Perfect Timing

This is a perfect time of year to visit Las Vegas! The weather is gorgeous and there are so many ways to enjoy yourself, indoors and out.

Allegiant Stadium isn’t just the home of the Las Vegas Raiders; it’s also proven to be a very popular concert venue for some of the world’s biggest acts, and they don’t get much bigger than Post Malone, who brings his BIG ASS Stadium Tour to Las Vegas this week (“Pour Him A Drink,” p. 40).

One of boxing’s biggest stars is Japanese phenom Naoya Inoue, and “The Monster” will be fighting Ramon Cardenas at T-Mobile Arena in defense of his super bantamweight title (“Monster Event,” p. 16 ).

If you’re a brunch fan and love eating outdoors, there’s no better choice than Chéri Rooftop at Paris Las Vegas, which o ers its world-class brunch every day under the Ei el Tower replica (“French Accents,” p. 28).

Level Up!

All-in-one attraction offers a tiered system to customize your experience

There really is no other entertainment experience in Las Vegas quite like AREA15. Its massive complex hosts a world of attractions, rides, restaurants and much more. For first-time visitors, it can seem a bit … overwhelming. Luckily, the all-in-one attraction has created an Experience Pass program that lets you tailor your visit to your specific preferences.

• Pass Level 1 allows you access to nine experiences, rides and attractions. That means you can spend your morning playing AR Dodgeball (re-create all the fun of the Vince Vaughn movie virtually), play a classic arcade console or a game of pool at the Asylum Bar + Arcade, go on a high-flying virtual adventure with Birdly, and test your stroke at Five Iron Golf—and still have plenty left to explore.

• Pass Level 2 includes access to 18 experiences, rides and attractions. That means that in addition to the previously mentioned offerings, you can also enjoy the Army of the Dead VR Experience, based on the Netflix hit movie and featuring 30 minutes of pulse-pounding action that places you smack-dab in the middle of zombie-killing scenes from the Las Vegas-set movie.

• Pass Level 3 includes access to 21 attractions, including the crown jewel of AREA15, Omega Mart, an otherworldly experience that starts in a surreal store and quickly develops into something much larger—and stranger. The amount of interaction you can have in here guarantees hours of fun and exploration. In addition, you can also enjoy the John Wick Experience, a virtual adventure that has you channeling your inner Keanu as you navigate your way through a world of brutality and deception—and lots and lots of fighting.

• Pass Level 4 includes access to all of AREA15. Get ready for hours and hours of unending fun. Some pro tips:

• Buy your tickets two weeks (or more) in advance, and you’ll get 20% off.

• With every pass level, you get a free California roll at Kaia.

Repeat Trips are Mandatory

No matter how many times you visit Vegas, there’s always something new to see with this attraction’s offerings

There are a lot of reasons to make frequent visits to Las Vegas: New shows, restaurants, bars, attractions … the list goes on. But there’s another aspect of the city that makes return visits exciting: The changing skyline. In just the last 10 years, Las Vegas has added a mind-boggling array of intriguing structures, and there’s no better way to view them than with a state-of-the-art helicopter flight courtesy of Maverick Helicopters Board one of Maverick’s ultra-comfortable conveyances and get ready to see Southern Nevada like never before. And even if you’ve taken a flight or two in the past, have you seen aerial views of the enormous Sphere? Allegiant Stadium, the home of the Vegas Raiders? The F1 Grand Prix Plaza? Resorts World Las Vegas, the latest property to be built on the Las Vegas Strip? T-Mobile Arena, the home of the Stanley Cup-winning Vegas Golden Knights? Talk about an experience that keeps on giving!

But don’t stop there. While you listen to inspiring music on headphones, Maverick can whoosh you seemingly immediately to some of the most gorgeous sights in all the Southwest, from Lake Mead Nation-

al Recreation Area and Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area to the Bowl of Fire.

And, of course, the Grand Canyon. If you’ve always wanted to see this natural wonder, consider one of Maverick Helicopters’ trips to Grand Canyon West. With seven different tour options for you, you’re sure to find an itinerary and timeline that suits you. You can spend as little as four hours (but still experience a landing) with the Wind Dancer Tour, which heads over Lake Mead and the Mojave Desert before landing at Grand Canyon West. Enjoy some beverages and nibbles before heading back; on the way back, you’ll cruise over the Strip before landing. Other tours include landings where you can experience Grand Canyon West’s Skywalk, a cantilevered glass bridge that seems to sit in midair over the natural wonder.

Want to make the experience extra special? Maverick also offers wedding packages, including a cake, minister, champagne and more.

Monster Event

One of the world’s biggest boxing stars is ready to provide Las Vegas with plenty of fireworks

There are boxing stars, and then there’s Naoya Inoue. Truly in a class of his own, this Japanese boxer leaves no ticket-buyer unsatisfied with his sensational combination of speed and punching power—26 of his 29 wins come by way of knockout. He’s held multiple world championships in four weight classes, and he’s ready to defend his super bantamweight title for the fourth time this week in Las Vegas.

Nicknamed “The Monster,” Inoue is an undisputed champion in two weight classes (the first fighter to accomplish that feat in the “four-belt era”), and has become one of Japan’s most decorated and popular athletes. Sportico has him listed among the highest-paid athletes in the world (the sixth highest-paid boxer on the list). His opponent, Ramon Cardenas, nicknamed “Dinamita,” is no slouch himself, compiling a 26-1 record with 14 knockouts.

The tale of the tape suggests an intriguing matchup. Inoue’s first bout was in 2012, Cardenas’s in 2015. In both fights, victory was secured by knockout. Both fighters stand 5-foot-5, and Cardenas is slightly younger—he’s 29 and Inoue is 32. Cardenas is ranked as the No. 9 super bantamweight by The Ring, while Inoue is The Ring’s current No. 2 pound-for-pound fighter.

While Cardenas has not yet fought in Las Vegas, it will be Inoue’s third bout here. Expect a sold-out crowd to witness what is sure to be boxing history. –Ken Miller

Sharing the Magic

Family-friendly illusionist always has time for his fans

Some magicians closely guard their secrets. Others, when they are not performing, freely dispense advice to aspiring illusionists and seekers of sleight-of-hand knowledge. Mac King falls squarely in the latter, if only for the long-running comic strip Magic-in-a-Minute he created with his illustrator cousin Bill.

The amount of times young people have asked King how to get started in the craft, after seeing one of his afternoon performances of The Mac King Comedy Magic Show at Excalibur, is inestimable (and he can’t answer them comprehensively in 30 seconds of meet-and-greet). King himself was literally grandfathered in, with both of his grandfathers having magical skills.

“They knew some tricks, and my mom’s dad, in particular, had some magic books at his house,” says King in an exclusive interview with Las Vegas Magazine. Both grandfathers were in sales and traveled for work. “They used magic as icebreakers to meet people or make themselves look interesting.”

If King had to identify one trick as ground zero for his interest, it would be his dad’s dad breaking a match, then “reconstructing” it beneath a

handkerchief. It was also the first trick King learned step-by-step, which fully ignited his passion.

King’s own Mac King’s Magic in a Minute Great Big Ol’ Book-O-Magic is due for a revision, but it can be found used on Amazon as well. King cites benefits of learning magic such as sharpened focus and problem-solving skills. Practice improves muscle memory, while performing builds confidence in public speaking. Ultimately, it led King to a career and meeting his future wife. He performed a trick involving pulling a card from his pants that he still performs today, and she was smitten, long before he became the plaid-clad member of Las Vegas’ resident magicians. “I’ve got decks of cards all over my house,” he says. “I’m shuffling or doing moves. I’m not even thinking about it.”

While King doesn’t mind his tricks winding up in the public domain, his skills of making goldfish and Fig Newtons appear remain unsurpassed. His folksy presence and family-friendly magic blend together in a persona that, unlike his tricks, can’t be copied. –Matt Kelemen

Get Fired Up

Attraction offers a whole day’s worth of entertainment

You might think The Range 702 is just a shooting gallery. You couldn’t be more wrong. In fact, there’s so much going on at Las Vegas’ largest indoor shooting range that you could literally spend an entire day here. And thanks to the facility’s state-of-the-art air filtration system, you really want to.

Yes, there are 20-plus shooting packages available like the Black Ops experience, where you get to try weapons like a full auto MP5 (20 rounds), a full auto M4 (20 rounds), a

full auto M249 SAW (30 rounds) and a semi-auto Glock 17 (10 rounds), but walk around the facility and you’ll also find a cool VIP suite containing three large-screen TVs and cool art on the walls, ideal for everything from presentations to sports viewing.

Speaking of VIP, The Range 702 also includes four VIP lanes, and this is an experience well worth your time and money, including everything from a private hostess bar, LCD TVs and your own private restroom

facilities. This is the perfect place for birthdays, anniversaries, bachelor and bachelorette parties and more.

One of the coolest things about The Range 702 is its green philosophy: Not only are all rounds frangible (meaning they have less wear and tear on the galleries and are environmentally friendly), all 50-caliber shells get reused up to eight times. –Ken Miller

This wine and spirits lounge is one of the city’s oldest and best-kept secrets

Celebrate wine any day, all day, at the city’s vino hidden gem, The Wine Cellar at Rio Las Vegas. This place is literally hidden underneath the property, operating and impressing wine connoisseurs and newbies since 1997. Take the winding staircase down to a Tuscan-inspired cellar with wrought iron, wine barrels, brick, stone, fine furnishings, cozy nooks and an air of European chic. The lounge stores more than 1,000 bottles of fine wines and spirits, as well as rare and unlimited selections. Peruse wines from around the world as well as more singular selections like after-dinner wines, sparkling wines, ice wines and tawny ports. Fans of tequila, whiskey and bourbon can peruse an impressive, high-end list, too.

The least expensive glass of wine will run you about $15 a glass all the way up to $75; bottles start around $50 with rare options costing up to $3,500. But what’s great about The Wine Cellar is its flight options—a program that wine manager Hung Nguyen is very proud of, as he curates all the flights. “Every guest has a chance to try something here,” Nguyen says. “I welcome the

customer just like if they were coming to my house, and if they don’t like the flights that are on the menu I can put together a special flight for them. I have two rules down here in The Wine Cellar. Rule No. 1: Always have the guest walk in here and have the best time and the best value. And second rule is: Always follow rule No. 1.”

But fans of white or red shouldn’t miss two very delicious flights Nguyen has recently put together on the menu. (All flights include a 3-ounce pour of

three different selections). The first, Nothing But Buttery Chardonnay Flight, features Cakebread Cellars from Napa Valley, Duckhorn Migration from Russian River Valley and the Rombauer Carneros from Napa-Sonoma Valley. The second is for red wine lovers, Kevin’s Cab—Cabernet Sauvignon Flight, with Justin Isosceles from Paso Robles, Orin Swift Papillon from Napa Valley and Caymus from Napa Valley. For a real treat each flight, or any for that matter, can be accompanied by The

Not only is Nguyen proud of the wine selection, but he raves about the cheese selection, too—so cheeseheads might want to make their way to The Wine Cellar if only for the artisan cheese flights. A favorite is the Washed-Rind Cheese Flight No. 2 with 24-month-

Over its tenure, The Wine Cellar has had too many repeat visitors to count, and that’s a testament to the service and overall offerings and experience.

Whether it’s brunch or dinner, Chéri Rooftop delivers an unforgettable experience

702.776.7777

You’ll find both brunch and dinner service here, with enough French-inspired dishes to satisfy any longing. And Chéri Rooftop’s brunch really rises above the rest. For starters, it’s available every day of the week (seriously, why can’t it be that way everywhere?) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. And all your brunch classics are here, plus a few genuine surprises.

Start your experience with a mimosa, your choice of seasonal fresh juice topped with champagne. Chéri’s version comes in both a single serving and all you can drink. We definitely

recommend the latter, as it is a far better bargain, and you’re definitely going to want seconds! Then move to the appetizers section, which is practically bursting with options like a classic Cobb salad, steak tartare, fresh fruit and shrimp cocktail. But Chéri has added delights like pastrami candied bacon, served with hot Dijon sauce, petite greens and focaccia crouton, and grilled blueberry bread, served with cream cheese, blueberry syrup, berries and mint. Soooo decadent.

omelettes (four choices, ranging from wild mushrooms and blue crab to linguica sausage and bacon), eggs Benedict, croque madame and buttermilk pancakes. But for something definitely o the beaten path, order the Chéri Burger, made with ground wagyu and layered with havarti cheese, black garlic aioli, tru e and arugula and served with oh-so-good duck fat fries. And speaking of meat lovers, you can’t go wrong with the steak frites, a 10-ounce flatiron steak, with maître d’ butter, watercress and hand-cut fries.

For dessert, choose from lemon

curd cheesecake, served with blueberry jam, candied lemon zest and shaved white chocolate, vanilla crème brulee with fresh berries and Valrhona devil’s food cake served with chocolate mousse and hazelnut-praline sauce. If you do choose to have dinner here, start with a warm baguette with French butter, chives and a sprinkling of Maldon salt. It’s the butter that really makes this bite. Duck lettuce wraps with five-spiced duck, served with hoison and sambal, wild mushroom cigars with a yuzu crème fraîche, and oysters on the half-shell or Rockefeller-style will pique your taste buds. Follow that with a classic appetizer like French onion soup, served here with caramelized onions, port wine, black tru e and Gruyère. The French classic of escargot is served with a strong garlic herb butter, and grilled Caesar and Cobb salads might even serve as a main for smaller appetites. Main courses range from lobster

ravioli and pappardelle Bolognese with slow-cooked ragu to Ora King salmon and oxtail bourguignon, served with bacon lardons, pearl onions and roasted garlic pommes purée. Pair them with sides like creamed or sauteed spinach or tartiflette for two, potatoes gratin made with Reblochon cheese, bacon, onions and riesling.

Jerry Seinfeld’s

single-minded focus on comedy has shot him to the top of the heap

Jerry Seinfeld is the world’s first billionaire comedian, according to financial journalists at Forbes. Turning 71 this week, Seinfeld has reigned supreme as the king of stand-up longer than Matt Rife has been alive, with no pretenders to or serious contenders for the throne. Other comedians, some of whom he’s directly influenced, are popular enough to play Caesars Palace, but few stand the chance of breaking his record for most performances inside the Colosseum.

“I just like to work as hard as I can and assume that if I don’t look at what I’m spending, then I’ll be OK,” Seinfeld said to hosts Matt Farah and Zack Klapman of The Smoking Tire Podcast on their April 1 show, the same day Forbes published its billionaires list. Seinfeld joins Bruce Springsteen and

Arnold Schwarzenegger as entertainment’s newest ambassadors to the 10-figure income club that counts Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg and Jeff Bezos in the Top Three.

Seinfeld prefers rare automobiles to rockets, stoicism to social media. Everything to him is about work, focus, Transcendental Meditation, not sweating the small stuff. He’s interested in the philosophical writings of Marcus Aurelius like a pre-career Seinfeld was interested in reading about the lives of comics like Richard Pryor and Lily Tomlin in author Phil Berger’s book The Last Laugh: The World of StandUp Comics or catching cutting-edge British sketch satirists during the theatrical run of Monty Python and the Holy Grail

For Seinfeld, born and raised on Long Island’s

suburban hamlet of Massapequa, the grail was Manhattan’s Catch a Rising Star comedy club. He’d meet future collaborators Carol Leifer and Larry David during his formative years, and be part of a stand-up generation that included Jay Leno, Bill Maher, Richard Lewis, Richard Belzer and Eddie Murphy.

Rodney Dangerfield gave him his first national exposure on an HBO special, shortly followed in May 1981 by the first of 31 guest appearances on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. Once Seinfeld had momentum, there was no steering off track. His work ethic, lack of energy-diverting vices and low- to no-controversy private life allowed fans to focus on his eponymous television series, movies about bees and toaster pastries, and a successful talk show in which he picks up fellow comedians in rare automobiles and takes them out for java.

One of those comedians was Jim Gaffigan, a costar

in Seinfeld’s breakfast-food comedy Unfrosted. Seinfeld comes to Las Vegas hot on the heels of a tour with Gaffigan, who was able to recommend a favorite food for every city they stopped in. It’s safe to say that without Seinfeld conquering the open-mic nights of New York’s comedy clubs, Gaffigan’s comedy may not have been the same, and both comedians are cognizant of this.

Sebastian Maniscalco’s comedy may not have been the same either, or Brian Regan’s, or John Mulaney’s, or Mark Normand’s. Observational humor, and comedy in general, would not have been the same. Seinfeld affected and changed popular culture with jokes, never settling for anything less than excellence in his contributions to his chosen profession.

Neon Museum collaboration celebrates the vivid history of Cirque du Soleil in Las Vegas

The Grand Gallery inside Las Vegas City Hall has hosted many art exhibits and more than a few previews and opening nights. Few have been as emblematic of Las Vegas as a cultural crossroads where artistic excellence and performance must balance with box o ce success as Stories from Backstage: Cirque du Soleil in Las Vegas

during the preview’s keynote speech on a windy night in February, where glow-getting museum members gathered along with VIPs such as Las Vegas Mayor Shelley Berkley and Mike Newquist, Cirque du Soleil’s president of resident and a liate shows.

A collaboration with Neon Museum, the limited-time exhibition delves deep into the evolution of athlete into artist, characters into costume concepts and fantasy into functional footwear.

“Whether you have seen a Cirque du Soleil show or not, this is relevant to you,” said Neon Museum executive director Aaron Berger

Berger recognized chief curator and Neon Museum deputy director Sarah Hulme for coordinating the e ort. “The Cirque du Soleil team worked tremendously hard with her team to bring forth the costume designers, the dressers, the stories, the oral histories,” he said before calling for a round of applause.

Every show in Cirque’s current Strip portfolio is represented at Stories, which runs through May 1.

There are also instructions on how to juggle a person as featured in the acrobatic Icarian Games from Mad Apple, insights into what it’s like for athletes to transition from Olympic podium to performance, and a moving tribute to Dominique Lemieux, the accomplished costume designer who passed away last year.

The correlations between attention-grabbing neon and audience-dazzling costuming, or detailed resort interiors with Cirque stage productions, are made emphatically clear in the Grand Gallery exhibits.

“Everybody in the city that comes to City Hall on business has an opportunity to observe this extraordinary exhibit,” said Berkley after Newquist expressed his gratitude to the assembled guests. “Cirque is so much a part of Las Vegas and our history, and it’s absolutely breathtaking.”

Impressed is putting it mildly as you walk through the double doors and into the grand entryway of the three-bedroom, 6,500 square-foot Palace Suite inside Crockfords at Resorts World Las Vegas. With its own distinct lobby, Crockfords is the pinnacle of hotel luxury, and the brand has built rooms, penthouses and suites on Resorts World’s massive acreage. Here, we highlight one of the most opulent and palatial options for booking—the Palace Suite. (There are two offered, nearly identical except one is a four bedroom). When staying at the Palace Suite, you’ll pull up to a private, gated entrance on the Resorts World property and be met by an arrival team who will direct you to Crockford’s private lobby experience, complete with light snacks and beverages, and they’ll help get you situated and to your room. As a guest of the Palace Suite, you’re provided with 24-hour luxury service. Think of it as your own team of ambassadors to take care of whatever needs may arise, including amenities like butler service (there is a full kitchen and butler pantry inside the suite) and priority access to venues across the resort.

The includes a spacious living space, theater room with cinema-style plush seating and state-of-the-art media, a full bar area with pool table and a dining room. Floor-to-ceiling windows offer a smooth transition from indoor to outdoor living. The pièce de résistance is the huge outdoor living space complete with your own pool and Jacuzzi. Like a private tropical getaway with swaying palm trees and lush foliage, the outdoor area really is like your own resort, with plenty of lounge chairs, dining tables and a huge bar with seating for 12 under a rotunda. A gourmet patio kitchen allows guests to throw their own cookout, and multiple TVs make any day a great game-day party.

The guest rooms are nothing short of luxury at its finest. Two of the bedrooms offer a king-sized bed and the third room holds two queen-sized beds. All rooms come with their own vanities, sitting areas, walk-in closet, separate walk-in rain shower and water closet and oversized soaking tub (one king-sized room offers its own sauna). Each offers outdoor patio seating among the tropical architecture, and every room is stacked with upscale products like toiletries by luxury brand Bulgari. Each room is equipped with a one-touch tablet that allows you to control the lighting, air, drapes, music, TV and more.

Other highlights of staying at the include a Nespresso machine, food delivery from some of the resort’s restaurants, exclusive access to the 66th-floor All ē Lounge, a Theragun Elite device to work those sore muscles, elevated bar selections and luxurious bathrobes, slippers and self-care accessories. Besides the overabundance of amenities and visually pleasing architecture, the Palace Suite is decorated with a cool collection of pop art pieces including paintings and sculptures.

Post Malone brings a varied setlist to his Vegas performance

How deep Post Malone will dig into his 18-track country album F-1 Trillion for Post Malone Presents: The BIG ASS Stadium Tour was previewed at this year’s Coachella festival, where he headlined a Sunday bill featuring Megan Thee Stallion, Zedd and Kraftwerk. Like that lineup, the Posty one’s live shows have increasingly spanned genres during his decade-plus career, but with 15 of F-1 Trillion ’s songs featuring allstar guests, there are challenges translating them for the stage.

Hits such as “Pour Me A Drink” and “I Had Some Help” debuted live in June and September of last year, respectively, with Blake Shelton joining the singer on the former on several occasions. Whether Morgan Wallen makes appearances on The BIG ASS Stadium Tour to assist with the latter remains to be seen, but Malone has managed F-1 ’s “M-E-X-I-C-O” without Billy Strings and was joined by Jelly Roll for that album’s “Losers” during a New Orleans concert two days before Super Bowl LIX.

He led o the Super Bowl LIX YouTube Tailgate Concert with “Wrong Ones,” the album-opening cut featuring Tim McGraw that

Malone led o shows with during his fall tour. That song, minus McGraw, will likely continue to be the set opener on the stadium tour, but Malone will have a pair of F-1 collaborators on the road with him in the forms of support acts Jelly Roll and Sierra Ferrell.

Ferrell and Malone wrap their voices together on “Never Love You Again,” a waltz-time tune sweetened with fiddle and steel guitar. Malone has worked with veteran country musicians to render F-1 material live while longer shows last autumn provided opportunities to introduce new material such as “California Sober,” “Finer Things” and “What Don’t Belong to Me” alongside signature songs “White Iverson” and “Circles.”

Malone has an extensive catalog now. F-1 forms a trifecta of chart-topping albums along with critically acclaimed Hollywood’s Bleeding (2019) and Beerbongs & Bentleys (2018). That’s a lot of lyrics to remember after a inestimable amount of Bud Light consumed during his 30 years of existence, but Malone’s resilience is as reliable as his e ervescence is contagious. Those two ingredients

are as crucial to his success as his facial tattoos are to making him instantly recognizable.

Body art along with live music, food and beer are ingredients that will help determine the success of his free pre-concert Travelin’ Tailgate at the venue, although the chance to win a 2025 Harley-Davidson may be the pièce de résistance for more than a few fans.

As for the upcoming concerts themselves, Malone can be counted on to top any previous spectacle he’s taken on the road and to have used his 2024 shows as test runs for what was to come this year. As entertainment the current tour’s value is guaranteed. As a cultural event it’s a landmark of live hiphop and country blended together and delivered by one artist during marathon performances that will be celebrated by audiences and examined under a microscope by influencers. Malone will be smiling all the way.

Mount Charleston

You’ve finally made it to Vegas! So many choices—you can gamble to your heart’s (and wallet’s) content, you can go on a shopping spree, you can eat at some of the world’s finest restaurants and see some of the greatest entertainers on the planet—often all in the same day! These experiences are quintessential Vegas musts and definitely contribute to a joyful and fulfilling visit. But what if that’s not enough? You may not know it, but away from the Strip, Vegas is a mini-paradise for the everyday adventurer, whether you’re venturing out during those brutal, triple-digit temperatures or during the cooler months. There are mountains to climb, trails to explore, a man-made lake to admire and nature to observe. Of course, we fully expect that you’ll be taking advantage of all the Strip has to o er. That’s why you’re here! But if you really want to stretch your legs and see a side of the Southwest you’ve never seen before, take a chance and do something new—call that Über or Lyft, head to REI for some supplies, and get o the grid. You may never want to leave!

Start o your morning by exploring one of the many hiking trails in Las Vegas. Near Lake Mead, right outside of Boulder City, is the Historic Railroad Trail (nps. gov), an easy 7.5-mile trek (round trip) that follows the old railway that trans-

ported machinery and supplies to Hoover Dam during its construction. Along the path, you’ll pass through five massive tunnels, which helps measure the scope of the dam’s construction and shows how the project was a major feat of engineering. Another great option for easy hiking trails is Lone Mountain Park. There’s a flat-ground desert trail that loops around the tiny mountain and o ers great views of the city. But if you’d like to make that view even better, climb to the mountain’s peak.

If you decide to check out either of those hiking areas, remember that the weather may reach warmer digits, so bring a lot of water and don’t forget your sunscreen. If you’d rather not deal with any heat at all Mount Charleston is a much cooler refuge, with temperatures nearly 20 degrees lower than in the valley. It’s home to the popular Mary Jane Falls and Cathedral Rock trails, to name a few, which are a little tougher and rockier than the previously mentioned trails, but the crisp mountain air and stunning scenery— as well as seeing a side of Las Vegas that you probably didn’t know existed—will make it all worth it.

If hiking doesn’t appeal to you, but you still want to observe and enjoy nature, that’s not a problem. The Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve (cityofhenderson.com) is a tranquil place to view resident birds like roadrunners and verdin, as well as nesting American avocets and blacknecked stilts. Go to Floyd Lamb State Park and you might wonder if you’re still in Las Vegas. The small oasis has lush

Grand Canyon

vegetation, a quaint ranch and a few fishing ponds filled with ducks and geese— you’ll even come across a few peacocks. But if you want to see some nature without leaving your car, take a drive along the 13-mile scenic loop at Red Rock Canyon (redrockcanyonlv.org), where you’ll be able to view unique red rock formations and wide-open desert landscapes. If you feel compelled to leave your car, however, there are several observation points and overlooks where you can stretch your legs, walk around and further explore the canyon.

In speaking of canyons, while it’s not Vegas, the Grand Canyon is too close to not be part of a Southern Nevada experience. If you don’t know where to start, try Grand Canyon West ( grandcanyonwest.com). This massive area o ers a one-stop shop of ways to view the Grand Canyon and its surrounding areas, such as walking along the glass-paneled Skywalk or taking a helicopter tour. There’s also a convenient shuttle service that circulates through Guano Point, Eagle Point and Hualapai Ranch, allowing you to explore the West Rim at your own pace.

Lone Mountain Lake Las Vegas
Red Rock Canyon

What’s great about the desert is daytime temperatures can still warm the body so visitors have the opportunity to enjoy some of Vegas’ watery attractions, even in winter weather. Take a short drive o the Strip to Lake Las Vegas for the popular Lake Las Vegas Water Sports (lakelasvegaswatersports.com). It’s the total package for fun on the water, with electric boats, kayaks and paddle boards available for rent (reservations highly recommended). Or head a little farther down the road and you’ll find Lake

Mead (nps.gov). It’s one of the nation’s largest man-made lakes, so there’s a lot to explore. Entry to the lake allows you to access relaxing beach areas, including Boulder Beach, and its several marinas, like Lake Mead Marina and Lake Mead Boat Harbor, where you can rent pontoon boats, sports boats and WaveRunners through Boating Lake Mead (boatinglakemead.com). Maybe all that water will remind you of something like the Bellagio Fountains, and you’ll want to head right back to what you came for: that fabulous Las Vegas Strip.
