Pioneer Spirit
Entertainer brings his trailblazing energy to a new high-tech show improvement
Donny Osmond probably wasn’t thinking he’s be a major headliner in Vegas when he was a kid in the ’70s performing in the city with his brother. He met Elvis Presley, but he wasn’t thinking he’d be Elvis one day. He probably didn’t predict he’d have 14 grandchildren, either, or that one of them would become part of his show in a high-tech segment that uses artificial intelligence.
It all just happened that way. Osmond has been on top of the pop music world and experienced career lows that would have permanently crushed the spirit of most performers, but every phase of his life transitioned to the next until his path led to Harrah’s Las Vegas and a show that he gives every ounce of energy to. Life presented him with a second act, and he did not take it for granted.
Osmond freely credits his family and especially wife Debbie for giving him the stability to succeed. In the ’70s, the Osmonds were one of the most famous families in the world, known for harmonies, good genes and great teeth. They were also among the most famous families in Utah with roots tracing back to 19th century Wales, where the Mormon faith had taken root.
“It was my great-great grandfather that came across,” says Osmond. “He wasn’t one of the pioneers or anything like that. Idaho and Wyoming were the places he settled. My dad was born in Wyoming and my mom was born in Idaho.”
Destiny brought George and Olive Osmond together. Donny was the seventh of nine children who would grow up to have a grandson that resembled him enough to serve as his younger self in a new part of the show.
In that sense, Osmond is a pioneer. “I had a conversation not so long ago with Penn Jillette,” says Osmond. “And he says, ‘I hate you.’ And I have a great relationship with Penn. ‘What did I do now?’ He said, ‘I have been trying to find a way to use this technology in my act, and you beat me to it!’” –Matt Kelemen

Flesh Knowledge
Learn something new at this extensive biological exhibit
What’s something you spend every day in, yet rarely see the inside of? Better yet, what do you touch and operate every day without fully understanding its components? It’s your body, of course! After all, we’re all just a bunch of brains controlling very complex fleshy puppets when you really think about it, and the more you ponder your own body, the more wonder you’ll find.
Admittedly, it would be entirely cruel to bring to the forefront of your mind what a marvel the human form is without offering a convenient, educational attraction that might aid you in your newest quest for information. Good thing REAL BODIES at Horseshoe Las Vegas has been giving visitors an extensive look into our anatomy for more than eight years, and continues to provide an informative, scientific look at skin, bone, muscle and everything in between.
Most known for its considerable collection of preserved human remains, this truly groundbreaking exhibit takes you through just about anything you can think of relating to the body, be it straightforward anatomical information, anthropological studies or medical technology. You’ll find about 20 full-
size preserved bodies dissected in various ways to demonstrate lessons about the digestive and respiratory systems, muscular and skeletal structures and much more.
Additionally, more than 200 specimens offer insight into the toll disease takes on the body, the complex webs of veins that move blood throughout the body, and even nerve networks that allow us to feel from inside ourselves and the world around us.
Each preserved sample has undergone the process of polymer preservation—a common practice in which water and soluble fats are removed from the body with acetone and then replaced by liquid polymer.
At this point, it’s possible you’ve thought to yourself, “Whoa!” And honestly, if you have, we can’t blame you. This attraction is not for the faint of heart. Beyond housing many, many, many human specimens, visitors can expect to confront their own mortality. Guests will learn all about the behaviors and habits that reduce the number of years they may get with their body and discover various cultural rituals surrounding the end of one’s life. –Em Jurbala

Sweethands and the Hit Man
Super middleweights highlight an action-packed card
Co-main events usually conclude at the end of fight night, but when Caleb “Sweethands” Plant defends his WBA super middleweight title on the same evening that Jermall “Hit Man” Charlo debuts in the same weight division, it’s the first of at least two chapters. In order to face each other in the second, Plant will have to fend off Armando “Toro” Resendiz, while Charlo has to toast Thomas “Cornflake” LaManna.
Plant promises to put on the best show if his last bout in Las Vegas against Trevor McCumby was any indication. Mc-
Cumby’s cocky strut after pushing Plant to the mat gave way to getting his brains rocked while pinned against the ropes, leading to the ref stopping the fight. In his first defense of his title, Plant fights in his adopted hometown against Mexico’s Resendiz, a hungry underdog who won a TKO in February against Fernando Paliza and boasts an eight-knockout streak in his seven-year professional career.
Then again, Plant boasts a spectacular eighth-round knockout of Anthony Dirrell in 2022 that’s one for the history books. Charlo has made history as being half of
the most successful twin boxing champions along with brother Jermell, but for his next feat he plans to win a belt in his third weight class. LaManna would like to prevent that from happening. Charlo won a decision over Plant’s arch-rival Jose Benavidez Jr. during his last fight in November 2023, which gives Plant extra incentive to make sure he’s still champion if Charlo beats LaManna. –Matt Kelemen

Magic Milestone
This longtime Vegas resident is nowhere near stopping
Time flies when your profession is your passion. For Jen Kramer, it seems like only yesterday she visited Las Vegas for the first time. Now she’s heading toward the 1,000th performance of The Magic of Jen Kramer at Westgate Las Vegas, with her career moving so fast the 10th anniversary of her arrival on the scene passed before she realized it.
“How could I have let a decade go by without throwing a party or something? I don’t know!” she says. “Missed opportunity there … It’s going to be 10 years from now in no time.”
Kramer was preoccupied with being in the moment at her 5 p.m. Westgate Cabaret shows, where her mix of magic and mentalism constantly creates new fans who line up after shows during meet-and-greets to share their enthusiasm about her signature quick-change trick illusion early in the performance and her new climactic trick.
The latter is the latest creation made possible by maintaining a fertile imagination.
“That flow state is so real,” she says. “Sometimes when you’re exploring a different realm of magic like with the new finale that we’re
doing in the show—it’s more grand illusion style—your brain starts thinking, ‘How can I apply this idea or that idea?’”
Not that Kramer is going to retire her oeuvre of card tricks, but an evolution into grand illusions would be a natural next step. She’s a veteran of the Strip’s magic scene now. The tricks she brought to Westgate Cabaret are increasingly enhanced by the possibilities she’s able to visualize based on the venue’s dimensions and capabilities.
“We wanted to do something big for the finale, so I’m making a big, sparkly purple motorcycle appear onstage,” she says. “It’s an absolute blast. It’s something very different than the material throughout the rest of the show, and that was part of the appeal of it for me, doing something that felt like a stretch and providing variety.”
It’s also the next step in Kramer’s goal of creating human connection through magic. “It’s all about making people feel like they’re 5 years old again, looking through that lens of wonder,” she says. –Matt Kelemen

Surf’s Up!
Poolside attraction is built for riding ocean-like waves
Rip it and ride it, bro! Riding waves is possible right smack-dab in the middle of the desert thanks to the technology of FlowRider
Located up on Planet Hollywood’s expansive rooftop pool deck, FlowRider is a watery attraction that pumps out machine-made waves using a special waveform technology that surprisingly mimics the motion of real ocean waves.
Guests can hang ten the classic surf-style way or bodyboard-style. What about wiping out?! No worries, as the
FlowRider is built with a special surface to help absorb impacts. There is also an instructor on hand for every ride to help guide surfers, be it newbies or pros.
While FlowRider is open to the whole family, there are some guidelines: First, you must be able to swim; second, you must be 42 inches to ride bodyboard-style and 48 inches to surf standing up. FlowRider starts at $34.99 per person, and that includes a 30-minute session, so you have the chance to ride waves multiple times; or you can
purchase an all-day pass should you wipe out your first few times!
After finishing up your day of surfing, enjoy the pool deck’s many amenities, including daybed and cabana rentals that surround two sparkling pools (one that is family friendly and one open to adults only), two hot tubs and two bars. Food can be ordered and delivered using your phone with options coming from Planet Hollywood restaurants. –Kiko Miyasato
Creating Memories
Downtown restaurant excels at making you feel special
You don’t just get an unforgettable meal at Barry’s Downtown Prime. You get an evening of memories to take home with you and share with all your friends and family, an aspect the restaurant’s head chef, Barry Dakake, takes great care to guarantee.
The room itself is the definition of memorable; it’s at the bottom of an escalator, making it feel exclusive. And once you enter through the doors, the staff make you feel like you’re the only person in the place. It only gets better
from there. If you order a Manhattan or Old-Fashioned from the drink cart, a mixologist comes over and makes it right in front of you. Get your camera set to “video” and enjoy some of the best versions of these classics anywhere in town.
After appetizers like lobster potato pierogis, crispy calamari and Philly cheesesteak egg rolls, dive right into mains like fire chicken, flavored with sliced Fresno chili, jalapeños and a lemon-rosemary jus, and Colorado
lamb chops with a Parmesan/pine nut crust and rosemary red wine sauce, pictured. Steak choices range from wet-aged filet mignon and rib cap to boneless ribeye and New York strip Tasmanian wagyu.
Finish your meal with desserts like banana cream pie or Tahitian baked Alaska with chocolate, pistachio and strawberry ice cream. –Ken Miller

Derek Crow
Bar lead leads the way in the cocktail industry
One never knows where life will lead and what one can accomplish out in the world. Meet Derek Crow. From a small town in Wyoming, he became one of the most well-known and respected mixologists in Las Vegas, currently working as the bar lead at Bar Zazu and next-door Brezza at Resorts World Las Vegas.
“I had zero interest in bartending, believe it or not,” Crow says. But when the bartender at the restaurant he was working at in Casper, Wyo., called out and
he filled in, well, that was it. He spent his 20s bartending and decided he wanted to swim in a bigger pond, so he made the move to Vegas and hit the jackpot. Crow has been mentored by the top mixologists like Mariena Mercer Boarini and Tony Abou-Ganim and, today, more than a decade later, he has become a mentor to a new generation of bartenders.
“Not knowing where the ceiling is and how far you can take it, that’s what I love,” he says. Not only has Crow created

impressive cocktail programs all over the city, and for the past three and a half years at Bar Zazu and Brezza, he also helps build cocktail menus around the country through his LLC.
“I’m an open book to the future,” he says. “I came from a small town and now I get to work in a great city with great people including guests and the bartenders I’ve mentored. When it comes to my career, I have zero regrets and am excited about the future.” –Kiko Miyasato

At Orla, experience a celebrity chef’s heritage through his delicious dishes
Whether dinner is the end of a fabulous day on vacation or an opener to a great night out, it’s worthwhile to ensure your meal is nothing short of exceptional. And if exceptional is what you seek, look no further than Michael Mina’s Orla at Mandalay Bay.
This beautifully appointed dining room, filled with peaceful dark blue hues, textured, cream-colored accent walls and artistically displayed vessels, sets the scene for a delicious and inspired meal. Paying homage to the chef’s Egyptian heritage and celebrating all kinds of Middle Eastern flavors, this menu features elevated takes on many Mediterranean favorites as well as some delicious dishes you may not have heard of but are sure to love. It would be almost sacrilegious to not start with the whipped chickpea hummus
that comes with pillowy, warm pita, but if you’d like to add a little pizzazz to your mezze, order the Breads, Spreads, Pickles. You’ll be delighted to receive an assortment of warm breads with irresistible tzatziki, roasted eggplant dip and turmeric butter, complemented by a variety of sweet pickled veggies, including cauliflower, carrots and celery. Start with a bit of seafood when you order the marinated big eye tuna, which is served on a crispy falafel with whipped tahini and urfa spicy cucumber. Or for something a little lighter, try the hamachi
mandalaybay.mgmresorts.com
crudo with persimmon, cara cara orange and chili crunch.
When it comes to mains, there’s no bad choice. From the sea, the tomato-ginger glazed salmon with saffron couscous, dill yogurt and blistered cherry tomatoes packs so much to savor, while the Alexandria-style beer-battered fish and chips offers something flavorful and familiar. If you prefer proteins from the land, have the absolutely delectable roasted lemon chicken. Served with lemon potatoes, Fresno chilies, feta and mint, this dish, with
its creamy lemon sauce, is easily one of the yummiest poultry dishes this writer has ever tasted. Meat lovers will appreciate the black harissa-grilled lamb chops and the spice-rubbed New York strip, each satisfying and complemented by its own lovely accoutrements.
Sharing is caring at this fine establishment, so consider a family-style kebab platter with filet mignon, kofta, chicken dolmas, tangerine labneh and smoked eggplant dip. For a tableside experience, order the salt-baked sea bream, served with summer squash and oregano vinaigrette.
Don’t skip the drink menu here, either. Orla has an award-winning wine list curated by lead sommelier Jeff Chow, who will gladly help you select the perfect sip. Also, the house cocktail menu features inventive libations like the Rio Spritz (pictured alone, left), a mixture of Aperol, elderflower, passion fruit, prosecco and soda, served in a porron.
What’s dinner without dessert? Order coffee service and dig your spoon into the scrumptious rice pudding. Topped with a Ceylon cinnamon crisp, this cool, creamy dessert is plenty to share between two. If you’d prefer a baked sweet, try the lemon olive oil semolina cake. This moist, slightly dense dessert is made bright by citrus flavors and seasonal fruit, while the olive oil balances the sweetness.

Janet Jackson returns to the Strip after going viral with a blast from the past
Social media algorithms have been very good to Janet Jackson lately. Jackson’s 2001 song “Someone to Call My Lover” gained traction on TikTok after becoming a go-to soundtrack for animal-lover clips and viral dance shorts. It placed her back on Billboard charts, and is her most popular song on Apple Music and Spotify as she returns to Las Vegas this month for the second round of Janet Jackson: Las Vegas
The buoyant single about being free to play the field after ending a relationship wasn’t part of her residency sets earlier this year, but
the headlines it made recently for going viral may be enough to add it to the more than 40 songs she already performs. It was part of her Together Again Tour last year, so the band and dancers already know what to do.
Not that her shows are lacking without the buoyant pop gem. It’s just a safe prediction that the familiar blend of acoustic guitar ri from America’s “Ventura Highway” and melody of Erik Satie’s “Gymnopédie No. 1” would draw a burst of enthusiasm from longtime fans and new rounds of uploads from TikTok influencers.
Jackson grew up being an influencer. Her fan base took root long before there was social media, when she and brother Randy opened for The Jackson 5 before concerts and appeared on The Carol Burnett Show to sing Sonny & Cher’s “The Beat Goes On.” Jackson was more interested
in singing than acting, though, developing a Mae West impression that she brought to television when she starred in ’70s sitcom Good Times
In her teens, she was Charlene on Di ’rent Strokes, then had a role on the television adaptation of Fame. The two pop albums she recorded before 1986’s Control lacked the production methods Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis would apply to groundbreaking hits such as “What Have You Done for Me Lately” and “Nasty.” Billboard ’s Top 10 singles chart would be a familiar place for her from then on.
Control, much like “Someone to Call My Lover,” came at a time of emancipation for Jackson. She had ended her fi rst marriage and her managerial relationship with her father, subsequently cultivating a public image of independence and self-assurance. She became a fashion icon
as well, influencing the MTV generation through videos for “When I Think of You” and “Rhythm Nation.”
Jackson’s influence on subsequent generations of entertainers is so prevalent it’s hard to imagine what music would have been like without her. The sounds she created with Jam and Lewis, the choreography standards for videos she developed with Paula Abdul and her autobiographical songwriting has a ected everyone from Britney Spears and the Backstreet Boys to Beyoncé and Taylor Swift. By the time she takes the stage in Las Vegas again, she will have just turned 59. She’s still the Queen of Pop, still an influencer, still capable of generating excitement via the most popular media form of the day. And the full-time mom still has the energy to thrill fans with marathon concerts, so she does.
It’s literally a cool experience at all three Minus5 Icebar locations
of wearing a parka or faux fur coat and gloves. Stepping inside any of the Icebars is such a cool experience (yes, literally and figuratively!) as you’ll spot all manner of ice (90 tons of it!) from the walls and seating to the sculpture and glassware. The company procures the clearest ice possible, created by a special process that removes all air bubbles, and all the ice sculptures start o as 250-pound blocks of ice that are then carved by professional ice carvers. Return visits are a must, as all three locations refresh the sculptures and themes quarterly.
Each Minus5 Icebar is designed with playful sculptures and interactive scenes; gloves will be hard to keep on because you’ll constantly want to conduct photo shoots so the folks back home can check out such a cool Las Vegas experience. Fun for the whole family is welcome from opening till 9 p.m.; after 9 p.m. each location is 21+.
“There is no time limit at Icebar, and
we often see guests vying for longest stay, but I’d say our average guests enjoy the Icebar for 45 minutes to an hour,” says Blake Nightingale, Minus5 Icebar general manager and marketing director. “We provide all the gear to keep you warm, as well as keep each bar full of so many ways to engage and entertain within the experience, that many don’t realize just how long they’ve lasted. … Our founder discovered the concept cruising around the globe and instantly knew that Las Vegas was the perfect place to literally bring the coolest bar to the Strip! Our goal is to bring a truly unique and immersive experience to Las Vegas with unbeatable hospitality and great value. I believe we should be on everyone’s itinerary because we accomplish all that in the coolest and freshest way we know how!”

This location is the longest running of all three locations, opened in 2008.
Winter’s coming! OK, so it’s always winter inside all three Minus5 Icebar locations—The Linq Promenade, The Grand Canal Shoppes at The Venetian and The Shoppes at Mandalay Place. It’s freezing, the temps kept at 23 degrees Fahrenheit, but it’s totally fun. As your nose slowly turns cold, you’ll warm your body with cocktails, and the fact that admission includes your choice

When you fi rst walk in, you’ll discover an ode to the Arctic, with pictures set in ice of animals and scenery native to that part of the world. As you explore, check out the re-creation of the Zoltar Speaks game, made completely of ice, from the movie Big. There is a section tucked away that takes guests under the sea with floating jellyfi sh everywhere. There is a Viking ship you can sit in, decorated with Viking swords and flags. Take a pic while sitting on a throne
Each location has a unique bundle experience that really builds in value to experience all three Icebars. Combine an ice experience with a yacht rock show at The Grand Canal Shoppes at The Venetian or with The Booze Cruise cocktail experience at The Linq Promenade. The Fire and Ice Package gets you an Icebar experience, access to 1923
made of ice with a giant bear carved into it. And the coolest feature of this Icebar is the new vintage arcade section with images of old-school games, Nintendo controllers and an actual video arcade machine set in ice, on which you can play games like Pac-Man, Space Invaders and Dig Dug.
Our cocktail pick: Frosted Berries, a light and fruity cocktail made with Skyy vodka, peach schnapps and white cranberry juice.
Prohibition Bar and daiquiri cocktails, as well as a couple of take-home souvenirs. Recently launched is the “Ultimate Polar Passport.” The biggest bundle available gets you three experiences and three cocktails! It includes entry into all three Icebars, as well as a pass to Dreambox360 and the High Roller observation wheel at The Linq Promenade.
MINUS5 ICEBAR AT THE LINQ PROMENADE (702.586.8925)
The largest of all three locations, this Minus5 Icebar has a ton of cool activations. The minute you walk in, you’ll be greeted by a very Vegas-y display with slot machines made of ice and a roulette wheel and cards set in ice. Any fans of horror movies? Don’t skip taking photos with the ice display dedicated to horror movies with ice carvings of characters like Pennywise and Leatherface. Fans of music festivals? Check out the DJ booth and speakers set in ice, trippy rave-like graphics and a TV displaying videos of festivals from around the globe. The mock fi replace with a giant tiki head made of ice is perfect for a group shot and check-in for your mission to Mars, with space-inspired ice carvings including a huge spaceship. A bonus of this Icebar is its lounge-like space right outside along the Promenade, perfect for people-watching and enjoying another cocktail.
Our cocktail pick: Arctic Sunset, a fruity punch of Bacardi dragon berry rum, pineapple juice, lemon lime soda and a grenadine float.
The Minus5 Icebars at The Shoppes at Mandalay Place and The Grand Canal Shoppes at The Venetian are linked to 1923 Prohibition Bar, and Minus5 Icebar at The Linq Promenade is connected to DreamBox360, an immersive projection experience cocktail room.

MINUS5 ICEBAR AT THE GRAND CANAL SHOPPES AT THE VENETIAN (702.293.3388)
Any Kenny Chesney fans? The coun-
try superstar begins his highly anticipated residency at neighboring Sphere this week, and in honor of the occasion, Minus5 Icebar recently carved out a
section made of ice dedicated to the music star and his spirit brand, Blue Chair Bay rum. The section is Chesney vibes, with beach-inspired surroundings like Adirondack chairs, palm trees and sur oards and one of the coolest ice sculptures, an ocean wave with ocean spray. Another new feature is the 1923 Speakeasy Lounge. Sneak past the red curtains of ice and hang out inside this li’l speakeasy with whiskey and gin bottles and vintage photos, all set within ice. Don’t miss the corner dedicated to Japan with a full-size ice samurai, the ode to Krylon spray paint with gra ti painted in the ice, a throne with a shark head carved into it and the dedication to Vegas’ Atomic Age in conjunction with the Atomic Museum, with photos of atomic bomb blasts, gas masks and more, all set within ice.
Our cocktail pick: Ice in da Coconut, in honor of Chesney, made with Blue Chair Bay rum, lime juice and lemon lime soda.

Every time that little smile spreads across your face, or you get that warm, fuzzy feeling, that is your brain releasing dopamine into the body. Ahhh, dopamine, nature’s ecstasy! And as humans we seek out ways in the world to activate our brain to release more and more of it.
Now, what if there was a place you could go to trigger hit after hit of dopamine?

There is—thanks to the creative genius of intellectual property company Superplastic. Head to AREA15 and visit the arts and entertainment district’s newest tenant, Superplastic’s Dopeameme Institute for Pleasure Research (D.I.P.R.).
“There is no more perfect place for us than to be at AREA15,” says Superplas-
In the same vein as Disney or Marvel, Superplastic designs and creates characters and content to share with audiences, especially those on social media like TikTok, YouTube and Instagram. That content has gone viral and triggered a slew of artistic collaborations with stars like Post Malone and Paris Hilton and brands like Gucci, Fortnite and Tommy Hilfiger. Superplastic’s world of characters has been turned into collectible toys and fashionable
So, just what is this D.I.P.R. experience? Simply put, it’s a walk-through, story-driven immersive adventure where the most wellknown characters from Superplastic, like Janky, Dayzee and Guggimon, guide visitors through a series of rooms that will elicit dopamine hits to the body through interactive
experiences. If you put your science hat on, you’ll remember that the body produces dopamine through activities like exercise and dancing, and at D.I.P.R. you’ll get to do both in rooms like “Heavy Pedal,” a laundromat-themed space where you’ll pedal on a stationary bike, or the “Private Dancer” room, a space that looks like an o ce building bathroom where you’ll step into your own stall and dance like no one is watching. Inside these rooms, you’ll also be taken through a series of tests guided by Superplastic characters that comically reveal their warped, twisted sense of humor. Besides the rooms, there are a ton of di erent activations and Easter eggs that help deliver a rush of dopamine to visitors as they make their way through the

Outside of the ticketed attraction is The Dopeameme

prepares to take his final Vegas bow (for now) with ‘The Encore Shows’
By Matt Kelemen
Rod Stewart may be reaching the end of the road as far as extensive world tours and his Caesars Palace residency, but he’s hardly done performing. Once he’s wrapped his 2025 One Last Time dates, Stewart will likely indulge his interest in swing music with select live dates in the U.K. The Scottish singer will keep up with Glasgow’s Celtic Football Club as much as he can and relax at his local pub, then he’ll get the singing itch again that’s best scratched in Vegas.
Stewart’s run at Caesars was supposed to end last year, but he added an encore set of dates that extended his residency through his 80th birthday. He wasn’t ready to let go of performing at the Colosseum or its martini-fueled after-parties. Stewart, whose Wolfie’s Whisky distillery bottles Scotch on the banks of Loch Lomond, still likes to hoist a few when he’s not training to beat world sprinting records for his age group.
And he still relishes life as much as he did when he fronted good-time rock band Faces, or was fi rst grabbed by the music of Muddy Waters and Sam Cooke as a budding vocalist. The former had grit and gravitas, while the latter’s versatility enabled him to appeal to wide and diverse audiences. Stewart borrowed from both and became a dynamic stage persona whose passionate voice lent itself well to a variety of musical styles.
Stewart paid homage to Cooke and Waters at some of his most recent shows of his Colosseum residency, respectively, with covers of “Having a Party” and Waters’ “Rollin’ and Tumblin’.” He applied his signature
rasp to renditions of Bonnie Tyler’s “It’s a Heartache” and Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Have You Ever Seen the Rain” before venturing into more audience-familiar territory with Cat Stevens’ “The First Cut Is the Deepest” and Crazy Horse’s “I Don’t Want to Talk About It.”
There are plenty of hits. Stewart opened shows with “Infatuation” and delivered ’70s classic “Maggie May” and ’80s classic “Young Turks,” but much of his sets were devoted to songs he breathed new life into. Van Morrison certainly doesn’t mind royalties Stewart’s recording of “Have I Told You Lately” garnered, and Tom Waits gets points every time “Downtown Train” plays through the Colosseum’s sound system.
History will depict Stewart as one of the rock era’s great song interpreters, along with contemporaries such as the late Joe Cocker and retired Linda Ronstadt. Stewart is as e ervescent as ever, but he knows everyone’s time on the third planet from the sun is limited. As long as his body and voice hold out, he’ll keep taking the stage.
Meanwhile, Stewart, who will play the “teatime legend” slot at this summer’s Glastonbury Festival, will continue to enjoy a life fi lled with making headlines for meeting superfans who have followed him for seven decades, boosting Celtic F.C. and making time for swing with collaborator Jools Holland. His days of large-scale touring may come to an end, but he’s not quite ready to stop playing Faces songs live, at least in Las Vegas.

The Cabinet of Curiosities calls all drinkers to explore its extraordinary offerings
With so many quality options in Las Vegas in practically every category of discretionary spending, it’s hard to find things to do that are truly unique. Enter The Cabinet of Curiosities at Horseshoe Las Vegas. The 21-and-over-venue combines drinking and immersive entertainment, making the experience curiouser and curiouser. Brought to life by Imagine Exhibitions—a company with a huge portfolio of creating traveling and permanent exhibitions and attractions that allow guests to be transported to different worlds of wonder—The Cabinet of Curiosities captures the imagination and the thirst for tasty cocktails the minute you slip through the glass doors.
Guests will be enveloped in a bar and lounge that exudes dark, Gothic and alluring vibes, decorated with a mashup of Victorian and bohemian furnishings. Here, the word is “explore” in both content and cocktails. Start with the many interesting-looking pieces inside
the many curio cabinets placed throughout the space. Each piece is assigned a number, and you can find out its name and story by scanning a QR code with your phone. Look up No. 4381, the Mystical Typewriter, where folklore claims a tale composed with this typewriter will make its author famous but with some irksome caveats. Or how about No. 6641, the Copper Watering Can, once owned by Lucretia Spatz, who used it to water her prize-wining begonias, but the neighbors had no idea what she was grinding up in her basement to use as fertilizer. There’s also No. 8251, the Dancing Squid, once belonging to the breeders of competitive show-jumping squids. There are so many more eye-catching and strange tchotchkes to explore, and we suggest before adventuring on that you pay a visit to the bar, where the mixologists are serving up an abundance of incredible cocktails.
The Cabinet of Curiosities has garnered a reputation for its stellar

Festival of Lights
It’s Cocktails 101 inside The Lock as the speakeasy and The Cabinet of Curiosities o ers a mixology masterclass several times throughout each month (this week includes May 25 and 29-31). Running the class is master mixologist Daniel Ponsky, a man overflowing with knowledge when it comes to all things spirits and cocktails, and he’s more than happy to share that knowledge. “The best part of this class is that at the end of the day you’re going to learn a little something about making cocktails,” says Ponsky.
You’ll fill your brain with tons of cocktail factoids. You’ll learn some history about spirits and cocktails, how to stir a drink so you don’t bruise the alcohol, the di erence in the types of ice, how to properly shake and pour a cocktail, what the di erence is between juices, syrups and elixirs, how to activate the sugars in dehydrated fruit resulting in more caramelly flavors ... the list goes on and on.
You’ll also get to craft three di erent cocktails, like the Apricot Manhattan, with all the tools provided. On the bar a cornucopia of spirits, mixers, garnishes, syrups, bitters, tonics, fruits, spices and juices wait for your own creativity, as the third cocktail will be a buildyour-own recipe.
cocktail program, both at the main bar and The Lock (more on that later). Might we o er our suggestions to get you started? Check out the signature cocktails, beginning with the Peachtree Sweet Tea, a great cocktail to kick o what will no doubt be the first of many orders. Be careful, though—it’ll get you feelin’ fine in no time with its blend of gin, rum, vodka, peach liqueur, yuzu and sweet tea (think a dressed-up Long Island Iced Tea).
If it’s early and you’re still yearning for another co ee to give you more pep, try the Flea Market Martini, a totally delicious mix of vanilla vodka, co ee liqueur, fresh-brewed co ee, sweetened condensed milk and cinnamon fire syrup.

juice, coconut purée, passion fruit liqueur and ginger beer. And for lovers of spirit-forward cocktails, the Festival of Lights has been a mainstay on the menu for its smooth and bold mix of bourbon, vermouth, orangecello, lime and honey syrup.
Wines and beer on draft and in bottles, a mocktail menu, top-shelf spirits and a happy hour menu (1-6 p.m. daily) help round out the offerings at The Cabinet of Curiosities. But if you’re itching for a next-level cocktail journey, make a reservation for the bar and lounge’s speakeasy, The Lock.
lemon juice and hibiscus syrup, and the Key to My Pink Heart (one of this writer’s fave cocktails on the Strip!) with rum, crème de almond, crème de cocoa and oatmilk is one cocktail to write home about.

You can’t miss the entrance to The Lock—it’s that big door that looks like the entrance to a bank vault. But can you get inside? You’ll have to pick up the phone and see if someone answers, after which you’ll have to go through a series of riddles once you make it inside the antechamber. But it’s all worth it once you step inside the space. You’re immediately transported to the Prohibition era, as the intimate room is decorated in period pieces and throwback tunes flow through the air. (Secret: There’s a speakeasy inside the speakeasy!)
The Lock serves up its own menu of Prohibition-era cocktails, but a bonus here is getting to build your own cocktail based on your preferences; you fill out a little card for the bartender to gauge your likes, tastes and personality. The menu here changes often, but inquire about two favorites we had on our last visit. The Smoke and Mirrors is the perfect sipping cocktail with tequila, mezcal, violet flower liqueur,
And on May 2931, The Cabinet of Curiosities invites guests to a special eventProhibition Cocktails: Crafting Classic Libations From the Speakeasy Days.
