It is with a heavy heart that I write this week’s editor’s note. The Las Vegas Magazine team lost a treasured member to a senseless tragedy: freelance writer Matt Kelemen. It’s hard to explain the impact Matt’s contributions had to the magazine on a weekly basis, but I’ll do my best in this week’s space to do so.
When I took over as editor in 2015, Matt was already writing for the publication. In the 10 years we worked together, Matt delved into every single area of the Las Vegas entertainment scene. He interviewed performers in Strip productions, behind-the-scenes creative types and plenty of talented comedians, musicians, magicians, dancers ... the list just goes on and on. In every interview, Matt’s preparation could be felt in every question, and it wasn’t unusual to sense the appreciation in the answers from interviewees like Kris Kristofferson, Bob Newhart, Cyndi Lauper, Joel McHale, Chris Isaak, David Cross and so many more.
Whether he was describing a Cirque du Soleil show like Mad Apple, “O” or KÀ, taking readers through a trip to Omega Mart or profiling headliners like Donny Osmond, Carlos Santana, Janet Jackson or Barry Manilow, Matt threw himself fully into every story, doing deep research dives and searching for unusual angles that made the read a fun journey for our audience. There was a joy in his work that never wavered, even if he was writing about a show, attraction or spa for the eighth time. (And given our magazine’s coverage area, that happened quite a bit over 10 years.)
Las Vegas Magazine has long been the premier source of information on the Strip; Matt was an enormous part of that reputation. He got this city; he got the visitors; and he got it right.
Rest in peace, Matt.

Have It All
This 365-days-a-year rooftop hot spot in downtown Las Vegas has everything you could ask for in one location
Stadium Swim at Circa Resort & Casino is truly unlike any other destination in Las Vegas. It’s a pool. It’s a sports-viewing haven. It’s a bar and restaurant. If you have a Las Vegas itinerary, we urge you to add Stadium Swim to the list—it’s a must-see and must-experience for any visitor. “Stadium Swim—it’s surreal,” said EJ Stagner, director of Stadium Swim at Circa Resort & Casino. “It’s an environment that Vegas has never seen before.”
It’s a:
• Pool. And not just one! Enjoy six different pools which are arrayed around the complex—and don’t miss the swimup bars.
• Sports-viewing haven. We bet you haven’t watched your favorite team on a massive 40-foot-tall, high-definition screen with 14 million pixels! With NBA and NHL finals going on, Stadium Swim is the spot to catch a game. It is also a premier place to catch all UFC PPV fights. “We’ve really upped the game as far as sports-viewing is concerned,” Stagner said.
• Bar and restaurant. You never have to leave the venue if you’re thirsty.
Stadium Swim offers a nice selection of signature cocktails like the Kentucky Tea, Orange Dreamsicle, Watermelon Wings, Jalisco Heat Wave, Ace Paloma, Bloody Maria and Barbados Blitz. There are also several frozen drinks machines churning flavors like mango, watermelon fresco, frosé, piña colada and lemonade. Poolside perfection!.
You can also munch on a bevy of dishes including lobster corn dogs, nacho platter, Impossible sliders, chopped Cobb salad, crispy chicken Caesar wrap, breakfast burrito, charcuterie boards, fruit platters, shrimp cocktail, beef sliders and much more.
“(Stadium Swim) is definitely different,” Stagner said. “I think it provides not only downtown but Las Vegas in general a great place for locals and tourists. It really gives you the best of both worlds—if you just want to come for the pool party and experience that or for sports fans this is really the only place in Vegas, in the country, to really experience watching your team.”

Still Dancing
This legendary showman may stop touring soon, but his Las Vegas residency looks to continue long into the future
Barry Manilow might have received a lifetime residency commitment from his Las Vegas host property, but the 81-year-old entertainer has also embarked on a tour of the United States that’s being dubbed The Last Concerts
The showman who brought the world classics like “I Write the Songs,” “Weekend in New England,” “Looks Like We Made It” and “Mandy” brings his arena tour to cities like Pittsburgh, Seattle, Detroit and Philadelphia, culminating in a performance in San Jose on July 20. Once he’s finished, he’s theoretically done with touring.
“I couldn’t be more thrilled to visit these great cities of which I have so many fond memories,” Manilow said in a statement. “Each one is special to my touring history.”
What that means is that, as of August, if you want to see Barry Manilow perform, you gotta come to Vegas. And if you haven’t yet seen his Vegas show, you gotta do it. It’s not hyperbole to say it’s one of the best current residencies this city has to offer. The man is no spring chicken, but once he hits that stage and hits
high notes on songs like “I Made It Through the Rain” while strutting the stage and rarely standing still, you’d never know it.
There’s another special reason to see Manilow now: Every single Vegas performance is history in the making. He broke Elvis Presley’s record of 636 performances in the International Showroom last year, so each show just adds to what’s already a precedent-setting show. Manilow credits a big part of the run to the showroom itself. “The Westgate is the perfect room for me,” he said in an exclusive interview with Las Vegas Magazine. “Out of all the rooms that I’ve ever played, this is the one for me. If I was building one for myself, this is the size that I would have built.”
A huge part of his Vegas shows is the Fanilow contingent. To be in a crowd with his biggest fans is to truly feel like part of a huge family, with Manilow saying things to the crowd like, “Let’s close the doors and order a pizza!” –Ken Miller
Music, Food and Fun
Hot spot now features a monthly free jamboree
It’s already become one of the best places to park if you’re attending a concert or sporting event at nearby Allegiant Stadium (with 638 spots available), but this summer, WSKY Stadium is also going to become a great place to enjoy live music and happy hour specials.
Called the “Hometown Throwdown” and happening from now through August, WSKY Stadium will host a once-a-month happy hour from 4-7 p.m. (with 50 percent off select items) and live entertainment from 7-10 p.m. But best of all?
There’s no cover, and parking is absolutely free! The next Hometown Throwdown is June 20, with live music from Joey Vital during happy hour and live music from the Little Bit Country Band from 7-10 p.m.
But even if you’re not headed to Allegiant, you’ll still want to check out this incredible venue. In addition to plenty of seating and great views from floor-toceiling windows, you can enjoy a fun, varied menu with breakfast, lunch and dinner specials and more than 20 beers on tap.
There are so many great options here, but we personally recommend the T&T Burger (so flavorful with its combo of blue cheese, bacon jam and garlic aioli, all on a brioche bun) and the Italian Grinder, one of the best examples of its kind in town, piled high with salami, carving board ham, spicy capicola and topped with smoked provolone, banana peppers, red onion, shredded lettuce and garlic and red wine vinegar aioli on French bread. –Ken Miller

Celebrity chef’s outpost has many surprises
Nothing beats chowing down on a delicious burger, especially after a long day of catching rays at the pool or a wild night of partying in the club. No matter when you’ve got a hankering for hamburgers, Gordon Ramsay Burger surely has something satisfying for any occasion.
Order from the all-day brunch menu for treats like the Benedict Burger, stacked with a pork patty, Canadian bacon, fried egg and spinach and smothered in hollandaise sauce. Also from the brunch section, try the Full English Breakfast Burger, a handheld delight piled high with fixin’s from a traditional morning meal you’d find across the pond; a banger patty, bacon, mushrooms, fried egg, roasted tomato and baked beans, topped with HP Sauce.
Find other menu standouts in the specialties section like the Cluck Yeah G.F.C. sandwich, an irresistible combination of fried chicken, red cabbage slaw and pickled onions, coated in tangy, umami-flavored GFC sauce and served on a super-cute pink brioche bun. Not only is it a dish you’ll love the taste of, but you’ll love all the likes rolling in when you post it to your socials.
Even vegans and vegetarians will leave this hot spot happy thanks to the Viva Vegan Burger, featuring a plant-based patty, roasted tomatoes, butter lettuce and eggless mayo, served on a vegan bun. Plus, shareable snacks like street corn dip with jalapeños, Fresno peppers, cotija and Parmesan cheeses, lime and cilantro, or the beer-battered onion rings with ParmigianoReggiano, chipotle ketchup and cheddar ranch make for delectable additions to round out a meat-free meal.
Leaving here without a sweet treat would be a huge misstep. Slurp a 99 Flake Shake for a rich vanilla concoction with crunchy waffle cone pieces, Flake chocolate bar and rich chocolate fudge. Or, if you’re a fan of Ramsay’s sticky toffee pudding, try the Sticky Toffee Waffle, a delicious rendition of the chef’s famed dessert topped with toasted pecans and vanilla ice cream. –Em Jurbala

Heartbreak and Hits
Regional Mexican music sensation brings his ‘Mirada Tour’ to the Vegas Strip
At only 21 years old, Ivan Cornejo is riding a wave of popularity that would make most other artists envious. Every time the American-born performer of regional Mexican music posts a video on YouTube, it garners tens of millions of views. Earlier this year, Rolling Stone referred to him as the “future of music.” And this week, his Mirada Tour comes to the Las Vegas Strip, and you can guarantee that Cornejo will be performing those same YouTube songs live to a screaming audience.
It’s been a meteoric rise, to be sure. The Riverside, Calif.-born Cornejo has only been releasing albums since 2021, but has been incredibly prolific in a short time, releasing three albums, and his second, 2022’s Dañado, is certified five-times platinum. His emotional lyrics are those of love and heartbreak, especially 2021’s “Está Dañado,” now certified eighttimes platinum.
The industry certainly notice of Cornejo; at the 2022 Billboard Latin Music Awards, he won for Best New Artist of the Year as well as Best Regional Mexican Album of the Year, an award he would win again in 2023.
He’s truly a songwriter and performer beyond his years, and the future certainly seems as bright as it can possibly be for someone who just this week turned old enough to drink. –Ken Miller

Something to Talk About
From brunch to dinner, enjoy delicious Mexican fare
I don’t stop talking about the cucumber agua fresca at ¡VIVA! by Ray Garcia . Truth is, I don’t stop talking about it, I don’t stop thinking about it, I don’t stop craving it, especially when the weather heats up. Give it a try for yourself.
You’ll also find some of the most scrumptious Mexican cuisine available on the Strip. Stop in for brunch to dine on specialties like tres leches French toast with candied pecans, seasonal berries, tres leches sauce and whipped cream, or chorizo con huevos
served with fingerling potatoes and flour tortillas.
If a satisfying dinner is what you seek, worry not, there’s plenty to enjoy at this colorful venue. Start with the chicharrones, which includes pork rinds, crispy chicken skins, crab chips, shrimp chips, duritos and habanero hot sauce. A classic order of chips and salsa includes an addictive, garlicky salsa tatemada.
For mains, there’s no bad choice, but the enchiladas de pollo are absolutely exceptional. Made with
chicken, requesón, feta and red onion, these are extremely satisfying and smothered in the most delicious red sauce. Additionally, the Baja tacos entrée includes three to-die-for handhelds filled with Mexican shrimp, crunchy cabbage, citrusy pico de gallo and rich cilantro crema.
Don’t forget that agua fresca. And don’t be surprised when you don’t stop talking about it. –Em Jurbala

Reality TV star’s third Strip venue stuns in every way possible
What can we say? The Vanderpumps just do it so, so well. The family brand has already opened two successful operations on the Strip at Caesars Palace and Paris Las Vegas, and its third hot spot, Pinky’s by Vanderpump, brings a luxe, art deco atmosphere with a creative cocktail program to the iconic Flamingo.
Upon stepping through the striking green gates that create a portal to this opulent venue, you’ll notice the space has been designed with keen attention to detail. Lush greenery fills the atrium-like area by the Stripside entrance, while plush pinks accent the stunning gold hues found throughout the rest of
the splendid space. Part of what makes this bar so visually interesting are the various textures throughout. Fuzzy wallpaper, scaled tiles, ostrich feathers—it all just feels oh so extravagant. Naturally, you’ll find a cocktail program just as carefully crafted as the
environment here. Largely developed by Pandora Vanderpump Sabo, Lisa Vanderpump’s daughter, the beverage menu took weeks to perfect, but that effort paid off, resulting in some of the most well-balanced, enjoyable cocktails on the Strip.
Popcorn and Pop’s Scotch
Tips/Insider Knowledge
Order snacks like the goat cheese balls with strawberry and hot honey or the deviled egg gardens, a flight of five deviled eggs with toppings like caviar, lobster salad and smoked salmon. Looking to get the party started? You can order a Vanderpump signature birdcage with shots for the whole group!
Stop in for the decadent brunch and taste some midmorning exclusives like Lisa’s Bloody Hell, a take on the Bloody Mary with jalapeño vodka, Pinky’s Bloody Mary mix, Firewater, lime, Worcestershire and Tajín—garnished with tater tots!
Martinis and spritzes make up a large portion of the menu, including standout sips like the Pump & Bump, a martini flavored with vermouth, orange bitters, Green Chartreuse and olive brine, served with a perfect pop of caviar. This cocktail features Vanderpump brand vodka, which has a clean, crisp flavor that works perfectly with the mixture of bright and savory flavors in this drink.
Prefer a gin-based martini? Try The Dirty Dog, an everything bagel-inspired concoction of WORKDOG London dry gin (another incredible Vanderpump family product), olive brine, blue cheese olives and everything bagel seasoning. Or order The Vanderpump Vesper, made with Tanqueray Sevilla gin, Vanderpump vodka and Lillet Blanc for an elegant, simpler sip.
For some bubbles, order the Sin & Tonic. Made with Empress gin, hibiscus, blood orange, lemon and ginger bitters and tonic, this fruity bev is not only refreshing and delicious, but also totally gorgina. Seriously, think about your Instagram post: A vibrant pink libation, surrounded by rich green hues, illuminated by the natural light that streams in through the floor-to-ceiling windows. Who wouldn’t double tap?
And that’s just the beginning of the postable potations to choose from. If the classic Old-Fashioned is up your alley, order the Pop’s Scotch, a popcorn-themed take on the standard sip, made with brown butter caramel, vanilla cherry bitters and Angostura bitters. Plus, this drink comes with its own snack—an adorable little bag of popcorn!
You don’t even have to tipple to enjoy a fabulous beveragino from this menu, as there are two mocktails to choose from that will tickle you all the
same. Have the earthy and herbaceous Sage Advice, made with pineapple, sage, matcha, lemon, mint, soda and aquafaba (chickpea brine). We know what you’re thinking: bean juice in a cocktail? Worry not, aquafaba acts relatively similar to egg whites and is used to add a bit of froth to the top of the drink. If matcha isn’t your match, have the Flamingo Pink, made with strawberry, coconut cream, lemon, soda and aquafaba. –Em Jurbala

Jeff Chow
A love for wine has sustained a four-decade career
After graduating college, Jeff Chow decided to backpack across Europe. Eventually, he started to run out of money. So, since it happened to be the height of wine season he learned that vineyards were always looking to hire help to work the fields. With just enough money left he hopped a train to Bordeaux, France and soon after arriving knocked on the first chateau’s door he came across and got lucky—he was hired. “That’s when I discovered the wine business,” Chow
says. “That’s when I began to fall in love with it all.”
Four decades later, Chow has filled his life with all things wine, including running various wine programs in restaurants across the country, working as a wine distributor and educator and, this year, he joined Orla at Mandalay Bay as the wine director and sommelier.
“I’ve put together a international global wine list at Orla,” Chow says. “We have something for everyone’s budget. One

Chow has curated an award-winning wine list with many of the vintages coming from boutique vineyards, like the Ramnista Xinomavro 2019, a vibrant red wine from Greek vineyard Kir-Yianni. “I love to use this wine in the dinner pairings I put together,” he says.–KM
wine for $66,000 and wines priced at $60 and everything in between. I love guiding people through the experience.”
Ever since he bought that one-way ticket to Europe, Chow has continued to nourish his passion for wine. “Wine is a passion of mine,” he says. “Wine never stops evolving. There’s so much to learn. I love the emerging styles and new trends. … It’s fulfilling to me, learning and teaching about wine. I’m still in love with it all.” –Kiko Miyasato

Zaytinya brings Mediterranean cuisine into flavorful focus
By Nina King
If you’ve ever been to a José Andrés restaurant, you know how good it was. And with the opening of Zaytinya at Caesars Palace, there’s a new culinary adventure awaiting in Las Vegas.
Zaytinya opened near the end of May in a big, bright space in the Forum Shops at Caesars, easily accessible from the Strip with closeby valet parking. Inside,
you’ll find a gorgeous space accented in assorted blues and sleek woods. Behind the bar is a dynamic curved wall that reminds me of ocean vistas seen through a porthole, with the colors of the Greek evil eye, perfect for enjoying as you sip a cocktail like the Minoan Sour with tsipouro (a Greek, unaged brandy), lemon and olive oil emulsified with egg white, or
Chicken muhammara
Two things you may want to try at Zaytinya—Mezze Óra, where happy hour meets the Mediterranean, and the Chef’s Experience at dinner:
From 5-6 p.m. Monday to Thursday, try three types of pide for a special price, three specialty cocktails and two beers in the bar and lounge.
The Chef’s Experience brings a tasting menu-type dinner for $90 per person, and the dishes will just keep coming. It’s a great way to try more dishes than you might otherwise order.
the Za’atar margarita, a zesty sip of Milagro tequila, orange liqueur, lime and za’atar air.
The mix of Greek, Turkish and Lebanese cuisines leads to a delicious combination of spices. For instance, za’atar, although seen in many cuisines, is especially present on the Zaytinya menu in such items as the above twist on a margarita, or in appetizers
Mishwi,
(mezze) like the labneh, a strained Greek yogurt that is a perfect, creamy dip for your pitas. Other dips include hummus accented with harissa chili crisp, and tzatziki with diced cucumber and dill.
Like a tapas bar, mezze take up most of the space on the menu here, encouraging a sharing experience where everyone gets a bite or two of each dish. Order avgotaraho, pressed Greek mullet roe; grilled octopus Santorini with marinated onions and capers; spanakopita with a house-made phyllo; seared halloumi cheese with dates, pomegranate and pistachio; bantijian bil laban, crispy eggplant with turmeric apricots and roasted garlic yogurt; kofte kebab (ground beef), spiced with Turkish marash pepper and tomato ezme; and shish taouk,
grilled chicken skewers. Or try the Turkish flatbreads known as pide, topped with sausage and other items.
In Las Vegas, you can also get larger mains, something not available at other Zaytinya locations.
The chicken muhamarra is a roast half bird with a roasted red pepper and walnut purée, served with tomato-pomegranate salad. Other entrées include lamb chops, grilled salmon, prime beef Mishwi (grilled Creekstone Farms strip loin) and Celebration Rice with spiced, braised chicken and crispy tadig. Family style-options include lamb shoulder, whole sea bass or a kebab platter, so everyone can get their favorite.
After dinner, indulge in an espresso or a traditional Turkish coffee, accompanied by Greek yogurt and cherries or olive oil cake.

Weird Al Yankovic brings a large, hilarious catalog to the Strip
By Ken Miller
As a kid, one of my favorite things to read was Mad magazine Its parodies of the famous movies, TV shows and songs of the period were absolute genius and helped shape my sense of humor. And as soon as I had heard my first Weird Al Yankovic song, “Ricky” (based on Toni Basil’s “Mickey”), I felt like I had found a kindred spirit, someone who appreciated the fine art of playful mockery as much as I did. But Yankovic took it so much further than I could have
ever imagined through the decades, not only coming up with some of the most hilarious, clever songs ever, but music videos that still hold up today.
Yankovic hasn’t released a studio album since 2014’s Mandatory Fun, but odds are his upcoming mini-residency on the Las Vegas Strip (part of his Bigger & Weirder Tour) is going to be a major hit, so
strong is the catalog he’s amassed since picking up an accordion and recording “My Bologna” (based on The Knack’s “My Sharona”) in the bathroom of the Cal Poly San Luis Obispo Graphic Arts Building in 1979. You’re as likely to get goose bumps hearing the music of “Beat It” and “Bad” as you are to spill your beer while laughing to Yankovic’s lyrics to “Eat It” and “Fat.”
Fans are sure to hear all the tunes that have helped elevate Yankovic beyond just a parody artist, from “Smells Like Nirvana” (which not only got the full support of Kurt Cobain, the grunge band frontman said the song was proof that the band had made it!)
Not that Yankovic has been taking things easy over the last 10 years. Quite the contrary. His fans were thrilled when, in 2018, he collaborated with Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda on “The Hamilton Polka,” in which he mashed up several of the smash musical’s numbers.
And just last year, he released “Polkamania!” in which he features 12 of the biggest songs of the last 12 years in just over four minutes. The tribute to hits like “Flowers,” “Bad Guy” and “Uptown Funk” (and accompanying video) are a pleasant reminder that, although he’s not as prolific as he once was, he’s lost none of his manic talent.
and “Perform This Way” (from Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way”) to “Canadian Idiot” (“American Idiot”) and “Jurassic Park” (“MacArthur Park”). They may even hear some of his originals like “You Don’t Love Me Anymore” and “One More Minute.”
8 p.m. June 13-14, 18, 20-21, starting at $54.13 plus tax and fee. ticketmaster.com
And as an added bonus, Yankovic will be joined in Las Vegas by Puddles Pity Party, Mike Geier’s amazing creation that answers the question, “What if a clown could sing opera?” At 6-foot-8inches tall, Geier strikes an imposing, lithe figure in his Pagliacci-inspired costume, and he speaks not a word—until he begins singing, at which point you’ll be able to hear a pin drop in the theater, so hypnotic is his baritone. And if he sings a Weird Al song, it may well bring the house down.

Tell our readers why they should come and try your cocktail. … Honestly, it’s not just a drink—it’s a little adventure in a glass. I’m talking about flavors that make you pause, raise an eyebrow, and go, “Wait, what is that ?” It’s the kind of cocktail that starts a conversation and keeps you guessing with every sip ... I’ve handpicked each ingredient to play a part in the story—some familiar, some a little wild, but all chosen to surprise and delight.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever got from a guest sitting at the bar? The best piece of advice I’ve ever gotten from a guest sitting at the bar was simple yet profound: “It doesn’t matter what your favorite drink is; it matters what I need tonight.”
What’s the most important lesson you’ve learned about bartending? That people don’t come to the bar just for a cocktail—they come for an experience. … Over the years, I’ve come to realize that a good cocktail is a conversation starter, but a great experience is what keeps them coming back. Bartending is about connection, about making
people feel seen and valued—one drink, one story, one experience at a time.
What’s your favorite classic cocktail? Negroni and OldFashioned.
Name two other must-order cocktails. Apple A Day and The King.
Recipe: Bluecoat American dry gin, Polugar classic rye, house-made vermouth blend, house-made brine blend, Chareau aloe liqueur, The Bitter Truth olive bitters, CO2 charge and garnished with 24-karat gold ossetra caviar and a keepsake poem (written by Anter)
Velvet Bar at Westgate Las Vegas
The Cabinet of Curiosities and The Lock at Horseshoe Las Vegas
Name two other mustorder cocktails at your bar. Room with a View (should be served on a ski slope with a cigar) and Strawberry Whip (lavender and strawberry with a smooth creamy finish … ’nuff said).
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever got from a guest sitting at the bar? A man who thinks they know everything has learned nothing along the way.
Where are some of your favorite places to drink in the city? Hands down, Herbs and Rye and The Golden Tiki represent some of the best cocktails that Vegas has to offer.
What’s your favorite classic? A true OldFashioned served on a large cube with extra bitters.
If you didn’t make cocktails, you’d be doing what for a career? Standup comedy. Twenty years
later and I still crave that stage. It’s like therapy but cheaper.
Your favorite cocktail to make at home? Shot of Jameson backed with a Guinness.
Tell our readers why they should come and try your cocktail. For those who have an adventurous sweet tooth, this cocktail will absolutely satiate that desire with a subtle burst of floral edges and a smooth, wellrounded finish.
Recipe: Empress 1908 gin, elderflower liqueur, Madagascar vanilla liqueur, lemon, simple syrup, egg white and edible glitter
where I am from. I used to reluctantly say North Dakota because I felt not so good about answering, like I wasn’t from a cool place like New York City or L.A. But I had a guest tell me, “Never forget where you come from and own it!” So now I let my NoDak accent fly and let that small-town hospitality shine through!
Where are some of your favorite places to drink in the city? Silver Stamp, such a great concept, and I love beer. The Golden Tiki, it checks all the boxes for a great tiki establishment.
Tell our readers why they should come and try your cocktail. It is an indulgent experience, and it goes against the grain mainly because it is an unapologetic, sweet, decadent little number.
Name two other mustorder cocktails at your bar. Dealers choice: Our bartenders are highly skilled to create a custom cocktail based on the guest’s preferences and any one of the top 10 classics. … The bar team and I labored over nailing
down classics like the margarita, mojito, Old-Fashioned.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever got from a guest sitting at the bar? I always have guests asking me

Vegas Vickie’s at Circa Resort & Casino
pastaRAMEN at Resorts World Las Vegas
Name two other mustorder cocktails at your bar. Garnet (at Brezza, located next door) and Ooo Mami D-Lite.
What’s the most important lesson you’ve learned about bartending? No matter how far you’ve come or how much you learn or accomplish, there’s never a reason to be pretentious behind the bar.
What are some of your favorite ingredients to use in a cocktail? I really enjoy utilizing dry vermouth and drier sherry
Recipe: Hangar 1 Mandarin blossom orange vodka, Heering cherry liqueur, pineapple juice and syrup, Bénédictine, lemon juice, Contratto bitters, Fee Brothers aromatic bitters, garnished with mint sprig, cherry and dried lemon wheel
in cocktails to help add a unique and unexpected balance.
What’s your favorite classic cocktail? A traditional gin gimlet.
Where are some of your favorite places to drink in the city? Esther’s Kitchen, The Golden Tiki, and all three bars inside the
new DISCOSHOW at The Linq Hotel.
Tell our readers why they should come and try your cocktail. This cocktail can appeal to many. It’s not just in the vein of the tiki theme. Yes, it fits the bill, but it’s also a delicious, sweet and tart vodka cocktail. (The Siren’s Song is a secret, offmenu drink—so ask your server to make it special for you.)
Name two other mustorder cocktails at your bar. Two must-try cocktails are Yoshi’s Paradise and Loro Rojo, which are perfect for mezcal lovers.
What’s your favorite classic cocktail? Gold Rush—a simple yet bold combination of bourbon, lemon and honey. I’m a fan of dark spirits with a bit of a bite, balanced by smooth, comforting flavors.
Where are some of your favorite places to drink in the city? On The Record at Park MGM, Atomic Liquors, Swan Dive and J Karaoke.
If you didn’t make cocktails, you’d be doing what for a career? I would do something centered around helping and teaching others to embrace their true selves—whether through dance, music or even selfexpression in fashion.
Tell our readers why they should come and try your cocktail. It’s been incredibly rewarding to welcome guests who come in with curiosity and introduce them to something out of the ordinary. Having people try my cocktails allows them to step outside their comfort zones and explore new flavors in a way that feels exciting, yet approachable.

Mount Charleston
You’ve finally made it to Vegas! So many choices—you can gamble to your heart’s (and wallet’s) content, you can go on a shopping spree, you can eat at some of the world’s finest restaurants and see some of the greatest entertainers on the planet—often all in the same day! These experiences are quintessential Vegas musts and definitely contribute to a joyful and fulfilling visit. But what if that’s not enough? You may not know it, but away from the Strip, Vegas is a mini-paradise for the everyday adventurer, whether you’re venturing out during those brutal, triple-digit temperatures or during the cooler months. There are mountains to climb, trails to explore, a man-made lake to admire and nature to observe. Of course, we fully expect that you’ll be taking advantage of all the Strip has to offer. That’s why you’re here! But if you really want to stretch your legs and see a side of the Southwest you’ve never seen before, take a chance and do something new—call that Über or Lyft, head to REI for some supplies, and get off the grid. You may never want to leave!
Start off your morning by exploring one of the many hiking trails in Las Vegas. Near Lake Mead, right outside of Boulder City, is the Historic Railroad Trail (nps. gov), an easy 7.5-mile trek (round trip) that follows the old railway that trans-
ported machinery and supplies to Hoover Dam during its construction. Along the path, you’ll pass through five massive tunnels, which helps measure the scope of the dam’s construction and shows how the project was a major feat of engineering. Another great option for easy hiking trails is Lone Mountain Park. There’s a flat-ground desert trail that loops around the tiny mountain and offers great views of the city. But if you’d like to make that view even better, climb to the mountain’s peak.
If you decide to check out either of those hiking areas, remember that the weather may reach warmer digits, so bring a lot of water and don’t forget your sunscreen. If you’d rather not deal with any heat at all Mount Charleston is a much cooler refuge, with temperatures nearly 20 degrees lower than in the valley. It’s home to the popular Mary Jane Falls and Cathedral Rock trails, to name a few, which are a little tougher and rockier than the previously mentioned trails, but the crisp mountain air and stunning scenery— as well as seeing a side of Las Vegas that you probably didn’t know existed—will make it all worth it.
If hiking doesn’t appeal to you, but you still want to observe and enjoy nature, that’s not a problem. The Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve (cityofhenderson.com) is a tranquil place to view resident birds like roadrunners and verdin, as well as nesting American avocets and blacknecked stilts. Go to Floyd Lamb State Park and you might wonder if you’re still in Las Vegas. The small oasis has lush
Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve
Grand Canyon
vegetation, a quaint ranch and a few fishing ponds filled with ducks and geese— you’ll even come across a few peacocks. But if you want to see some nature without leaving your car, take a drive along the 13-mile scenic loop at Red Rock Canyon (redrockcanyonlv.org), where you’ll be able to view unique red rock formations and wide-open desert landscapes. If you feel compelled to leave your car, however, there are several observation points and overlooks where you can stretch your legs, walk around and further explore the canyon.
In speaking of canyons, while it’s not Vegas, the Grand Canyon is too close to not be part of a Southern Nevada experience. If you don’t know where to start, try Grand Canyon West ( grandcanyonwest.com). This massive area offers a one-stop shop of ways to view the Grand Canyon and its surrounding areas, such as walking along the glass-paneled Skywalk or taking a helicopter tour. There’s also a convenient shuttle service that circulates through Guano Point, Eagle Point and Hualapai Ranch, allowing you to explore the West Rim at your own pace.
Lone Mountain Lake Las Vegas
Red Rock Canyon
Standing in the sun for hours while hiking and observing nature could sound unappealing so visitors have the opportunity to enjoy some of Vegas’ watery attractions, to cool off. Take a short drive off the Strip to Lake Las Vegas for the popular Lake Las Vegas Water Sports (lakelasvegaswatersports. com). It’s the total package for fun on the water, with electric boats, kayaks and paddle boards available for rent (reservations highly recommended). Or head a little farther down the road and
you’ll find Lake Mead (nps.gov). It’s one of the nation’s largest man-made lakes, so there’s a lot to explore. Entry to the lake allows you to access relaxing beach areas, including Boulder Beach, and its several marinas, like Lake Mead Marina and Lake Mead Boat Harbor, where you can rent pontoon boats, sports boats and WaveRunners through Boating Lake Mead (boatinglakemead.com). Maybe all that water will remind you of something like the Bellagio Fountains, and you’ll want to head right back to what you came for: that fabulous Las Vegas Strip.
