SIXTH FORM An worldexcitingof CHOICE OPPORTUNITY

The Sixth Form community at Godolphin is just that: a place for students to come together and to support one another. The balance between the academic and extra-curricular engagement with school life is what makes it so enjoyable: from Zumba classes on a Wednesday to Law Society at Friday lunch, there is never a shortage of something to do.

NOON

Every year we extend a very warm welcome to girls who join us for the Sixth Form from a wide range of state and independent schools. The students may well have been happy and successful at their previous schools, but they are now ready for fresh challenges. Their reasons for joining Godolphin are numerous but usually include our reputation for academic success; the choice of studying the IB or A level pathways; the range of subjects on offer; and the support of the Higher Education team through the university application process.

The extensive extra-curricular programme and leadership opportunities are also a highlight with one of last year’s joiners commenting, “I have never been this busy; it’s fantastic!”. We support our new joiners to make new friends and settle in as quickly as possible so that they can hit the ground running and really get the most out of their final two years of secondary education.

SIXTH FORM OPEN EVENT

At Godolphin they will meet like-minded and motivated students, try new things, take risks and develop independently. We focus on the girls’ wellbeing and individuality while supporting them in every way to achieve their potential. Our aim is to ensure that they are armed with the confidence, knowledge, skills and academic credentials to move on to their first-choice university courses and flourish in the world beyond Godolphin as active global citizens.

Dr Jamie Carter Director of Sixth Form

Godolphin and Latymer is one of only a few schools in London to offer the choice between A levels or the IB Diploma. A Levels provide girls with the opportunity to focus on four subjects in real depth while developing research skills in an area of interest through the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) which is a highly valued element of the University application process.

The IB is a holistic programme aimed at developing critical and reflective thinking, research skills and global mindedness. It is made up of six subjects studied at Higher and Standard Levels which are built around a ‘core’ element comprised of an Extended Essay, CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) and the popular Theory of Knowledge (ToK) course.

We ask students to indicate their subject preferences when they register for Sixth Form entry and selected applicants will be examined and interviewed on these subjects. If students wish to change their choices they should contact the school as soon as possible and we will try to accommodate changes if at all possible. We offer a wide range of subject choices at A level and IB including Economics, Politics, History of Art and Ancient History - in addition to our GCSE subjects. Sixth Form classes are intimate and discursive; our approach enables girls to explore in depth the subjects they most enjoy and they consistently achieve excellent academic results.

Going to the Vogue offices and discussing my passion for art and possible career paths was invaluable. These sorts of opportunities have been fantastic and were something not on offer at my previous school.

The HE programme includes an Introductory Evening and HE Forum for both students and parents in the Spring Term of the Lower Sixth and further student workshops throughout the Sixth Form. A number of careers events, workshops and speakers are organised so that students learn first-hand about a wide variety of career paths. This year we have launched our In-house Internships to provide experience of working with real businesses and to gain crucial skills that are valued by employers.

At the beginning of the Sixth Form, our new joiners will meet with the Higher Education (HE) team to discuss their subject choices and their university and career aspirations, to ensure that they align. Students will receive further support from the HE and Careers team who, alongside tutors and the Sixth Form team, will guide them through their specific university course choices.

HIGHER EDUCATION AND CAREERS

We encourage our Sixth Formers to take on leadership responsibilities whether in a highly-visible role or behind-thescenes. The Sixth Form prepares girls to be confident, sociallyminded leaders: change-makers who collaborate with others and strive to make a difference to their communities, whether within school, locally or globally. The majority of our 90 weekly Clubs and Societies - including academic subject societiesare led by Sixth Formers and cover a whole range of interests. Some, such as the PPE Forum, involve organising external speakers, or our Sixth Formers might become Arkwright Engineering Scholars or Ogden Trust Physics Ambassadors. Sixth Formers coach our lower school debating and sports teams and run drama rehearsals and language drop-ins; they act as mentors and role models in many aspects of school life often leading Lower and Middle School assemblies on a range of PSHE

I was keen to get involved in the new student Diversity Committee as I feel passionate about instigating change on pertinent issues and I want to have a positive impact on shaping our school community. The experience of being a leader has given me the confidence to think about how I can follow this through in my future career and in the wider social context.

Godolphin allowed me to get involved in activities I never even saw myself doing. There’s something for everyone.

The Sixth Form extra-curricular programme moves to a whole new level as girls hone their skills or discover new interests, clubs and societies. Many take leading roles in drama productions, run their own music ensembles, are members of choirs and orchestras and join the music tours to Italy or Hamburg. Art scholars work towards art exhibitions, and among the enormous range of sports options there is the opportunity to compete and represent the school at the very top level. Sixth Formers are encouraged to run and start their own clubs and societies and to be part of community and volunteering projects. These opportunities, experiences and academic enrichment are what make Godolphin girls so well-rounded and interesting to Universities and employers. As government restrictions are eased we look forward to offering our full extra-curricular programme once more.

The girls’ tutor group is their pastoral home in the Sixth Form; there are around six students from the Lower Sixth and six from the Upper Sixth in each group. They have the same Form Tutor throughout the two years who will be someone they meet with every day and who will guide, support and encourage them throughout. Individual coaching and support is always on hand and at the weekly Sixth Form Café students discuss various aspects of Sixth Form life. A variety of wellbeing sessions run throughout the year and are an integral part of the Sixth Form curriculum, which aims to ensure that each and every girl feels secure and supported.

The Sixth Form Common Room is a welcoming community buzzing with fun and laughter where the girls find a friendly smile and words of support when they’ve had a tough day. New friendships are discovered as girls move into new and smaller class groups, study different subjects, follow different pathways and share new experiences. There are many opportunities for girls to meet students from other schools for activities such as the MUN conference, debating, Sixth Form ‘pub’ night, Sixth Form Dining Club and entrepreneur events. Girls become more independent and start to enjoy a busier social life but it is here at Godolphin that many discover the life-long friendships that anchor them through University and beyond.
