The Bell Tower

The Bell Tower stands at over 17 metres in height, with a huge brass bell. It has been engineered to last 250+ years, serving as a signal that a new era of business has begun for the region.

The unique tower roof is one of a kind, with the very top featuring a lightning strike counter, to record how many times this tower gets hit with lightning!

Goldtower is in the early stages of development, with plans to continue adding more buildings and exciting art installations.

Three Gold Nuggets

Commemorating the three local mines of modern times in the Region, Three Gold Nuggets is made of three large look-alike nuggets. Make sure to get a photo with these! Could you imagine if these were real gold?

This art installation also provides an overview of each mine, and lists the names of all mining companies operating in 1892, during the peak of the gold rush. The mind boggles to think how busy it must have been with over 100 mines working during that time!

The World

What a wonderful World!

Standing at over seven metres high, with a diameter of four metres, is The World.

The World was presented to the Charters Towers community in 2022 as a gift from Goldtower Central Central in celebration of 150 years (1872-2022) since the declaration of the goldfields.

This unique piece of artwork was inspired by the fact the town was once affectionately known as ‘The World,’ when it was Queensland’s second largest city in the early 1900’s.

Take a moment to read each inspiring story around the base of The World. Our town’s history is now etched in stone forever!

The Mosaics

Goldtower features several incredible artworks throughout the precinct that have been transformed into, and then installed as, mosaic murals.

Each mosaic has been hand-made with individual ceramic tiles approximately 10mm x 10mm in size. These tiles have been hand cut and glued meticulously, one-by-one, into place.

Freely wander the precinct and discover and enjoy these magnificent masterpieces!

Wall of History 1872 - 1922

ARTIST | TRISHA LAMBI

This prodigious piece of artwork measures 65 metres long, and is made using over five million ceramic and glass tiles. It is Australia’s largest hand-made mosaic mural!

Commissioned by Goldtower, with the help of the Charters Towers and Dalrymple Archives Group and local historian and author Michael Brumby, this mosaic mural depicts real people in real places from the Gold Rush era.

Australian Fine Artist Trisha Lambi was tasked with painting this Wall of History. Please take your time to view the exquisite details.

This mosaic mural was also commissioned by Goldtower and features a lighter take on ‘what makes Charters Towers unique.’

The community provided suggestions for which iconic landmarks, attractions, industries and events have defined Charters Towers over the years.

This design was brought to life by North Queensland graphic designers Jennifer Magnani and Danielle Ham under the direction of local Charters Towers agency In Spades Marketing.

Special thanks to local indigenous artist Tania Ault who also collaborated on this project.

Peter Lawson Collection

Renowned Fine Artist Peter Lawson has a special connection to Australian history, being the great nephew of the famous poet Henry Lawson.

Peter is especially known in the region for his exceptional collection of Charters Towers artwork, inspired by the town’s history, architecture and street scenes during the Gold Rush era.

Currently there are three of Peter’s artworks installed as mosaic murals throughout Goldtower with two more to be installed soon.
