Meet...Paki Williams

P.U.M.P.S. S.T.A.R. Paki Williams attended Fenger Academy and graduated in June 2009. After her highly recognized participation in the P.U.M.P.S. program, she received a full scholarship to Malcolm X College. She plans on transferring to a university where she will study business and hopes to be an entrepreneur. 1.What did you learn in the P.U.M.P.S program? I learned a lot in the P.U.M.P.S program. I have been in the program since it started last year. The financial awareness programs and the tips about how to save money really helped me. I was really bad at saving money. I was spending money on everything. Now, I am more cautious about saving money. I save portions of my paycheck and only buy what I need, not what I want. 2. What organizations were you apart of in high school? I was apart D.I.V.A (Daughters In Visioning a new Attitude). I was involved in the organization for 3 years. I participated in Big Sister/Little Sister program. I had a little sister that I mentored. I helped her with school and relationship issues. She called me for advice and we still talk on a regular basis. 3. Where do you see yourself in five years? In five years, I see myself graduating from a university with a degree in business. I want to be a business owner and I want to open the sister store to Sensual Steps (currently located in Bronzeville). 4. What advice do you give young women your age about completing high school? I would say to have goals and keep track of them by writing them down. It was a good feeling graduating from high school. It feels like you are one step closer to the goals you have in mind. Also, you have keep friends that have the same goals as you. You do not need friends who have different goals in mind. In addition, guys come and go, do not lose yourself and lose track of your goals because of a guy.

Calling All GoddessStars! Do you know a young lady who has been outstanding in school or that is always helping in her community? Goddess Magazine is looking to feature a young woman in our GoddessStar section. This section is dedicated to recognize young women between the ages of 14-18 who has made changes, big or small, to better herself or her community. If you would like to nominate a young lady, please submit a 350 words or less essay describing her accomplishments. All nominations are due by July

The summer has officially arrived with its sunny shine. It is the great time for everyone, especially teens who would love to go and spend more time outdoors. Here are some of the summer safety tips for teens which can keep them safe. 1. Recreational water illnesses like pink eye, diarrheas etc are caused when water gets contaminated with germs. To avoid them, teens have to take some simple steps to keep themselves safe while swimming like taking bath before and after swimming, not sharing the pool towels with friends etc. While swimming in the ocean, teens should swim only in the designated areas where the life guard are present. It is always good to be aware of CPR and how to escape from the rip currents in the ocean. 2. To avoid the harmful rays of sun, teens should make sure that they apply the sun block or sunscreen before going out. Teens should reapply the sunscreens for every few hours to avoid the sunburn problems. Select the sunscreen in such a way that it has the ability to block both UVA and UVB harmful rays. 3. As teens mostly prefer to spend time outdoors in summer, they may suffer from the mosquito bites and other bug bites. To avoid the mosquito bites and other insects, try to use insect repellents. Once they are home, wash off the insect repellent immediately. 4. When teens go for outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing etc., make sure to wear the protective gear like while riding a bicycle, wear the helmet and pads. 5. To stay hydrated, teens should take plenty of water. Try to avoid the drinks which can dehydrate the body like drinks with excess amounts of caffeine etc. 6. Summer is the best time for the teens to keep themselves in shape and be active. So it's good to sign up or try an outdoor sport such as tennis, baseball, basketball etc which can make the teens to be active and fit. www.GoddessGirlMag.com€

6€

7. When the teenagers are out with friends, it is good to be aware of the surroundings to ensure safety and always stick with friends. When ever they face a situation which makes them feel uncomfortable, the best option is to move away. 8. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, summer is the time when most of the teen drivers are killed and injured in car crashes. Parents should set some rules and guide their teenagers like wearing a safety belt, maintaining the speed limit, not using cell phone while driving etc. 9. As teens love to enjoy fireworks, parents can take them to the professional displays which take place in the communities. Parents should discourage and let their teens know how danger the fireworks can be if they use them. According to the Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshall, in Illinois, 125 people were injured by fireworks in the year 2007. 10. Teens should opt for foods which are healthy and nutritional. Summer is the best time to eat fresh vegetables and fruits. By taking foods like carrots, tomatoes, apricots etc which are rich in beta-carotene can help to protect your skin against sun damage. 11. Try to wear sunglasses and hats to protect your eyes and face. Choose your sunglasses in such a way that they can block the ultra violet rays and prevents the sunlight from falling into your eyes. 12. As dark color clothes attract and absorb the sun's heat, it is always preferable for the teens to wear light weight and light colored clothes as the light colored clothes have the ability to reflect the sun's heat.

So Not the Drama By: Paula Chase Hyman

In exactly one hour, eighteen minutes, and thirty-five seconds, Mina Mooney will be dipping her pink Nellie Timbs into the infamous frosh pit... Hoping Del Rio Bay High will live up to her greatest expectations, Mina has big plans for infiltrating the school's social glitterati. After all, she's been mad popular for as long as she can remember—and she isn't about to go from Middle School Royalty to High School Ambiguity. But Del Rio Bay is a big school, so it'll take some plotting to avoid getting lost in the crowd. Good thing she isn't afraid of a little hard work—and that her playground peeps, Lizzie, Michael, and JZ, have got her back. But it isn't long before Mina's big plans for securing her social status take a back seat to some drama that was so not expected. Lizzie's scored an invite from the beautiful people that Mina can only dream about, and not only is Michael tripping about being back in school, but now he's beefing with JZ. Worst of all, Mina's sociology class experiment to rid the world—or at least Del Rio Bay High—of prejudice is about to backfire. Because it might just mean she'll have to rid herself of her very best friend...

06/15/2009 06/15/2009 Journal Entry #3 Journal Entry #3 Dear Entertainment! It’s your girl, Miss B here to add another entry to your fast changing exciting world. Last entry, I focused on reality shows, concerts, and books. I hoped everyone had the opportunity to check out the new shows and books I introduced. This entry, I want to bring attention to something that is significant. First, let me begin to say I love when June comes around. June not only brings enjoyable weather, but June is also Black Music Month. In 2005, President George W. Bush declared June as Black Music Month for everyone to acknowledge and appreciate all types of music made by famous African-Americans. Since the start of Black Music Month, there are organizations and online websites that helps inform the people about Black music and the history behind the music. To kick off summer and Black Music Month, I would like celebrate with my favorite genre of music: hip-hop. Hip-Hop music has always been exciting with its catchy beats and amazing rhymes. Lately, Hip-hop music has been under much criticism from the media. Seems like these days hip-hop music has lacked originality and artistry. Many have questioned is Hip-hop dead? My friend and I were having a discussion on hip-hop and we asked each other what is going on with the music of hip-hop. We were analyzing who is making some noise right now and who are people are vibing too. It took some time to answer my own question, but finally I came across an artist that is currently making a huge buzz in hip-hop right now. If you haven’t heard Every Girl and Best I Ever Had on every radio station, then you must be living under a rock…lol! If so, let me introduce you to Aubrey Graham, better known as "Drake." Hailing from Toronto, Canada, Drake is the new fresh face of hip-hop that has been everywhere. Drake’s third mixtape, So Far Gone, has a mixture of rap and R&B that is bound to have you wanting more. When listening to So Far Gone, it’s hard not to make a comparison between the two hottest rappers, Kanye West and Lil Wayne. Although Drake’s new found success comes from his music, many teens knew him as Jimmy Brooks on Degrassi: Next Generation. In 2006, Drake branched into the music scene with his debut mixtape named Room for Improvement. With the success of Room for Improvement, Drake continued the mixtape circuit with Come Back Season, Heartbreak Drake, and So Far Gone. Drake is currently working on his debut album entitled Thank Me Later, which is scheduled to drop later this year. In my opinion, So Far Gone collaboration has put Drake in the running for best rapper this year. His street/nerd boy style and clever metaphorical rhymes has restored my love for hip-hop. Well it’s about that time for me to head out I hope everyone enjoys Black Music month and take the time to celebrate your favorite artist or genre of music. If you have an artist that you would like me to review, contact me at missb@goddessgirlmag.com. Until next time Holla! Your Girll,

Lip gloss is a staple for everyone's makeup collection. Some are sticky, some are creamy, and some have a bad taste; so how do you know which ones to choose? Well, no matter what kind of texture, color, or taste there is a great gloss for all budgets. Check out the best glosses that range anywhere in price from $1 to $38.

1.

2.

Sally Hansen Diamond Lip Treatment in Pink Bouquet - Steal This lip gloss has to be the top pick in the steal category. It is very creamy and not tacky at all, giving your lips a "diamond" shine. It also moisturizes and actually improves the texture of your lips because the Vitamin A. There are 17 great colors and they sell for $5.

3. Dior DiorKiss Lip Gloss in Sorbet Meringue - Splurge What a great lip gloss splurge! The color choices for this gloss are great and they wear well too. Each gloss has its own tasty scent and the texture is very creamy and not tacky at all. Available in 12 shades and priced at $19.

4.

e.l.f Plumping Lip Glaze in All Colors - Steal e.l.f hit the nail on the head with this definite steal of a lip gloss. It is a dual sided product, with a plumper on one end and the lip glaze on the other. They offer a wide variety of colors and the price is only $1, and no that is NOT a typo.

5.

Nars Lip Gloss in Sweet Dreams - Splurge Nars definitely has a great lip gloss, but the big perk is the huge selection of colors. The glosses come in 3 formulas: sheer, cream, and semi-sheer. They are very comfortable on the lip and have good staying power. Price: $24.

6.

Avon Glazewear Liquid Lip Color in Daring Pink - Steal This is a very moisturizing lip gloss, and it also helps to improve your lips with vitamins A, C, and E. It offers good coverage and a great variety in colors, including the regular formula and the Dazzler formula. Sometimes you may fine it on sale, but the regular price is $6.

7.

Cargo blu_ray Lip Gloss - Splurge This lip gloss is a new item from Cargo's blu_ray line and it is definitely worth the money. With this gloss set you get 4 colors instead of only 1. It does not come with an applicator, but that's what finger tips are for. This gloss is very comfortable, has a pleasant taste, and has plumping power to boot. Price: $29.

8.

Victoria's Secret Beauty Rush Lip Gloss in Pink Berry - Steal This lip gloss could be seen as the steal version of Lancome's Juicy Tubes. Victoria's Secret offers a very good variety of colors and each one has a pleasant taste. Just as with the splurge gloss, it wears very well and is not sticky. Sometimes this gloss can be found on sale, but the regular price is $7.

9.

Lip Fusion Color Shine Lip Gloss in Bare - Splurge This is definitely a splurge when it comes to lip gloss, but if you need to pump up your lips then it is worth every penny. The gloss instantly plumps and the effect can last up to 48 hours. It is moisturizing and wears well, so it is not sticky or tacky on the lips. It comes in a very wide variety of colors and is priced at $38.

10.

Burt's Bees Super Shiny Lip Gloss in Puckerberry - Steal If you long for a more natural lip gloss that is also affordable, then this is the one. This gloss is naturally enhanced with citrus oil, so there is no unpleasant taste. The texture is smooth and not sticky or tacky. It is also very moisturizing because of the sweet almond oil. Unfortunately there are only 4 colors, but the price is nice at $7.

Once You've Made Some Money,

Save Some!

Tips to help you save! How much should you save? You actually may be able to save 100% of your money. Does that mean you should? Not at all. The best way to develop good saving habits is to make saving a regular part of your life, along with spending. Here's a few ways you can save: •

Save before spending. Whenever some money gets into your hands, from a job or your allowance or whatever, take your savings out immediately, before spending any of the money. The beauty of this system is that once you've removed your savings, you're free to spend the rest.

Negotiate with your parents. This may or may not work for you, but it's worth a shot. See if they'll "match" your savings, in order to encourage good saving habits. If they match your savings dollar-for-dollar, for example, that would mean that for every $25 you plunk into savings, they'd plunk an additional $25.

Consider the "opportunity cost" of purchases. Opportunity cost is an economic term that applies to many parts of our lives. It essentially refers to the cost of giving up one alternative in order to act on another. Imagine that you can either buy concert tickets for $50 or you can invest the money. If you invest for 10 years, and your investment grows by an average of 11% per year, your original $50 will become $142. So your decision can be framed like this: "Would I rather have these tickets now, or $142 in 10 years?" If you're thinking of buying a pair of shoes for $75, consider whether it's worth the opportunity cost of $600 in 20 years. Perhaps it is. If so, then by all means, buy the shoes. www.GoddessGirlMag.com

Tips from Teens on Saving Here are some more suggestions on how to successfully get into the saving habit, from a bunch of teens and a few folks fresh out of teenhood. Ben Sheppard, 18: Don't carry any cash, if possible. Clayton Smalley, 16: I used to be weak when it came to money. I couldn't go into a store without buying something. I'm glad I'm not that person now. I taught myself discipline by keeping a $20 bill in my pocket, walking around the mall all day and not buying anything. Now I don't have any urge to buy stuff when I go into a store. It worked for me. Tacy Holliday, 19: When you buy something, only use dollar bills. If you buy a magazine for $3.25 and you pay for it with a $5 bill, you'll get back $1.25 in change. Put the dollar back into your purse (or pocket) and keep the 75 cents separate. Only spend the bills, not the coins. Put all the coins in a jar for savings. That way you'll always be saving a little. Daniel Carroll, 16: I have a little bank that I put spare change and bills into. Whenever I have a significant amount in there, I'll invest it or put it in the bank. It's important to keep a routine. Every time I get money, I put some away. Donald Hoang, 14: I deposit my money into a bank instead of my wallet, so the money is not there. and I have to take an extra step to get to it. Jason Hart, 18: Take only what you really need for spending, and put the rest of it somewhere that's difficult to get to, such as long-term CDs or money market accounts. Making it inconvenient to get to your money might help you avoid the urge to spend it all. Also, decide exactly what percentage you will spend and what you will save, and follow your own rules. Robert Morgan III, 17: Carry very little money at all times. You can't spend money if you don't have it. A candy bar would be nice, but without a dollar, you can't get it. Little things like that really add up quickly. I like to see the number of shares of stock I own going up, too. That's a great motivator. Deborah Sperling, 14: When considering a major purchase, wait a week or so, at minimum. This will help you make sure you still want the item, and, as an added bonus, the price might go down. Adam Kaufman, 15: Start with small amounts. When I first started saving to invest, I was saving $1 to $2 each day, so by the end of the month, I had $30 to $60, depending on what kind of month it was. Jason Ramage, 20: I take advantage of automatic withdrawal from my bank account into my investment account, so that I'm always investing, and I'm forced to make do with a slightly tighter budget. by Selena Maranjian TEENS AND THEIR MONEY http://www.fool.com/teens/teens02.htm www.GoddessGirlMag.com€

oddess Magazine is dedicated to providing its readers with examples of great role models. Role models come in the form of mothers, fathers, siblings, teachers, mentors, spiritual leaders, or even someone you do not know personally (occasionally celebrities such TV personalities, authors, etc). It was my recent pleasure to interview “Chi –Town Princess,” Ms. Drew Sidora, an accomplished singer, songwriter, dancer, actress, and community leader. Why is Drew Sidora an exceptional role model for young women today?

by: Rana Tuggle Young Women's Charter Leadership School

24

Drew has worked hard to achieve her dreams; in doing so, she never set limits to what she could do. This confident and determined attitude began when she was young. Self assurance and solid resolve became the backbone of her interest in the entertainment industry. By the time Drew was two years old, she was studying Classical piano; she did so for the next six years and also studied theater. Drew’s aspirations to pursue a career in the entertainment industry were so great that, with encouragement, she developed talents like dance, singing, and TV production. Years later, Modern, Ballet, and Jazz dance became interests to a young Drew. At the age of seven, she was already familiar with the industry based on her countless movie productions, commercials, and theater ensembles. By this time, Drew was definitely not a stranger to the entertainment industry world. Drew’s acting career blossomed during her preteen years as she performed on TV shows such as Soul Food, Ally McBeal, and Divas. Acting was just one of many talents that she wanted to pursue; Drew had a passion for singing and would soon pursue her dream by graduating high school and attending Santa Monica College where she majored in Entertainment Law with a minor in Music History. Her big break occurred when she signed with Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds’ Entertainment. Although she was working as a songwriter, Drew never let her passion for acting dissolve. She continued to appear in movies and music videos such as Never Die Alone with DMX, White Chicks with the Wayans Brothers, and Walt Disney's That's So Raven. She has worked with numerous songwriters, well-known producers, and artists. Her most recent TV production was The Game on the CW Television Network. Drew explained that the recent cancellation of The Game saddened her and she hopes for the return of the show, but in the

meantime she will keep moving on to bigger things. Drew is still working tirelessly towards creating better opportunities for herself.

“Keep God first, follow your dreams, be productive, and rely on others.” Drew is passionate about being the spokesperson for the Love is Not Abuse Campaign (www.loveisnotabuse.com). She targets young women and helps them recognize the signs of abusive relationships. The campaign focuses on educating young women about the dangers of a physically, verbally, and mentally abusive relationship. As the spokesperson for the campaign, Drew’s role is to educate young women about relationship violence by talking to teen girls as a guest speaker at their schools. The goal of the campaign is to create a curriculum addressing the signs of violence, relevant statistics, and how to maintain a healthy relationship that can be beneficial to young women. By working on this campaign, Drew has made the connection that,

“Most statistics show that teens who grow up witnessing abusive relationships, later on may exhibit abusive behavior themselves.” Drew believes that, “No woman deserves to be hurt.” Drew feels very strongly about this subject and encourages young women to talk to someone about abuse and seek help from parents, teachers, counselors, or outreach programs such as the Love is Not Abuse organization. This is just one of the many ways Drew has given back to the youth and the community. Drew made history December 2008, when she became the first female vocalist on Slip and Slide Records. Drew explained she “wants to break walls and pave the way for others to follow.” She also explained the label has a family atmosphere and that is a main reason she joined the company. Her experiences with Slip and Slide Records have proved to be very successful. Currently, Drew is working on her 1st album which is set to be release early 2010. Her first single is titled Ladies Go. Drew has worked with Neyo, Twista, Tha Pope, Trina, and Lady Gaga on this new album. Drew joined Tha Pope and Twista with Body Sweat which is currently on radio airways. As a child, Drew always knew that she wanted to sing and this was her motivation for never allowing her dreams to fail. Although, Drew’s music career is going great, there are still a few things she would like to accomplish. Drew explained that it would be honor if she had the opportunity to work with the legendary Stevie Wonder because he has paved the way for artists of different genres in the industry. Drew also played in a new Frankenstein movie called Frankenhood. Continued on page 29 www.GoddessGirlMag.com

I liked that you didn’t go with the “hood style” type of dresses we see nowadays at the proms…anyway; my question is geared toward balancing becoming “Vain” with wanting to be a beautiful young lady with the latest fashions! I am a young woman (graduating high school this month!) who stays up on the latest fashions and trends, however I love being active in my church and want to make sure the things I wear is pleasing to God. A lot of times I find myself thinking twice about some of the things I want to wear, because I feel like other people will think I’m trying to “do too much”, so I don’t buy it or wear it – but deep down I know that I will rock it! Am I showing vain tendencies? T. Washington – South Holland, IL T, Thanks for the comments on the article’s we ran for the Prom issue, we’re glad that they inspired you during this important season! To provide some feedback to your question, let’s first look at the definition of Vain: having or showing undue or excessive pride in one's appearance or achievement (MerriamWebster Dictionary). Given that definition, I think many of us have vain tendencies’, but also we can conclude that a vain person is excessively thinking of THEMSELVES. You mentioned that you wanted to make sure that the things you wore was pleasing to God, so that means you allow yourself to judge whether it is appropriate or not by God’s standard. Great Job! However, you also mentioned that you often find yourself making a decision not to buy/ wear something because of what you think other people may say about it. Here’s my word of caution: NEVER allow someone else to have such control over things that you do, that it paralyzes your creativity or hamper your expression of who you are. Be you. Do you. No one will be able to do it better! You never know, someone may ask you to help them pick their clothing for an upcoming event, because they like your style! Go ahead, become that Stylist!! “…As we let our own light shine, then we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” - Nelson Mandela, 1994 Inaugural Speech Have questions about life, school, or relationships? Ask Goddess Girl! Falling

Humility

Falling in an abyss of restlessness, Falling in a sea of hopelessness, Falling in a pit of angrinessI’m falling short.

The Y generation, a defiant generation, Some feel all hope is lost, So many turn from life lessons learned – Pride, not humility is boss.

Falling because she said I should, Falling because he thought I would, Falling because I thought I couldI’m falling short.

Ancestors who fought boldly by day, But at night they humbly did bow, Knowing that through all life’s journeys, God would make a way somehow.

Falling because my spirit’s unaware, Falling because I’m under the enemy’s glare, Falling because I’m lost in despairI’m falling short.

In Luke, the Pharisee proudly boasted, In man’s eyes, he felt like a winner, While the tax collector lowered himself, Asking God to bless him, a sinner.

Then all of a sudden it came to me – a thought, a word, an epiphany-

Satan has you thinking humility is wrong, To be humble is to be weak, Our Father teaches humility is right, The world inherited to the meek.

I no longer fall short ‘cause I’m in his will, I no longer fall short ‘cause I look to the hills, I no longer fall short ‘cause He made Satan stand stillI am moving forward.

Life successes are not yours alone, Not solely the sweat of your brow, Wise children know Jesus is their help, The way up is truly to bow down.

I no longer fall short ‘cause to Him I pray, I no longer fall short ‘cause the enemy’s at bay, I no longer fall short ‘cause I’ve found my wayI am moving forward. I no longer fall short ‘cause I have victory, I no longer fall short ‘cause God forgave me, I no longer fall short ‘cause it’s Him, not me I am moving forward.

Humility is the key to many life blessings, A humble spirit God truly does bless, A humble heart will find peace indeed, A proud heart will never find rest.

The Goddess Within

In addition to us being created to worship, He has also fathered us in Him image. So what does that say about you? Here are a few scriptural truths about you. You and God By Elder Joffrey Hooks I’ll write them in ‘I am’ statements, so feel free to read I have a word for you. This word has been used in them out loud. contrast to another word – religion. The word that I’m thinking of is relationship. Have you heard it before? • I am a daughter of light. – I Thessalonians 5:5 I’m sure you have. You probably have used it. Have • I am a citizen of Heaven – Ephesians 2:6 you noticed that the word relationship has been used • I am delivered from the power of darkness – more and more in churches and in the Christian comDeuteronomy 32:48 – 52 munity, as opposed to the use of the word religion? • I am free from condemnation – Romans 8:1 Why has that happened? • I am hidden with Christ in God – Colossians 3:3 • I am redeemed and forgiven – Colossians 1:4 Well in these last few years, as God has continued to • I am conjoined to Christ – Romans 6:1 – 10 pour out His Spirit on all flesh (Joel 2:28) and reveal • I am a slave of righteousness – Romans 6:18 His secrets and mysteries (Daniel 2:47), He has shown Himself to be a Father that wants to be involved in all And because He is, you are. of our lives. Since creation, Elohim has desired to meet with us, talk to us, teach us, love us…even when we reject Him, as a people. He is not about giving us Please submit all questions and correspondences to a bunch of laws to follow like soul-less robots. He has elder@goddessgirlmag.com not created us to have cold relationships, especially with Him. Neither is He afar off, giving us decrees and demands. No! He is nearer to us than our most memorable pain. He is closer than the ones we love (Proverbs 18:24). He is more concerned about us A covering for his family, a protector, than we are of ourselves and others.

Fathers

So why relationship? To understand this we must understand who He is and who we are. The Bible reveals that there are about 400 names, characteristics and attributes of God. Look at the ones below for example. • • • • • • •

The Prince of Peace – Isaiah 9:6 Your Provider – Genesis 22:13 – 14 The King of kings – Revelation 19:16 The Spirit of Wisdom – Isaiah 11:2 He who searches the mind and heart – Revelation 2:23 The Holy of Holies – 1 Kings 8:6 The God who Hears – Exodus 22:27

Truly I can go on for a long time, but what we must see here is that all of these names are revealed based on some level of involvement and interdependence on God. He reveals Himself through relationship not religion. So who are we in this equation? The Book of Revelation declares that we were created to worship Him (4:11). And yes that sounds simple, but it can’t be done without two things – His Spirit and His Truth (John 4:24). Worship is intimate, it brings closeness. It is fostered by knowledge of God and connectedness with His Holy Spirit. Worshippers, true worshippers must have relationship. And that’s not just a requirement, it becomes their desire. Anybody can praise Him (Psalm 150:6) but everybody can’t worship Him.

yes, a God fearing man. An intercessor, teacher, prayer warrior, bone who takes a stand! He acknowledges God in all of his ways and for his loved ones he always prays. Purpose driven, motivated and committed to his family and he’s eager about fulfilling his ordained destiny! Heroic, positive and resourceful, one who gives hope, his time, wisdom, finances and support he willingly devotes.

Through adversities he fervently perseveres and yet sensitive enough to wipe away the tears. He is dedicated, loving and gives of himself completely, and strives daily to be the best father that he can ever be! 2008 Inspirational Poetry and Novelties by Denna inspirationalpoetrybydenna@yahoo.com All Rights Reserved!

Continued from page 25 This movie is a comedy that tells an urban tale of the classic Frankenstein story. It also stars DeRay and Charlie Murphy. Drew plays the energetic character Tammy. When asked what it was like working with the comedian Charlie Murphy, she stated, “he was hilarious and it was a great experience.” The movie has been released on DVD and is in stores now. Along with the new Frankenhood movie, Drew is playing in a new TV series called Crossing Over that is scheduled to come out in 2010. Crossing Over is a new reality TV show featuring Drew’s journey in the entertainment industry. Drew’s impressive background and drive to succeed proves that she is the type of role model that leads by example. I was curious about how she made it so far with the obstacles that she faced. Many young women today become easily wrapped up in negative influences and peer pressure. Drew has been faced with peer pressure, but she decided to make the right choice, which was to follow her heart. For Drew her dream worked out well, but it was still a challenge pursuing success. She maintained a high-grade point average and honors academic standing during high school. Drew understands that obstacles come with life, and her advice to young girls is to, “Keep God first, follow your dreams, be productive, and rely on others.” Drew explained that relying on others for help is not a sign of weakness, but a sign of being smart and using your resources. People can always help you, which is what Drew has figured out in her life. Her family was supportive and she relied on them at times, but her family also had to allow her to make her own mistakes while growing up. Her positive message and values make Drew Sidora a great role model for young women. Her passion and drive is enough to give hope to young girls who are looking to live out their dreams. Hearing her story is confirmation that anyone can work towards going the extra mile to achieve his or her goals. Drew Sidora is a true inspiration to many young people and Goddess Magazine; we hope now that she has become an inspiration to you also.
