The Albion Desktop Globe is made in a variety of sizes to fit your desktop, shelf or table. This guide is for our 22cm Mini Desk Globe.

Bellerby & Co’s team of cartographers and artists will work with you one on one to design your bespoke globe. Because each globe is made to order, the map will always be up to date to the time of making.

Any colour of globe can be paired with any base. Every base features an innovative roller bearing system, permitting 360 degree movement in any direction by hand.

Globes were always traditionally commissioned as a pair. We also offer a Celestial globe which features beautiful hand drawn representations of our heavenly bodies illustrated in exquisite detail. 88 hand painted constellations adorn our unique globe forming the perfect complement, and customary partner, to its terrestrial brother. We also have a Moon globe and undertake one-off commissions of all kinds.

Your globe can be personalised in many ways. Please see the final pages of this document for inspiration and a further explanation. We will work with you through a design and approval process to create your own one of a kind globe.

In this document you will see a wide range of the suggested colour options for the land and sea. Each hand painted globe is paired with a hand turned and hand finished wood or metal base. We offer a range of woods and finishes - as well as an options in solid Aluminium, Titanium, Brass, Copper and Bronze.

The Albion Desk Globes have a matte finish with a resin seal which enables you to to safely touch and spin your globe.

The Moon

Using the latest data collected by the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter camera, our Lunar globe presents the moon in exquisite detail. Major features such as seas, mountain ranges and bays are labelled alongside over 600 individual craters (over 700 on the 36cm). Locations of all current known landing sites are marked with a key indicating the space program they belong to. Our Lunar Edition globe is available in either 22cm or 36cm diameter.

Personalisation

Text Edits

10 cartography edits are included in the commission of a 22cm globe.

Cartography edits are text-based edits to the map and can include anything from adding a special town or place that might not otherwise be on the map to highlighting special places in a colour so they stand out.

All major cities and capitals are on the map as standard but you might want to add a small town, the suburb, your university name, or a remote island you discovered on an adventure.

For example New York City is on the map but Brooklyn is not, unless requested.

Los Angeles is on the map but Venice Beach, Santa Monica and Malibu are not (as they are within Los Angeles).

We can highlight the place name in a differing colour, or just make sure it is on the map as normal.

If you would like place names or markers to be differing colours to stand out, we suggest a Claret Red for good visibility (shown in photo) or changing the place-markers to a different style, such as a heart. Warm colours will always stand out more (Reds, Oranges, Purples) rather than cooler colours (Blue, Green, Grey).

Illustrations

We offer bespoke illustrations which are hand-drawn and hand-painted.

Along with other bespoke requests like travel routes, this design work will be quoted on top of the price of the globe.

The decision to add further detail to your commission can be made after you place your order, and we provide mockups for approval on placement, sizing and style before your globe is made.

Illustrations are hand drawn and hand painted in colour unless requested in sepia tones or black and white.

For illustrations you are welcome to send references for us to draw and paint from (your dog, your house...) or just give written descriptions by email. Please include as much detail as possible; for example, if you are requesting a full wine glass please mention the colour, and if you are requesting a person, specify the hair colour and any other features.

Travel Routes

We can plot any type of travel route. This includes road trips, cruises, flights, and historical journeys.

You can choose to add an illustration of the relevant vessel and the name of the route, dates, as well as specify the styling.

Design work to plot and place travel routes with be quoted on top of the price of your globe.

Base Engraving

Included with your commission is an engraving that sits in the base on a circular disc.

You see it when you lift the globe from its base. This space is perfect for names, dates or a short quote.

The base holds up to around 60 charactersthe more characters the smaller the lettering. The wording will be centred on the disc and spaced to fit.

Please provide your engraving exactly as you’d like it - with or without quotation marks - including the punctuation as you want it to appear.

This globe has 196 hand drawn and hand painted illustrations covering the globe top to bottom.

This globe will never be replicated the same with everything handmade and hand painted it would be impossible! However a bespoke version or variation of this globe can also be ordered in any size (22cm, 36cm, 50cm, 65cm, 80cm or 127cm diameter) and with any colour ocean / land you see across our collections.

Customers can commission their own unique version with added illustrations like ships, monuments, your own house, your pets or family portraits as well as travel routes and bespoke cartography like quotes, dates, names, or favourite cities highlighted.

What’s new?

A recently completed contemporary base in Stainless Steel the globe is 80cm (31.5 inches) in diameter and the colour is Glacial Blue with a matte finish.

The base can also be made in Aluminium or Brass in a variety of finishes.

This globe has been custom made to be fitted to a yacht and be safe at sea. It has added personalisation like hand drawn and hand painted illustrations that are bespoke to this globe.

For those who like the less traditional.

The Whittaker. A 36cm, 50cm or 65cm diameter globe sits on ball bearings so it can be spun 360 degrees in a fluid motion by hand and lifted directly from its base.

This modern and playful base is forged from a solid piece of Aluminium and can have a brushed or aeronautical polish.
