A Party Like No Other Whether it’s in concert or at his new lounge, this performer is ready to close out 2024 in style By far one of the most anticipated albums of the last 20 years is the one Bruno Mars has been working on since early 2023. But while you’re waiting for that sure-to-be masterpiece to hit Spotify, you can catch the man himself in action this week in Las Vegas; he’s made it a tradition to perform in Vegas nearly every final evening of the year since 2013, and it’s a party you do not want to miss.

Equal parts old Vegas and new, Mars’ shows are an event featuring all his most-beloved tunes, and this year audiences are most practically guaranteed the addition of two new ones: “Die With a Smile,” a Mars collaboration with Lady Gaga which, earlier this year, became his first No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200; and “Apt,” a collaboration with Rosé that became his second on that chart.

If Mars is not exactly prolific in the new albums department, he’s more than making up for it with touring (visiting Tokyo, Bangkok, Singapore and Brazil this year alone) and involvement in other forms of media (with a Disney deal to star in and produce a music-themed film, and the video game Fortnite recently adding Bruno Mars-themed upgrades to its Items Shop). On the Las Vegas front, this year saw the opening of The Pinky Ring by Bruno Mars, a cocktail lounge and jazz bar at Bellagio that fans will want to pay attention to during Mars’ shows, as after-parties there featuring the man himself are almost a given.

Mars is also enjoying his stature as one of the few musical artists to have their own limited-edition Stratocaster, joining Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck and Nile Rogers as luminaries with an Artist Signature Series designed in their honor by the Fender Musical Instrument Company.

(Stratocasters have long been his weapon of choice.)

Mars creates music when the muse hits him and doesn’t seem to publicly express consternation about maintaining a constant presence on the charts. Bye-Bye, 2024!

As New Year’s Eve approaches, you’ve got plenty of party plan options across town

You’ve come to the best city to say goodbye to 2024 and ring in 2025. Las Vegas has got plenty of options. Pick your party mode and get to celebrating on Dec. 31! We’ve rounded up just a few recommendations to get you started: Las Vegas has a lock on nightclub experiences and on New Year’s Eve the vibe is amplified. Dance until the dawn of the new year with the following DJs soundtracking the party: DJ Pauly D at Hakkasan at MGM Grand; O.T. Genasis at Tao at The Venetian; Tyga at Jewel at Aria; Steve Aoki at Omnia at Caesars Palace; and special performances by Lil Wayne at Drai’s Nightclub at The Cromwell and T-Pain at Zouk Nightclub at Resorts World Las Vegas.

Resorts World Las Vegas continues the fun with parties at Gatsby’s Cocktail Lounge with DJ Nico Oso from 9 p.m.-2 a.m. and Kid Funk taking over until 5 a.m. Over at Eight Lounge, beginning at 8:30 p.m., guests can sip specialty cocktails and puff on cigars while listening to a live DJ and hanging out on the expansive patio to catch the fireworks show at midnight.

A party to blow your mind happens at AREA15 as the whole building turns into one big masquerade party. Come dressed to the nines, or in your best rave wear or masquerade-inspired attire and enjoy themed ballrooms, hidden lounges, one-of-a-kind cocktail bars and mysterious sanctuaries. Music will include everything from heart-pounding EDM and R&B to hip-hop and more mellow, ambient sounds. Doors open at 9 p.m. and the party goes late into night.

For a different party vibe, head downtown and hit up two different hot spots. Plaza’s party includes the only fireworks display downtown, and the best place to catch them will be at the property’s lively Carousel Bar that sits outside in front of the hotel. Take the party to the top of Circa Resort & Casino at Legacy Club’s Countdown in the Clouds New Year’s Eve party.

The party starts at 9 p.m. and includes open bar, champagne toast at midnight, live DJ and breathtaking panoramic views of the Strip and downtown fireworks displays from the outdoor terrace. –Kiko Miyasato

Band enjoying career resurgence highlights Las Vegas’ NYE celebrations What makes Creed’s continued worldwide fame so astonishing is that the band has released only four albums over its 30-year existence—the last one in 2009!

But some music stands the test of time, and Creed has more than earned its place among those venerable bands that sell out no matter where they go. Need more proof? They’re helping close out 2024 in Las Vegas.

The band’s on-again/off-again status has been well-documented, but the original lineup of singer Scott Stapp, lead

guitarist Mark Tremonti, drummer Scott Phillips and bassist Brian Marshall are reunited and enjoying a massive resurgence in popularity, partly due to the band’s hits being featured in TikTok videos. (Earlier this year, their music returned to no fewer than four Billboard charts!)

It also doesn’t hurt that their 1999 album Human Clay remains one of the best-selling albums of all time, thanks to singles like “With Arms Wide Open” and “Higher.”

Hold On Tight!

Country superstar’s brand new Strip restaurant features all the food, drink, live music and fun you can handle Put a little country fun in your holidays this week at Jason Aldean’s Kitchen + Bar. Spread over two funfilled levels, this is a fantastic spot to not only enjoy delightful signature cocktails and delicious light bites but an ever-rotating lineup of superb live country bands.

This spacious facility features plenty of balcony seating (terrific for people-watching along the Las Vegas Strip), plush booths and high-top tables, plus plenty of bars with ample room for large groups to belly up.

Red dominates the décor here, with dark brown woods creating a warm, welcoming feel. In addition to images of the star himself on the walls, there’s lots of projection screens and dance floors for when the music (and the mood) grabs you.

Start your night here with appetizers like Southern nachos, kettle chips smothered with slow-cooked pulled pork, cheddar and queso, smoked bacon, chives and Jason Aldean’s signature bourbon barbecue sauce (courtesy of the great state of Georgia!). If you want to go slightly lighter but still flavorful, definitely try the Nashville hot chicken salad, mixed greens served with crispy hot chicken, bacon, pickles, celery, ranch and bleu cheese crumbles.

Make sure to save plenty of room for the main courses here. For a countrified twist on a comfort food classic, order Jason’s Mac & Cheese, featuring cavatappi pasta blended with creamy pepperjack, bock beer, bacon and beer-brined chicken, all with an herbed panko crust. Speaking of comfort food classics, another standout is Grandma’s Pot Roast, pictured, served the traditional way with mashed potatoes, roasted carrots and charred cipollini onions.

If you’re here on weekends, good news! Aldean’s has specials: seared ahi tuna tostadas, featuring gochujang aioli, sweet heat slaw and cilantro (Fridays only); and peanut-glazed crispy pork belly tacos, served with Napa cabbage slaw, fresh mint, cilantro, Fresno peppers and spicy mayo (Saturdays only).

There are only two desserts here, but both are worth your attention.

Mama Aldean’s Peach Cobbler is from the family’s secret recipe and served with vanilla bean ice cream and caramel drizzle, while the eye-popping chocolate chip and toffee crunch cookie skillet is served with the same toppings. –Ken Miller

Order light bites like the oh-so-adorable reindeer charcuterie board featuring pickled cranberry, honey, cured meats and a delicious sharp white cheddar. For a warm bite, order the jumbo holiday wings with a sweet and spicy cranberry chili glaze and rosemary, the perfect combination of winter flavors.

Don’t miss the film-themed cocktail menu with delicious drinks like Clark’s Holiday Shenanigans, a super-sweet combination of tequila, espresso, dulce de leche and toasted coconut, all served in the cutest Christmas tree cup you’ve ever seen.

For something more spirit-forward, sip the Cool Yule, with El Tesoro reposado, spiced apple syrup, lime juice, cranberries and a float of mezcal for a bit of smokiness.

New Year’s Eve Fireworks Revered Vegas rock band prepares to light up the holiday Most bands go big on New Year’s Eve. Imagine Dragons is going intimate, opting for an audience of about 1,800 at The Venetian Theatre for Imagine Dragons: Live in Las Vegas. The band will be coming off a short rest after winding up the Loom World Tour in Japan, where stadium-sized crowds came out to hear new songs such as “Wake Up,” “Eyes Closed” and set opener “Fire in These Hills” laced among legacy hits “Enemy,” “Thunder” and “Believer.”

Platzman, who amicably stepped away from the career pressures of being an Imagine Dragon in August, will be around for the special show remains to be seen. Founding member Andrew Tolman returned to the drum stool after Platzman first went on hiatus in 2023 and seemed to be enjoying himself, so he’s all warmed up and ready to go.

Officially, Imagine Dragons is a trio consisting of Dan Reynolds, guitarist Wayne Sermon and bassist Ben McKee, who should be well on

his way to having a ZZ Top-length beard by Dec. 31 if he abstains from trimming. Expanding to a five-piece for an evening could make for an interesting footnote in rock history, but whether Tolman is invited to come back into the fold permanently and Imagine Dragons becomes a quartet for its next album remains to be seen.

A mouthwatering warm artichoke dip had me hoarding chips through to dessert, but your server is certain to be clearing away empty plates from the miso cod lettuce cups, pigs in a blanket, served with pub cheese and a wholegrain mustard, and three shrimp tacos with roasted garlic and avocado.

baby tomatoes, with a mix of acidity in the tomatoes, a lovely ball of mozz in the center and a sprinkling of pepitas, all drizzled with balsamic. The emerald kale salad here veers off some of the other versions you may have seen, with grated black kale interacting with a roasted peanut vinaigrette, mint, pecorino cheese and pickled onions for the best version of a kale salad that you may ever have.

Speaking of the best, the woodfired salmon with broccolini and lemon was one of the best versions my companion had tried, and a surprise to her, the broccolini was incredible.

Other main dishes you might consider are Birnie’s Sliders—A Threesome with wagyu beef, smoked short ribs, roasted chicken and a photogenic lobster pot pie. The spicy rigatoni a la vodka is a fiery dish with Calabrian chili contributing the heat and the tomato and basil mellowing that out.

You can order steaks several ways, from the 32-ounce shareable tomahawk to a 6-ounce petit filet (definitely for one) or a 12-ounce New York steak. Try it Oscar-style or with shrimp if you need a touch of the sea, and grilled onions and mushroom are perfect on nearly everything. Sides like the sautéed asparagus and large onion rings round out the meal.

Desserts are always optional, but the tiramisu, accented with traditional cocoa powder and espresso beans atop the latte-colored mascarpone mixture and ladyfingers, is so good.

Immersive attraction aficionados may also appreciate one of the newest experiences, Superplastic’s Dopeameme Institute for Pleasure Research. In this half-hour experience, you’ll be turned into a test subject to experience an animated universe. With multiple interactive rooms and many paths to choose from, this trippy, toy-themed adventure promises countless opportunities for fun. Once you’ve found your path to pleasure, make your way over to the psychedelic Wink World, a 20-minute walk-through experience full of infinite rooms that present stimulating sights and sounds.

You can get a bird’s-eye view of the main hub of AREA15 on Haley’s Comet, an indoor zipline. Keep your feet off the ground just outside the main entrance at Liftoff, a halflounge/half-ride experience that takes you off the ground for a great vantage point for viewing the valley.

You might be thinking, “Wow, that’s a lot of stuff in one place!” It is, and yet there’s so much more. You’ll find restaurants, bars, even more attractions, shopping and live entertainment pretty much everywhere you look, but if you drop in during an event night, often you can score packages that help you hit all the highlights.

Spend your New Year’s Eve at AREA15’s Masquerade Ball to see each and every event space come to life with hidden lounges, lively dance floors and roaming performers. Janet Jackson launches her latest Vegas residency When Janet Jackson announced in August that her latest Strip residency, Janet Jackson: Las Vegas, would launch the week of New Year’s Eve it seemed as if she had been away from Vegas forever. She hadn’t, as she’s played numerous but mostly private events since the end of the pandemic. She played the last show of her previous Strip residency in August 2019 before COVID canceled any plans for continuance.

Las Vegas will feel like home to Jackson this week when she plays Resorts World Las Vegas, after she spent most of 2024 on her global Together Again tour, which she kicked off in March with three concerts in Honolulu before heading to Asia for shows in the Philippines and Japan. She wrapped the North American leg in Phoenix before finishing the European shows Oct. 10 at Amsterdam’s Ziggo Dome.

fans at a time inside Resorts World Theatre. She had been opening shows with “Night” from 2015’s Unbreakable, following up with a handful of tracks from her post-2000 catalog such as “2nite,” “Rock With U” and “Slolove” in a nearly 40-song set.

If one had to place bets on what to expect from Janet Jackson: Las Vegas, odds would favor an epic length that pivots from Together Again by starting things off with killer dance numbers, say “Rhythm Nation” followed by “When I Think of You,” before segueing into a structure that allows Jackson to tell her life story though lyrics, music and choreography, rather than let others tell it for her.

The third-youngest daughter of the Jackson clan first sang in Vegas at age 7 with sisters Rebbie and La Toya at the old MGM Grand (now Horseshoe Las Vegas). Her future fans watched her grow up with roles on sitcoms Good Times and Diff’rent Strokes before she began her recording career.

It wasn’t until she teamed with producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis that she found chart success. Jam and Lewis had just emancipated themselves from the scripted-reality roles they played as part of Prince’s musical

family in The Time and applied their experience with biographical influence on creativity along with next-level production to the project with Jackson.

The result was a groundbreaking album that laid the blueprint for New Jack Swing and made Jackson a superstar. The title cut from 1986’s Control and follow-up single “Nasty” were both Top Five singles, but on MTV, Jackson was No. 1. Choreography by Paula Abdul raised the bar for videos for dance music, which Jackson kept raising with subsequent videos for “Rhythm Nation” and “The Pleasure Principle.”

Those songs from 1989’s Rhythm Nation 1814 demonstrated Jackson’s shift from introspection to concern with worldly matters and appreciation of sensuality. Those themes would occupy Jackson from then on along with heartbreak (1993’s “That’s the Way Love Goes”) and desire (2001’s “All for You”). One way of another, Jackson has an ongoing musical story to tell and has the ideal platform to tell it with via her headlining Strip residency.

of the year. When my daughters were younger, decorating the house—both inside and out—was the highlight of the season.”

He brings that joyous feeling to Mon Ami Gabi each year in the Bûche de Noël. “At the restaurant, I always take extra care to prepare for the holidays, and one of my favorite traditions is making the Bûche de Noël. As a French chef, crafting these classic yule logs brings me right back to my childhood and the special moments I spent in the kitchen during the holidays.”

For Nicole Brisson, the executive chef and co-owner of Brezza and Bar Zazu at Resorts World Las Vegas, holiday traditions began on Christmas Eve, then continued in the morning.

“When I was young, we would go to midnight mass every year. After, we could open one present before we went to bed. The following morning, my mom would always cook a huge Polish brunch. She would make three different pierogies, babka, kielbasa, and chrusciki, a fried, bow tieshaped pastry,” she says.

“At Brezza, our cannoli shell was inspired by this dessert. My favorite thing to make the evening after brunch was my kielbasa sandwich.

I would take two slices of babka, sliced kielbasa, yellow mustard, and horseradish.” If you head to Bar Zazu this year, you will find several special pop-up menus celebrating Christmas and Hanukkah; no kielbasa sandwich, but latkes, tartare and plenty more.

Resort & Casino, recalls Christmas Eves with his family: “ My mother, being Italian, would cook the feast of the seven fishes—when I say feast I mean feast. My mother would cook for roughly 80 people, and we would have from my father’s side Syrian food, the hand-rolled grape leaves to the stuffed squash and, of course, the Syrian butter cookies. Now picture this, Italian and Arabs sitting down together, the Arabs want the Italian food, and the Italians want the Arab food. Those are some of my greatest memories.” At Barry’s, Dakake serves up Duroc pork tenderloin and red velvet Christmas cheesecake for Christmas.

The chef and co-creator of Border Grill and BBQ Mexicana at Mandalay Bay, Mary Sue Milliken, made a special memory with her business partner Susan Feniger one year: “We had to climb a very tall ladder and sit on a 6-inch ledge—scary—for that photo. We made it into a Christmas card to send to all our customers.”

But it’s not a ladder that Milliken thinks about during the winter season: “My favorite thing about any holiday is the food—not surprising—and cookies with boozy eggnog screams Christmas to me.”

With Dre and Eminem on board, Get Rich or Die Tryin’ debuted at No. 1 in February 2003, revived the gangsta rap genre

with pop chart-ready tracks and positioned 50 Cent to become an entrepreneur extraordinaire.

He endorsed his own flavor of Vitaminwater, began a publishing company and began creating a media empire with an autobiographical fi lm that took its title from the album.

It’s not an unorthodox road for a rapper who suddenly comes into money, but 50 Cent proved to possess a farsightedness and wisdom few of his peers could claim. Alcohol and drug free, he recorded with his group G-Unit and ran his own label as he grew his business interests into an empire.

Now he’s celebrating by rapping in the New Year with six shows in Las Vegas, an accomplishment he’ll likely want to turn into habit.
