The Show Goes On
He may be embarking on a farewell tour, but this entertainer is far from finished with Las Vegas
Barry Manilow might have a lifetime residency commitment from his Las Vegas host property Westgate Las Vegas, but the 81-year-old entertainer recently announced that he’s embarking on a tour of the United States that’s being dubbed The Last Concerts
The showman who brought the world classics like “I Write the Songs,” “Weekend in New England,” “Looks Like We Made It” and “Mandy,” begins his arena tour in late May of cities like Pittsburgh, Seattle, Detroit and Philadelphia, culminating in a performance in Sacramento on July 19. Once he’s finished, he’s theoretically done with touring.
“I couldn’t be more thrilled to visit these great cities of which I have so many fond memories,” Manilow said in a statement. “Each one is special to my touring history.”
What that means is that, as of August, if you want to see Barry Manilow perform, you gotta come to Vegas. And if you haven’t yet seen his Vegas show, you gotta do it. It’s not hyperbole to say it’s one of the best current residencies this city has to offer. The man is no spring chicken,
but once he hits that stage and hits high notes on songs like “I Made It Through the Rain” while strutting the stage and rarely standing still, you’d never know it.
There’s another special reason to see Manilow now: Every single Vegas performance is history in the making. He broke Elvis Presley’s record of 636 performances in the International Showroom last year, so each show just adds to what’s already a precedent-setting show. Manilow credits a big part of the run to the showroom itself. “The Westgate is the perfect room for me,” he said in an exclusive interview with Las Vegas Magazine. “Out of all the rooms that I’ve ever played, this is the one for me. If I was building one for myself, this is the size that I would have built.”
A huge part of his Vegas shows is the Fanilow contingent. To be in a crowd with his biggest fans is to truly feel like part of a huge family, with Manilow saying things to the crowd like, “Let’s close the doors and order a pizza!” –Ken Miller Westgate Las Vegas, 5+.

Seeing is Believing
Entertainer’s latest addition to his residency will have fans doing a double take
Donny Osmond has some favorite segments during his headlining show on the Las Vegas Strip. There’s the “Donny Rap,” the “Request Segment,” and the climactic part of the performance when inflated, blinking Donny Balls are pitched into the audience for celebratory volleying. The latest addition incorporates artificial intelligence, images of him at age 14 and his grandson to make something magical happen: Osmond duetting with his youthful “Puppy Love”-era self.
“That’s becoming another anchor point to the show,” says Osmond. “People have heard about it. They’ve read about it. They see it on YouTube and in interviews I’ve done. Then when that curtain opens up and you see this three-dimensional character that’s me 53 years ago … I hear the ‘oohs’ and ‘aahs’ coming from the audience.”
Two years in the making, Avatar Donny is a high-tech combination of Osmond’s face as it looked more than a half-century ago and his grandson Daxton, dressed as his grandfather did in the early ’70s when he was frequently featured on covers of teen idol magazines such as Tiger Beat. He’s even wearing a cap that was a trademark back in the day.
“When I’m looking into the eyes of myself, 53 years ago, can you imagine how strange that is? I’m looking in the mirror 53 years ago,” says Osmond.
Osmond road tested the segment on tours years ago before his solo residency, which he was not able to do with Avatar Donny. “I first saw it in January, when we were recording in New York in a place called ZeroSpace,” says Osmond. “When I first saw a rough export of my face next to his face, it freaked me out … You can only imagine what that felt like.”
It freaked out fans too, some of whom attended a special Tiger Beat Magazine Preshow VIP Celebration in March, featuring a Q&A with editor Ann Moses. Osmond has come full circle since trying to ditch his old image and can now embrace every era of his career. –Matt Kelemen

Ain’t No Party Like a Jedi Party
‘Star Wars’-themed event promises endless entertainment for fans
The impact of the Star Wars movies cannot be underestimated. Its fans are arguably the most ardent in the world, rivaled perhaps by only Trekkies. They look for any excuse to dress up as their favorite character, be it a movie premiere, trivia night or convention. And this week in Las Vegas offers one of the best possible reasons to be one with the force: Mosh Eisley, a party featuring so many cool, fun elements that you may never want it to end.
The themed party at House of Blues, a fun play on the “wretched hive of scum and villainy” Mos Eisley from A New Hope, beckons Star Wars fans of every stripe to become part of a mosh pit of light sabers and blasters while music and a light show transports them to a galaxy far, far away.
The one-of-a-kind event features live bands delivering early-2000s punk rock and emo, delivering a sound that will have fans dressed as Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Princess Leia, a Sith lord, droid or Imperial Officer dancing long into the night.
So turn off that Star Wars movie you’re streaming for the 100th time, get your Darth Vader costume out of the closet and order your tickets now! Do or do not—there is no try. –Ken Miller

Need advice on wine? The experts are here to help
Need help in choosing the right wine when dining out at that fancy Strip restaurant? No problem! Las Vegas Magazine ’s Ken Miller enlisted the aid of two of the Strip’s top wine experts, Dylan Amos, wine director at Delmonico Steakhouse at The Venetian, and Louis Hamilton , sommelier at Emeril’s New Orleans Fish House at MGM Grand, to answer some burning questions wine newbies might have. Have fun—and drink responsibly!
What are the best red and best white recommendations for wine newbies?
Hamilton: Chardonnay is a great white to start with as it’s not overly assertive and usually has a hint of oak, which imbibes a hint of brown spices. Pinot noir from California or Burgundy is wonderful as a first red wine because the tannin levels are usually more aligned with being smoother and elegant.
Amos: For both of these, I’m suggesting wines that won’t break the bank but are serious as well. Try the delightful white blend from Albert Boxler Edelzwicker Réserve. Crafted from grand cru pinot gris and riesling (and a few other grapes), this white from Alsace is balanced, bright and yummy. It’s
approachable for the newbie and has the sophistication for your more experienced friends. You really can’t beat Oregon for quality at all price points. Failla Willamette Valley pinot noir is bursting with red fruits and subtle spices and florals with a soft, easygoing finish.
What wine should you pair with steak?
Hamilton: A full-bodied syrah from Cornas or Walla Walla is a perfect steak pairing due to its bold structure, dark berry fruit and signature white pepper notes. Both wines have the acidity and spice to enhance the steak’s richness while balancing its char and seasoning.
Amos: At Delmonico, our go-to wine to pair with all of our steaks is the 2020 Chateau Palmer Alter Ego. The quality of tannin matches our seasoning, the minerality pairs with the dry aging, and the elegance and structure match our A5 Japanese wagyu. It’s a win/win all around.
Wine varies so much in price. What’s a great cheap, mid-price and expensive wine?
Hamilton: For an inexpensive wine, try Côtes du Rhône or Gamay Beaujo-
&A
lais. For a mid-price wine, I like to venture into Spanish Priorat and Rhônestyle blends from Paso Robles. For an expensive wine, try 1er cru Burgundy (I like Volnay and Chambertin) or older Super Tuscan wines from Italy.
Amos: For an inexpensive wine, Portuguese whites. The bang for your buck in this category is unbelievable. We work with Luis Seabra Xisto Ilimitado, and it drinks like it costs two to three times its price. For a mid-price wine, we work with a Napa Valley cabernet called Band of Vintners. It’s masterminded by master sommelier Desmond Echavarrie and fills a gap that has been abandoned—a quality Napa cabernet that can be drunk every day. For an expensive wine, Bartolo Mascarello Barolo. An old-school stalwart that believes in blending to make the best wine every year. A masterclass in winemaking with unbelievable quality and aging potential.
Other than your respective restaurants, what are some hot spots on the Strip for wine?
Hamilton: We enjoy La Cave at Wynn for its ambience and amazing selections. Also, Hugo’s Cellar offers a taste of old Vegas flair inside Four Queens.
Amos: Wally’s Wine & Spirits at Resorts World Las Vegas has … everything.

To a Tea
Even if you’ve never raised a pinky with the special lady in your life, it’s something she’s sure to enjoy. For a traditional tea service, make a reservation at Waldorf Astoria’s 23rd floor tea lounge, Peacock Alley, for afternoon tea. The beautifully appointed room feels uplifting and airy as it’s drenched in natural light beaming in through the floor-to-ceiling windows. Those windows provide one of the best views of the Strip.
This soothing spot offers a vast collection of green, black and herbal teas. Try
The Meadows, a signature blend flavored with lemongrass, linden flower and natural lemon for an easy-to-drink, slightly sweet and floral blend. You can even imbibe delicious “Tea-tails” like the Mary Poppins, made with chamomile-infused cachaça, Lillet Blanc, elderflower liqueur and sage honey. If flowery flavors aren’t your fancy, try the Eliza Doolittle, made with Tanqueray, blueberry tea syrup, amaretto, champagne and lemon.
Snack on delightful warm scones with lemon curd, raspberry jam and clotted
cream before diving into some exquisite finger sandwiches and desserts. The egg salad bite comes almost like a cream puff, but savory and topped with caviar, while the smoked salmon and cucumber stack on pumpernickel conjures bagel and lox vibes, but with herbaceous dill and chive Boursin. For dessert, look forward to lavender blueberry macarons and a uniquely flavored strawberry basil petit choux. –Em Jurbala
Cool Pool
This megacomplex has everything you need to have a great day in the sun
Stadium Swim at Circa Resort & Casino is truly unlike any other destination in Las Vegas.
It’s a:
• Pool. And not just one! Enjoy six different pools, perfect for cooling down while you sip cocktails and watch the game. And don’t miss the swim-up bars.
• Sports-viewing haven. We bet you haven’t watched your favorite team on a massive, 40-foot-tall, high-definition screen with 14 million pixels! Stadium Swim is the spot to catch a game. It is also a premier place
to catch all UFC PPV fights.
• Bar and restaurant. You never have to leave the venue if you’re hungry or thirsty. Stadium Swim offers a nice selection of signature cocktails like the Kentucky Tea, Orange Dreamsicle, Watermelon Wings, Jalisco Heat Wave, Ace Paloma, Bloody Maria and Barbados Blitz. You can also munch on a bevy of dishes including lobster corn dogs, nacho platter, Impossible sliders, chopped Cobb salad, crispy chicken Caesar wrap, breakfast burrito, charcuterie boards, fruit platters, shrimp cock-
tail, beef sliders and much more.
“(Stadium Swim) is definitely different,” said director EJ Stagner. “I think it provides not only downtown but Las Vegas in general a great place for locals and tourists. It really gives you the best of both worlds—if you just want to come for the pool party and experience that or for sports fans this is really the only place in Vegas, in the country, to really experience watching your team.” –Kiko Miyasato

’Tis the Season
Dayclubs are open for partying business for those 21+
It’s that time of year, folks! Vegas is popping off once again with the arrival of pool season, and it’s time to bring the nightlife party into the daylife realm. No other dayclubs do it better than the following hot spots. Pick your vibes, favorite DJs and performers and get ready to have some fun under the sun. Do you love that Southeast Asia vibe, that island Thailand vibe? Tao Beach Dayclub at The Venetian has long been a staple of daylife, and a few years ago when they upped the ante
with a complete redesign, the party and atmosphere got even better. The massive, 47,000-square-foot space offers lush greenery, intricate woodwork, a chic bohemian aesthetic and a big stage surrounded by cutting-edge technology. On the roster this season are Tiësto, Zedd, Steve Aoki and more, and this week catch Lil Jon with a special Cinco de Mayo set on May 4, Lavern on May 9 and DJ Pauly D on May 10.
When DJ Kygo and producer Myles Shear are behind the party, you know
it’s gonna be a bomb time. The duo and their live events and hospitality company Palm Tree Crew have decided to open their own dayclub, Palm Tree Beach Club, in conjunction with Tao Group Hospitality, at MGM Grand. The space has taken over the old Wet Republic club and received a complete overhaul, so now the venue is reminiscent of that peach, pink and green, Palm Beach, Miami vibe. Signature cocktails, massive VIP bungalows, plenty of cabanas and daybeds, a top-tier audio-visual system and a ground-level stage create the perfect setting for bigname DJs, including this week’s grand opening party on May 4 with Zedd and Steve Aoki, DJ Shift on May 9 and Aoki again on May 10.
Ayu Dayclub
Resorts World Las Vegas has carved out a slice of intimate, dayclub heaven with Ayu Dayclub. The idyllic island vibes of Asia have popped up at the property, and the two-level dayclub with tons of different-sized cabanas and daybeds dotted along paths filled with towering palm trees and lush greenery set the scene for an awesome roster of both DJs and musical artists like Nelly, who performs May 4, DJ Flight on May 9 and James Hype on May 10. This season also welcomes stars like Illenium, Kaskade, Snoop Dogg and T-Pain.
Over at Mandalay Bay, one of the longest-running dayclubs, Daylight Beach Club, is still going strong because of its mix of upscale Mediterranean-inspired surroundings, huge pool and ginormous stage for live music. VIP bungalows with private dipping pools surround the main pool that faces the stage set for performances by a mix of hip-hop artists and EDM DJs. Hip-hop artists take over every Sunday for LIT Sundays with DJ J-Nice, DJ Romero and 112 on May 4, DJ Joseph Gettright performs his blend of musical mashups on May 8-9 and the special Soaked Saturday parties with high-energy DJs, water guns, spray tunnels and champagne spray packages welcome DJ Kid Funk on May 10.
Hip-hop lovers unite at the bougie and bomb dayclub Drai’s Beachclub at The Cromwell. The two-story dayclub has some of the best VIP bungalows, some with their own pools, and then two massive main pools, all with unbeatable views of the Strip from the rooftop location. A menu of elevated poolside eats and signature cocktails makes the experience even more special, and there are even two covered
bar areas to take a break from the heat and settle into some air conditioning. Drai’s not only has a phenomenal lineup of hip-hop artists, but the energy and logistics that go into the live shows is nothing short of a full-blown concert experience. On the roster this season are Jeezy, Lil Wayne, Ne-Yo and Rick Ross, and this week catch Waka Flocka on May 4, Patrick Cornett on May 9 and Wiz Khalifa on May 10. –Kiko Miyasato

Tamba Las Vegas reimagines Indian cuisine with delectable
results
By Kiko Miyasato
Indian cuisine is vibrant, rich—one might even say sultry—and recipes are filled with flavors that saturate the taste buds. Enticed yet? Well, make your way to Tamba Las Vegas at Town Square, an Indian restaurant that adds contemporary touches and artful presentations to the traditional dining experience. Tamba long held court on the Las Vegas Strip before closing years ago, but thankfully for many a tourist and local alike, the restaurant, helmed by restaurateur Sunny Dhillon and executive chef Anand Singh, has found a new home.
The home? A beautiful, thoughtfully designed space with a minimalist, upscale feel made up of a 60-seat bar and lounge soundtracked by a DJ spinning out downtempo tunes and a lively main dining room.
Start the Tamba Las Vegas experience by perusing the cocktail menu—an art book-like menu with stories that tell the tales of the cocktails you’ll be
drinking. It must be acknowledged that the combination of ingredients within the cocktails are beyond creative and intriguing. One favorite is the deliciously curious Crown Lassi Luxe, made with Tahitian vanilla bean-infused vodka, cream, sugar, soda and Alphonso mango topped with rose dust and crushed pistachios. The Peacock Martini probably best demonstrates the creativity

that director of beverage Giuseppe Gonzalez brought to the menu. The cocktail is made using a pousse caféstyle technique, meaning the ingredients are layered on one another—it’s mixed with gin, citrus solution and vapor-distilled house tonic syrup.
Now that your taste buds and interests are piqued, dive into a divine menu of traditional dishes with contemporary
twists, beginning with a delightful threesome of specialty naan (garlic cilantro, goat cheese and togarashi and black truffle and fluer del sel). Must-order starters include the traditional baked samosa chaat, this version with the puff pastry filled with masala potatoes and green peas, served with drops of pomegranate seeds and a chickpea curry. The spiced tamarind hamachi,
Indian tuna crudo and mixed sashimi platter all cool and spark the palate. And the sea bass Amritsari is made with pieces of fried sea bass served with a mint salsa and kimchi salad.
Main dishes include the Indian rice staple biryani with chicken, vegetables or goat. Don’t miss the dishes made in a traditional charcoal-fired josper, a cooking contraption that is a cross between a grill and oven. Go vegetarian with the bhuna gobi, a cut of bright purple cauliflower resting in a to-die-for green coconut curry and broccoli purée with a touch of Japanese chili oil. Or go with the carnivore option, 10 ounces of angara-spiced New York wagyu sauced with saffron porcini mushrooms and a balsamic curry glaze. The seafood route has a don’t-miss tawa charred octopus with beetroot and chat aioli. Traditional wok-cooked dishes and curries with herbs and spices shipped from India round out the menu.
For dessert, order the already-popular matcha ras malai, made with the traditional cheese flat dumplings that have been amped up with pistachio, lime mango cream and berries.

Sammy Hagar pays tribute to a guitar legend at his new Las Vegas show
By Matt Kelemen

SAMMY HAGAR may not have the will to drive at any speed less than 56 miles per hour, but he does prefer to be interviewed while in transit. It’s a good use of the Red Rocker’s car time as he prepared for the first set of dates as a Dolby Live resident performer with Sammy Hagar: The Best of All Worlds Stays in Vegas The Residency. It’s an extended headlining engagement, as well as part of his latest tour featuring his Chickenfoot bandmates.
“I’m in Orange County heading for Downtown L.A. to a rehearsal hall, where we’re shooting a video with Mike Anthony, Kenny Arono , Joe Satriani and myself for a new song I wrote with Joe,” said Hagar during the mid-afternoon, mid-March drive. “This song is so special that we’re gonna do it, and the world has to see it. The world has to hear it for it to make sense. It’s important. That’s all I have to say.”
to Rock,” “I Can’t Drive 55”), Van Halen era (“Why Can’t This Be Love,” “Poundcake”) and a cover or two.
The band has Chickenfoot’s catalog to draw on and Hagar is game enough to sing lead on early Van Halen (“Ain’t Talkin’ ‘Bout Love”), but the new song was a direct tribute to that band’s late guitarist.
To celebrate Hagar’s residency, several bars are serving cocktails in his honor, including his own Cabo Wabo Cantina at Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood.
INSIDER TIP:
To access the secret happy hour menu, just give the password: “Best of All Worlds.”
It’s up to Hagar to bring it to the fans who come to Vegas for the nine-date Best of All Worlds shows. “I’ve had this song in my pocket for about a year and I got Joe to finish it with me,” said Hagar. “It’s perfect timing for me to release it, for the residency to have a new song.”
The new song will be added to a set that will run the gamut of Hagar’s career. The Red Rocker’s most recent concerts kicked o with his ’70s origins in Montrose (“Bad Motor Scooter”) and cruised through his solo years (“There’s Only One Way
“It’s about Eddie,” said Hagar. “I had a dream. Eddie was in the dream. We were in a room with a bunch of people and he had a guitar wrapped around his neck. Eddie goes ‘Hey, c’mere c’mere c’mere! I want to show you! I want to show you this thing!’ And he starts playing this ri and I started singing, and I woke up from the (expletive) dream and I remembered everything. I jumped out of my bed and, 4 in the morning, grabbed my notepad, started writing the lyrics.” Hagar recreated the melody from his dream and figured out the guitar ri s then showed it to Satriani. “He finished it, and (expletive) it’s magic! It has to be done. This is a gift.”
The Best of All Worlds may be the only place to experience “Encore, Thank You, Goodnight.” until the video is released. Hagar describes the song as conceptually beautiful, rocking and reminiscent of classic Van Halen.
“I dream about people all the time after they’ve passed,” said Hagar.
“I’ve had so many dreams about songs.… I’ve actually had quite a few that I’ve remembered. This is a classic one.”

The fire dancers and DJ put the Toca Madera experience into overdrive, especially on the weekends, where dinner becomes a fun, nightlife vibe. 725.255.9030

Josh Groban brings ‘Gems’ to his legion of fans in a series of Vegas shows
It really is one of the more memorable television moments of the last 25 years. Ally McBeal, a legal drama that aired on Fox, was already very well-known as a show that incorporated music into its fabric, even giving bit roles to superstars like Barry Manilow, Al Green, Elton John, Sting and Mariah Carey. But it was an unknown singer (at the time) that had the biggest impact on viewers. An unassuming-looking Josh Groban
Quest for Camelot
appeared on the 2001 season fi nale as Malcolm Wyatt, and the second he opened his mouth to sing “You’re Still You,” the show’s legacy—and Groban’s fate—changed forever.
Fast-forward to now, and that singular voice has resulted in four multiplatinum albums and more than 25 million records sold worldwide. Not bad for a performer who originally wanted to be an actor.
Still You,” the show’s legacy—and originally wanted to be an actor.
As massive an impact as Groban’s Ally McBeal appearance would

Foster, who knew Groban through a mutual friend, asked him to stand in for Bocelli during rehearsals. the Grammys that year, was so impressed by what she heard that she invited him on her talk show,
which later led to the Ally McBeal career-altering appearance.
Groban has since collaborated with some of the biggest names in the business, from Sarah Brightman, Lara Fabian and Barbra Streisand to Charlotte Church, Imogen Heap and Ladysmith Black Mambazo. He’s performed on Broadway, including in Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812 and Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
Along the way, he’s released best-selling albums, from his self-titled debut in 2001 and Closer in 2003 to Awake in 2007 and Illuminations in 2010. Along the way, he’s covered a number of musical bases, from adult contemporary and gospel to classical and operatic pop.
And he didn’t abandon his acting career, appearing in shows like Glee and The O ce (playing Andy Bernard’s brother in two episodes) and movies like Crazy, Stupid, Love and Muppets Most Wanted
Audiences attending his series of exclusive Gems shows at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace are no doubt excited to hear Groban standards like “You Raise Me Up,” “Believe,” “Remember,” “You Are Loved (Don’t Give Up),” “Hidden Away” and so many more, all delivered in that mellifluous tone that’s led him to so many Grammy, Emmy and Tony nominations. And who knows? Given the special guests he’s brought on stage on tours past, it’s entirely likely he might have a special guest—or two— in the wings to make the night even more exciting.

There’s no end to the fun to be had in Las Vegas
Las Vegas is a destination that attracts people who like a good adrenaline rush. Whether drawn to table games, nightlife excursions, dining adventures or indulgent shopping sprees, there are more highs for a Vegas visitor to experience than time to enjoy them all. For connoisseurs of altitudinal adjustments, a Vegas visit is an opportunity to cross a few items o bucket lists.
The Big Apple Coaster at New York-New York is the thrill ride most associated with the skyline of the Strip. Traveling at speeds of up to nearly 70 mph, The Big Apple Coaster does not disappoint when it comes to traditional expectations of modern rail rides. It’s famous for its 180-degree “heartline” twist-anddive feature and 203-foot drop. It goes without saying that a Nathan’s hot dog or slice of pizza should follow a Big Apple Coaster ride rather than precede it. There are many views of the Strip from on high that are best experienced rather than described, but hurtling at top speed through New York-New York’s skyline keeps people coming back to the tune of nearly 1.5 million riders per year. And its accompanying arcade is a wonderland of some of your favorite midway-style games.
The highest of the Vegas challenges is the High Roller at The Linq Promenade, one of the world’s biggest observation wheels that’s
The Big Apple Coaster
become the No. 1 can’t-miss midStrip experience. Sturdy construction assures a safe 30-minute ride that reaches a height equivalent to nearly two football fields laid out vertically and reaching into the sky. The 360-degree view of the Las Vegas Valley is incomparable, whether rota-

Linq o ers virtual reality attractions that simulate whitewater rafting, a haunted elevator and a roller coaster. Hardcore zipline fanatics are already cognizant of AREA15, where visitors zoom across the length of the venue’s nerve center The Spine on Haley’s Comet. It’s slightly less intimidating than ziplining from an altitude of hundreds of feet above The Strip, and provides a you-arethere introduction to the immersive

experiences inside the attraction, including Meow Wolf’s Omega Mart and an array of virtual reality options.
Lifto awaits outside of AREA15, providing a view of the Strip from the west side as it elevates small groups of strapped-in adventurers (and their drinks obtained at nearby Lifto Lounge) more than 100 feet into the sky. The 10-minute sojourn provides a good time to strategize an approach to iconic indoor theme park Adventuredome at Circus Circus.
Even if you and the family have been here multiple times, Adventuredome is constantly updating its exciting lineup. So in addition to classics like Canyon Blaster and El Loco (which must be experienced again and again before a truly informed opinion worthy of posting online can be developed), enjoy the all-new 6,000-square-foot SpongeBob’s Crazy Carnival Ride, as well as upgraded rides like the Twistin Tea Cups, go karts and kiddie swings. Meanwhile, NebulaZ and Sand Pirate can capture the attention of family members for whom roller coasters may be too intense. A rock climbing wall, 18-hole mini-golf course and arcade games can round out an Adventuredome visit.
And just across from Adventuredome is The Garage, which o ers the immersive “Birdly” virtual reality experience, neon mini bowling alleys and simulators that let you play golf, soccer, baseball, dodgeball and much more. And for those who like to test their accuracy, there’s also “Axe It Up,” where you throw axes in games like Tic-Tac-Toe, Bottle Crush and Duck Hunt.

get laughs or get roasted at next-level open-mic ‘Kill Tony’
Kill Tony, for the uninitiated, is not a Netflix survival thriller in which comedian Tony Hinchcliffe is hunted down each episode by a rival comic who has been the target of his insult humor. While that’s a great series premise, Kill Tony is a concept developed by Hinchcliffe more than 10 years ago, in which aspiring comics get a minute of stage time in front of an audience, live band and a panel of their peers.
It became a podcasting and YouTube phenomenon, then a touring version that returns to Las Vegas in the wake of the premiere of Kill Tony, the limited Netflix series. The first episode debuted April 7, a Monday night in the traditional weekly slot that Kill Tony fills at Joe Rogan’s Comedy Mothership venue in Austin. Rogan was on hand for the filming of the episode, as were Tom Segura, Adam Ray, Shane Gillis, Kyle Dunnigan and special guest Ron White.
Hinchcliffe will undoubtedly have special guests for his latest stint
8 p.m. May 10, starting at $49 plus tax and fee. axs.com
inside Resorts World Theatre. In September, he was accompanied by co-host Brian Redban, Ray’s Dr. Phil alter ego, Harland Williams and six musicians for nearly three hours of comic relief and cringeworthy bombing from invited regulars and standbys whose names are pulled from a bucket.
Some standbys become regulars. Some regulars that resonate with audiences become scene celebrities.
“Estonian Assassin” Ari Matti had his name projected on Resorts World Theatre’s backdrop in letters several stories high last year and went on to be the opening comedian on the Netflix special. Kill Tony superstars Kam Patterson and William Montgomery appeared at Resorts World Las Vegas and on Netflix as well.
Kill Tony is more than a highconcept open-mic experience. It creates an empathic bond between audience and would-be entertainer, buoyed by encouraging words from panelists when 60-second sets are successful and stinging barbs when they are not.
The barbs are usually taken in stride by the talent because they understand it’s all for the sake of stand-up. It’s not personal. Hinchcliffe and his comic colleagues
believe self-filtering can result in stifled creativity and lost ideas. Roasting tests boundaries. The Kill Tony gang loves testing boundaries. Comic crescendos are achieved when bucket-pulled comedians who just bombed retaliate with comebacks that cause Hinchcliffe to look like he’s laughing to the point of tears. Hinchcliffe may have the thickest skin of all, reveling in unexpected answers to the questions he asks in his unmistakable, unplaceable drawl during post-set interview segments.
Hinchcliffe was raised in Youngstown, Ohio, where he developed a sharp sense of humor to deflect aggression. The skills he developed to survive served him well, as “Roastmaster General” Jeff Ross recognized Hinchcliffe’s talent for insult comedy and gave him work as a writer in the early 2010s.
The seed for Kill Tony sprouted at the Comedy Store in 2013 and migrated to Austin after Rogan opened the Comedy Mothership. Whether Netflix orders more than three episodes remains to be seen, but Hinchcliffe and company have already cultivated a new generation of comedians while perhaps convincing a few aspirants to keep their day jobs.
