If Las Vegas is the city of excess, Guy Fieri is its perfect culinary ambassador. The TV personality, restaurateur and UNLV grad brings his signature dishes to the Strip with Guy Fieri’s Flavortown Sports Kitchen , where bold flavors (and bolder portions) meet wall-to-wall sports action.
Flavortown’s formula is simple: part sports bar, part restaurant, all Guy Fieri. Dozens of high-definition screens line the space, which means there isn’t a bad seat in the house, whether you’re here to cheer on the Raiders, root for the Vegas Golden Knights or keep tabs on your fantasy team. (Some of us are just here for the Trash Can Nachos, and there’s no shame in that game plan.)
True to its name, Flavortown pulls no punches with over-the-top takes on American classics. Start with bourbon brown sugar barbecue wings, sticky and smoky in all the right ways. The quesa-birria Mexican “pizza,” pictured, delivers bold Mexican flavors with Fieri’s signature twist, while the crispy cheese never disappoints the home crowd. (Then again, who would be disappointed in a burger with bacon, a cheese “skirt” and donkey sauce?)
Ribs, mac and cheese and a barbecue platter are other items that take cheat day to the extreme. Whether your team wins or loses, end the evening with the Big Brookie, Fieri’s dessert mashup that’s part brownie, part cookie and all indulgence.
The drink program provides the perfect matchup for the food’s championship-level calorie counts, featuring refreshing margaritas made with Fieri’s own Santo tequila brand alongside an arsenal of cocktails, craft beers and wines designed to fuel game day festivities. If you’re in town during the week, hit the weekday all-you-can-eat brunch for just $19.99, featuring MVP favorites like Fieri Family French Toast and Off Da Hook Biscuits n’ Gravy, the perfect fuel for a Vegas adventure.
Flavortown’s vibe is pure Guy: loud, playful and unapologetically fun. Dress code? Your favorite jersey, because this is a celebration of comfort food and sports fandom served up with Fieri’s legendary energy. You’d expect nothing less from the man who turned donkey sauce into a household phrase. –Genevie Durano

In what is sure to be one of the best mixed martial arts matches of the year, UFC stars Alex Pereira and Magomed Ankalaev will fight for the light heavyweight championship belt this week in Vegas for UFC 320. Ankalaev (21-1-1), who took the belt from Pereira in a March bout, will have his hands full, as Pereira (12-3-0), a former multiweight kickboxing champion as well as UFC middleweight champion, is one of the most decorated combat sports athletes of all time.
At 6-foot-4 and 205 pounds, Pereira, 38, is an imposing fighter with devastating power, with most of his wins coming by knockout or TKO. He is very evenly matched by the 6-foot3, 205-pound Ankalaev, 33, a superb striker who has more than half of his wins coming by knockout or TKO. This will very much be a chess match, with both fighters patiently waiting for cracks to appear. But with Pereira anxious to reclaim his title, don’t be surprised to see sparks early on.
Make sure to get to T-Mobile Arena early, as there’s plenty of undercard action, including a bantamweight title fight between Merab Dvalishvili (20-4) and Cory Sandhagen (18-5) and a light heavyweight clash between Jiří Procházka and Khalil Rountree Jr.—both of whom lost to Pereira by knockout in 2024. –Ken Miller

In 2017, up in the Red Rock mountains of Nevada, Gila monster Chance was born. It was the same year that the Vegas Golden Knights became a professional NHL team, and once he heard the news he made his way down the mountain.
“I came down from Red Rock mountains, straight to City National Arena, saw the guys practicing here and immediately became a super fan and was asked to be the mascot of the organization,” he says.
Since then, Chance has become a main attraction at every VGK game.
“I always enjoy giving high fives, biting people’s heads,” he says. “I love interacting with fans.” Chance was also awarded the 2024-’25 NHL community mascot award—an award that goes to the mascot that has the most impact in the community. Chance was a busy Gila monster during last off-season, making 321 appearances across five different states and Mexico. “It was very cool to win that award,” he says.
During the games, you can catch Chance scurrying all over the arena and

But Game 5 of the 2023 Stanley Cup Final, when the team won its first Stanley Cup, was, of course, his favorite game of all time. “My parents are very proud that I not only get to go out into the community and represent such a wonderful organization, but that I’m also a Stanley Cup champion!” –Kiko Miyasato

For the first 22 years of his life, Maxx Crosby’s exposure to Las Vegas was limited to glimpses he caught on television and movie screens.
The first time the Raiders’ All-Pro edge rusher can really remember hearing about the city came when he was 7 years old and, like millions of Americans, caught the finale of the UFC’s The Ultimate Fighter reality show. Watching alongside his older brother and father, Crosby was mesmerized by the striking war between longtime locals Forrest Griffin and the late Stephan Bonnar in a warehouse tucked behind the Strip, an epic battle that saw Griffin emerge victorious.
The April 2005 fight has long been credited with saving the UFC from allbut-certain demise, but it turns out it also inspired what’s become of the most notable athletes in Las Vegas history.
“I was really young, but I became a big UFC guy because it was so real,” Crosby says. “It’s nothing against the WWE, but I couldn’t watch the WWE anymore. The guys I idolized were like the (longtime UFC middleweight champion) Anderson Silvas, the guys fighting in Vegas.”
Crosby’s love affair with combat sports and fascination with the neon lights of the Strip makes it hard to believe that he never so as much as visited the city until the conclusion of his rookie season in the NFL. He flew into Southern Nevada in January 2020 ahead of the Raiders’ move from Oakland to Las Vegas to find a place to live for the upcoming season.
He’s never left for long in the five and a half years since.
“This city is full of mavericks— people that go against the grain, that chase their dreams and stand up for what’s right. I feel like that’s exactly what being a Raider is.”
One of his luxury vehicles is often alone in the parking lot—lately, it’s usually his Rolls-Royce Phantom with a custom silver-and-black wrap. It’s a ritual that started before his second season in Las Vegas under coach Jon Gruden and has maintained into the current tenure of Pete Carroll—Crosby’s fifth coach with the Raiders.
And now he’s a staple cageside or ringside for the biggest fights in the world (as long as it’s during the NFL offseason). He even trains with some of his fighting heroes in local gyms to help hone his otherworldly cardio and killer instinct.
“After my rookie year, I told everyone, ‘I’m going to every fight I possibly can,’” Crosby says. “I’ve stuck to my word and gone to as many as I can. I’ve developed even more of a love for it.”
That’s the main, if not the only, way to see Crosby out and about around town. Yes, he does attend the odd WNBA game at Michelob Ultra Arena (he’s pictured attending a game with Theo
Von on p. 35), or play in the odd charity softball game at Las Vegas Ballpark in Summerlin (pictured below), but the 28-year-old otherwise limits his time out in the public spotlight. It’s all because of an unyielding dedication to his craft. Crosby’s alarm goes off at 5 a.m. every morning, and he prides himself on being the first player to reach the Raiders’ Henderson headquarters.
“... When I’m retired, whenever that day is, maybe I’ll go on a couple more vacations,” Crosby says. “But for the time being, I’m focused on being the best on the planet at what I do on and off the field.”
Carroll, one of the most decorated football coaches ever, had been around Crosby for less than two months when he and the team’s other new decisionmakers made the decision to make him the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history.
Crosby signed a three-year, $105 million extension with the Raiders this offseason, cementing him as the face of the franchise for years to come. A couple of other players across the league have since signed larger deals, but Carroll said it was an honor to briefly give Crosby the record because he embodied everything the Raiders should stand for.
“There’s no way you could find anybody that is more focused and directed and committed to giving everything he’s got to every opportunity,” Carroll said.
Crosby’s maniacal discipline to “be legendary”—a phrase that’s tattooed across his chest next to portraits of athletes like Muhammad Ali—took off simultaneous to his move to Las Vegas. Less than a month after he started to settle in, he had to make the hardest decision of his life.
“(Vegas is) my home now. Anything you want is out here. There’s always something big and grand going on and that’s just how I live my life. It makes too much sense to me.”
On March 11, 2020—a date inked across his right hand—he checked into rehab right as the world began shutting down for the COVID-19 pandemic. He had an alcohol problem for years, one that nearly derailed his NFL dreams, but hasn’t had a drink since.
Crosby’s connection with Las Vegas therefore refutes many of the city’s most tired stereotypes like the idea that excess exists above all else.
“Everyone thinks Las Vegas and thinks of the crazy, the shiny lights and things like that,” Crosby said. “But honestly, it’s more than that. There are a lot of great people, a lot of great families. I love Las Vegas. I just feel like I’m meant to be here.”
Crosby could easily function like many other NFL players and live a more nomadic lifestyle, settling in town for
the season but traveling or spending his time closer to his childhood homes during the down months. Instead, he’s planted roots in Southern Nevada. He and his wife, Rachel, recently put the finishing touches on their “dream home” in Summerlin, where they’re raising their young daughter, Ella.
Crosby has Michigan and Texas, the two states where he grew up, tattooed on his leg, but Nevada has his heart now. He can’t envision a scenario where that changes.
“It’s my home now,” Crosby said. “Anything you want is out here. There’s always something big and grand going on, and that’s just how I live my life. It makes too much sense to me.”
He’s done philanthropic work and donated money elsewhere like to his college alma mater of Eastern Michigan University, where the football team plays on Crosby Field, but most of his efforts have been focused locally. He launched the Maxx Crosby Foundation in 2023, which does outreach for teens with substance abuse issues, children who are unhoused or living in low-income areas, and pets, mainly pit bulls, that require rescue—all causes he’s passionate about. The foundation often sees him in public; when the YMCA of Southern Nevada donated $50,000 to his foundation, he attended the ceremony, playing catch with some local kids (pictured on opposite page).
Crosby said he’s learned a lot about giving back to the community from UFC president Dana White, whom he now calls
“one of my closest friends.” Not much about his sudden fame and notoriety over the last few years have gotten to Crosby, but he admits it’s surreal being a part of White’s inner circle.
The compliments aren’t just one-way, either. “We were tailor-made to be really good friends,” White said. “This guy works harder than anybody I’ve ever seen. He wants to be the best. He wants to win. His will to bring a championship to Vegas is unlike anything I’ve ever seen.”
The Raiders haven’t gotten there
Maxx Crosby’s influence and impact on Las Vegas has grown by leaps and bounds:
He’s recorded episodes of his popular podcast, The Rush with
Maxx Crosby, at Eight Cigar Lounge at Resorts World Las Vegas, co-hosting with college teammates Brogan Roback and Darien Terrell. It’s an entertaining, in-depth look at
the week’s games, with plenty of behind-the-scenes perspective.
At the M Resort & Casino (the official team headquarters hotel for the Raiders), Crosby has been honored with his very own burger—the Madd Maxx burger, featuring a 10-ounce Angus patty topped with grilled onions, mushrooms, Swiss cheese and light mayo.
yet, which is the one thing that eats at Crosby and keeps pushing him forward despite all the individual accolades he’s accumulated through six full seasons in the NFL.
The franchise has only reached the playoffs once both since Crosby joined the team and it moved to Las Vegas, exiting in the first round via a loss to Cincinnati in January 2022. But Crosby is hopeful the new pairing with Carroll provides the best chance yet to bring the success he yearns for to the place he never wants to leave.
“This city is full of mavericks—people that go against the grain, that chase their dreams and stand up for what’s right,” Crosby said. “I feel like that’s exactly what being a Raider is—standing on your own, being your own individual and bringing others along with you. It’s the Entertainment Capital of the World and, the Raiders, our goal is to be the entertainment capital of football.”

Think back on the most legendary boxing matches of the last 60 years. Odds are Bob Arum was connected to most or all of them. The legendary promoter and founder and CEO of Top Rank has promoted nearly 2,500 fights over the last six decades, including the “Thrilla in Manila” with Muhammad Ali and George Foreman in 1975, the “No Mas” fight between Sugar Ray Leonard and Roberto Duran in 1980, and the epic three-round war between Thomas Hearns and Marvin Hagler in 1985. He recently spoke with Las Vegas Magazine about the future of boxing in a rapidly expanding sports town.
What do you think is the future of boxing in Las Vegas?
We’re now in an era where it’s competing with other professional sports. Who would have believed—we have an NFL team, an NHL team, we have a women’s professional basketball team? All of them get attention, and rightly so, and all of them are featured on television. So again, there are other sports, UFC for example, that are competing for attention with boxing. It’s not like it used to be, where boxing almost had a monopoly on attention as far as professional sports was concerned.
Do you think that’s going to be to its detriment, or do you think it will continue to be successful?
I think it can be successful, but it won’t have the same aura that it had before, because it has to share the spotlight with so many other professional sports, which it didn’t have to do before. That’s only going to get bigger, because we’re about to have a professional major league baseball team, we’re about to have an NBA team. So all of that takes away from the importance of boxing. Boxing still has a place, but it will never again be the dominant force in Las Vegas that it once was.
Is there one moment or fight you would choose as the most memorable of your career in Las Vegas?
Did any city benefit more from boxing than Las Vegas?
No. Remember, for a long time the only place that you could legitimately bet on a fight was in Las Vegas. No other place was legal to bet on a sporting event. That came later, but it was in Las Vegas that it was legal. So I mean, yeah, Vegas was made for boxing and indeed is made for all professional sports. And that’s why in 10 years, if not less, it will be a home for every professional sport of note in the world.
The fight that I think epitomized the era and was a sensational fight and people who were alive then and watched it still talk about was Marvin Hagler against Tommy Hearns. Those three rounds were the best three rounds in the history of boxing. Two great fighters at the peak of their powers going at it hammer and tongs. There’s been nothing since as wonderful as that fight. It was crazy. I remember Joan Rivers was sitting next to me, and after the first round, she looked at me and said, “Are they all like this?” I said, “No Joan, you’re watching something really special.”
The competitive fun of sports doesn’t have to stop at just watching sports. In Vegas, there are countless opportunities to compete with friends while you frolic around town. So, whether it’s a fast-paced, high-intensity match up or some chill gamesmanship you’re looking for, we have a way to play for you.
For starters, how competitive are you, really?
I’m really just here to have fun.
Do you like playing i n teams or on your own ?
Winning is fun, but I like the challenge of the game.
Are you the total jock type or an absolute band geek ?

I appreciate a bit of camaraderie.
Sportiness is s ynonymous with me.
I would be at home in the bleachers.
I’m humble, but I’m a top performer for sure. I’ll certainly impress those who’ve underestimated me.
There’s no rush, wh y not play awhile?
Can you be trusted with sharp objects ?
There’s only an hour or two available in the schedule.
Would you rather book a Quick Activity or make a day out of it?
Are you ready to get physical ?
I’d like to move around a bit.
I’m a bit clumsy.
Without a doubt.

I’d rather not break a sweat.

Let’s try something with some gusto.
Let’s just party and play a bit. I want some serious competition. Take me to the digital realm.
OK, so maybe you’re more of a slow and accurate kind of athlete rather than a speedy player. We totally get it. Luckily you can take aim at The Range 702 and get all the bits of gamesmanship that come with target practice without all the sweating that comes with other sports. Not only will you find all your favorite arcade classics here, but you can really find some gameplay action with games like NBA Hoops and Air Hockey and sports simulations including soccer, football, baseball and much more. Possibly the most fun sport here is the duckpin bowling. (Yes, bowling is a sport.) With smaller and lighter pins, strikes become much more rare, adding a bit of challenge to the common game. Stay out of the kitchen! Or don’t. We don’t know the rules, but we do know that the Pickleball craze has certainly swept the nation and there are plenty of paddlers out and about. The best part of pickleball is that you only need two players to have a game, so if you’re here on a romantic getaway or traveling with a business partner, this is a great way to get some activity in without needing a whole squad. And don’t worry if you left your paddle at home; they have some for you to borrow. Westgate Las Vegas. 702.732.5648

The Ultimate Fighting Championship has been a Las Vegas sports institution ever since Dana White convinced his friends Lorenzo and Frank Fertitta to purchase the mixed martial arts promotion in 2001. That doesn’t mean the early days were spent without their challenges, even after the organization started to gain some traction a few years after setting up shop locally.
“Things were blowing up and I still couldn’t get production people to move to Las Vegas,” White tells Las Vegas Magazine. “They either wanted to be in New York or L.A. We couldn’t get real salespeople to move out to Vegas, and the list goes on and on. Now, we can get anybody to move to Vegas.”
The UFC has become sports’ most remarkable success story under White as the Fertitta brothers purchased the promotion for $2 million before selling it to Endeavor for more than $4 billion in 2016. The sale price looked shocking at the time, but it’s turned out to be a bargain considering the UFC’s television revenue alone. The UFC is finishing off a $1.5 billion contract with ESPN this year before jumping to CBS and Paramount+, which paid $7.7 billion for a seven-year rights deal beginning in January 2026.
Meanwhile, White and his team are often credited with being ahead of the curve and revolutionizing professional sports in Las Vegas. He’s not bashful about all the business success, but exercises more humility when asked about his role in Las Vegas’ recent sports explosion.
“Zero,” White answers when asked how much credit he and his team takes. “We were the first sports league
in Vegas, but before us, there was UNLV basketball, and you could see the potential for Vegas to be a sports town. The city was always meant to be transformed from a Podunk gaming town to a major city in the United States, specifically in the sports realm.”
White, who mostly grew up in New England but spent time at Bishop Gorman High as a teenager (where he met the Fertittas), has enjoyed being a spectator to the rise just as much as a contributor. He was one of the first people to buy a luxury box at Allegiant Stadium to watch every Las Vegas Raiders’ home game, and has even come around on the Vegas Golden Knights. He considers one of his biggest misses to be his response when the Maloof family pitched him on investing to bring professional hockey to Las Vegas more than a decade ago.
“I said, ‘That’s (expletive) crazy, it’s never going to work,’” White says. “Now the Knights are huge. Everyone has the license plates. Everybody’s wearing the merch, and they do massive business, but I didn’t see the potential for it.”
White would never consider moving the UFC’s headquarters, as he believes Las Vegas’ unique entertainment and dining options are a perfect match with fans coming in for a fight weekend. Much speculation existed around his future with the company when he received a personal $360 million payout as part of the sale in 2016, but he’s remained motivated to front what’s turned into the largest combat sports league in history.
White promises more groundbreaking is ahead in 2026, including a summer spectacular card on the White House South Lawn, new UFC Performance Institutes being built globally and broadcast innovation with the new television deal. “I’m always looking at what’s next— the next level, the next technology,” White says. “Our goal in the next seven years is to do big things with CBS, Paramount and other ventures we’re getting into. We’re going to stay aggressive.”
“Off the charts, amazing Italian food. Every time I go in there, it’s an incredible experience. The service is amazing, the food is great, and they have a great bar, so get there early.”
“I know it’s a Fertitta place but I ain’t going to lie for (expletive) anybody. The steaks are off the (expletive) charts. All the sides are great, and they have the best burger in town.”
“If you like Chinese food, it’s unbelievable. There’s always great service and it’s a beautiful restaurant.”
“It’s a local spot but, if you want to get off the Strip and search for some good food, it’s incredible.”

Las Vegas has concerts, theater, celebrity chefs, UFC, boxing and golf. But did you know it’s also home to nine professional sports teams, the smallest market with that many teams? What makes Vegas especially interesting to see a game in is that it draws visitors from all over, including fans from opposing teams.
Las Vegas’ transformation into a professional sports city began with this expansion team, its first major professional sports league entry. The Vegas Golden Knights entered the Pacific Division of the Western Conference of the National Hockey League in 2017, playing at T-Mobile Arena, and took the Stanley Cup in 2023. The team enjoyed huge success from the start, with regular sellouts. Preseason games began in September this year, with 82 regular season games to follow.
Another team with a huge local following, the Aces played as the Utah Starzz and the San Antonio Stars before moving to Las Vegas in 2017 to play at Michelob Ultra Arena at Mandalay Bay. Since then, this incredibly talented women’s basketball team has won two WNBA championships (in 2022 and 2023). In 2025, after 44 regular season games, the Aces clinched a playoff
berth, and WNBA Finals start Oct. 3. Barring an upset, expect to see the Aces there.
Formed in 1960 in the American Football League, the Raiders played both in Oakland and L.A. before moving to Las Vegas in 2020, where a dedicated fan base expanded even more.
They now play at Allegiant Stadium just across Interstate 15 from the Strip (there’s even a walkway over the freeway to get to the stadium) and have a 17-game schedule in the season. This week, the Raiders play the Bears in Vegas on Sept. 28 and head out of town to Indianapolis for Oct. 4. They return to face the Tennessee Titans on Oct. 12.
The history of minor league baseball is long and winding, and the Las Vegas Aviators had its genesis in Portland, Ore., in 1919 in the Pacific Coast League. The Portland Beavers played from 1919 to 1972, then changed names and cities, becoming the Stars in 1983. The Stars evolved into the 51s and then the Aviators, who now play in the Summerlin community at the Las Vegas Ballpark in the PCL, and as the minor league affiliate for the Athletics. The Aviators enjoy widespread community support in Vegas, with reasonable tickets and fun games.
The Las Vegas Lights FC weren’t the first soccer team to be located in Las Vegas, but are certainly the longest lasting. The team plays at Cashman Field near downtown Las Vegas, where the Las Vegas Stars/51s played for many years.
Affordable tickets are paired with many promotions, making sure that the excitement goes beyond the field. The Lights wraps up its 30-game season in the United Soccer League against the Oakland Roots on Oct. 11.
Playing football during the heat in Las Vegas might not seem like a good idea, but it hits different when it’s in an indoor arena (air conditioning!). The Vegas Knight Hawks play at Lee’s Family Forum in Henderson from the end of March to the end of August. This year, the Knight Hawks won the Indoor Football League championship for the first time, on the final play of the game. Fun promotions and a family-friendly atmosphere make this a locals favorite.
Silver Knights games are also played at Lee’s Family Forum. The Silver Knights play in the American Hockey League, and moved to Nevada in 2020, changing names from the San Antonio Rampage. Preseason and regular season games in the 2025-’26 season start on Oct. 11 and run through April, with the last home game on April 14.
A relatively new addition to Las Vegas’ pro teams, the Las Vegas Desert Dogs are an expansion team of the
National Lacrosse league, with its first season in 2022-’23. This box lacrosse team plays its home games in Henderson’s Lee’s Family Forum, with an 18-game season that start in December. Nine of those are in the Las Vegas
Valley. For the 2025-’26 season, games start Oct. 20.
When Major League Volleyball was formed in 2023, Las Vegas was the last
team to be awarded a franchise, and began playing in 2024. This pro women’s volleyball team plays in Lee’s Family Forum from January through May. The team has proven to be a big draw for local volleyball fans.

Libra Sept. 23-Oct. 22
Let your zodiac sign guide you to the perfect wing
Flats, drumsticks, boneless or vegan? No matter what your wing preference is, we can all agree they taste best if you eat them while you root for your favorite sports team to win. And in Vegas, countless bars and restaurants serve up these finger food delights. We’ve rounded up some of our favorites and turned to the cosmos to give you the best recommendations.
Leave it to Libra to choose a hoppin’ hot spot that’s serving something for everyone while simultaneously offering a sensible stadium parking solution to meet at before catching the game. We suppose we should expect nothing less from this diplomatic and practical sign.
At WSKY Stadium , find wings piled high in plates of eight, 12 or 24 and drenched in delicious sauce. Choose from the classic
buffalo, WSKY BBQ, stadium garlic (WSKY’s take on garlic Parm) or T&T sauce, which is essentially a mixture of every other wing flavor all in one. If you prefer to keep your hands a bit cleaner, opt for the punchy lemon pepper dry rub. And of course, these flavorful delights come with fries, celery and carrots, making these the perfect plates to satiate a hungry gamegoer or great platters to share with friends.
