He’s Still The King

The legacy of Elvis Presley is forever intertwined with Las Vegas. His iconic residency, which stretched from 1969 to 1976 at The International Hotel (now the Westgate Las Vegas) set the template for all others that followed, but the power and influence of his Vegas shows has never been surpassed. As many entertainers have come and gone, Elvis still gets mentioned whenever the subject turns to “best ever.”

Elvis would have been 90 this year, and this week’s issue of Las Vegas Magazine commemorates that birthday with a pictorial essay on the Imperial Sky Villa at Westgate Las Vegas (Elvis’ home during his Las Vegas run), recently redecorated to reflect his life and legacy (“The Suite Life,” p. 32).

Speaking of live entertainment in Las Vegas, there are two extremely special acts in town this week. Scorpions, which celebrates its 60th anniversary as a band this year, celebrates that milestone with a series of concerts at Planet Hollywood (“Still Stinging,” p. 40), while Sublime, which is working on its first new album since 1996, performs a series of shows at Dolby Live at Park MGM (“California Gold,” p. 48).

While enjoying this musical buffet, don’t forget to hit something closer to an actual buffet—in this case, a food hall, one of the fastest-growing trends in Las Vegas. It’s not an exaggeration to say that the food hall lineup here has something for literally everyone (“The Spice of Life,” p. 42).

And fans of the party scene will definitely want to check out associate editor Kiko Miyasato’s collection of the newest offerings, both on and off the Strip (“What’s New,” p. 24).

While much has changed in Las Vegas since the days of The King, one thing remains constant: This is the most exciting city in the world.

The Strip Shines Because of Her

This ballad-belting pop icon is back!

We’ve sure missed Kelly Clarkson since she’s been gone from the Las Vegas stage. Her exclusive 2023-’24 residency at Planet Hollywood, Chemistry… An Intimate Night with Kelly Clarkson, was a sold-out success, drawing fans in for a raw, emotional and unforgettable performance. Now the Grammy Award-winning superstar is back with a brand-new show, Kelly Clarkson: Studio Sessions—The Las Vegas Residency, at Caesars Palace. The limited engagement goes through November.

“I’m so excited to be back in Vegas,” said Clarkson in a news release. And it’s easy to understand why. Las Vegas gives her the perfect stage to do what she does best: connect with an audience. Performing at The Colosseum, a space known for its iconic residencies and great acoustics, she brings her big vocals and relatable honesty into a venue that feels surprisingly close-knit for a 4,000-seat theater.

Since winning the first season of American Idol at only 20, Clarkson has become one of music’s most iconic and recognizable voices. With more than 25 million albums and 40 million singles sold, she’s topped nearly every Billboard

chart, from pop, dance and country to adult contemporary. Along the way, she’s picked up three Grammys, four American Music Awards, a slew of MTV awards and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

“Writing and performing music you love just because you love it, with people that you respect and admire … is what High Road Records is all about,” she said. Her debut single on that label, “Where Have You Been,” was inspired by a scene in the Hulu series Only Murders in the Building, when Martin Short’s character asks Meryl Streep’s that exact question. Clarkson turned that line into a song about finally finding the love you’ve been searching for, and knowing enough to recognize it when it arrives.

For Clarkson, this residency isn’t simply about the hits; it’s about sharing the journey behind them—the heartbreak, the growth, the joy. Studio Sessions is a chance to hear the songs you love, told by the voice that lived them, in a way you’ve never quite heard them before. – Genevie Durano

Hole-in-... Who Cares?

Have a blast putting around with your friends at this endlessly fun attraction

This is Las Vegas, so why would we do anything typical? We go over the top. And Swingers Las Vegas fits this aesthetic perfectly. It’s not just a mini golf course—it’s crazy golf, an activity made popular in Britain that combines mini golf, cocktails and elevated street food. “We thought, ‘What if we took a hugely fun and accessible activity like mini golf, created an immersive world around it, and made sure that the food, drink and service was second to none?’” Swingers co-CEO and co-founder Matt Grech-Smith said.

Golfers get to experience an immersive English countryside with multiple levels and four nine-hole courses. (If a caddie sees you make a hole-in-one, you might be awarded with a free shot!) The crazy golf vibes continue with the elevated street food options, including burgers and a Detroit-style pizza Grech-Smith boldly claims might be the best on the Strip! Next up are the cocktails—a huge menu of specialty sips, including the popular espresso martini with Ketel One, St. George Nola coffee liqueur, Tempus Fugit crème de cacao a la vanille and espresso. (Flag a caddie and order any drink on any of the courses.)

Extras (like we said, this is Vegas after all) include a lounge area where DJs perform and multiple bar areas. On the top floor, you’ll find an old-school carnival experience, with classic games like ring toss and Skee-ball, where you can collect tickets to exchange for Swingers-branded merch.

New this summer season is the launch of family sessions— from now through Aug. 31, bring the kids (ages 5 and up) along for some mini golf fun between noon and 5 p.m. daily. Besides the whole family testing their skills on the four courses, Swingers has also launched a fun kid’s menu ages 5-12, too, with mini corn dogs and pizza bites as well as a junior’s menu (ages 13-20) with alcohol-free libations like the Virgin Mojito and Virgin Pina Colada. –Kiko Miyasato

Start Your Engines!

Local queens pop off in drag competition series

If the phrase “Racers, start your engines, and may the best drag queen win!” makes you excited, then you’ve got to head slightly off-Strip to Gipsy for Drag Royale, a drag competition series that’s bringing all your favorite challenges from the Emmy-winning TV show RuPaul’s Drag Race to life in an upbeat, buzzing bar setting. Not to mention, the competition is judged by Ru-Girls such as Shanel, Alexis Matteo and Jaymes Mansfield and hosted by RPDR fan favorite and local scene gem Mirage, pictured.

Each week, local performers compete to become the Drag Royale champion, and this Thursday is the series finale, so you’ll see a mini-reunion with all the eliminated competitors. The final four contestants will slay individual performances and a final runway (and these queens have been turning looks, honey!). And of course, it wouldn’t be an ode to Drag Race without a lip sync smackdown, so expect to leave thoroughly entertained.

The show starts at 10 p.m., which means not only can you have a nice dinner beforehand, but you’ll be out in time to catch the 1:30 a.m. show across the street at Gipsy’s sister property, Piranha Nightclub. Another huge bonus here: The drinks are cheap and the pours are heavy, plus you’re only about 5 minutes from the Strip, so an Uber back to your hotel shouldn’t break the bank either. –Em Jurbala

Moving Magic

This Vegas headliner combines amazing sleight of hand with dramatic storytelling

America’s Got Talent hasn’t just presented Las Vegas with some of the world’s best entertainers over the decades; it has also provided the world with some truly unforgettable television moments. By far, one of the show’s best was the unveiling of Shin Lim , whose story of choosing between two different worlds of entertainment (he could have been a world-class pianist instead of a magician) was as captivating as his act itself. And from the moment he took a signed queen of spades from Tyra Banks and made it vanish and reappear during his audition, he was a superstar, one who would go on to fill rooms nightly at The Mirage.

With the closing of The Mirage to make way for the Hard Rock Hotel, Lim had to find a new home to work his magic, and he has found it at The Palazzo Theatre at The Venetian. Fans who remember his Mirage shows will notice one significant difference: He won’t have his usual co-star, mentalist (and fellow AGT alumnus) Colin Cloud, who provided a bit of comedic relief amid Lim’s mind-blowing set pieces. (Cloud is now performing in his own one-man show at Harrah’s Las Vegas!) But rest assured: Lim is not only more than capable of sustaining a show on his own (after all, the man has won AGT not once but twice), but he’s currently joined by magician Stuart MacLeod.

If you’ve never seen Lim’s show before, you are in for some of the most elegant and jaw-dropping illusions even seen on a Vegas stage. For instance, you might see the illusion that won him the 2015 championship of the Federation Internationale des Societes Magiques in close-up card magic, which Lim is very proud of, as this competition is notoriously hard to win. You might also see the illusion that fooled both Penn and Teller on their reality competition, Penn & Teller: Fool Us. (An important note: They’re not often fooled.) And you might see the act that won his respective AGT seasons. (Trust us: As cool as it was on television, it’s far more impressive live.) –Ken Miller

Few Equals

Downtown steakhouse continues to be a standard-bearer

Las Vegas is a town full of outposts of some of the most popular restaurants in the world. And best of all, those outposts are usually equal to—if not better than— the originals. And whether you’ve tried the original Vic & Anthony’s Steakhouse in Houston, Texas, or not, odds are you will agree that it’s easily one of the best restaurants in all of downtown Vegas. This is what you picture in your mind if you close your eyes and imagine a classic steakhouse—dark woods, immaculately appointed tables, soft lighting fixtures and an attentive and impeccably dressed staff. While you sip on classic cocktails like a Manhattan or Old-Fashioned or sip a vintage from the restaurant’s enormous

selection, get things started with delightful appetizers like steak tartare, featuring filet mignon and served with puffed rice chips, pickle shallots and a horseradish aioli, all topped with a cured egg yolk; a maple-glazed quail with sriracha sauce; or a lobster bisque with a cognac base. There are simply too many great steaks to recommend here, but a fan favorite is the chateaubriand. While a close cousin to filet mignon, this is served in a much bigger portion—20 ounces of juicy, silky-smooth deliciousness. You can choose to have it served whole or sliced into smaller portions; there are no wrong choices. Complements include bearnaise sauce and blue cheese bacon butter.

Not in a steak mood? No problem. Mac and cheese gets a major upgrade with the dinner-sized portion of fried lobster mac and cheese, prepared with a 5-ounce lobster tail, cavatappi pasta and lobster cheese sauce. Fowl fans will flip for the succulent pan-roasted chicken, served with mashed potatoes and asparagus. Seafood lovers will have a tough time deciding between the roasted salmon, served with smoked Gouda, jumbo lump crab, mashed potatoes and asparagus, and the halibut, accompanied by gremolata, celery root risotto, baby squash and zucchini. –Ken Miller

General manager loves the rush of working in restaurants

After decades in the industry, Tayna Hodge still loves that buzz, that adrenaline rush, that craziness of working in restaurants. “There’s something about running a restaurant,” she says. “When it’s in-season and everyone is doing their job and I’m like the conductor and interacting with everyone and getting my hands dirty and getting in it with everyone, it’s a rush. We’re all a bunch of adrenaline junkies in this industry.”

Born in Southern California, Hodge moved to Nevada at a young age. Getting

her very first job at just 13 as a dishwasher in Boulder City, she went on to work in restaurants from Oregon to Maui and Montana to Las Vegas. She’s run some of the most epic spots on the Strip, but her most recent journey brought her to downtown for the first time: Triple George Grill at Downtown Grand, where she’s been general manager for the last five years.

“I love this little pocket of downtown; it’s really a gem,” she says. The long-running hot spot was modeled after San Francisco’s oldest steakhouse, the Tadich

Hodge also loves doing things outdoors—kayaking, hiking, scuba diving, boating. She’s also into karaoke. (She used to sing professionally.) These hobbies are a passion, but so is working in restaurants, she says. “I really love this crazy, adrenaline career. I’m passionate about it. Jack Binion’s Steak brings a twist to classic dishes

Are you a fan of steakhouses? Well, we’ve got one that is sure to satisfy. Jack Binion’s Steak channels the feel of an old-school steakhouse and marries that with a dedication to quality that its namesake built through a long career in the gam-

ing world. If you’re a bit early to dinner, hit up the gently curving bar for a quick cocktail before being ushered to an intimate dining area, softly lit, with a neon sign on the back wall.

The classic cocktail selection is done well, and we recommend ordering

The Boss’s Old Fashioned. It’s mixed with Buffalo Trace bourbon, Scrappy’s orange bitters, Angostura bitters and a club soda splash, garnished with an orange chip and Luxardo cherries. That’s smoked with cherrywood under a cloche at your table, imparting the

Prime rib

fragrance to your dining companion. They should probably have ordered one if they wanted a taste.

You might have wanted to allow a taste, because sharing the appetizers is a definite plus. Jack Binion’s Colossal Seafood Tower brings whatever is freshest to the table, and you won’t have to fight over your favorites. The shrimp cocktail offers a couple of dipping options for the crustaceans and a crab and rock shrimp brioche provides a tasty bite. But for my money, the ketchup-spiced house potato chip and pepper jack fondue dip are the bites to fight for. If you had a mom that treated

you with fresh-made potato chips as a child, the texture of these is exact. A trip down memory lane for sure, but the ketchup spice aspect is unexpected and really delicious, as is the dip.

Putting that spin on the usual seems to be a hallmark of Jack Binion’s Steak. The Bloody Mary Shaken and Stirred Wedge Salad veers from a traditional wedge, with artfully arranged lettuce, bacon, fried green tomato, blue cheese-stuffed olives and a Bloody Mary vinaigrette in a cocktail shaker.

When it comes to steak, you’ve got your choice: 16-ounce bone-in ribeye, a 10-ounce filet mignon with lobster, 14-ounce New York strip and an 8-ounce wagyu rib cap. Enhancements include a blue-cheese crust, lobster tail, Oscar-style with crab or scallop, lump crab and shrimp scampi. The slow-roasted prime rib comes in three sizes from 12 to 20 ounces, and it’s also the star of the prix fixe menu.

Other dinner options include a half a rotisserie chicken with bourbon barbecue pork baked beans; black pepper cream shrimp with grilled shrimp and a polenta cake; and seared salmon.

Sides are plentiful, and you will find it a challenge to choose only one or two. To make it easier, order them all and hope there’s room on the table. Smashed potatoes, creamed spinach, garlic-butter wild mushrooms, pepper jack mac and cheese, au gratin grilled asparagus and ranch-spiced onion strings are all really good (the onion strings are especially tasty, and I’d recommend sneaking some onto the baked potato). The baked potato is a beast, served with a flight of toppings (a literal flight, and visually attractive) like sour cream, butter, chives, bacon and, best of all, the pepper jack fondue.

Dessert might be a stretch after all those sides, but seasonal berry cobbler might just be worth it.

The palatial Imperial Sky Villa at Westgate Las Vegas celebrates icon Elvis Presley

This year would have been Elvis Presley’s 90th birthday, but since the King of Rock ’n’ Roll passed at just 42, the pelvis that belonged to Elvis is only a fond memory. But in his short tenure, he is still the biggest-selling solo artist of all time. And besides Graceland, no other place in the world is synonymous with Elvis more than Las Vegas. It was his 1969 concert series that helped open The International hotel (that is now the Westgate Las Vegas) and established Elvis’ reign over the city—with 636 consecutive sold-out shows over a span of seven years. In honor of his 90th birthday, the property recently launched its “Year of Elvis” celebration, and that includes the unveiling of the Imperial Sky Villa that has been decorated with Elvis images and storytelling plaques throughout. The four-bedroom, five-bathroom, 13,200 square-foot suite sits on the top floor of the hotel and was once called the “Elvis Presley Suite” because it’s where the superstar lived during his historic run of shows. Not only will guests get to explore the new design touches dedicated to Elvis, but they can walk in his footsteps.

Walking through the double doors to the suite, guests are first greeted with a beautiful, huge living space. Fun fact: The suite has since been reconfigured since Elvis slept there, but the living space is where his bedroom once was, so guests get to literally stand where he once slept. (What is now the giant fireplace was where his bed used to sit.) Another cool feature in the living space is a plaque of the original blueprints of the top floor of the hotel, including Elvis’ suite. You can see where the bedrooms were, the kitchen and dining room, terrace and where his bandmates slept. There was even a lounge on the top floor called the Skyroom, where Elvis and friends would spend time partying and performing. This space is also where you’ll spot the first photograph of Elvis—from July 28, 1969, a backstage shot of him prior to his first show at The International.

For a movie night, settle into the media room. For a dip, there’s a private pool with deck for sunbathing, lounging and eating. Each room has a gas-lit fireplace and hand-painted murals on the walls. Multiple floor-to-ceiling windows allow for unbeatable views of the city and beyond.

Spa-inspired bathrooms in the two master suites are huge and unbelievable in their design with marble-walled showers, double vanities, walk-in closets, step-down Jacuzzi tubs, his and her water closets, fireplaces and luxurious toiletries.

Check out the series of three photographs of Elvis at a press conference after his first performance at The International. It includes a transcript of questions from reporters, and his responses. Questions like, “How long do you rehearse for these shows?” “How do you choose the songs for the show?” “Why have you led such a secluded life all these years?” “Is it true you dye your hair?” and the question, “Elvis is there any other individual you’d rather be?” and his answer, “Are you kidding me???”

More Elvis photos and factoids to enjoy include: Elvis at his Aloha From Hawaii concert special where he performed at the Honolulu International Center Arena—the show was beamed live through satellite across the globe on Jan. 14, 1973; Elvis performing onstage at the International Hotel with fun facts about his run of shows; Elvis smiling during one of his press conferences after one of his shows at The International. When asked how he felt performing live again he responded, “This has been one of the most exciting nights of my life”; and a black-and-white photo of Elvis blowing fans a kiss.

Sixty years on, legendary band Scorpions has lost none of its power

If you’re a rock legend, Vegas is your natural habitat. This summer, one of music’s heavyweights is coming back home. Scorpions—yeah, the band that made “Rock You Like a Hurricane” the ultimate stadium anthem—is setting up shop on the Strip again, this time to mark its incredible 60-year run.

The shows run Aug. 14, 16, 19, 21 and 23 at PH Live at Planet Hollywood. Scorpions—Coming Home to Las Vegas is what they’re calling it, and it feels like the perfect way to celebrate six decades of pure rock excellence. Buckcherry’s along for the ride as special guests, which should make for some serious firepower. This marks the band’s third

“There couldn’t be a better way to celebrate summer 2025 than in Las Vegas. Come and celebrate our 60th anniversary with us and catch a rockin’ good time … we gonna sting yaaaa!!!” Klaus Meine, the band’s frontman, said in a statement.

To get some perspective on how seminal this band is, a little history lesson: These guys started in 1965 in Hanover, Germany, when rock was still figuring itself out. They were right there as heavy metal was taking shape in the ’70s, helping write the playbook for what arena rock could be. Those early records, including Lonesome Crow, Lovedrive, Virgin Killer and Vegas residency after Sin City Nights in 2022 and Love at First Sting in 2024, both of which sold out.

Animal Magnetism, built the band’s reputation one crushing riff at a time. Then came the ’80s: “No One Like You,” “Still Loving You” and that monster hit, “Rock You Like a Hurricane,” turned Scorpions into rock gods.

The numbers back it up: More than 110 million albums sold worldwide, a spot at No. 46 on VH1’s “Greatest Artists of Hard Rock” list and “Rock

another power ballad; it became the soundtrack to history. When the Berlin Wall came down and East and West Germany reunited, that song was playing everywhere. It captured something real about hope and change that still resonates today. The song went on to become one of the best-selling singles of all time, selling 14 million copies.

In fact, Scorpions is getting the Hollywood treatment with Wind of Change, a biopic starring Dominic West (The Wire) as manager Doc McGhee, with Ludwig Trepte (Generation War) playing Meine and Alexander Dreymon (The Last Kingdom) as Rudolf Schenker. It is slated for release later this year.

And Scorpions keeps rocking on, packing venues worldwide. Meine’s voice still soars, with Schenker and Matthias Jabs still bringing the guitar thunder, along with bassist Paweł Mąciwoda and drummer Mikkey Dee. For this stint at PH, expect all the hits, plus some deeper cuts that’ll remind you why these guys have lasted so long.

After 60 years, these rockers know exactly how to deliver the sting.

You Like a Hurricane” firm at No. 18 on its “100 Greatest Hard Rock Songs.” The band’s got World Music Awards on its shelf, its members’ names cemented in Hollywood’s Rock Walk, and it’s even on a postage stamp in Brazil. How many bands can claim that kind of reach?

But here’s what really sets the band in its own league: “Wind of Change.” That song became way more than just

Las Vegas’ diverse food halls will satisfy everyone in the crew

Although nearly every resort in Las Vegas has a food court, there’s a new player in town: the food hall. Food halls offer the diversity that was long a hallmark of buffets, the Las Vegas staple that for many years was “the” destination for many a visitor. After the pandemic, however, buffets began slowly ebbing from Vegas, and the emergence of the

upscale food hall began. From celebrity chefs to trending cuisines, these dining meccas promise something for everyone in the party, from the burger lover to the pho aficionado. So, start your promenade and see what lies in store for your next dining adventure.

On the second level of Aria in the former buffet area, Proper Eats was one of the first new-style food halls to open in Las Vegas (debuting in December of 2022). It brings celebrities together with comfort food, and it’s pretty sweet. Proper Bar features a large, nearly wraparound bar with plenty of seating while the food hall allows you to meander along a path past the restaurants. The food hall features options for the whole crew, whether you’re in the mood for ramen or burgers, and there are plenty of vegetarian dishes as well.

The first location of Parm Famous Italian opened in New York in 2011, and since then it’s added six more locations, including the one here in Proper Eats. This neighborhood-style restaurant delivers some of the most delicious sandwiches around, with meatball and chicken parm sandwiches, and cannolis.

Seoul Bird, from Judy Joo and Andrew Hales, opened first in London, delighting diners with delicious Korean fried chicken. Joo’s twice-fried chicken is incredible, and is served as tenders and sandwiches here.

VENUES

Easy Donuts: Fabulously decadent American favorites; Egghead: Tao Hospitality gives you egg-citing dishes with quality ingredients; Happy Leaf: Get your greens here; Laughing Buddha Ramen: Both tonkatsu and miso broths; Lola’s Burgers: Get smash burgers and Impossible burgers with garlic truffle fries; Pizzaoki: We bet you didn’t know Steve Aoki had an interest in New-York style pizza; Seoul Bird: The Poppin Cauliflower is double-fried like the chicken; Parm Famous Italian: Get pasta here, too!; Temaki Bar: A range of madeto-order hand rolls; Wexler’s Deli: You really want the Reuben, don’t you? It does go all in on pastrami; Proper Bar: Try the Gin-Z; and a little secret—Easy’s Cocktail Lounge: This speakeasy features the tiniest bar, the tiniest stage and a big dose of luxury (plus drinky-poos. Yes!). Check in at Easy Donuts for access. Maybe you’ll get in.

The newest food hall in Vegas just opened at The Venetian Resort, and packs in a curated list of options from hot spots around the country. The hall itself is bright, just off the Grand Colonnade, with restaurants lining the walls and two perched in the center of the space. At Ivan Ramen, a wildly popular N.Y. fusion spot, Ivan’s Orkin’s dishes include the Tokyo Shio ramen with chicken broth, dashi, shoyu-glazed chashu, egg and tomato. If you liked him on Chef’s Table, get ready to taste his cuisine in person. For years now, Vegas has been missing a key component in American cuisine: the bologna sandwich. It’s a lunchtime staple for generations of kids, but yes, it can get tiresome. Clever parents figured out how to make it fancy. How? Just by frying it up. At New Orleans-based Turkey and the Wolf, chef Mason Hereford elevates that secret delight even more with the Fried Bologna Sandwich, featuring Leighman’s bologna, “shrettuce” and Duke’s mayo. A collard green melt, fried chicken pot pie

and breakfast sandwiches round out the diverse menu.

VENUES

All’Antico Vinaio: The Mazzati family’s celebrated shops feature Italian schiacciata sandwiches with fresh-cut meats plus breakfast and wine; Howlin’ Ray’s: Nashville-inspired chicken featuring six spice levels; Scarr’s Pizza: Scarr Pimentel’s New-York-style and Sicilian slices from cheese to pepperoni focused on organic and all-natural ingredients—get the garlic knots!; B.S. Taqueria: Ray Garcia’s celebrated L.A.-based tacos earn rave reviews; Ivan Ramen: Japanese fusion food with such items as wagyu pastrami bao buns; Turkey and the Wolf: Twists on Southern

foods; and Close Company : This unpretentious cocktail haven from the founders of Death & Co. serves up mini martinis, beer, wine and zero-proof cocktails plus a raft of other delicious drinks.

It wasn’t long after Resorts World Las Vegas opened in 2021 that its gorgeous food hall, Famous Foods Street Eats, also began opening. Set around a curved, flowing streetscape are numerous restaurants serving up a variety of cuisines, from Malaysian noodle dishes to sushi. In the center of the area are two circular stations,

one being a bar that evokes a neon-lit Asian street and the other a sweet dessert stand, with seating throughout.

As you are cruising around the walls of the food hall looking for your next bite, take note of these options: Streetbird serves up celebrity chef Marcus Samuelsson’s fabulous fried chicken, made famous in his Red Rooster and Streetbird Rotisserie restaurants in New York. This restaurant also features Impossible chicken nuggets, so vegetarians can indulge. Across the hall from Streetbird, you’ll find Kura Kura Pa, with teriyaki bowls from DJ and music personality Steve Aoki and his brother Kevin. Look for Snake River wagyu, beef, garlic butter shrimp and garlic butter chicken, or a combo if you can’t decide.

Wuzhang Artisan Noodles: Hand-pulled noodles and tasty dumplings; Yaya’s Mediterranean Café: For gyros, hummus, baba ganoush, tzatziki and pita chips; Sweet Eats: For your sugary treats (candy apple heaven!); and the Center Bar: Not only beautifully neon-lit, but with reasonably priced drinks.

Food halls are normally very diverse, and Eataly Las Vegas is no exception. However, you will find a definite Italian thread running through most of the dishes in this huge marketplace in Park MGM. Eataly Las Vegas is topped with an enormous, soaring ceiling that creates an immediate feeling that you are elsewhere. Two normal restaurants are tucked along the north side, and the remainder is filled with a ton of food and drink stalls, counters and

bars. You’ll find breakfast, lunch, snacks and coffee in a row of counters to the east and in the elevated central area, with stalls highlighting different aspects of Italian cuisine. There are three bars in the main hall and Eataly Bar is the newest, created from a former wine shop area. (It seems fitting that a bar would go here.) Eataly Bar gives you plenty of cocktails, wine and beer to choose from, and there’s seating galore. The bar serves pizzas, plus pastas and appetizers. In the elevated La Cucina del Mercato, you can choose from steak, street food, pasta and more; these also sell

Feel that SoCal soul vibe on the Strip with Sublime

Let me tell you something about Sublime’s incredible staying power. This Gen Xer still has “Santeria” on her running playlist—28 years after its release. That driving beat about crystal balls and million-dollar dreams? Never fails to put a smile on my face and energy in my step. And this August, that unmistakable Southern California vibe takes over Las Vegas for Fear, Loathing & Sublime in Las Vegas

If you look at Sublime’s Spotify numbers—nearly 13 million monthly listeners and over 2 billion streams—it’s hard to believe the band released just three studio albums (40 oz. to Freedom, Robbin’ the Hood and Sublime) between 1992 and 1996. What made the

band work wasn’t only Bradley Nowell’s genius for blending punk aggression, reggae rhythms, ska upstrokes and hip-hop flow into something entirely fresh. It was how effortlessly natural it all sounded, like the musical equivalent of a perfect SoCal afternoon during the golden days of the ’90s.

Now, decades later, the story continues with the same authentic approach that made the band memora-

ble. The timing feels perfect. Sublime just released “Ensenada,” its first original song with Jakob Nowell— Bradley’s son—as frontman. It’s a significant milestone that bridges past and present, capturing that Sublime vibe and authenticity.

“Creating genuine music that reflects your life and times ... people tap into that,

and then you look around and realize, wow, look at all the love we’ve found,” Jakob recently told Antimusic. It’s a philosophy his father would recognize.

The three-day Vegas format at Park MGM feels

right for this next generation of Sublime. This was always a band about community, from its early days playing generator-powered shows in parking lots to headlining major venues. The weekend kicks off Thursday with KROQ’s

Miles the DJ at a welcome party, a tribute to the radio station that championed the band’s music early on. The main events on Friday and Saturday at Dolby Live will feature Jakob performing alongside original members

Bud Gaugh and Eric Wilson, the uncles who helped raise him and now stand beside him as he steps fully into the frontman role.

The supporting lineup reads like a who’s who of ’90s alternative rock: Pennywise (frequent tour partners with Sublime), The Vandals (Orange County punk legends), and The Ataris (carrying on

6:30 p.m. Aug. 15-16, starting at $163.62 plus tax and fee. ticketmaster.com

the pop-punk tradition). Long Beach Dub Allstars’ inclusion is especially meaningful: The group was formed by Gaugh and Wilson after Bradley’s passing, representing the direct continuation of Sublime’s experimental spirit.

The event comes courtesy of KROQ and sponsors that perfectly capture SoCal culture: Monster Energy, Primitive Skateboarding, Black Flys Eyewear and Long Beach Beer Lab. Die-hard fans can access exclusive VIP experiences featuring acoustic sessions and rare memorabilia displays. With “Ensenada” pointing toward new material, these Vegas shows promise to showcase beloved classics alongside a preview of the band’s exciting new direction.

As Bradley once sang in “What I Got”: “It all comes back to you, you’re bound to get what you deserve.”

And what Vegas deserves this summer is three nights of pure California gold.
