2022 Is The Year To Do Something New, which is great news as Girlguiding Bedfordshire has lots of opportunities for you to start your volunteering journey as a leader or unit helper today.
Roles that will give you the chance to explore your talents, take on new challenges and achieve your goals. In return, we offer you the opportunity to gain new qualifications and experiences, take part in adventures and have loads of fun. Plus best of all, you can give as much or as little time as you have.
Our leaders are mums, teachers, managers, doctors, receptionists, cashiers, accountants, engineers... in fact they are you! They come from every walk of life, every background and every culture but they share a common goal, to give girls and young women in Bedfordshire the freedom to learn, create, achieve, explore and express themselves through experiences that will last a lifetime. Volunteering isn't, giving up time, in fact, it is the opposite it is enriching, rewarding and life-affirming - some might say it is time well spent. To see the beaming smile of a Brownie who has just lit her own fire, to hear the laughter of Rainbows playing games in a field, to watch as a Guide overcomes her fears and makes it to the top of that climbing wall and to know that you have helped them reach these victories, made those smiles and given them tools for the future. At Girlguiding Bedfordshire, we have so many great things to get involved in which are not only brilliant for our girls but brilliant for our leaders too. This year alone we have:

The Shuttleworth Challenge
Dragons in Tiaras is our Royal Garden What an A-mazing day out for all our Guides, Brownies and Rainbows! Party designed especially for Brownies and will be hosted in the stately grounds of Wrest Park in Silsoe. The Brownies will join in games on the lawn, take part in the Nelsons Challenge making sure the Captain's tea gets to his cabin! And not forgetting a spectacular display from the crew of HMS Wales Historic re-enactment society. Oh, and of course - there will be cake!
Explore the beautiful secret garden with a surprise around every corner. The Swiss Garden is a feast for the eyes and the senses so armed with a map our girls and their leaders can start their adventure and discover its wonderful surprises.
Shuttleworth is also home to The Shuttleworth Collection which boasts planes, cars, buses and more from across the ages. Find out about some groundbreaking female pilots, racing car drivers and spies! Plus a chance to take part in some super fun STEM activities.
Wrest Park Quest

Come along to County Camp
A fun-filled four-night all-action activity camp for our Guides and Rangers on the Shuttleworth Estate.
This year our extraordinarily popular Wrest Park Quest has been redeveloped but will still include all the fantastic elements, which some 2,000 girls and leaders, have already enjoyed since its launch in 2016.
Explore the historic grounds using a specially designed treasure map, follow the clues and discover the beautiful grounds. Plus take part in a cool environmental project which will be both fun and educational. A wonderful day to remember!
There will be so many things to get involved in, activities to try, challenges to take part in and memories to be made. A time to meet old friends and make new ones, there will be laughter, singing and of course the odd bonfire or two.

Girlguiding has teamed up with the RSPB to bring a fabulously feathered day out. The RSPB is the largest nature conservation charity in the UK, inspiring everyone to give nature a home and secure a healthy environment for wildlife. So grab your fun activity pack and explore the RSPB Reserve at Sandy. Help the girls to spot some 'Brillant Birds' and be together with nature.

Leaders from our Flitwick District were delighted to attend Councillor Andy Snape, Town Mayor of Flitwick Civic Reception. Many of our Leaders look forward to representing Girlguiding Bedfordshire at civic events, ceremonies and more.
Our Leaders will often spearhead local and international initiatives to help, both those at home, as well as further away.
