TOURISM

Goldtower Central is a popular destination in Charters Towers that is brimming with shopping, historical attractions and larger-scale art installations. The Goldtower Wall of History, a 60-meter-long and seven metre high mosaic mural that portrays the town's gold rush era is Australia’s largest mural. The mural, which consists of eight panels and approximately 600,000 tiles per panel, was commissioned by the owner of Goldtower, Paul McIver, created by Australian artist Trisha Lambi. Additionally, the Peter Lawson Murals exhibit three large-scale mosaic images of prominent Peter Lawson paintings that depict the historical architecture and street scenes of the gold era.

Another notable attraction at Goldtower Central is the Bell Tower, which stands over 17 meters tall and houses a large brass bell. It features a unique roof design created by local builder Rod Coleman and a lightning strike counter that records how many times it gets hit. Visitors can access the tower through Goldtower Central, and free parking is available around the precinct.

Lastly, ‘The World’ the jewel in the crown, is a new historical attraction gifted to Charters Towers by owner Paul McIver. It is a solid car-sized globe statue perched atop on marble pillars and pays tribute to the town's Gold Rush era.

Visitors can scan the QR code located at the statue to check in and receive a unique citizen number. With these exciting attractions, Goldtower Central is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in the history and culture of Charters Towers.
