendly welcome. The clubhouse has recently benefited from a €400,000 renovation, where a superb selection of multinational food, wine and drinks are available in the comfortable
restaurant, bar and terrace. With an ongoing course improvement programme in place, a visit to Estepona Golf is always incredible value for money.
Signature Hole: Hole 10. Par 4. A beautiful downhill short par 4 with the green surrounded by water. The tee shot is very straight forward if you choose to play safe, however you may feel that at only 250 meters downhill and the wind behind that it is worth having a go with 3 wood or driver. A straight one will make an eagle/birdie very possiblebut just slightly out and you are looking at a 6. Decisions, decisions!

VILLA PADIERNA TRAMORES GOLFVilla Padierna’s third course is a fast, accurate course, yet still entertaining and requiring skill.
Designed by Gary Player, El Paraiso was opened in 1973 and is one of the oldest established courses on the coast. For more than forty years it has been a mecca of golf, whether you are a low handicap or just wanting to enjoy a round of golf on your holiday, the course offers golfers of all ages and abilities an exciting challenge.
The setting is incomparable - lush fairways are punctuated by meandering streams, flanked by palm trees and an abundance of exotic fauna, including oleander, jacaranda and mimosas. Lakes provide a home for waterbirds and the golf balls of the unwary! Without doubt El Paraiso Golf Club is a well designed course that golfers will never tire of playing and will look forward to returning for another chance to conquer!
With many good golf holes to choose from, without doubt the 6th, a dogleg left par 5, must be the best hole on the course. The drive has to be accurate to avoid two well positioned bunkers, left and right, and your second shot must favour the left centre of the fairway to miss the lake that catches any wayward ball. Finally, your approach has again to be accurate, to a two tiered green, to give you any chance of that elusive birdie.

LA QUINTA GOLFThe Real Club of Golf Las Brisas was founded by D. Jose Banus in 1968 with the name of “Golf Club Nueva Andalucía”; He would be his first President until 1981.
For his design he chose the American Robert Trent Jones, considered already then like one of the best designers of the world of golf courses. He had just built the Sotogrande field, and later Las Brisas would also design Los Naranjos and Valderrama. The tour of this Marbella club presents multiple water obstacles: there are ten artificial lakes fed by two streams. The greens, mostly elevated, are heavily protected by bunkers. The result of the work of Robert Trent Jones, which we continue to enjoy today, was truly remarkable and original, achieving a difficult and attractive course. It was also original in the lawn used: “Bermuda” on the fairways and “Pencross Bentgrass” on greens, unusual species in Europe in the sixties; The consequence of all this is a course that requires playing a precision golf. As opinion of great golf players we can reflect the one of Paul Azinger (USA):
“Las Brisas does not have a bad hole. In fact it’s one of the best courses I’ve ever played.” The original design, the Englishman Gerald Huggan was commissioned by D. José Banús to design the landscaping and the course’s arboretum. Gerald Huggan, a great specialist in subtropical plants, had just returned from Kenya where he had designed the Nairobi gardens. Here at Las Brisas we can enjoy his work and imagination, in a place where there are trees representing all the continents of the world: species from Africa like the Cape Chestnut and the Spiny Acacias; the Indian Laurel and the Mysore Ficus from Asia; Chorisia Speciosa from America; the Green Ash from Mexico; and the Blackwood and the Whistling Pine from Australia, together with numerous species of palms and Mediterranean trees which coexist in great harmony, turning our course into a veritable botanic garden.
During the following ten years our Club was open to the public, serving the needs of tourism in the area and playing host to numerous guests, with 44,000 players visiting the course in 1975. In 1981 the Banús Group sold the course to the businessmen Herman Sauer and Juan Romero who decided to transform the Club into a private Club; to do so, they formed the company Sociedad Campogolf, S.A., which holds the Clubs assets, and 1,320 shares were issued. The Club’s facilities and the golf course were improved. In 1983 the Spanish Open was again held at the Club, leading to a resounding sporting success. The Irishman, Eamon D’Arcy, won the Open with the Spaniard, Manuel Piñero, coming second. Both he and José María Cañizares managed to equal the course record. In 1983, and after a period of consolidation as a private Club, Herman Sauer resigned from the Chair, with elections being called at which D. Antonio Fortuny was voted in as Chairman. During the following years,
especially in 1985 and 1991, our Club became the focus of some of the most prestigious national and international competitions like Their Majesties the King and Queens’ International Cup, the Spanish Open, the Nations’ Cup and the World Cup. The Spanish Open held in 1987 was won brilliantly by Nick Faldo, followed by Severiano Ballesteros, only two strokes behind, with the latter beating the course record with 64 strokes in the Pro-Am played the day before the competition. Kyle Phillips renovated its design in 2015, through the remodelling of the course, this delightful walking venue has been redesigned to respect and improve on the best aspects of the original design, as well as modified to create a new course which will not only continue to bring pleasure to the members, but once again challenge the professional player. Upon the realization of the new practice facility improvements, Las Brisas will be able to offer its members a complete toplevel golf experience.

With five par 3s and four more par 5s, the America Course will offer a score if you can keep the ball in play. Just steer clear of the pristine crushed-marble bunkers and scrubland that frames every hole on La Cala’s second oldest course. Framed by breathtaking topography, the oldest course at La Cala is a masterpiece by worldrenowned course designer Cabell B Robinson. Iconic shaped greens and rolling fairways are generous where they need to be – tailor-made for strategic and patient golfers. Eye-catching par-3s played from elevated tees are a trademark, while each of the four par-5s on the scorecard are the definition of risk-reward golf. Just be sure to choose the right club off the tee. Accurate approach play is the secret to a good score on the Asia Course. Remember to stay patient and don’t forget to look up and take in the view!

Expect drama and adventure at every turn as the Europa Course meanders through the valley of the River Ojén. The third of Cabell B Robinson’s three courses at La Cala has captured the imagination of golfers since its opening in 2005, maturing seamlessly into the spectacular surroundings of the Sierra de Mijas. Wider fairways and larger greens makes this an enjoyable test for all, but bring your A-game on the toughest holes. Dissected by the Ojén, the fourth might just be the most demanding par four in Andalucía. And at 233 metres, the 14th is the longest par 3 in the region. Featuring five bridges and four tunnels in all, brace yourself for an unforgettable round of golf.

Santana Golf is an 18 Hole golf course par 72 of approximately. 6207 meters in length, set in 138 acres of picturesque parkland.
The course, sympathetically laid out by the architect Cabell B. Robinson, is set in a former avocado plantation which provided a natural solution to many problems. The final result is a magnificent course with wide and well defined fairways on level terrain, hence easily walkable, where water features play an important albeit not excessive part in the overall design. Each hole has two championship tees and two tees for general play for both men and ladies - wide and well manicured putting greens surrounded by strategically placed bunkers, filled with sand produced from crushed marble. Buggy paths are provided throughout the course, beautifully integrated between the rows of fruit trees.
In spite of its previous use, the Avocado Tree or Persea Índica - as it is known by its original name - is not the only tree present here, as many other endemic species like eucalyptus, orange and lemon trees, cactus, pines, fig trees, olive and mango trees make up the varied vegetation of this beautiful enclave, together with a varied population of indigenous birds, with amongst others the calzada eagle. The cork oaks along the 5th hole deserve special mention, as they have been present here for more than 500 years.
