S
anta María Golf & Country Club”, as the name suggests, is far more than a Golf Club. Based around an 18th century “cortijo” which currently forms the Club House, the grounds boast stunning gardens and fine leisure facilities including tennis, swimming and lawn bowling. “Santa María” prides itself on being one of the friendliest international clubs on the coast and the existing membership which is currently held to about 350 members is made up of 14 different nationalities. Set amidst unparallel beauty of the Andalucian countryside, the course traces the contours of two valleys in which the natural vegetation, streams and four lakes form natural hazards. The 7th, a par-3, 200-yard monster, is reached from raised tees and is followed by a dog-leg right par-5 with water on the right. The 11th starts from yet another raised tee, skirts a lake and ends at a green with a waterfall on the right. Located close to Marbella, this course is one of the most popular in the area.

l Mucho del encanto y del carácter que distingue a Santa María está personificado en la Casa Club. Este espléndido edificio del siglo 18, con sus patios cubiertos por parras y sus soberbios jardines, cuenta con pistas de tenis y club de bolos. “Santa María” tiene fama de ser uno de los clubs internacionales mas acogedores en la costa y cuenta con 350 socios de 14 nacionalidades. Situado en la incomparable belleza de la sierra Andaluza, en su recorrido Santa María Golf serpentea por un valle siguiendo sus contornos rodeándose de una vegetación natural con un delicioso pinar, un bosque de robles, un arroyo y cuatro lagos. Al 7, un largo par 3 de 183 metros al que se llega desde tees elevados, le sigue un par 5 dog-leg con agua a la derecha. Este campo de golf, situado en las proximidades de Marbella, es uno de los más populares de la zona.

HOW TO GET THERE Turn off about 10 kilometres east of Marbella. If you are going towards Málaga you will have to take the overpass by the Hotel Don Carlos. CÓMO LLEGAR Por la autovía, a unos diez kilómetros al este de Marbella. Si se va en dirección Málaga hay que cruzar la autovía por un puente a altura del hotel Don Carlos.
