Aroundthe District

Our students have reached unprecedented academic heights and we are just getting started! From historic graduation rates to top SAT and ACT scores for the second consecutive year, Glynn County Schools are setting new standards of excellence

Here is a recap of some major moments in the first semester of the 2024-2025 school year:

Middle photo: In September, Superintendent Dr. Scott Spence and Interim President Dr. Johnny Evans renewed the Mariner Life Program's partnership with the College of Coastal Georgia by signing a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This renewal underscores the program’s ongoing commitment to fostering educational and career development for students aged 18-21 with mild to moderate intellectual disabilities.

St. Simons received this award in 1990 and joins Glynn Middle (1984) and BurroughsMolette Elementary (1986) as Blue Ribbon Schools in the district.

Glynn County Schools (GCSS) has launched ParentSquare, a new unified communications platform designed to keep parents and guardians informed and engaged. ParentSquare replaces One Call Now, which we used for over a decade to send notifications. This new platform offers a more streamlined and interactive experience, ensuring you stay connected with your child's education.

If you haven't downloaded the ParentSquare app yet, now is the time! GCSS has sent invite codes via text and email to all parents and guardians with contact information in Infinite Campus. Simply download the app, click the link to join the GCSS ParentSquare account, and sign in. Even without the app, you'll still receive notifications, but having the app enhances your experience. Make sure your contact information is up to date in Infinite Campus to stay in the loop. If you haven't received an invite, please contact your school.

EXCELLENCE REDEFINED

Glynn County Schools have solidified their reputation as a state leader in education, achieving historic milestones in 2024. The district's overall graduation rate soared to 98.7%, the highest in its history, with Brunswick High and Glynn Academy also reporting impressive rates of 99.8% and 97.7%, respectively.

This success is attributed to diverse educational opportunities, including expanded Career, Technical, and Agriculture Education (CTAE) pathways, dual enrollment, and advanced programs.

State School Superintendent Richard Woods praised the Class of 2024 for their resilience and achievements, particularly in light of the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Georgia's high school seniors achieved an all-time high graduation rate of 85.4%, with Glynn County Schools leading the way. Superintendent Woods highlighted the importance of relationships, quality instruction, and community support in these accomplishments.

In addition to graduation rates, Glynn County Schools excelled in standardized testing, achieving the highest median scores in both the SAT and ACT for the second consecutive year. The district surpassed national and state averages, with notable performances in evidence-based reading, writing, and mathematics. Superintendent Woods commended the dedication of students and staff, emphasizing the district's commitment to academic excellence and student success.

"This is a testament to the relationships, quality instruction, and continued support by our teachers, administrators, families, and all staff across Glynn County Schools."

FUNDING THE FUTURE

Glynn County Voters Approve $114.6 Million ESPLOST V to Enhance Schools

Glynn County citizens overwhelmingly demonstrated their support for our schools by approving the continuation of the one-percent sales tax that directly funds our education projects.

Fifty-five percent of voters said “yes” to the ESPLOST V (Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax) at the November 2024 election. The tax is projected to generate up to $114.6 million, which will be allocated to various capital outlay projects.

These projects include additions, renovations, and modernization efforts at Glynn Academy, Sterling Elementary School, Glynn County Stadium, Brunswick High School, Needwood Middle School and Jane Macon Middle School.

Additionally, the funds will be used for the purchase of school buses and other improvements to school system properties. This includes the construction of sidewalks, covered walkways, necessary demolitions, site improvements, land acquisition, and technology upgrades.

The tax collection will commence on April 1, 2025 and will continue for 48 months or until the projected revenue is reached, whichever comes first.

During a recent professional learning session, our district and school leaders participated in a “Build A Car” activity. This exercise highlighted how each role contributes to the overall success and functionality of our schools, much like each part of a car is essential for it to run smoothly.

Our teams collaborated to create a car that symbolizes our collective spirit and dedication to education Another example of how we build a #strongerglynn
