Your Party Planners

A huge, integral part of Las Vegas entertainment these days is the DJ. This singular talent can be found practically everywhere on the Las Vegas Strip, and the proliferation of DJs over the decades is a big reason parties are as popular as they are in Sin City.

One of the biggest pool parties this summer comes courtesy of Kaskade, easily one of the industry’s top talents, at Ayu Dayclub at Resorts World Las Vegas. And this week’s issue of Las Vegas Magazine dives (no pun intended) into the mind of this superstar. Check out our exclusive interview and photo shoot (“A Kool Summer,” p. 32), and then get your tickets!

Speaking of pool parties, wait until you get a look at the new-and-improved GO Pool at Flamingo, a sprawling complex that offers more fun and entertainment options than you could ever imagine (“The New Day Hang,” p. 24).

If you’re looking for great live music this week, it doesn’t get better than Lenny Kravitz, a man of so many talents, who returns for a multidate stint at Park MGM (“Music, Movies & Mojo,” p. 38).

How about some comedy? One of the funniest people on the planet, Kathleen Madigan, stops by The Venetian for one day only as part of her Day Drinking Tour (“No Hyphens, Just Jokes,” p. 40).

Deep-Sea Delights

Grab your chopsticks and get ready to dig into this eatery’s fantastic food

If there’s room in the budget to splurge on one fancy meal, make it a delectable dinner at Sushi Roku. Not only will diners find incredible, high-quality seafood delights and a creative cocktail program, they’ll also enjoy a killer Strip view.

Start by sipping a refreshing Shoman Glory, made with Lalo blanco tequila, cucumber, kiwi and yuzu, for a citrusy, cooling beverage that could quench any heat-induced thirst that may have developed on the walk into the property. If sweet yet spirit-forward is your thing, try the Ueshima Old-Fashioned with Knob Creek espresso-washed rye, orange demerara syrup and chocolate bitters. Before diving into the main event, treat the table to an order (or two) of the Brussels sprout chips. These delicate little Brussels sprout leaves are individually coated in tempura batter and fried to crispy perfection before being tossed in truffle oil and salt, making for an addicting app. To go with your newest fried favorite, consider ordering the yellowtail diced chilis, a sashimi dish with olive oil, ginger, ponzu and, you guessed it, diced Fresno chilis. While seemingly simple, each bite offers a complex balance of flavors, with the olive oil adding a layer of richness for the zingy ginger and the hot peppers to cut through.

Keep the evening rolling with some sliced rolls. For an exciting combination of ingredients, order the Tokubetsu, a crab and cucumber roll topped with toro, sea bream, black truffle pesto and yuzu vinaigrette. The fatty toro brings a succulent richness to this roll, while the earthy truffle pesto and the punchy yuzu dressing work in tandem to create a sort of equilibrium between sour, sweet and umami. Have something familiar (with a kick) with the Katana, a spicy tuna and shrimp tempura roll featuring tuna, yellowtail and spicy mayo on top.

We don’t blame anyone who has a hard time choosing off this intriguing menu, it all looks so good. For those who’d like the chef’s best, consider ordering a Chef’s Choice Sushi Plate, featuring the freshest seven pieces of nigiri the day has to offer (some pictured) and a custom handroll. –Em Jurbala

Miss Independent returns to the Vegas stage

We’ve sure missed Kelly Clarkson since she’s been gone from the Las Vegas stage. Her exclusive 2023’24 residency at Planet Hollywood, Chemistry … An Intimate Night with Kelly Clarkson, was a soldout success, drawing fans in for a raw, emotional and unforgettable performance. Now the Grammy Award-winning superstar is back with a brand-new show, Kelly Clarkson: Studio Sessions—The Las Vegas Residency

Studio Sessions brings a more personal side of Clarkson to the stage—part live concert, part behindthe-scenes look at her music. The setlist is sure to span her full career, and will most likely include massive hits like “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You),” “Since U Been Gone” and “Breakaway,” as well as, perhaps, recent case-sensitive tracks like “i hate love,” “mine” and “me.” Fans can also most likely expect to hear her latest single, “Where Have You Been,” a soulful ballad that debuted in May and quickly found a place in hearts and playlists alike.

“I’m so excited to be back in Vegas,” said Clarkson in a news release. And it’s easy to understand why. Las

Vegas gives her the perfect stage to do what she does best: connect with an audience. Performing at The Colosseum, a space known for its iconic residencies, she brings her big vocals and relatable honesty into a venue that feels surprisingly close-knit for a 4,000-seat theater.

Since winning the first season of American Idol at just 20 years old, Clarkson has become one of music’s most iconic and recognizable voices. With more than 25 million albums and 40 million singles sold, she’s topped nearly every Billboard chart, from pop, dance and country to adult contemporary. Along the way, she’s picked up three Grammys, four American Music Awards, a slew of MTV awards and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

For Clarkson, this residency isn’t just about the hits; it’s about sharing the journey behind them—the heartbreak, the growth, the joy. Studio Sessions is a chance to hear the songs you love, told by the voice that lived them, in a way you’ve never quite heard them before. –Genevie Durano

Everything You Want And More

This downtown aquatic sports-viewing haven has it all

Stadium Swim at Circa Resort & Casino is truly unlike any other destination. So what exactly is it? It’s a:

• Pool. And not just one! Enjoy six different pools, perfect for cooling down while you sip cocktails and watch the game. And don’t miss the swim-up bar.

• Sports-viewing haven. We bet you haven’t watched your favorite team on a massive, 40-foot-tall, high-definition screen with 14 million pixels! Stadium Swim is also a premier place to catch all UFC PPV fights.

• Bar and restaurant. You never have to leave the venue if you’re hungry or thirsty. Stadium Swim offers a nice selection of signature cocktails like the Kentucky Tea, Orange Dreamsicle, Watermelon Wings, Jalisco Heat Wave, Ace Paloma, Bloody Maria and Barbados Blitz. You can also munch on a bevy of dishes including lobster corn dogs, nacho platter, Impossible sliders, chopped Cobb salad, breakfast burrito, charcuterie boards, fruit platters, shrimp cocktail, beef sliders and much more.

“(Stadium Swim) is definitely different,” said director EJ Stagner. “I think it provides not only downtown but Las Vegas in general a great place for locals and tourists. It really gives you the best of both worlds—if you just want to come for the pool party and experience that or for sports fans this is really the only place in Vegas, in the country, to really experience watching your team.” –Kiko Miyasato

Passing It On

This Strip magician doesn’t mind sharing his tricks

Some magicians closely guard their secrets. Others, when they are not performing, freely dispense advice to aspiring illusionists and seekers of sleight-of-hand knowledge. Mac King falls squarely in the latter, if only for the long-running comic strip Magic-in-a-Minute he created with his illustrator cousin Bill.

The amount of times young people have asked King how to get started in the craft, after seeing one of his afternoon performances of The Mac King Comedy Magic Show at Excalibur, is inestimable (and he can’t answer them comprehensively in 30 seconds of meet-and-greet). King himself was literally grandfathered in, with both of his grandfathers having magical skills.

“They knew some tricks, and my mom’s dad, in particular, had some magic books at his house,” says King in an interview with Las Vegas Magazine. Both grandfathers were in sales and traveled for work. “They used magic as icebreakers to meet people or make themselves look interesting.”

If King had to identify one trick as ground zero for his interest, it would be his dad’s dad breaking a match, then “reconstructing” it beneath a

handkerchief. It was also the first trick King learned step-by-step, which fully ignited his passion.

King’s own Mac King’s Magic in a Minute Great Big Ol’ Book-O-Magic is due for a revision, but it can be found used on Amazon as well. King cites benefits of learning magic such as sharpened focus and problem-solving skills. Practice improves muscle memory, while performing builds confidence in public speaking. Ultimately, it led King to a career and meeting his future wife. He performed a trick involving pulling a card from his pants that he still performs today, and she was smitten, long before he became the plaid-clad member of Las Vegas’ resident magicians. “I’ve got decks of cards all over my house,” he says. “I’m shuffling or doing moves. I’m not even thinking about it.”

While King doesn’t mind his tricks winding up in the public domain, his skills of making goldfish and Fig Newtons appear remain unsurpassed. His folksy presence and family-friendly magic blend together in a persona that, unlike his tricks, can’t be copied. –Las Vegas Magazine Staff

Walk Like a Fan

Super-convenient hot spot is a perfect pregaming destination

With football coming back soon, crowds are expected to be flocking to Allegiant Stadium to tailgate. But as fun as that is, it can be a bit time-consuming (not to mention expensive). But luckily there’s an option for the budget-conscious sports fan: WSKY Stadium, a short walk from Allegiant that might just become your new party headquarters.

Park in one of the 638 spots available (free on nonevent days) and get things started with cocktails like the Spiced Apple, made with Bacardi, agave, lime juice

and apple juice, served in a glass with a cinnamon raw sugar-lined rim, and the Spicy Pina-Rita, made with Ghost tequila, pineapple and lime juice and agave.

Once you’ve stimulated those taste buds, get ready for some seriously delicious bites. Fan of Italian meats? The Italian Grinder is one of the best of its type in the city with salami, carving board ham and spicy capicola on French bread, covered with smoked provolone, shredded lettuce, red onion, banana peppers, garlic and red wine aioli.

Entrées run the gamut from steak frites and fish and chips, made with beer-battered white fish and served with onion hush puppies, French fries and coleslaw, to WSKY salmon, served with Dijon honey glaze, Frisco pilaf and seasonal veggies.

For dessert, the churro donuts are so much fun, served with key lime or WSKY caramel sauce. –Ken Miller

You’ll Feel Like Family

Longstanding restaurant specializes in large groups

You become part of one big family— and a part of Vegas history—when you dine at Benihana . The restaurant at Westgate Las Vegas, which recently celebrated its 50th anniversary, encourages communal dining around hibachi tables that accommodate groups of all sizes. And from the second you sit down to the time you depart, the experience is unlike any other, from the food and the way it’s prepared to the friends you make. The centerpiece of the 38,000-square-foot Benihana Village

(which, when you include Rikki Tiki Sushi and Silk Road Asian Bistro, make this one the largest in the world) is practically an entertainment venue, with skilled chefs whipping up your meal in front of you, serving up New York strip steak and mushrooms to the Benihana Trio of filet mignon, chicken breast and colossal shrimp. The two weeks of intensive training shows in every chef here; they’re quick with jokes as they deftly grill and move items around, never missing a beat.

Over its half-century of existence, this Benihana has been enjoyed by some of the biggest celebrities in history, from Michael Jackson and Lady Gaga to Mike Tyson and Kobe Bryant. It’s also undergone many phases, from a 1992 remodel to the addition of a sushi bar in 2002. But the basic philosophy of the restaurant has never changed: Make every guest feel like family. –Ken Miller

The New Day Hang

Revamped pool offers fun and relaxed luxury

Swim-up bar. DJs. Swaying palm trees. Waterfall with grotto. Luxurious cabanas. Multiple pools. Um, where do I sign up!? The newly renovated GO Pool at Flamingo received a gorgeous upgrade with a ton of great amenities, but kept the fun vibe that has long been a draw for guests looking for that cool pool party hot spot.

“The all-new GO Pool feels like a tropical oasis escape in the heart of Las Vegas Boulevard,” says Ryan Kelly, Flamingo’s director of beverage. “It delivers a vibrant, high-energy atmosphere and welcomes all (21+) guests looking for a good time. The design draws from the Flamingo’s iconic mid-century modern and retro-deco roots, blending soft, beachy tones and playful pastels. This creates a fresh, contemporary vibe that still honors the history of the Flamingo.”

Stretched across nearly two acres, GO Pool offers five distinct pools, three VIP escapes where a more mellow, upscale vibe with luxurious cabanas await, a grotto pool hidden by a 50-footwide waterfall, and the main pool with swim-up bar and perfect views of the DJ booth that sits high above the grotto area. With cabanas, lounge chairs and daybeds aplenty, one of the coolest things about GO Pool (literally and figuratively) is its many wet decks, where guests can lounge on daybeds and sofas

while dipping their feet into the sparkling waters. Some VIP cabanas also offer their own dipping pools, perfect for privacy and that upscale experience. Kelly points out some of his favorite highlights of the new pool experience:

“The swim-up bar is a game-changer— it sits in the shade, has multiple TVs, and falls directly under the DJ booth, so you’re always in the middle of the action. I also love the grotto pool, where you can lounge in a shaded area behind

the waterfall—it’s like your own little hideaway. And for guests looking for something more chill, the circular VIP pool offers an exclusive feel just a few steps from the main pool.”

Added to the experience is a reimagined food and cocktail menu—it’s packed with tons of goodies. Kelly and his team put together an impressive lineup of specialty cocktails and then some, divided into categories like lemony cocktails, hard seltzers, spiked and canned beer options, shots, skinny cocktails, tropical recipes and high-end spirit cocktails. He offered three of his faves, too, like the Skinny Spice, made with Maestro Dobel Diamante tequila, Chacho jalapeño aguardiente, agave nectar, lime juice, club soda and Tajín, “a light and zesty cocktail with a kick, perfect for guests looking for something flavorful and lower in calories,” Kelly says. He also likes The G.P.L. (GO Pool Lemonade) with New Amsterdam raspberry vodka and lemonade, topped with Chambord black raspberry liqueur, “a refreshing, citrus-forward drink,” and the Pear of Hearts, made with Maestro Dobel Diamante tequila, Belle de Brillet pear liqueur, strawberry purée and lime juice, “a smooth, subtly sweet cocktail.”

With all this liquid courage available, mellow it out with scrumptious bites like loaded fries, a street taco trio, Southwest rice bowl, Buffalo chicken salad, nachos platter, vegetable crudité with hummus and various sandwiches.

“GO Pool brings the energy people love—live DJs, great food and drinks

Director of instruction provides swinging good time

“It’s kind of surreal to look back on my path,” says Lindsay Hoskins. “A lot of us PGA professionals started cleaning clubs at a golf course. From morning to evening, every step in Eataly Las Vegas is delicious

One of the most dynamic spaces in Las Vegas has to be Eataly Las Vegas, a glorious representation of an Italian streetscape, complete with food hall, marketplace and several bars and restaurants, perfect for a relaxed morning or evening.

If you are a morning bird (or even an early afternoon bird), check out Caffè Lavazza for a quick, amazingly delicious coffee and a breakfast sandwich, or pastries from La Pasticceria & Venchi

If you can wait until 11 a.m., check out the Bottomless Mimosa and Bellini Weekends at La Pizza & La Pasta every Saturday and Sunday throughout the summer. In addition to your meal, enjoy bottomless mimosas from the Italian producer Canella, whose Granriviera Mimosas and bellinis are available from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. for 90 minutes for $35 per person. The Granriviera Mimosa is delicious, with lovely citrus tones perfect for the midday. It’s a drink that seems to fit in perfectly with Vegas sensibilities, something that Alvise Canella pointed out during a recent introductory party for Eataly Bar. “The weather here in Vegas is too hot, and I’m drinking something fresh, as this shield, with some ice. I think we’re great for Vegas.” And great for Eataly Las Vegas. Canella’s bottled mimosas and bellinis are all crafted with prosecco from the family’s Italian vineyard, using fresh fruit, including oranges from the Sicilian village Ribera, known as “the city of oranges,” and bergamot. “We are prosecco producers, so we guarantee on the prosecco side. And then we find something very special, very particular, in the Italian fruits.”

At La Pizza & La Pasta, brick ovens dominate the décor, with pizzas in a variety of styles sending their fragrance through-

out. Munch on such items as focaccia Palermitana with pecorino Reggiano and anchovies; and mortadella with pistachio pesto (open for lunch and dinner).

La Cucina del Mercato, stand-alone counters serve up fresh options like the tagliatelle alla Bolognese at La Pasta with house-made pasta and a pork and beef ragu; meatballs at Le Polpette; slices of Roman-style pizza at La Pizzeria; and meats and cheeses at La Salumeria

La Carne e Il Pesce, find skewered

chicken, beef (Spiedini di manzo) and shrimp, plus large plates of grilled branzino and ribeye. No matter which item you order, scope out a seat while it is cooking.

There are several bars inside Eataly, like the new Eataly Bar, offering a ton of seats, a tree in the center and plenty of cocktails and food. Order one of those Granriviera Mimosas, wine, a beer or an espresso martini to go along with a variety of pizzas like the margherita al padellino.

For a sophisticated night, head to Toscana Ristorante & Bar, where channeling Tuscany is the goal, and where most entrées on the menu have a sommelier-recommended pairing, like the gnocchi alla Sorrentina, Mutti tomatoes, house-made mozzarella and basil paired with Terlaner cuvée. The Fiorentina, billed as the classic Tuscan cut, is a 42-ounce porterhouse grilled over a wood fire, recommended to be consumed with a Mocenni 91 cabernet sauvignon. To cap off the night, enjoy the semifreddo al cocco, a creamy frozen coconut morsel with passion fruit curd and a coconut meringue.

Kaskade talks life, music and his residency at Ayu Dayclub and Zouk Nightclub

Photo by Christopher DeVargas Grooming by Sheena Zargari Clothing provided by ACNE STUDIOS

Kaskade is waiting for a phone call from Sade to collab on a song. He was a different flavor of weird growing up. He’s currently working on a full-length album and world domination. Plan B was being a Kinko’s manager. And he wants you to buckle up, ’cause he’s about to take you on a ride when he takes the stage at Ayu Dayclub at Resorts World Las Vegas. A world-renowned EDM DJ and producer, Kaskade lets readers into his life, his music and his thoughts on both as he answers some of our questions and has some fun in front of our camera when he gets into the pool at Ayu Dayclub where, this season, he performs his special blend of mixing familiar songs with melodic, hard-hitting beats. Don’t pass up your chance to see the man in action, be it by the pool during the day or at night at Zouk Nightclub. Until then, get to know more about the man behind the decks.

TELL THE STORY OF HOW YOU FIRST HEARD ELECTRONIC DANCE MUSIC. WHY DID THE SOUND STICK WITH YOU?

I was a weird kid growing up around other weird kids, but a whole different flavor of weird. I had friends, but was drawn to video games, the choir, breakdancing and New Order. I wasn’t a partier, but I wanted to be at the party. I made my way to Medusa’s in Chicago, which was an all-ages club. That was the flash point. I went there and danced; I listened to what was being played and found people whose expressions on their faces looked like mine when those late-’80s 303 acid lines kicked in. I knew those were my people.

HOW DID YOU GET YOUR FIRST DJ EQUIPMENT AND DECIDE TO DJ?

WAS IT A HOBBY OR PASSION, OR DID YOU KNOW YOU WANTED TO MAKE A CAREER OF IT?

I had no business DJing when I began. It was more function than form in the beginning. I was in college and was mentally pulling music apart as I listened to it. Certain cadences and chords reminded me of other songs, and I would think, “This song would be cool to layer over that song.” I cut my teeth on playing before I even touched the decks. Once there was an opening, a party that was missing a DJ, I took my passion out of practice and put it into performance. There was so much that went into it back then. Figuring out the BPM of a song. Matching that to the next, which one should slow down, and can I squeeze the spindle just enough so the crowd can’t hear it slow down? Many train wrecks later, it got better

and better. Apologies to the crowds that I learned in front of, but that was the only way to do it, and I appreciate your aural sacrifices.

ARE YOU WORKING ON ANY NEW MUSIC?

I am currently working on a fulllength album release, titled undux Outside of my Christmas albums and Redux EPs, I haven’t released a solo studio album since Automatic in 2015. I’m really excited for people to listen again from top to bottom to hear the entire story. Singles are great, and I’ve enjoyed releasing only one-offs for the last decade, but this is my true love language. Just sit with me for 12 or 13 or 14 songs and let’s dig in.

WHAT’S ON TAP FOR 2026?

World domination, no doubt. There

are a lot of things I can’t talk about yet, but I think 2026 is going to be another year of challenges accepted.

ANY COLLABS COMING UP YOU’RE EXCITED ABOUT?

I’m still waiting for Sade to call me.

WHERE DO YOU DRAW INSPIRATION FROM WHEN CREATING SONGS?

Everywhere I visit. I can be in line waiting for my favorite salad and hear a few people talking about a date the night before, or experiences they’ve had that relate to experiences I’ve had. It gets cataloged in my memory, then when I’m running chords and melodies in my studio those things will visit like ghosts. Not everything I write is self-referential. Most of it is not. If I’ve been around you, even strangers—I just might have written a song about or for you. (This does not apply to any time I’ve been to the DMV. I’ve never been inspired there.)

WHO ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE ARTISTS? WHAT SONGS ARE ON REPEAT ON YOUR PLAYLISTS?

I continue to visit my favorites from the New Wave days—New Order, The Smiths, The Cure, Depeche Mode. What they put together had undeniable impact on what everyone creates today in this genre. I’d suggest everyone just deep dive in those libraries. For newer artists that I’m enjoying, I’ve recently found Chiiild, Jace Cameron, Kenya Grace and ROSSY.

YOU PLAYED THE LARGEST CROWD AT COACHELLA IN 2015; YOU JUST PLAYED EDC—WHAT IS IT ABOUT FESTIVALS THAT YOU LOVE?

There’s the obvious part where I get to show up, chill in my trailer, then stand in front of hundreds of thousands of my best friends. But it goes deeper than that. Festivals have morphed the attention paid to electronic music. Some of that is not positive attention, but the side I love is that a lot of people who need that type of acceptance and community get to find out about it and take part in it.

OUT OF ALL YOUR SONGS, WHICH ARE YOUR FAVORITES AND WHY?

Things to Know About Kaskade

He speaks fluent Japanese

He loves to organize his garage

He’s never DJ’d a bar or bat mitzvah, but has DJ’d a wedding

He will not DJ your wedding, but might DJ your bar or bat mitzvah

It depends on the minute of the day that you ask me. I really cannot answer that in an honest way. There have been a few times where I haven’t heard one of my tracks for years and then it pops into my head and that will be my favorite for the next four hours. But then a butterfly flaps its wings and that song falls out of rotation.

Every time any social media platform changes its interface, he cries

on surfing. It has become my main off-work activity. It never gets boring and continues to challenge me no matter how I advance. There is something so humbling about being in the ocean and creating a relationship with it where we both participate.

IF YOU WEREN’T A DJ/ PRODUCER/PERFORMER, YOU’D BE DOING WHAT?

There was never a plan B. It was this or possibly being a Kinko’s manager.

WHAT ARE IMPORTANT LIFE LESSONS YOU’VE LEARNED BEING A FAMOUS MUSICIAN?

BESIDES WORK, WHAT OCCUPIES YOUR LIFE; WHAT DO YOU LOVE TO DO? HOBBIES, INTERESTS?

During the pandemic I really focused

I don’t know if I’ve learned this or it’s just been reinforced, but I’ve really learned to respect the strength and fragility of the human body. I’ve been sober my entire life, and while I would never push it on anyone, when I see my friends around me celebrating their sobriety, it makes me so happy for them that they’re paying attention to what their body is telling them. I’m convinced that my longevity in this industry is reliant on me showing up for my audience with a

fresh mind. There’s a lot of people who can pull it off and even thrive in any chosen lifestyle, but for me I’m grateful that younger me made that choice early on and older me has benefited from that path.

WHAT CAN FANS EXPECT FROM YOUR PERFORMANCES AT AYU DAYCLUB AND ZOUK NIGHTCLUB?

When I play in Las Vegas, it’s a different conversation with the crowd each time. Typically, if you’re playing in front of a large crowd, they all have geography in common. Everyone lives within a 20-mile radius of the place you’re playing, the collective usually has a common appreciation of a vibe. Las Vegas is so mixed up because the crowd is showing up from all over the world. We have Ibiza, Idaho, Iceland and Iowa. Everyone is pulling from a different context, so every week is different. I try to introduce new music, but I like to pull them in by playing a few universal favorites. When you hear the guitar from Red Hot Chili Peppers’ “Under the Bridge,” it’s me saying, “Hello, may I have your attention please.’ We all know this song. Now trust me to take you on a ride. Buckle up.”

Man of many talents

Lenny

Kravitz brings

his special magic to Las Vegas

If you looked up the word “cool” in the dictionary, don’t be surprised to find a photo of Lenny Kravitz staring back at you—oversized sunglasses, skintight leather pants, distressed boots. And seriously, how many people can pull off a mesh top like him? He’s a cultural icon who is simply inimitable, both in sound and style.

And now he’s back in town. After selling out five shows at Dolby Live at Park MGM last October, Kravitz is bringing his signature blend of rock star swagger and soul revival

consecutive Grammy wins for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance from 1999 to 2002—a record that still stands—and 40 million albums sold, his staying power is undeniable.

Take “Road to Freedom,” his contribution to the Netflix film Rustin, for example. The song, which received a Golden Globe nomination and was shortlisted for an Oscar, doesn’t sound like Kravitz adapting to 2024; it sounds like the culture catching up to what he’s been doing all along. Its blend of gospel, soul and rock reflects both Kravitz’s personal musical influences and the historical weight of the Civil Rights story at the film’s heart.

Onstage, Kravitz’s prowess is on full display. A multi-instrumentalist since childhood, he glides between guitar, bass, drums and keyboards like he’s changing leather jackets. Whether ripping through the driv-

energy back. His Blue Electric Light residency—named after his 2024 album—offers fans another chance to bask in the Kravitz vibe.

Three decades into his career, Kravitz’s longevity stems from his unwavering consistency and commitment to his artistic vision. That distinctive blend of rock, funk and soul? He owns it, making it look effortless in the process. With four

ing urgency of “Are You Gonna Go My Way” or dialing it back for the slow-burn soul of “It Ain’t Over ‘til It’s Over,” he knows exactly how to move a crowd without ever looking like he’s trying. His songs grab you immediately but reveal new layers with each listen. Tracks like “Fly Away” and “American Woman” still sound fresh decades on. And the Dolby Live theater provides the per-

fect intimate setting for this kind of magnetic energy: At just 5,200 seats, audiences will catch every guitar squat, every improvised riff and every knowing glance to the band.

Beyond music, Kravitz has built an impressive creative empire. His design firm has tackled high-profile projects for luxury brands like Rolex and Dom Pérignon. He’s launched his own spirits label, written both a memoir and a photography book, and earned the CFDA’s Fashion Icon Award. His memorable turn as Cinna in the Hunger Games movies proved his stage magnetism translates just as well to the big screen.

All this to say, everything Kravitz touches has the same artistic throughline, guided by his impeccable taste and talent. When he steps onstage, you’re experiencing a complete artistic statement from someone who’s helped define cool

across generations and genres.

This August, he’s not just performing in Vegas—he’s bringing the temperature down and turning the heat up, all at the same time.

Kathleen Madigan does just one thing—make people laugh

In an era where entertainers are expected to be multihyphenate content machines, Kathleen Madigan has built her career on something increasingly rare: being exceptionally good at standup comedy. Over more than three decades, she’s refined her craft in front of live audiences, and this week, she brings her Day Drinking Tour to the Strip.

Coming from a long line of Midwestern union workers, Madigan approaches her craft the way her family approached their jobs: show up, do the work, do it well. “I just wanted to tell jokes,” she said in an exclusive interview with Las Vegas Magazine, and that singular focus keeps her constantly moving.

Unlike most people who’d find the road exhausting, Madigan thrives on the variety. She gets bored staying in one place too long, driven by curiosity to “check out what’s going on” wherever she lands next. After decades of touring, she’s developed a connoisseur’s appreciation for American cities and their quirks.

Ask about her favorites and she lights

up talking about New Orleans, Charleston, South Carolina, and Savannah, Georgia. “I must have had a past life as a swamp person,” she said, explaining her love for New Orleans’ unique blend of Catholic guilt, vampires, saints and incredible food. Meanwhile, she sometimes grows weary of the homogenization plaguing many cities. “Every city’s got it—here’s your strip mall, here’s TJ Maxx, here’s Applebee’s.”

One exception? Vegas. “I can leave Vegas alone for six months and come back and something new will already be built,” she said. “You guys move faster than anyone. As far as change goes, zero respect for history, which I do find kind of funny.”

That observational edge carries into her material. Madigan’s most recent special, Hunting Bigfoot, was named 2023 Comedy Special of the Year by The Interrobang, following her chart-topping Netflix release Bothering Jesus, which became the highest-selling album and most played comedy album on streaming services since 2015.

But success in comedy extends beyond generating laughs—it demands a type of business acumen that doesn’t always come naturally to creative minds. Madigan notes the surreal experience of signing documents as “president, CEO” of her own corporation. “This country allowed me to do that,” she said with a laugh.

If circumstances were different, Madigan envisions owning a bar called Madigan’s, combining her love of bartending, social interaction and sports. When her father questioned whether she’d want to be a 50-year-old bartender, she corrected him: “No, I want to be a 50-year-old bar owner.”

But comedy chose her, and her material springs from the endless gold mine of family life and everyday absurdities. Growing up one of seven kids provided what she calls “a lot to pull from,” and she feels sorry for comedians without siblings who missed out on that built-in material factory. Currently, she’s mining the universal experience of dealing with aging parents, particularly the realization that her parents never actually planned for old age. As a friend pointed out to her, “Their plan was us.”

For Vegas visitors catching her August show, Madigan promises the same reliable formula that’s sustained her career: Midwest family stories, observations about everyday life and wisdom that comes from watching the world with sharp eyes and an even sharper wit. Catch her show and you’ll leave feeling like you just spent an evening with the funniest person you know.

Explore the science behind nuclear reactions at Atomic Museum Vegas

During a recent conversation with a friend, this writer learned that even locals forget we have an array of museums in the valley, filled to the brim with all kinds of fascinating information and artifacts. And one of the most fascinating of them, Atomic Museum Vegas, keeps an ever-changing catalog of exhibits about topics surrounding the Nevada Test Site, a nuclear testing facility just 65 miles north of Vegas. By strolling from display to display, visitors gain an understanding of what global factors necessitated the test site, the way the facility affected Las Vegas locals and the pop culture boom that emerged from the general public’s fascination with the work they were doing out in the middle of the desert. While this expansive coverage certainly gives an in-depth understanding of nuclear testing in the context of building weaponry, museum curators realized that most people have limited knowledge of atoms, reactions and radiation in any other sense. That’s why at the beginning of this year, Atomic Museum Vegas opened its Atomic Odyssey exhibit (pictured opposite page), an interactive experience that’s both a refresher for anyone who’s forgotten what they studied in school and an easily digestible lesson for young ones who haven’t learned about atoms yet.

Enter this part of the exhibit off the main lobby before entering the main museum to learn about elements, nuclear reactions and so much more. Stop at the interactive table in the first room to build a few atoms, increasing in difficulty. Because the exhibit is intended to educate, visitors will find themselves needing information from the various wall displays to complete this task. Once basics are established, head to the next rooms to find more interactive elements.

Step up to arcade-style fusion and fission simulators to participate in some beginner-friendly reaction experiments. These gamelike elements make what would otherwise be an advanced topic very accessible to most people, including school-aged children. Museum curators have simply done an excellent job of making complex information very understandable and interesting.

After splitting some nuclei, dive into the world of radiation, a word that sometimes intimidates people.

Typically when we think of radiation we think of things like microwaves, X-rays and nuclear waste, but the reality is we’re surrounded by radiation all the time. And what this portion of the walk through explains excellently is that there are many different kinds of radiation that can do many different things. The interactive activity lets visitors simulate how different types of radiation pass through various materials, offering a greater understanding of how the waves affect us in our lives. In fact, you’ll even learn that we spontaneously emit small amounts of radiation.

How neat!

Funky mood lighting and glowing displays make for great ambience in this space, but some of the most visually striking elements come in the form of lenticular art by James Stanford. These glowing, colorful visual works explore the atomic theme through a creative lens, making the Atomic Odyssey an engaging journey. And that’s just the beginning!

Omega Mart’s surreal shopping mecca is just the beginning of an otherworldly adventure

Top photo by Christopher DeVargas, photo at bottom courtesy of Meow Wolf

LAS VEGAS is a world-class shopping destination, but its most out-of-this-world experience is in a grocery store just off the Strip at Meow Wolf’s Omega Mart, where picking up milk becomes an interdimensional adventure that’ll leave you questioning reality.

Within AREA15’s massive entertainment complex, Omega Mart turns the idea of a supermarket on its axis. One glance at the shelves reveals the truth: This isn’t your neighborhood grocery store. Here, you’ll find Emergency Clams, Happles of different levels of freshness, the energy drink Dr. Supervisor (where you can taste the micromanagement) and the famous Tattoo Chicken rotisserie plush. And because this is Las Vegas and you’re going to need comfy shoes after hours of sightseeing, you can also pick up a pair of Cage Free Toes sliders on your way out.

plays with your sense of self and perception. The interactive space features a digital mirror punctuated by twinkles of color and a joyous hand-painted mirror ball.

If this is your first foray into Omega Mart, by all means, touch everything and heed the immersive call. You might find yourself exploring artist Claudia Bueno’s stunning “Pulse” installation or getting lost in the “Dream Jungle,” where plants share their dreams in whispered snippets. Take time to savor the mesmerizing film in the Painted Desert of Seven Monolith Village with its Brian Eno soundtrack.

3215 S. Rancho Drive. meow.wf/lvm

But for now, you’re on the way in—into this bizarre, magical world of secret doors, tunnels and rooms within rooms. That grocery store, it turns out, is the most real part of Omega Mart. Open that freezer door with the ominous “Don’t Forget Yourself” sign and you crawl through a multiverse of sensory delight and overwhelm. Nothing in this 52,000-square-foot wonderland is as it seems, from the physics-defying elevator to a hallway of rooms that invite you to touch walls, push buttons or take neon-tinted Instagram pics. Don’t miss the brand-new “Them” installation from Meow Wolf artist Whitney Lehn Meltz, which

If you’re a returning visitor, dive deeper into an intriguing plotline about the seemingly nefarious Dram Corporation and explore its headquarters, a corporate maze where business malfeasance has torn holes in the space-time continuum. For mystery lovers, this is your chance to become a detective, piecing together the mysterious disappearance of Omega Mart employees through scattered documents and cryptic voicemails. And if that phone rings, go ahead and pick it up. It might offer another clue that’ll help unlock yet another portal. For even more clues, find yourself in the Micro-Breakroom and watch the employee training video on loop. Keep exploring and you might end up in the Micro-Micro-Breakroom, where the beloved Daikon Pals await discovery.

And when you need a break from reality-bending? Head to Datamosh, the notso-hidden speakeasy where Happle Juice flows and bartenders craft both alcoholic and zero-proof versions of otherworldly cocktails. For a cool cocktail experience, order The Source, a blend of blue butterfly-infused gin, Italicus, rhubarb liqueur, strawberry puree, lemon and a bergamot bubble that pops and smoke flows out.

Whether you’re an art lover, a mystery solver or simply someone who enjoys things on the surreal side, Omega Mart delivers an experience you can’t find anywhere else in this town.
