Take Your Shot

This attraction promises an unforgettable afternoon of firepower and fun

I will never forget my first visit to The Range 702. The first thing I became acutely aware of was how good I felt upon entering, a direct result of the facility’s state-of-the-art air filtration system, one of the best in Southern Nevada. And before you even take advantage of one of the many offered shooting experiences, there’s so much to look at here—a great selection of firearms for sale, equipment for budding enthusiasts and a VIP suite with three large-screen TVs for parties, presentations and more.

My friend and I chose the “Black Ops Experience,” in which you get to fire four extremely different weapons. We didn’t get to participate immediately—there was a bit of wait because all the bays were occupied. But a handy-dandy buzzer let us know when our bay was ready. We slapped on safety goggles and headphones (under which there was an added earplug for a higher level of ear safety) and we were on our way.

With our safety instructor close by to give us tips on how to hold the weapons and properly use the sighting, we were off! Each weapon was more intense than the next—the semi-auto Glock 17 (10 rounds) was smooth and accurate, the full-auto MP5 (20 rounds) was smooth and SO powerful, the full-auto M4 (20 rounds) was nothing short of mind-blowing in its power, and the M249 SAW (30 rounds) is, frankly, exhilarating in its power, recoil and speed. I truly felt like a VIP after this experience, and only wanted more.

Speaking of VIP, The Range 702 also includes four VIP lanes, and this is an experience well worth your time and money, including everything from a private hostess, LCD TVs and private restroom facilities. This is the perfect place for birthdays, anniversaries, bachelor and bachelorette parties, and more.

One of the coolest things about The Range 702 is its green philosophy: Not only are all rounds frangible (meaning they are safer, have less wear and tear on the galleries and are environmentally friendly), all 50-caliber shells get reused up to eight times. –Ken Miller

Order like a sommelier when you heed this expert advice

Need help in choosing the right wine when dining out at that fancy Strip restaurant? No problem! Las Vegas Magazine’s Ken Miller enlisted the aid of two of the Strip’s top wine experts, Dylan Amos, wine director at Delmonico Steakhouse at The Venetian, and Louis Hamilton, sommelier at Emeril’s New Orleans Fish House at MGM Grand, to answer some burning questions wine newbies might have.

What are the best red and white recommendations for wine newbies?

Hamilton: Chardonnay is a great white to start with as it’s not overly assertive and usually has a hint of oak, which imbibes a hint of brown spices. Pinot noir from California or Burgundy is wonderful as a first red wine because the tannin levels are ... more aligned with being smoother and elegant.

Amos: For both of these, I’m suggesting wines that won’t break the bank but are serious as well. Try the delightful white blend from Albert Boxler Edelzwicker Réserve. Crafted from grand cru pinot gris and riesling (and a few other grapes), this white from Alsace is balanced, bright and yummy. It’s approachable for the newbie and has the sophistication for your more experienced friends. You really can’t beat Oregon for quality at all price points. Failla Willamette Valley pinot noir is bursting with red fruits and subtle spices and florals with a soft, easygoing finish.

What should you pair with steak?

Hamilton: A full-bodied syrah from

Cornas or Walla Walla is a perfect steak pairing due to its bold structure, dark berry fruit and signature white pepper notes. Both wines have the acidity and spice to enhance the steak’s richness while balancing its char and seasoning.

Amos: At Delmonico, our go-to wine to pair with all of our steaks is the 2020 Chateau Palmer Alter Ego. The quality of tannin matches our seasoning, the minerality pairs with the dry aging, and the elegance and structure match our A5 Japanese wagyu.

Wine varies so much in price. What’s a great cheap, mid-price and expensive wine?

Hamilton: For an inexpensive wine, try Côtes du Rhône or Gamay Beaujolais. For a mid-price wine, I like to venture into Spanish Priorat and Rhônestyle blends from Paso Robles. For an expensive wine, try 1er cru Burgundy (I like Volnay and Chambertin) or older Super Tuscan wines from Italy.

Amos: For an inexpensive wine, Portuguese whites. The bang for your buck in this category is unbelievable. ... For a mid-price wine, we work with a Napa Valley cabernet called Band of Vintners. It’s masterminded by master sommelier Desmond Echavarrie and fills a gap that has been abandoned—a quality Napa cabernet that can be drunk every day. For an expensive wine, Bartolo Mascarello Barolo. An old-school stalwart that believes in blending to make the best wine every year. A masterclass in winemaking with unbelievable quality and aging potential.

Other than your restaurants, what are some hot spots for wine?

Hamilton: We enjoy La Cave at Wynn for its ambience and amazing selections. Also, Hugo’s Cellar offers a taste of old Vegas flair inside Four Queens.

Amos: Wally’s Wine & Spirits at Resorts World Las Vegas has … everything.

What wine should you pair with seafood?

Hamilton: A Spanish Albariño from Rías Baixas for its wonderful marriage of citrus fruits and minerality, which enhances the freshness of dishes like oysters and grilled fish.

Amos: We’ve recently discovered Jean Dauvissat. This house produces clean, delicious and bright chablis that will pair with everything in that seafood tower.

What wine with dessert?

Hamilton: I would go with Kracher Cuvée Beerenauslese from Burgenland, Austria for its dynamic aromatics of honey, apricot and tropical fruit.

Amos: The nutty and caramel notes of Donnafugata Ben Rye melt into Delmonico’s signature pecan pie.

How do you choose from a huge wine list?

Hamilton: Large wine lists can be daunting, but I usually locate a specific region first, like Alsace or Paso Robles, and then hunt for producers and value at the same time.

Amos: Ask for the Sommelier, give them a price point and a flavor profile, and enjoy the ride!

Storytelling and Soul

Rising star will have you feeling like a member of the family

With more than a half a billion streams over his 15-year recording career, Maoli stands very tall in his very specific genre—island reggae blended with country soul. And he’s going to absolutely rock Vegas this week with a performance that promises a wide-ranging setlist.

The native of upcountry Maui in Hawaii just released his ninth studio album in June, and it couldn’t be more appropriately titled for his upcoming show: Last Sip of Summer—also the name of his current tour, which wraps up this month

with dates in Albuquerque, N.M., Tucson, Ariz., Mesa, Ariz., Las Vegas and, finally, Papeete, French Polynesia! It’s a perfect representation of the fan base Maoli appeals to.

Once you hear his music, it’s not hard to understand the appeal. You’ll hear influences ranging from steel guitar greats to country legends like Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson and George Strait, sprinkled with reggae. His covers include Brett Young’s “Mercy” (with 18-million-plus streams on Spotify) and “In Case You Didn’t Know”

(10-million-plus Spotify listens).

His stage presence is simply magnetic—he radiates a joy that’s infectious. By the end of the night, don’t be surprised if you find yourself feeling like a member of his family. Because his music is all about the connection between cultures, and he’s an absolute master at that. –Ken Miller

Oh, How Time Flies

There’s no slowing down as this family-friendly headlining magician approaches 1,000 shows

Time flies when your profession is your passion. For Jen Kramer, it seems like only yesterday she visited Las Vegas for the first time. Now she’s heading toward the 1,000th performance of The Magic of Jen Kramer at Westgate Las Vegas, with her career moving so fast the 10th anniversary of her arrival on the scene passed before she realized it.

“How could I have let a decade go by without throwing a party or something? I don’t know!” she says. “Missed opportunity there … It’s going to be 10 years from now in no time.”

Kramer was preoccupied with being in the moment at her 5 p.m. Westgate Cabaret shows, where her mix of magic and mentalism constantly creates new fans who line up after shows during meet-and-greets to share their enthusiasm about her signature quick-change trick illusion early in the performance and her new climactic trick.

The latter is the latest creation made possible by maintaining a fertile imagination. “That flow state is so real,” she says. “Sometimes when you’re exploring a different realm of magic like with the new finale that we’re doing in the show—it’s more

grand illusion style—your brain starts thinking, ‘How can I apply this idea or that idea?’”

Not that Kramer is going to retire her oeuvre of card tricks, but an evolution into grand illusions would be a natural next step. She’s a veteran of the Strip’s magic scene now. The tricks she brought to Westgate Cabaret are increasingly enhanced by the possibilities she’s able to visualize based on the venue’s dimensions and capabilities.

“We wanted to do something big for the finale, so I’m making a big, sparkly purple motorcycle appear onstage,” she says. “It’s an absolute blast. It’s something very different than the material throughout the rest of the show, and that was part of the appeal of it for me, doing something than felt like a stretch and provided variety.”

It’s also the next step in the magician’s goal of creating human connection through magic. “It’s all about making people feel like they’re 5 years old again, looking through that lens of wonder,” Kramer says. –Las Vegas Magazine Staff

A New Way to Nightlife

Skip the club and find a different kind of fun at this new Stripside hot spot

Cool cocktails, cool views and cool vibes make Bottled Blonde Las Vegas the new exciting hot spot for visitors looking for a good time. Situated right along Las Vegas Boulevard and anchored by the Grand Bazaar Shops, this multilevel venue is a welcoming environment for people looking for that nightlife alternative.

Cool vibes. During the day Bottled Blonde Las Vegas welcomes families to enjoy the food and atmosphere, but after 9 p.m. it turns into a 21-and-over nightlife experience. “Bottled Blonde is a hybrid venue that is built around fun—food, beverage and entertainment,” said Bryan Bass, chief marketing officer. “We like to say from lunch to late night. As the sun goes down and the neon turns on, it gets more of a high-energy bar environment—something that is more approachable and casual than the typical Vegas nightclub but still all based around a fun experience.” Live music plays on the ground floor and rooftop, and the later it gets, the music switches over to live DJs on both floors playing top 40 and mashups, and some tables and chairs get cleared to create a dance floor. “Sports is a big thing here, too,” Bass said. “There’s all this energy around sports—people cheering, having a good time, having food and drinks.” With more than 40 HDTVs and a 38-

foot LED wall, every single angle and seat make for a great spot to cheer on your team.

Cool views. It’s hard to beat Bottled Blonde Las Vegas’ rooftop when it comes to views of the Strip combined with a large indoor-outdoor environment. “The energy feels really good

on the rooftop—and there’s the great patio with an amazing view,” Bass said. Those views not only include up and down the Strip, but a fantastic shot of the fountains show at Bellagio. If you’re looking for that elevated nightlife experience but want to skip the typical nightclub, this is the spot—you’ll still

get to party, dance and drink, all with a beautiful backdrop, seating both inside and outside, and you don’t have to pay a cover. “Fun and approachable nightlife,” Bass said. … “We’re somewhere you can go and have fun and we don’t take ourselves too seriously. But that view, the view you can’t beat.”

Cool cocktails. Two large 360-degree bars (one on the ground floor, one on the rooftop) are where the bartenders are whipping up tasty cocktails, including some straight-up fun

cocktails. The list of cocktail names lets guests know Bottled Blonde is meant for good-time drinking—Sip Happens (vodka and Red Bull), Emotional Damage (bourbon and passion fruit), Lime After Lime (tequila and Mexican lager), There’s Something About Mary (vodka

and Bloody Mary mix) and the list goes on. But over-the-top fun lies in the large-format cocktails, a definite must if you’re with a group of peeps. Go for the Strawberry Pump, made with Tito’s vodka, strawberry syrup, lemon juice and lemonade, served in a vessel shaped like a gas pump where you pour the cocktail through the little gas pump.

The Capri Sin is a throwback to the childhood favorite drink Capri Sun, but this behemoth is an adult version with its blend of Casamigos blanco tequila, Aperol, lemonade, prickly pear syrup and lemon juice served in that classic plastic bag with a straw. “We also offer a great craft beer program,” Bass said.

“With local beers, too, like Able Baker and HUDL Brewing Company, who brewed the exclusive Bottled Blonde Ale just for us. You can get beers in a pint, pitcher or in these large towers for big groups.” (You can also order any of the specialty cocktails in one of the towers, too). –Kiko Miyasato Grand Bazaar Shops.

The Steak House at Circus Circus has been the model of consistency for decades

For more than 40 years, The Steak House at Circus Circus has been the go-to for generations of tourists and locals alike. And that’s because its customers always know what they’re getting: seriously great food, a menu that keeps things more or less the same year in and year out, service that makes you feel special, and an old-school ambience you really can’t find anywhere else on the Strip. This is the sort of restaurant where it’s not uncommon on any given night to see at least an anniversary or birthday celebrated. It’s just that special.

As you’re escorted to your table or leather booth, you’ll immediately be struck by two things: a dry-aging locker with floor-to-ceiling windows that allows you to check out all the cuts you’re about to choose from, and a food preparation area smack-

dab in the middle of the restaurant. Before your meal arrives, be sure to order a cocktail to prepare you for the deliciousness to come. All the classics are here to enjoy, from Old-Fashioneds and Manhattans to dirty martinis, but vodka lovers will want to try the Lemon Drop, made with Absolut Citron, triple sec and lemon juice.

Start your meal with any of the splendid appetizers, from the French onion soup and deeply flavorful grilled garlic shrimp and sautéed mushrooms to oysters on the half shell or the massive Seafood Sensation, a tower of oysters, crab and shrimp that’s practically a meal by itself! Salads here are all fresh and satisfying. The

Porterhouse steak

702.794.3767

blue cheese wedge is always great, but if you want to bump things up a notch, order the Waldorf wedge, which is served with a balsamic blue cheese vinaigrette. For something really light yet deeply satisfying, opt for the tomato, mozzarella and basil

salad. If you’re a spinach fan, the fresh spinach salad is delightful, smothered in the restaurant’s hot bacon dressing (so yummy!).

Whatever you order from the steak menu, know this: All the beef on it is Midwestern in origin and aged for

21 days at 37 degrees Fahrenheit to achieve maximum flavor quality and texture. From the New York strip and porterhouse to the filet mignon and ribeye on the bone, every bite here will put you in the best of moods.

And if red meat isn’t quite what you’re craving, quality alternatives include lamb chops, salmon filet, twin broiled lobster tails, Alaskan king crab legs, sweet chili-glazed salmon, chicken breast and grilled garlic shrimp. No matter what you choose, make sure to accompany them with the wonderful sides like asparagus, garlic mashed potatoes, sautéed mushrooms or a humongous baked potato with all the fixings.

Dessert options are all top-notch versions of the classics. We’re particularly partial to the tiramisu, here served on a bed of chocolate drizzle, and the crème brûlée, topped with fresh berries and cream. But you also cannot go wrong with favorites like cheesecake and chocolate cake.

Popovich Comedy Pet Theater is a delight for all ages

A goose. A miniature horse. A bunch of cats who think rules are for dogs.

Welcome to Popovich Comedy

Pet Theater, the most joyfully chaotic show on the Las Vegas Strip. It’s a riot of fur, feathers and laughter, led by a genial ringmaster who clearly never heard the old showbiz adage: “Never work with children or animals—they’ll steal the spotlight.”

Gregory Popovich, a fifth-generation circus performer from Kyiv, Ukraine, has spent most of his life juggling, clowning and touring with some of the biggest names in the business, including the Great Moscow Circus and Ringling Bros. An appearance on America’s Got Talent got him to the semifinals. These days, he shares the stage with a more unconventional cast: a rotating squad of cats, dogs, birds, mice and more. All of them rescues, none of them particularly interested in stage directions … and that’s when hilarity ensues.

During the show, Popovich—an affable, slightly rumpled man with the energy of a favorite uncle who always seems to be fetching a quarter behind someone’s ear or doing a backflip at the backyard barbecue— juggles bowling pins and balances on ladders while dogs scamper out of windows, cats leap through hoops and birds perform suspiciously intelligent tricks. There are sight gags, slapstick bits, balancing tricks and physical comedy routines that feel borrowed

from another era—in the best way possible. Popovich drifts through it all with a kind of gentle mischief, playing the exasperated straight man to his unruly animal companions.

And the audience can’t get enough of it. During a recent afternoon performance, the theater was filled with families and tourists of all ages. There was lots of laughter, punctuated by delighted squeals from the littles in the front row.

What truly elevates the show beyond novelty is its emotional core. These aren’t just animals trained to do tricks; they appear, unbelievably, to be enjoying themselves. For all his big-top silliness and undeniable physical-comedy skills, Popovich’s real talent lies in his ability to connect with the animals on a deep level. His love for them is palpable, from the way he gently shuttles puppies off the stage to the way he gives a cat or a bird a peck after a trick well done. His name may be on the marquee, but Popovich happily gives his furry friends their time in the spotlight. This circus is also a family business. His daughter, Anastasia, performs alongside him, and at home, the family cares for more animals, all rescues from shelters. Popovich Comedy Pet Theater has called Planet Hollywood home for 15 seasons and has been seen in more than 20 countries.

In a city whose entertainment is built on illusion and a significant amount of pyrotechnics, Popovich Comedy Pet Theater is a breath of fresh air. It doesn’t rely on spectacle so much as affection, and at the heart of it is one man’s love for all creatures great and small.

It just might be the sweetest hour you’ll spend on the Las Vegas Strip.

Dishes here are meant to be shared family-style, so start with the guacamole, served with plantain chips, and the shishito peppers, glazed with an addictive sweet soy and miso. Crispy wonton tacos filled with

tuna or A5 wagyu are always popular, and the taqueria portion of the menu serves up classic tacos filled with fish, meat and even veggie. Not to be missed at Toca Madera are specially priced Toca Tuesday tacos from 9 p.m. to close and brunch Friday through Sunday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. The brunch menu has so many delectable options, how does one choose? We suggest ordering the tres leches French toast, vanilla cast iron pancake, breakfast enchiladas, tempeh bacon and the ceviche blanco from the raw bar. Finish off any meal with the visually stunning Dama de los Muertos, a chocolate-covered skull filled with peanut butter mousse set on raspberry coulis, or the strawberry tres leches, which puts a nice spin on the classic Mexican cake. The fire dancers and DJ put the Toca Madera experience into overdrive, especially on the weekends, where dinner becomes a fun, nightlife vibe. 725.255.9030

is packed with great options for guests

Once you check into Circa Resort & Casino, you’ll have everything you’ll need and want for that perfect vacation. Journey with me on my own 24-hour stay (a staycation in my case) and read about some of the highlights and fun to be had at this amazing property located in downtown Las Vegas.

You can ask for an early check-in, but it’s not always guaranteed. We got lucky! We stayed in a that is anything but “standard.” Every room at Circa has a kingsized bed—we jumped onto the Serta Prestige mattress and sunk in … ahhh! A cool feature: A lot of the rooms have a Murphy bed! Owner Derek Stevens made sure all rooms offer a king-sized bed so everyone could feel royal! Technology reigns throughout the room. We adjusted the air and played music through our tablet and asked Alexa questions about the resort. The bathroom has dual vanity sinks (I set up my beauty tools right in front of the makeup mirror with special lighting) and the shower has a sizable built-in bench and luxurious bathing products.

You must see the property’s sports book, even if you don’t place bets. encompasses three stories with stadium-style seating, VIP booths and on-point service. We checked into one of the booths and ordered lunch. Menus from nearby Victory Burger & Wings Co. and Project BBQ are available. We noshed on the Hangover Burger piled with french fries, cheddar cheese, thick-cut bacon, caramelized onions, crispy onion straws, creamy blanco cheese, boom boom sauce and a fried egg; an order of boneless wings in sweet chili sauce; smoked Gouda mac and cheese bites; and fire-roasted elote in a cup. Indulging was joined by eye candy—nearly a dozen huge screens, nearly floor to ceiling, displaying all manner of sports.

Before we went back to our room to get ready for dinner, we made a quick pop into the lobby lounge, , to try some of the most inventive cocktails available downtown. (Plus, the historical Vegas Vickie’s neon sign is a must selfie moment). Don’t miss the Grandissimo Espresso Martini made with Madagascar vanilla bean-infused tequila!

Circa | Sports photo by Ryan Gobuty Circa suite photo by Black Raven Films

We headed down the final set of escalators to the bottom floor of Circa, where you’ll find the doors to amazing steakhouse

. This place is sexy and cool and has amazing old-school music (before the DJ takes over). And the food? Primo! Don’t miss the vegan menu. (Yes, at a steakhouse!) As a vegetarian, I sliced into a vegan Salisbury steak and a hearts of palm ceviche. My dining companion’s knife melted into the 8-ounce wet-aged filet mignon from Omaha Farms and filled in the rest of his meal with a side of decadent whipped Belgian potatoes and grilled asparagus with a lemon vinaigrette. Can we take a minute to talk about the dessert—each one is more than generous in its serving size. We delved into the banana cream pie and the sticky toffee butter cake … We should’ve started with dessert because buttons were popping; we couldn’t manage to put our forks down even though we were full—the recipes were that good!

We finished up the evening with some after-dinner cocktails and some of the best views of the city, checking in at the hostess podium and then heading into the elevator and up 60 floors to the always-a-good-time . A trip to Circa wouldn’t be complete without making it up to this rooftop hot spot. Bartenders here are often voted the best in the city (many of them are recipients of cocktail competition awards), so ask them to whip you up something special off the menu. We grabbed our cocktails and headed outdoors to the oversized lounge chairs surrounding a fire pit and gazed at the city lights and stars. Another great thing about Legacy Club? There’s a DJ that plays top 40 music. Party in plain sight or sneak into a corner booth or one of the outdoor firepits off to the side and make it a romantic date night.

We didn’t even have to get dressed or leave the room to enjoy some breakfast. We simply scanned a QR code that took us to the menu, Circa’s 24-hour diner-like restaurant. We ordered up Nate & Sally’s housemade vanilla-cinnamon French toast with house-made whipped cream, fresh berries and pure maple syrup, The Chief’s Smoked Salmon Platter with generous salmon portions, toasted bagel, cream cheese, capers, slices of tomato, cucumber and red onion, and the Saginaw’s Breakfast Sandwich, two eggs over medium, bacon, white cheddar cheese and Sam’s Sriracha mayo on a sesame brioche bun. The breakfast menu offers so much more, and having Saginaw’s delivered to your room for breakfast blows the traditional room service meal options out of the water with its delicious options.

We checked out of our room and decided to spend our last hours at . We booked a daybed right alongside one of the six pools available and settled in for some sun and fun. A DJ keeps the music in party-vibes mode, and the 40-foot tall, high-def screen played that day’s basketball games. The multilevel pool complex offers big cabanas, open lounge chair seating, a (huge!) cocktail and food menu and outdoor table games. Stadium Swim is a destination downtown, not just a hotel pool—you have to come to the hotel to check it out. You just pay a reasonable cover to get in and enjoy the facilities, even if you’re not a hotel guest.

There’s a behind the “Marilyn Monroe eyes” inside the high-limit area. You’ll need a reservation. (The concierge has details.) Don’t miss the at Barry’s Downtown Prime. A server brings the cart tableside to mix you up your choice of a Manhattan or Old-Fashioned. You’ll want to take out your phone to record this one. If you snag a inside Circa | Sports, you’ll have fun checking out the table. It’s covered in old Las Vegas advertisements and newspaper articles about sports betting. We cracked up as we read an ad for the Sundance Casino that offered a breakfast buffet for 69 cents and a prime rib dinner for $3.95.

If you book a Circa suite on the 52nd floor, one of the coolest features is the , a specially created tome that shows renderings and tells stories of how the hotel was built. In case you didn’t know, Circa offers . is a behemoth drinking destination, spanning 165 feet with more than 50 seats, flair bartenders, 46 double-stacked TVs and more than 100 beers on tap. It’s Nevada’s longest indoor bar. It’s also where you might be lucky enough to spot owner Derek Stevens enjoying his drink of choice: Captain Morgan and Diet Coke.

Deep dive into Tutankhamun’s short life at Discovering King Tut’s Tomb—The Experience

What if someone handed you the keys to the kingdom at age 9? What would life look like, be like and end like? More than 100 years ago, in the Valley of the Kings along the Nile River in Egypt, archaeologist

he ascended the throne at just 9 years old, King Tut’s life was both fabulous and devastating … and short; he died at 19 years old. Delve into the king’s life and the world around him when you visit Imagine Exhibition’s immer-

the many treasures Carter unearthed, including the historic and phenomenal discovery of King Tut’s tomb. The exhibit is both educational and awe-mazing, and here’s just a small sampling of what you’ll get to discover yourself when you take the journey.

Every piece you view is a reproduction of actual artifacts discovered. Each piece is crafted by an Egyptian artisan to match the exact tradition of those found in the burial chamber.

It turns out King Tut was consumed with ailments during his short life. Examination of the exhumed body shows that he was most likely crippled from inbreeding. He suffered from a clubbed foot, incomplete cleft palate that led to a speech impediment, a curved spine caused by kyphoscoliosis and had severe immune issues like malaria that was found in his bones. The theory has been put forth that Tut might have died from a possible

“Look for the dagger made from meteoric iron—yes, metal from a meteorite. That kind of craftsmanship and knowledge of materials was incredibly advanced for its time. And don’t miss the simple, personal artifacts like (King Tut’s) childhood walking sticks—they remind you he was just a teenager when he died.

“The actual tomb of King Tut was considered modest in size, especially for a pharaoh. It’s believed his sudden death at a young age forced the burial to be rushed. Also, an insider tip—don’t skip the audio guide or guided tour if it’s available. There’s so much symbolism hidden in the artifacts and tomb layout that you might miss without that extra layer of context. And definitely take your time in the final gallery—it ties everything together beautifully.”

infection from a broken leg cause by a chariot accident.

Get schooled in the significance of gold, seen as a symbol of nobility and immortality. Learn how the mummification process works and why it was important to maintain the body for the afterlife so the soul could journey through the underworld.

Carter and his crew unearthed four different rooms—the lower-level annex, treasury room, burial chamber and the room that contained Tut’s nested coffins. Inside the treasury room, a huge amount of gold was found, including a canopic shrine that held the king’s organs.

You can view a stunning replica of the boy king’s chariot and other kingly possessions.

King Tut’s sarcophagus included three nested coffins made from gold, colored glass and semi-precious stones. In the final coffin, made entirely out of solid gold, the mummy of Tut revealed his body wrapped in linen and resin and donning the famous death mask. The death mask weighed 22 pounds and depicted Tut wearing the traditional striped Nemes headdress worn by pharaohs.
