Reality Check
I’ve written in this space many times about the debt Las Vegas owes to reality television competition shows. America’s Got Talent, for example, is responsible for no fewer than six shows on the Strip, while American Idol ’s impact continues to be felt in a huge way. Season four winner Carrie Underwood recently completed one of the Strip’s most successful residencies at Resorts World Las Vegas, and this week sees the return of perhaps the show’s most iconic star: Season one winner Kelly Clarkson.
It’s been an incredible ride for Clarkson over the decades, not only releasing numerous best-selling albums but creating a successful talk show and several Las Vegas residencies. Her most recent, Studio Sessions, arrives this week at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace (“All We Ever Wanted,” p. 32).
And Clarkson’s return to Vegas is just the beginning of the fun in this week’s issue. We’ve got options lined up for fans of every aspect of the city’s vast lineup:
• If you’re here for the Fourth of July, you’ll want to check out our features on barbecue options around town (“Fire Up the Grill, and the Smoker, Too,” p. 28) and where to watch fireworks (“Boom, Bang, Pop, Pow!” p. 34).

Hitting the town tonight? Stop by your concierge to pick up a copy of our sister publication, VEGAS2GO.
• In town for a great production show? You need to head to Bellagio and check out Cirque du Soleil’s water-based spectacular “O,” which, despite its decades on the Strip, has lost absolutely none of its magic (“A Living, Breathing Show,” p. 38).
• Looking for that next unforgettable meal? Check out the Japanese options at Kusa Nori at Resorts World Las Vegas (“Land, Sea and Thee,” p. 14).
Reality does not, in fact, bite. Especially here!

You’ll Be Loving Them
The boy band that defined a generation launches a Las Vegas residency
Calling all Blockheads! Dust off that old concert tee because Donnie, Joey, Jordan, Jonathan and Danny are bringing all the feels to Las Vegas with their first-ever residency.
For anyone who came of age in the late ’80s and early ’90s, New Kids on the Block wasn’t just a band—it was a musical phenomenon that defined an entire generation’s adolescence. These Boston teens created the modern boy band blueprint that every group from Backstreet Boys to BTS would follow.
When producer Maurice Starr assembled Jonathan Knight, Jordan Knight, Joey McIntyre, Donnie Wahlberg and Danny Wood in the mid-’80s, he put together something truly special. The group’s breakthrough album, Hangin’ Tough, spawned hits like “Please Don’t Go Girl,” “You Got It (The Right Stuff),” and “I’ll Be Loving You (Forever).” But NKOTB’s real genius wasn’t just its infectious blend of pop and contemporary R&B; it was the innovative approach to fan engagement and merchandising that set new industry standards long before the advent of social media.
Now Vegas visitors get to experience one of music’s most enduring acts. After the massive success of its soldout Magic Summer Tour in 2024 and the release of album Still Kids that same year, NKOTB has crafted something specifically for Vegas—a residency that kicked off June 20 and runs through February of next year.
“We cherish every opportunity that we get to perform for our fans, but a Las Vegas residency gives us an opportunity to take our performance, and interaction with our fans, to the next level,” said Donnie Wahlberg during The Right Stuff residency announcement. – Genevie Durano

Land, Sea and Thee
Restaurant specializes in Japanese cuisine
For a delicious evening, dip into the Asian-inspired world of Kusa Nori, where the Japanese menu spans all manner of meat and seafood. Inside the restaurant, you’ll find a relaxing, elegant and yet whimsical décor, with hard wood, bamboo and an ocean full of sea creatures swimming through the air and up the walls.
Kusa Nori encourages the genteel art of communal dining, with plenty of dishes perfect for sharing, like the wagyu gyoza, beef dumplings with Okinawa sweet potato purée; shrimp or vegetable tempura; or Jidori chicken karaage with shoyu, pickled veg and scallions. One of most pleasing aspects of dining here is the detail added to each dish, such as the hamachi carpaccio, accented with micro cilantro flowers, tiny radishes and serrano chilis. Another great way to get the whole table involved is with a larger-format dish like the lobster miso bisque, featuring lobster tempura, crispy tofu and shiitake mushrooms, or whole Peking duck served with pancakes, daikon and several sauces.
Sushi fans will dig the varied menu of sashimi and nigiri, available in moriawase selections with 10 chef-chosen pieces. The Yoshi’s cube
is a visually attractive way to get seven separate ingredients in one package. Rolls and maki include a number of items crafted specially for Las Vegas, plus classic rolls like the 300 LVBLVD, made with snow crab, asparagus and togarashi taki salmon. The Strip roll has everything from maguro to sea urchin inside, while the Silver State roll centers around king crab, avocado and cucumber. And paying homage to Las Vegas’ unofficial designation, the 9th Island poke roll features Hawaiianstyle tuna poke with nori tsukudani.
Larger entrées include the Hokkaido scallops, served with king crab squash blossoms, truffle Jidori chicken katsu and Blackhawk wagyu, with 8 ounces of robatagrilled hangar steak. For a fun time, get the robatayaki, with differently sized selections of such items as kurobata pork belly, Okinawa sweet potato, jumbo tiger shrimp and kalbi beef. Those beef fans may want to consider the wagyu shabu shabu, with 6 ounces of Blackhawk wagyu and vegetables in a kombu dashi broth. –Nina King

F1-themed attraction offers various racing-themed fun
Spread across 39 acres and packed with more than 100,000 square feet of interactive Formula 1 fun, the Grand Prix Plaza—normally used as the hub for the F1 event in November—is now a destination for racing fans year-round.
Opening at 10 a.m. each day, bring the group or family and explore ticketed attractions like F1®X, a museum-quality exhibition that explores the 75-year history of the sport, including never-before-seen artifacts as well as the opportunity for guests to use cutting-edge
technology to build their own virtual racing car. There’s also a 4D Theater where you can race along the Las Vegas Strip Circuit.
For some ultimate fun, stop into F1®Drive, the official F1 karting attraction. Get behind the wheel and put pedal to medal as you race around nearly 1,700 feet of track and 31 hair-raising turns at speeds up to 30 mph on part of the actual track used in the F1 series in November. If being on the track isn’t your thing, you still have the chance to experience racing
with the F1®Sims, racing simulators that combine motion technology with audio-visual effects that put you in the driver’s seat for a fun racing adventure.
If exploring and playing has worked up an appetite, stop into Fuel & Fork, where you can indulge in F1-inspired cocktails and elevated bites like the truffle smash burger, caviar sliders and decadent desserts. –Kiko Miyasato

Better With Time
This restaurant serves phenomenal aged beef
For more than 40 years, The Steak House at Circus Circus has been the go-to for generations of tourists and locals alike. And that’s because its customers always know what they’re getting: seriously great food, a menu that keeps things more or less the same year in and year out, service that makes you feel special, and an old-school ambience you really can’t find anywhere else on the Strip. This is the sort of restaurant where it’s not uncommon on any given night to see at least an anniversary or birthday celebrated. It’s just that special.
Start your meal with any of the splendid appetizers, from the French onion soup and deeply flavorful grilled garlic shrimp and sautéed mushrooms to oysters on the half shell or the massive Seafood Sensation, a tower of oysters, crab and shrimp that’s practically a meal by itself! Salads here are all fresh and satisfying. The blue cheese wedge is always great, but if you want to bump things up a notch, order the Waldorf wedge, which is served with a balsamic blue cheese vinaigrette. For something really light yet deeply satisfying, opt for the tomato, mozzarella and basil salad.
Whatever you order from the steak menu, know this: All the beef on it is Midwestern in origin and aged for 21 days at 37 degrees Fahrenheit to achieve maximum flavor quality and texture. From the New York strip and porterhouse to the filet mignon and ribeye on the bone, every bite here will put you in the best of moods.
And if red meat isn’t quite what you’re craving, quality alternatives include lamb chops, salmon filet, twin broiled lobster tails, Alaskan king crab legs, sweet chili-glazed salmon, chicken breast and grilled garlic shrimp. No matter what you choose, make sure to accompany them with the wonderful sides like asparagus, garlic mashed potatoes, sautéed mushrooms or a humongous baked potato with all the fixings. –Ken Miller

Time to Learn
Broaden your horizons while looking out at one
If you’ve packed up the kiddos and brought them to Las Vegas with you and need a place that combines fun and some education, head to the High Roller observation wheel, clocking in at 550 feet and offering 360-degree views of the city from 28 spacious pods.
Once aboard, download the self-guided S.T.E.M. Family Field Trip Guide. This curriculum sheet is a 30- to 40-minute lesson plan that’ll get the entire family discussing architectural design, geogra-
phy, science and math.
For an adults-only outing, think about getting tickets for the Happy Half Hour— where groups can enjoy an all-you-candrink open bar for one full rotation of the wheel (about 30 minutes). One cabin fits up to 25 of your nearest and dearest fellow drinkers.
If you’re here for nuptials, good news! You can reserve a wedding, complete with flowers and music, which will end with you kissing the bride or groom as the
cabin finishes its rotation. And gender reveal parties for the parents-to-be? Yep, High Roller has got you covered on that as well, with a gender reveal light show that lights up the High Roller’s 2,000 LED lights in your baby’s color for 15 minutes. This package also comes complete with a signature “Mommy Mocktail” from Sky Lounge Bar. –Las Vegas Magazine Staff

Showing Its Chops
Southern rock band brings all the hits to downtown Vegas
With its clear Lynyrd Skynyrd influence, Molly Hatchet created a legendary catalog in a very short time, guaranteeing decades of live performances that would have fans on their feet from start to finish. And while all its original members have passed on, the band’s torch is more than ably carried by the current lineup of guitarist Bobby Ingram, keyboardist John Galvin, bassist Tim Lindsey, vocalist Parker Lee and drummer Garrett Ramsden.
This is propulsive rock of the
highest order, combining boogie and hard rock with a serious Southern edge. From its self-titled album in 1978 to No Guts…No Glory in 1983, the group cemented its legacy with musclebound hits including “Whiskey Man,” “Bounty Hunter,” “Gator Country,” “One Man’s Pleasure,” “Fall of the Peacemakers,” “Flirtin’ With Disaster” and so many more.
The group would go on to produce many more albums, and some of the material from the later years is, indeed, featured in its live perfor-
mances, including “Devil’s Canyon,” “I’m Gonna Live Til I Die,” “Son of the South” and “Firing Line.” But fans craving the amazing covers of The Rolling Stones’ “It’s All Over Now” and Skynrd’s “Dreams” will not likely be disappointed. And they’ll likely not be sitting for one single solitary second once Hatchet pulls out its axes. –Ken Miller

Have a Roaring Good Time
Nightlife venue features Great Gatsby-themed cocktails and experiences
This summer, Gatsby’s Cocktail Lounge will celebrate four successful years of nightlife at Resorts World Las Vegas. “Gatsby’s encompasses two different things; it’s a cocktail lounge focused on fantastic craft cocktails and then the atmosphere morphs into a high-energy lounge Thursday through Saturday in the evenings,” said Scott Diel, marketing director. “It’s really an ode to the 1920s, art deco, Roaring ’20s party scene with a focus on champagne and celebrating the finer things in life.”
The design and décor are chic and almost ethereal, with giant, color-changing orbs hanging from the ceiling. Plenty of seating including bar and high-top seating is available, and lounge seating with tables can be booked online (which is highly suggested on weekends).
The lounge is a laid-back social scene, but when 10 p.m. hits, the billowy white curtains close, the DJ takes the reins, the music gets louder and the vibes turn way up.
This is when a little party that never hurt nobody gets started. Begin with two favorite cocktails: the Daisy’s Sour (a mainstay on the Gatsby’s specialty cocktails menu) with Haku vodka, Lazzaroni amaretto, lemon and lime
juices, rosemary syrup, lavender bitters and egg whites; and the newly created Hibiscus Paloma with 818 blanco tequila, hibiscus syrup, fresh lime juice and Fever-Tree grapefruit soda. While Gatsby’s shines in handcrafted cocktails, the lounge is celebrated for its celebration of champagne,
offering 11 different vintages by the glass. “We offer a great list of vintage champagnes with approachable price points,” Diel said. “You’d find them at high-end, white-tablecloth restaurants, not something that you’d normally find at a cocktail lounge.” A great way to indulge in some bubbly is by ordering
Champagne flight
the champagne flight. Not only is the presentation beautifully bougie, but you’ll get four glasses of champagne— Lallier Réflexions R. 019, Ruinart Blanc de Blancs, Perrier Jouet Blason rosé and Beau Joie Sugar King, as well as a little side of Torres black truffle potato chips and sea salt dark chocolates. Presentations really go over the top with the secret cocktail menu (just look for the QR code on the regular menu). These cocktails are what helped give Gatsby’s its killer reputation as a Strip cocktail destination. If you haven’t
Tips/Insider Knowledge
Gatsby’s once-monthly “Moët and Diamonds” celebrations are meant for puttin’ on the Ritz. Come dressed in your finest for a chance to win a crystallized bottle of Moët & Chandon. Check Gatsby’s website and social media for the next one.
Keep an eye on Resorts World Theatre’s calendar, as Gatsby’s often hosts themed nights based on the concert schedule.
Junior’s was recently added to the food menu—its chicken wings and chicken tenders. “They have the best chicken tenders in the world,” Diel said. “They are unreal! I don’t know what they do over there, but it’s amazing.”
spotted any of the secret menu cocktails on social media yet, one could argue you haven’t been on social media in years. “Not only are they fantastic-tasting cocktails, they’re built to party,” Diel said. “The secret menu is filled with really beautiful cocktails that are interactive and fun to party with.”
In a nod to the Great Gatsby era
where bathtubs were filled with gin, the Champagne Bubble Bath is a mix of Aperol and gin and juices, completed tableside with a pour of champagne and mojito-foam bubbles (some mini rubber duckies are added to the tub party).
Share the Get Out and Dance cocktail, the newest on the menu, with a group of friends, because a large disco ball is filled to the brim with vodka, juices and Red Bull and brought to the table with sparklers and flashing lights. “These cocktails are your Vegas social media moments,” Diel said.
Rounding out the Gatsby’s experience are light bites (served till 9:30 p.m.) from nearby eateries Wally’s Wine & Spirits and Kusa Nori. From Wally’s comes an assortment of cheese and charcuterie boards, and the Kusa Nori dishes include popular picks like the blue fin tuna tartare, hama crispy rice, wagyu gyoza and rock shrimp tempura. –Kiko Miyasato

Play maker and hype man is ready to show you a good time
There’s no one more hype working on the Las Vegas Strip than Justin Graves. In fact, you can call him the hype man in addition to his official title of play maker at Play Playground at Luxor. “This is a playground, come and have fun,” he says. “Run around, sweat, play the games, make some noise.” And while you’re doing all that, you’ll spot Graves having fun right along with guests.
When he joined Play Playground over a year ago, he was hired on as a play maker,
someone to help people play the more than 20 immersive games. “But I can’t sit still and stay to one area, especially when I see people having a good time,” Graves says. “So I started getting so good at being a hype man that they were like, ‘Justin do your thing,’ and they gave me a megaphone and they let me do my thing. I put a little extra sauce into it.”
Full of personality and then some, Graves’ talents expand into his other jobs, writing and acting. In fact, the day after

So, as he waits for his big break, he keeps working his talents and his knack for getting people to have fun at Play Playground. “I get to be myself at this job, which is dope,” he says. “I get to be a hype man and have a good time, and it’s my job to make sure others are having a good time, too.” –Kiko Miyasato

From burgers to barbecue, celebrate summer’s goodness
It’s that time of year, where the smell of smoke and barbecue sauce mean good things are sure to follow. And even though you are in Las Vegas, you will find that fragrance in many establishments. Here are a few to consider while you’re here:
At Flanker Kitchen & Sports Bar from Carver Road Hospitality, there are plenty of excellent items to indulge in, like the Cuban sandwich with smoked pork shoulder, a bone-in smoked pork chop served with butter beans and a BBQ burnt end wedge salad, with upgrades to all the classic ingredients, like crispy shallots, Danish bleu cheese, heirloom tomato and smoked brisket. And special for July 4-7, Flanker serves a special set of dishes like the fresh watermelon salad with arugula, cucum ber, feta and balsamic. Barbecue ribs are slow cooked with mac and cheese and potato salad. And peach cobbler is served with ice cream and spiced caramel sauce. There are also several burger options, like the bacon smash with a wagyu patty, American cheese and garlic aioli.
Yardbird Southern Table & Bar
Carversteak
Speaking of burgers, at sister Carver Road property Carversteak at Resorts World Las Vegas, you’ll find the Carver-Steak & Egg burger, a decadent dish with a Creekstone Farms smashburger, Gruyère, shallots, horseradish cream, a Snake River Farms American wagyu rib cap and a fried egg. You can see that “decadent” is quite an understatement. It’s only available at the bar starting at 5 p.m., and in limited quantities. You can also order wagyu beef skewers, which have been grilled over charcoal.
At 50 Eggs Hospitality’s Yardbird Southern Table & Bar at The Venetian, order up St. Louis ribs for the smoky flavor, or try the Backyard BBQ platter to try several things, like a quarter chicken, smoked salmon skewer, andouille sausage and short ribs. You’ll also find a boatload of Southern
sides like collard greens with smoked chicken, cheesy grits and blackened green beans.
For a place that specializes in barbecue, head to Virgil’s Real Barbecue in The Linq Promenade, where you’ll find barbecue of all types. The restaurant smokes meats in-house, including brisket, Duroc pork spare ribs and chicken. There are plenty of preparations, plus items like grilled salmon if you want to keep it light. But Virgil’s also has summer favorites like potato salad and mac and cheese and drinks like Kicked Up lemonade and Kicked Up sweet tea. And you can get them by the gallon, if you have a few friends to share with (if you’re in a sharing mood, that is).
Get a little star power along with your meal when you head to Guy Fieri’s Flavortown Sports Kitchen in Horseshoe Las Vegas. There’s a variety of smoked-in-house meats here like 18-hour brisket and the American Royal Ribs, a full rack of hardwood-smoked pork ribs with Guy’s bourbon brown sugar BBQ sauce and side of slaw.
BLVD Bar BQ & Wings at FSLV— Fashion Show Las Vegas serves up plenty of traditional plates of barbecue, and also has two sandwich options for a quicker meal, the brisket sandwich and the pulled pork sandwich. And if you’re a fan of Coney Island dogs, the restaurant offers original, chili-cheese, brisket and pulled pork versions.

“O” at Bellagio continues to redefine what’s possible
At the risk of this writer dating herself, I first saw “O” at Bellagio shortly after it premiered on Oct. 17, 1998. While specific acts had faded from memory—until I experienced the show again recently—the emotion it evoked was a familiar one. Then as now, the beauty of “O” is hard to put into words; it lives in the space between heartbeats, demanding to be felt rather than explained. From the haunting music to the gravity-defying artistry, “O” stirs something profound about the limitless possibilities of the human body and spirit. Since its debut more than 26 years ago, this dreamlike production has captivated more than 20 million audience members over 12,000-plus performances. In a city built on spectacle and change, “O” isn’t just another show; it’s a Vegas institution that proves some productions don’t just entertain, they transcend. With no spoken dialogue, the story ripples through movement, music and visual metaphor, creating a performance that feels part circus, part ballet and part waking
dream—all unfolding on a shimmering, 95-foot-wide aquatic stage filled with 1.5 million gallons of water. Performers dive, leap and seemingly fly above, on and through water in ways that defy logic, at times becoming one with the water itself.
What makes “O” truly extraordinary isn’t just the 76 performers gracefully moving above the surface—it’s the invisible world working below. During every single performance, 14 technical team members are submerged underwater, breathing through apparatus while moving scenery, props and equipment in a choreographed, timed-to-the-second dance that the audience never sees.
“There’s a whole world of action underneath the water that you would have no concept of as an audience member,” says Niall Sheehy, the production’s company manager. This underwater crew, part of a larger team of more than 150 technicians, divers and stage crew members, helps create the seamless magic where stages sink, rise and disappear entirely beneath the water.
For the world-class acrobats and gymnasts who join “O” (fun fact: there are eight Olympians currently on the roster, more than any other show in the world), mastering a water-based performance requires learning entirely new skills. These performers, who’ve spent years perfecting their moves, must master the art of plunging into water from impossible heights while maintaining their artistic precision. With two performances daily (delivering around 500 shows annually), the performers are always refining their artistry.
“These world-class performers are constantly finding ways to grow and to challenge the boundaries of human performance. It’s a very natural thing for our performers to be focused on elevating the complexity and the technical aspects of what they do every day,” Sheehy says.
“Alongside that, the artistic staff, in particular our artistic director, is also finding ways on a daily basis to find that freshness for the performers.”
Even if you’ve seen “O” before, you haven’t really seen “O.”
The show’s layered complexity means that repeat visitors discover new details they missed the first time. “It doesn’t matter how often you watch ‘O,’ you will notice something that you haven’t seen before,” Sheehy says.
“It’s a living, breathing show.” 702.693.7068

The Fantasy dancers took time to explore some of the games, including Poker Parkour and Bullseye Bounce Make your night one to remember when you check out the new bar, but make sure to start or end the evening with tickets to Fantasy.
