Dubai's well known friendly celebrity, Big Rossi, was born into music and known as a popular radio DJ but there is more to this gentle giant who is currently expanding his horizons as a partner at Salties, a fun filled “festive place” where he looks forward to sharing memorable moments with his fans from across the seven Emirates.
Rossi, a golden visa holder from the UAE loves spending time with friends and family and prefers meaningful engagements while breaking bread or from behind the decks entertaining crowds. This is something that he started from the age of 18, when he went to work in Corfu, sent by his mother with a plastic bag of CD’s.

KEEP REINVENTING AND CHANGING THE RULES OF THE GAME
As we come to the last quarter of 2022, we naturally look back to assess what we did through the year, the results we had and if our life today is better than the year before.
Our oxygen is to always do things that make us happy, and often we need to diversify to feel content and productive.
In this issue, our cover story is with Big Rossi, a radio DJ and Partner at Salties who decided to expand his horizons and explore the world of hospitality. We are excited to bring you his story and his new journey in the F&B industry.
We also bring you content in this issue that has given us good insights and made us smile. From my return to Miami yet again for a dose of technology, cars and retail therapy to sampling dishes in the city's best restaurants, driving the latest cars and exploring new technology trends. We hope our stories bring you joy.
As always, we feature experts in the areas of management, self-
development, technology and retail. We hope you enjoy our pages on accessories, watches and get some nice gifting ideas.
November is always an exciting month for me personally as a member of the Jury with the World Car of the Year Awards. I meet my peers in Los Angeles this time every year to test drive the latest cars up in the mountains driving from the Angeles Crest Highway.
Connecting with my fellow jury and motoring media abroad gives me joy and acceptance and I get to drive cars that are harder to get from the brands in our region.
Like Rossi in our cover story, let us keep on reinventing, exploring, building, restarting and working hard towards our goals as we journey towards the end of 2022.

Staying close to customers helps to know them better. This helps to anticipate what they would need or what they would not even think that they would need. This retains and develops business, increases the number of return guests and its ratio, which becomes the base business of the luxury organizations. When engagement is leveraged, it helps the organizations to anticipate guest needs and fulfill them before they are demanded so that the customers are surprised, delighted, return and furthermore spread the positive word about the organizations.

If they learn, they have a takeaway out of the experience; and they ensure there won’t be any potential dissatisfaction around that particular product or service again in the future.

LOYALTY THROUGH ENGAGEMENT
LOYALTY THROUGH ENGAGEMENT
When there is a strong engagement, customers will not look for an alternative to organizations. They will continue to be loyal. However, when they do not find someone to talk about their experiences at the present time or in the future because engagement is not the tactical model of the business plan of the enterprises, they will certainly look for someone in another organization to engage with and talk. This is partly how the business shifts from one organization to another.

SOME OF QASR AL WATAN’S
PRICELESS PRESIDENTIAL GIFTS
Walking through the Palace of the Nation, visitors can view a unique collection of diplomatic gifts that echo the diversity and cultures of many of the world's nations. Each gift is carefully chosen and considers the culture, religion and personal taste of the person receiving it, and reveals valuable information about the cultures and economies they represent. Many of the gifts on display at Qasr Al Watan are inspired by the purpose of a state or diplomatic visit.
This photo gallery gives you a sneak peek into some of the distinctive gifts visitors can enjoy at Qasr Al Watan’s Presidential Gifts Exhibition:
FALCONS
A symbol of strength and national heritage, the falcon is one of the most important animals associated with the identity of the UAE. In the past, it was an important form of hunting, while today it is one of the most honored sports in the

country and is associated with the Arab values of courage, honor and nobility. For instance, falcon masks are used when hunting to cover the eyes of the falcon to calm it down during travel. The masks seen here have been gifted by Germany, a renowned manufacturer for falconry equipment.
WEAPONS
Traditional weapons play an important role in the communication of the history and heritage of the United Arab Emirates. Alongside their practical use for hunting and protection, local swords, daggers and rifles have social and cultural significance and can communicate identity and status. These weapons are often gifted as a sign of respect.
EMBLEMS
Symbols rich in cultural meaning are often used in diplomacy. Every country has emblematic places, icons, or features that represent their national pride. Due to their cultural importance or their symbolic meaning, they epitomize the identity of a nation. On display is a Model
of Petra, gifted by Jordan, and an etching emblem from the Vatican City State to name but two.
SACRED SYMBOLS
Gifts of Friendship, Mutual Respect and Tolerance
Other items gifted represent the culture of the country or a specific religion. The gifts are not intended to be elaborate but represent a gesture of friendship, mutual respect and tolerance.
Over the centuries the Holy Qur’an has been highly valued as a diplomatic gift due to its importance as the religious text of Islam. The incorporation of different types of binding, material and ornamentation add an artistic dimension to it.
Due to the importance of Islam in the region, religious manuscripts have been a symbol of diplomacy. Various artistic elements are added with the inclusion of binding, material, and ornamentation.
In the religion or Holy Quran display case,
a black cover can be seen embroidered in gold. The golden embroidery is a verse from the Holy Quran and the black cover itself is part of the dressing of the Kaaba which is the holiest place for Muslims; located in Mecca in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The dressing changes on a yearly basis and is called the Kiswa. What can be seen on display is a gift from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and is a small part of the larger dressing.
Carpets from Turkmenistan, ornamental vases from the Phoenician era, and a gold wreath that can be traced back to ancient Macedonia are just a few of the priceless possessions you can find at Qasr Al Watan. Visit Qasr Al Watan to see a distinctive assortment of diplomatic gifts received from heads of state and foreign dignitaries across the years.

KING ABDULAZIZ AIRPORT’S EXPANSION AMONG THE WORLD’S TOP-5
Airport developments and investment are under a sharp focus with renewed vigour and vitality in Saudi Arabia, the Middle East’s largest aviation market, which is projected to have the fastest passenger traffic growth until 2040.
Saudi Arabia has been featured on the list of the global airport construction market that is projected to reach US$1.4 trillion by 2026, even as airport and airline managements look at new ideas and partnerships to leverage the industry’s huge growth potential after the pandemic brought the aviation sector to a standstill over the previous two years.
The role of aviation in achieving Saudi Vision 2030; Preparing the Kingdom’s Air Transport Strategy for the Next Decade;
Stakeholder collaboration to achieve the Saudi Aviation Strategy; Pioneering aviation sustainability in the oil-rich kingdom and Digital Disruption and Innovation in the Aviation Sector will be amongst the widely debated topics at the two-day Future Airport Development and Investment Summit taking place alongside the Saudi Airport Exhibition to be held at Al Faisaliah Hotel in Riyadh on November 7 and 8.
The Summit will host over 300 delegates and will take place against the background of a total of 633 active projects at existing airports globally, with US$565.7 billion investments. At the start of 2022, 1,038 airport projects were identified to be at various stages of development, including 452 in execution.
According to GlobalData, the total pipeline of new airport construction projects had a combined value of US$1.64 trillion while the global fleet of aircraft is projected to touch 36,500 aircraft by 2031 and the global airport construction market size has been revised to US$1.4 trillion by 2026.
Saudi Arabia is undertaking a massive airport expansion and upgrade programme to serve 330 million travellers by 2030 through US$147 billion investments that will support US$82.3 billion of GDP by 2037. The Kingdom’s prized possession, King Abdulaziz International Airport, is being expanded and tops the list of the world’s 50 biggest airport construction projects

VAT OBLIGATIONS FOR ARTISTS SOCIAL MEDIA INFLUENCERS
JAY KRISHNAN
EXPERT OPINION
| 18 | Global Trend Monitor | 18 | Global Trend Monitor
As the UAE witnesses a rise in number of career opportunities in the performing arts industry and for social media influencers, UAE authorities recognize the impact these roles have on society and have set guidelines and introduced compliances for the industry, especially tax implications. Value Added Tax (VAT) was introduced in the UAE beginning of 2018 at a rate of 5 percent.
WHO ARE SOCIAL MEDIA INFLUENCERS?
The Federal Tax Authority defines artists as performers, singers, dancers, stage artists, make-up artists, DJs, poets, song writers or individuals doing similar activities and Social Media Influencers as individuals who provide their services using social media to promote products and services such as bloggers, instagrammers and YouTube hosts.
As per the new law, all UAE-based Artists and SMIs who make taxable supplies (which include zero-rated supplies) in the UAE are required to register for VAT provided the value of their taxable supplies and imports in the last 12 months exceed or is expected to exceed AED 375,000 (mandatory registration threshold) or AED 187,500 (voluntary registration threshold) in the next 30 days.
VAT will be chargeable on all supplies (Services) made by Artists and SMI’s subject to the UAE VAT Laws and would attract VAT at the appropriate rates.
Services such as online promotional
activities, marketing and advertising related activities would be considered as supplies made by SMI’s and VAT would be applicable.
For calculating the threshold, the Artists and SMIs should take into consideration all the taxable supplies that they make, even if such supplies do not fall within the scope of their core artistic or influencer activity.
Once the Artists and SMIs is registered for VAT, a Tax invoice is required to be raised for all standard rate supplies made. This includes online promotional activities, videos, blog or social media posts, paid physical appearances, or any publicity activities.
Artists and SMIs making taxable supplies are eligible for a full recovery of input VAT, except for blocked items such as Certain entertainment services and motor vehicles that are available for personal use.
NON-RESIDENT SOCIAL MEDIA INFLUENCERS
We reccomend that Non-resident Artists and social media influencers who act in their personal capacity should check whether the services are provided to VAT registered recipient or not in the UAE.
If the recipient is VAT registered, then the recipient is obliged to account for VAT under the reverse charge mechanism, however if the service is to an unregistered recipient, they will be required to register for VAT in the UAE immediately and charge VAT on the supply.
If an Artist or SMI receives goods in return for their services, the goods are treated as consideration for the services. At the same time, where the person supplying the goods to the Artist or SMI in exchange for the services is registered for VAT, such person will also need to account for VAT on the supply of goods.
ACTING THROUGH AGENTS
In addition, where a VAT registered Artist or SMI does not charge any consideration
for its services, it should consider the provisions related to deemed supplies and account for VAT if the supply falls within the meaning of a deemed supply. Or if an Artist or SMI owns an event management company, then the company should only account for VAT on the supplies made by the company. The individual is considered distinct from the company and is responsible to account for VAT only on the supplies made in his personal capacity.
In summary, if an Artist or SMI has an agent and the agent acts in the name of and on behalf of the Artist or SMI, The Artist or SMI must account for VAT on the entire amount charged to the client and the agent must account for VAT on the fee or commission charged to the Artist or SMI.
If an Artist or SMI has an agent the agent acts in its own name and contracts with the client on one hand and with the Artist or SMI on the other hand, The Artist or SMI must account for VAT on the amount charged to the agent and the agent must account for VAT on the amount charged to the client.
In conclusion, if a UAE-resident Artist or SMI is contracted by a UAE-based company to provide advertising services, the service would attract VAT at 5% even where the advertising service is performed outside the UAE.
VAT WILL BE CHARGEABLE ON ALL SUPPLIES (SERVICES) MADE BY ARTISTS AND SMI’S SUBJECT TO THE UAE VAT LAWS AND WOULD ATTRACT VAT AT THE APPROPRIATE RATES. SERVICES SUCH AS ONLINE PROMOTIONAL ACTIVITIES, MARKETING AND ADVERTISING RELATED ACTIVITIES WOULD BE CONSIDERED AS SUPPLIES MADE BY SMI’S AND VAT WOULD BE APPLICABLE.
Global Trend Monitor | 19 | | 19 | Global Trend Monitor
FOR CALCULATING THE THRESHOLD, THE ARTISTS AND SMIS SHOULD TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION ALL THE TAXABLE SUPPLIES THAT THEY MAKE, EVEN IF SUCH SUPPLIES DO NOT FALL WITHIN THE SCOPE OF THEIR CORE ARTISTIC OR INFLUENCER ACTIVITY.
7 WAYS MULTI-CLOUD CAN HELP CLOSE THE INNOVATION-GAP
By: Ahmed Auda Vice President and General Manager, Middle East, Turkey, and North Africa, VMware
The benefits of using technology to innovate and get ahead of the competition are clear, but despite this, few organisations have yet to truly harness the potential of their data.
According to 100 C-suite executives in Forbes Top 2000 companies, surveyed by VMware, nearly three-quarters (70%) of businesses admitted they are struggling to unlock the value of their data – directly impacting their ability to innovate.
Organisations looking to close the gap
between originating ideas and delivering them into the business by doing more with their data, should turn their attention to the cloud.
Here are seven ways multi-cloud can help close the innovation-gap – by helping businesses move, store, utilise and thus monetise their data, irrespective of where it resides.
1. EASE OF MANAGEMENT
As customers embrace the multi-cloud
model, they discover that greater choice can lead to a big spike in complexity.
Businesses on this cloud journey need to move from being ‘cloud first’ – with a big focus on building customer-facing apps in a single cloud – to ‘cloud smart’- where they have the freedom to choose the best cloud environments for their applications, with consistent management for security and control, and a cost-efficient use of private and public clouds.
TECHNOLOGY
| 20 | Global Trend Monitor
2. FREEDOM OF CHOICE
Organisations don’t want to have to plan their entire cloud/IT/digital journey upfront; they want the freedom to adapt as their business needs evolve.
That means having the freedom to adjust data utilisation as required rather having to compromise on decision making by being locked into one cloud. A true multi-cloud strategy enables companies to incorporate the right mix of onpremises, private, public and edge cloud environments to meet their needs.
3. AGILITY
As part of that freedom to choose any cloud, organisations should be able to move both new and existing apps quickly and easily to a cloud, with zero or minimal refactoring. Requirements and services are continuously evolving, and a company’s multi-cloud infrastructure must be able to evolve as well. This also reduces friction linked to the migration
of data, allowing the agility required to access and use data flexibly, and at speed.
4. TIME TO VALUE
The nature of business today means workloads must be up and running on any cloud quickly and easily. Being locked into a multi-year contract with a cloud provider and not consuming resources in the way they anticipated, hampers the ability of the business to move quickly. Instead, organisations should be able to consume cloud at the right pace to meet their spend commitment, avoiding wasted expenditure and allowing them to tap into required data sets when needed.
5. SECURITY
Security is a top priority for businesses. Being able to proactively monitor, detect and remediate security across clouds is critical. It should be baked into the platforms that organisations are using in a way that ensures upgrades happen on time, with support to minimise disruption in the event of an attack.
This directly ties into the uptime and resilience required to manage data effectively, across workloads and at all times.
6. SOVEREIGNTY
The distribution and storage of data between organisations and beyond national boundaries has become an obstacle to its protection and utilisation. Having access to a sovereign cloud can provide the guarantees and assurances around these legal requirements, opening up the possibilities of innovation to entire
industries that previously had no access to cloud services.
7. FUTURE-PROOFING
No-one knows what new innovation the future will bring, not even two or three years ahead. Businesses need to be agile to respond to evolving opportunities and new challenges.
With a multi-cloud platform, they will be equipped to adapt every part of their organisation as needed, including tech infrastructure and data management capacities, to have those same capabilities.
By deploying a multi-cloud approach, organisations can give themselves the foundations they need to make better use of their data today, and for what’s around the corner, and in doing so, finally close the innovation-execution gap.
THE NATURE OF BUSINESS TODAY MEANS WORKLOADS MUST BE UP AND RUNNING ON ANY CLOUD QUICKLY AND EASILY. | 21 | Global Trend Monitor

Recently we ventured to the `IFS Unleashed' conference in Miami where we learnt from experts how IFS products help companies around the world who manufacture and distribute goods, build and maintain assets, and manage service-focused operations.
The IFS industry specific products are innately connected to a single data model and use embedded digital innovation so that IFS clients can be their best when it really matters to their customers. The IFS products transform operations, work efficiently and liberate staff while IFS Cloud helps to reduce the time, effort, and resource burden while increasing the quality of work and experience.
For instance, the IFS Cloud provides organizations intelligent insights and accelerates automation efforts. The enhancements done continually on products support end-to-end process automation and advanced analytics capabilities that impact organizations across functions.
We ask Mehmood Khan, Managing Director of IFS Middle East South Asia about IFS in the region. Mehmood has over 20 years’ experience in advising companies in digital transformation and new technology. He has played a key instrumental role in growing the IFS business in the Middle East and South Asia in the time he has been with IFS and continues to bring value to customers across the region. Today he operates with a vision to grow and diversify business in the MESA region.
HOW IS IFS TECHNOLOGY ENABLING REMOTE WORKING?
Our region, the Middle East, is notorious for wanting people on site with a culture of operations on site, but the pandemic has forced a culture change. At IFS we do not just provide back-office solutions in finance and HR but we get involved with organisations in all aspects. Whether they are manufacturing naval vessels or maintaining aircraft, what we found is that our customers could actually continue operations even with minimal staff capacity. And that is the same with offshore oil driller companies that work with us in the Middle East.
Post pandemic, some of our customers have realized that a core function like engineering and design does not have to be close to operations. People think about outsourcing HR or outsourcing certain components of payroll. Companies are now outsourcing engineering and design work maybe between India, maybe to Sweden, maybe to the US because they've realized through this process, getting skills in one place is very difficult.
We enable this through technology by getting skills where they are. It is costeffective with the same quality product at the end. And so companies are starting to change, which is interesting in the Middle East.
we even anticipated, but that's a good challenge.
WHAT KEY TRENDS ARE YOU NOTICING CURRENTLY AND WHAT ARE YOUR USPS THAT ARE HELPING YOU GROW IN THE GCC REGION?
IFS has been in the Middle East for quite a while, since the early 2000, and in the last five years we started investing heavily in the region. We opened offices in Riyadh, in Muscat and we have our head office based out of Dubai. We are focused on certain industries like aerospace and defence being our largest industry and we have great response from our customers. We are the only platform that provides an end-to-end aerospace and defence solution, all the way from ERP to MRO manufacturing.
WHICH INDUSTRIES ARE CURRENTLY MOST RESPONSIVE TO IFS PRODUCTS AND HOW DOES IFS SOFTWARE HELP BUSINESSES RENEW THEIR FOCUS ON SUPPLY CHAIN VALIDATION?
We are starting on our journey into many industries and energy is one of our core focus areas. A lot of the countries in the GCC are diversifying and that means that oil majors are looking at joint ventures to start onboarding a lot of those capabilities that were run by external companies. But most importantly, we extend processes into client’s operations and asset management operations, so they have a single platform. Also, the largest telco in the region has chosen IFS for service management to make sure that they serve up to 10 million customers. We were growing faster than
Customers are looking for finance, HR and procurement solutions and our HR solution can tell you if the candidate has the right qualifications, if he/she can do the job and if the resources to do it are available. We have end to end solutions which is our key USP.
We are changing as fast as regulations change with the ability to deploy on cloud and enable customers to track their progress as they want quick results.
TELL US HOW IFS CLOUD IS ENABLING A FAST-TRACKED ADOPTION OF DIGITAL CAPABILITIES AND UPDATING THE SOLUTIONS AS YOU REVEAL NEW INNOVATIONS.
Well, it really depends on the case of the migration that the company wants. You should never just update the technology for the sake of doing it as it must have business value. We encourage adopting good business processes customised to the needs of the business and we offer either updates where its required or innovations that can transform businesses and their capabilities for the better.
For instance, an organization's environmental, social, and governance goals are always in the spotlight. IFS tools and innovations provide the data to show progress against commitments and demonstrate accountability and transparency. We help clients who are focused on ESG goals and making an impact on the planet.

Tiqets, the leading international online booking platform for museum & attraction experiences has come to our rescue many times for last minute bookings while on holiday. Tiqets’ mission is to make culture more accessible by making it easier for people to discover more ways to access culture, and the company works with both hidden gems and top museums and attractions all over the world.
Recently Tiqets announced the winners for the 6th annual Remarkable Venue Awards (RVAs), which celebrates the best museums and attractions in nine countries around the world. The UAE winners include the Louvre Abu Dhabi, Dubai Frame, The National Aquarium Abu Dhabi, and La Perle by Dragone. We
connect with Ankur Thakuria, Regional Director APAC and ME, Tiqets and speak to him about how Tiqets connects millions of people to museums and attractions with instant, last-minute and mobile tickets. Ankur has been with Tiqets since 2017, where he started out leading the expansion in key Southeast Asian destinations and is now responsible for many of the company’s key markets, including Dubai, Singapore and Australia. He shares with us his thoughts for the Middle Eastern market.
HOW MANY UAE VENUES ARE CURRENTLY AVAILABLE ON TIQETS.COM?
We have over 250 live experiences listed on Tiqets.com for the UAE at this moment. The number of experiences is still growing as we continue to expand in the region and into new categories. Tiqets currently offers mobile bookings to more than 7,000 of the best experiences worldwide in 1,300 cities across the globe.
WHICH TYPES OF VENUES SEEM TO BE RECEIVING THE MOST TICKET SALES?
Our top selling categories in the UAE are attractions like the observation decks, museums & theme parks. Some of our top partners in the UAE include ‘At The Top’ (Burj Khalifa), The View at the Palm, Dubai Parks, Louvre Abu Dhabi, Ferrari World, etc. This category is closely followed by Desert Safari & Cruise experiences.
HOW MAJOR IS THE BOOST IN TERMS OF TICKET PURCHASING TO UAE ATTRACTIONS SINCE TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS HAVE EASED?
Some of our top venue partners have seen sales growth on Tiqets by over 200% this year compared to 2019 numbers. The UAE was among the first countries around the world to relax travel restrictions and that has clearly benefited the local tourism industry. Our sales numbers surpassed
pre-pandemic levels quite early this year and we have hit record numbers for many of our venue partners in 2022 owing to a strong demand in inbound tourist arrivals.
IN YOUR OPINION, HOW DO VENUES IN THE UAE STACK UP TO THE REST OF THE WORLD?
Venues in the UAE are in a strong position given the growing demand for Dubai as a destination for inbound tourists. Compared to venues in many of the legacy destination cities like London, Paris & New York, venues in Dubai are doing well and have maintained a strong track record since their reopening after covid lockdowns.
With the increased focus on international arrivals, there’s also a strong willingness from customers to visit more venues during their holidays. We know this as we have seen an increase in average customer spend per order for our sales in Dubai & Abu Dhabi.
Since the reopening in 2021 – 2022, demand for the UAE has seen such a big growth on Tiqets that we’ve expanded our annual Tiqets’ Remarkable Venue Awards to include the UAE as a market this year which was very well received by partners in the region.
BUSINESS BEEN
SINCE
Tiqets’ overall growth has been exponential this year compared to 2019. As mentioned, we surpassed our 2019 numbers quite early this year. In the UAE, to date in 2022, Tiqets’ has recorded an increase of over 220% in terms of absolute ticket sales numbers compared to 2019. And the peak season has just started for this year, so we hope to close the year even stronger in the UAE.

TROPICAL TEMPTATIONS
MEMORABLE MOMENTS IN MIAMI

Miami is always a pleasure to be in but this year, I was able to combine my work in the technology industry with a dose of the Miami Auto Show. As I am passionate about all things related to cars, this naturally elevated my Miami experience. In the past, I would spend hours navigating through the famous Dezer collection, but it was exciting being able to see a lot more interesting cars this year via the motor show.

Naturally I love the Dezer Collection which keeps adding unique pieces during each visit. Then a visit to the Everglades National Park, a 1.5 million-acre ecosystem of subtropical jungle and the warm waters of Florida Bay offers a good dose of greenery which I crave for when I am sitting in my office all day.

NATURAL SANCTUARY BLED IN SLOVENIA
By Shereen Shabnam
One of my most memorable travel destinations recently was Slovenia with Turkish Airlines. The first stop was at a lake town called Bled, a popular tourist destination in Slovenia known for its emerald green lake, a medieval castle and a wonderful restaurant on top of a mountain with picturesque views.
On arrival, we had an enchanting boat ride across the lake, which is the highlight of a visit to Bled. It is best to take some time to take in the ambience, watch the swans and ducks on the lakes
and enjoy the lush green mountains in the distance.
A hike up a hill followed the boat ride as we climbed a stone staircase with 99 steps to have lunch with panoramic views and a visit to take pictures of the waterfront, the church of assumption and the castle of Bled.
The Bled Castle is the oldest castle in Slovenia. There is also a museum at the top with the history of the castle, some interesting fossils and archaeological
findings and a tempting gift shop selling food and the arts and crafts of Bled.
Being a food lover, I stopped to taste the famous Kremsnita cake, which was as delectable as the locals claimed and better than any cream cake I have ever sampled during my travels.
Adventure tourists will enjoy the famous hiking trails that start from Bled. They are called Pokljika, Mount Stol and Triglav. For those on the look out for picturesque views, The Vintgar Gorge

has a scenic route that is serene with a lovely waterfall.
Some sites I wanted to visit but missed out on are the Postojna Cave Predjama Castle and the Lipica Stud Farm that produces horses for the Spanish Riding School in Vienna. Visitors from the Middle East who love equestrian sports can enjoy tours, rides and lessons that
cover dressage and how to control horses.
Lake Bled is an ideal destination for a perfect summers day. Dress casual and comfortable to make the most of the visit as the activities involve rowing, hiking, exploring and enjoying the photography opportunities.

MEMORABLE MALTA
THE PERFECT DESTINATION FOR YOUNG ADULTS
By Natasha Dury
The highlight of my summer holidays was exploring Malta, which is a fantastic destination for young adults like me as there are so many places to visit, cool boutique hotels to stay in, beautiful beaches with great sun and sea indulgence and some of the best youth festivals in Europe. We curate some of the best places young adults can enjoy.
SUN, SEA AND SAND
Beaches in Malta range from golden sands to long stretches of rock dropping into beautifully clear blue waters perfect for snorkelling, diving, windsurfing, paragliding and other water sports.
We loved sailing near Comino’s Blue Lagoon and exploring caves during a day-long boat trip with lunch on board. We saw a lot of on-island activities like rock climbing and mountain biking too.
Situated between Malta and Gozo, the smaller island of Comino is a paradise that is car-free and very popular with day-trippers. Comino is ideal for walkers
and photographers because of the nature and beauty of the island.
CUISINE
The culinary scene in Malta is like the
traditional Mediterranean cuisine. The fish is straight from the sea, and we became a big fan of the delicious seasonal fish, lampuka. Our meals ranged from meat stews to fresh pastas,

pastries and pizzas as well as quality vegetarian cuisine.
LOCAL SITES
We stayed in Valetta and visited the beautiful St John's Cathedral there in the afternoon and dinner by the harbour in the evening.
After a leisurely breakfast the next day, we then visited the Three Cities (Vittoriosa, Senglea and Cospicua) in the morning.
Malta has a vibrant festival scene. In fact, almost every part of the different islands had a festive feel with musical events being promoted. For instance, located on the Maltese coast, north of Valletta, St. Julian's or San Giljan has a thriving nightlife with lovely restaurants and great entertainment for young people., especially the summer fiestas.
POPEYE ISLAND
Popeye Village Malta was magical. A purpose-built film set from a 1980 musical, it is now a village that has been converted into a small attraction fun park, consisting of a collection of rustic wooden buildings.
On the day we visited, the site had a festive atmosphere with music and children's activities.
MALTA NATIONAL AQUARIUM
With tanks full of reptiles, insects, amphibians, and thousands of Mediterranean fish and an intriguing collection of historical artifacts, the Malta National Aquarium is perfect for families and young adults who love aquariums, and we suggest hopping across to the Bird Park for the ultimate animal experience.
GETTING THERE AND GETTING AROUND
We flew to Malta with Turkish Airlines via Istanbul and the connection was seamless. Once in Malta, buses go almost everywhere including to the Gozo ferry that takes you to the laid back and friendly island.
We thoroughly enjoyed the Yippee experience - which is a tuktuk tour organised by Yippee Malta offering a fun and authentic way of experiencing the island of Gozo.
However you travel around Malta, getting around is so easy and hassle-free, and I'm sure you will find your journey full of many delightful surprises.

LAP OF LUXURY
GSTAAD
By Shereen Shabnam
After a few days of rest and relaxation in Zermatt, Switzerland, I was keen to introduce my teenager, who loves snow and cold weather, to Gstaad. After exploring numerous parts of the country using the Swiss Pass on the way to Gstaad, before venturing to Gstaad, we arrived at a quaint railway station where our driver was waiting to take us to Huus Gstaad, which is one of the most welcoming and homely hotels in the area.
Gstaad is a playground for holidaymakers who prefer a touch of exclusivity for their holiday experiences in a unique landscape that is full of tradition, sports, delectable cuisine and culture. A walk around the town is the perfect

antidote to cheer oneself up while trying out hand-made chocolates and local cheese platters.
To many, Gstaad is known as a major ski resort and a popular destination amongst high society and the international jet set but it is a perfect place for adventure tourism as well.
While my teenager enjoyed river rafting thanks to the wonderful staff of the Huus Gstaad Hotel, my favourite part of the visit was going up the mountains for tobogganing, watching my daughter try different games and inhaling the fresh crisp air that makes the lungs feel good.
The countryside in Gstaad offers a versatile and diverse sports programme with hiking, mountain biking, paragliding and golf. Gstaad is also a wellness destination and guarantees an unsurpassed variety of leisure activities, spas, healthy cuisine, sports centres and indoor swimming pools.
Set amongst soaring mountains and prestigious international boarding schools, Gstaad is a popular holiday destination for royalty and celebrities. Cable cars connect surrounding ski areas such as Wispile and Rinderberg, with hundreds of kilometers of all-level pistes and cross-country trails.
We started our journey at the centre of Gstaad, which is the most popular and fell in love with the shortest “shopping mile” in Switzerland. With luxury hotels, gourmet restaurants, luxury chalets, the car-free resort was a delight as we walked along the picturesque promenade, tried some of the local delicacies and explored the local galleries and exclusive shops.
Retail therapy in Gstaad is a delight with designer stores that include Louis Vuitton, Hermes, Chopard, Brunello Cucinelli, Prada, Moncler, Ralph Lauren, and Cartier as well as boutiques that stock labels such as Chloe, Dolce & Gabbana, Tod's,
Food lovers will be happy to note that Gstaad is also a paradise for fine diners, with more than 100 restaurants ranging from cosy raclette restaurants to acclaimed gourmet venues. Our most memorable meal was a five-course meal at Ultima Gstaad.
Leaving Gstaad is not easy because the heart and soul are left with the indelible imprint of the wonderful views from cosy terraces, the picturesque mountains, fresh alpine air, gourmet cuisine, indoor games near warm fireplaces and outdoor adventures.
Each time I visualise a perfect holiday now, my mind wanders to the warmth of the staff and the cosy lobby area of Huus Gstaad. It is this ultimate hospitality that makes it a destination that attracts visitors back to the beautiful alpine heaven more than once.

DELECTABLE DELIGHTS AT FARZI CAFE
AN EVENING WITH ZORAWAR KALRA, FOUNDER & MANAGING DIRECTOR, MASSIVE RESTAURANTS PVT. LTD.
Zorawa Kalra, India's spice and flavour king and a name that commands respect in the Indian hospitality industry, is in the process of perfecting the science of molecular gastronomy. The face of Massive Restaurants, Mr. Kalra proudly tells the tale of a brand that majestically owns and operates trendsetting and critically acclaimed restaurants.
We recently spent an evening trying a few dishes at Farzi Cafe talking about food and how dishes have evolved over the years with Zorawar.
Counted as one of the youngest, most successful restaurateurs of India, Zorawar reinvents Indian cuisine with his strong business acumen and a rich heritage spanning over four decades.
December 2012 was a milestone for him, as it saw the launch of Massive Restaurants Pvt. Ltd., which in its first year of operations won over 19 prestigious awards under various categories. Zorawar
Kalra has also been a judge on Masterchef India Season 5.
Reviving Indian cuisine and now putting it on the global food map, he holds the recipe for success, delectable food and humility. With a Master’s in Business Administration from Boston's Bentley Business University, his proclivity towards path-breaking edible creations hails from his genetic love for food.
With an entrepreneurial bent of mind and the new encyclopaedia for all things food, he has ostensibly studied the Indian food & beverage market, introducing some of the most genre-defining restaurant concepts India has ever seen.
Our favourite remains the multiaward winning, critically acclaimed, revolutionary modern Indian bistro Farzi Café, best described as a gourmet experience, amalgamating traditional global cuisine, with Indian influences, contemporary presentations, culinary

FEMININITY, ARTISTRY AND CREATIVITY
CORALIE CHARRIOL PAUL - CREATIVE DIRECTOR, ACTING CEO AND EXECUTIVE CHAIRWOMAN AT CHARRIOL
By Shereen Shabnam
Coralie Charriol Paul sits at the helm of prestigious luxury timepieces, fine jewelry, and accessories, Maison Charriol, founded in 1983 by her father, the French entrepreneur Phillipe Charriol. As Creative Director, Executive Chairwoman and Acting CEO of the company, Coralie sets the strategic and creative priorities for the business, pursuing her father’s legacy in guiding the boundless evolution of the house.
Coralie’s immediate goals are to bridge the gap between the brand's e-commerce platform and its brick-and-mortar and grow Charriol’s digital reach, to redesign the house’s iconic St. Tropez watch, and to release several jewelry collections, a cable watch bracelet for the Apple watch, and new watch dial animations.
We interview Coralie to get insights on how
she gets inspired curating watches, handbags, and how she fuels her passion in gemology and design.
HOW DID YOU GET INTERESTED IN THE JEWELRY INDUSTRY?
For me, jewelry is a family affair. My father worked in the industry, and I grew up around his creative energy, constantly designing new watches and jewelry collections in his home office.
After graduating from Tufts University in Boston, I joined the family business - first on the creative team and then taking on more business management as time went on. I do think there is something about having grown up around watchmakers and watch lovers that gives you an edge.
TELL US A BIT ABOUT CHARRIOL, THE ORIGINS AND USPS.
Charriol was founded by my father, Philippe, four decades ago. We are a family-owned, family-run company so there is a lot of authenticity and passion behind everything we do. Our motto is “L’Art de Vivre la Difference”, and I think that really embodies the Charriol ethos - to live a life with meaning and purpose, but also with a bit of flair.
Our pieces are all handmade and of the highest quality materials, but we design for everyday easy wear, nothing precious that feels outof-touch with modern life. Saint Tropez has always held a special place in the brand story, the easy, casual luxury of a French seaside town.

| 44 | Global Trend Monitor
IS THERE A STYLE THAT GOT YOU MOTIVATED TO START DESIGNING?
I have always had a hand in our creative process, but in the last few years had the opportunity to revisit and relaunch some of our classic, best-selling watches. This year, we launched the St Tropez 20, 25 and 30updating some of the hardware and offering a really lovely mix of colorways. I think our house codes are very strong and so I get a lot of ideas from just revisiting the archives.
ARE THERE ANY FASHION ACCESSORIES YOU CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT?
I start everyday with my watch and build my look around that. I am so lucky to have a really wonderful collection, so I have something for every mood and occasion.
I also love earrings and think they go so far in brightening up a look. Everything else is built on those two pieces. Then I top off the look with sunglasses, et voila!
WHAT IS THE DRIVING FORCE BEHIND YOUR SUCCESS?
I really believe in action. Even if you make mistakes, the best thing you can do is to just keep moving. I’m a morning person and I do my best thinking then. But really it’s about believing in yourself and knowing that as long as you’re putting in the work, things fall into place.
WHAT ARE SOME CURRENT TRENDS THAT INTEREST YOU?
Our Mariner Collection features some incredible linked chains that have been very
popular, and I think are very on trend. It is interesting to see mixed metals being used more often. I love that style.
ANY KEY CHALLENGES YOU FACE IN YOUR JOB?
We are a small team and I wear many hats. It keeps me motivated and really energized, but it’s a lot to take on while raising three kids and taking care of myself. But ultimately, I’m a people person and I believe in hiring a good team and staying nimble and creative.
DO YOU HAVE A ROLE MODEL OR SOMEONE YOU ADMIRE IN YOUR FIELD?
Diane von Furstenberg. She is the pinnacle. Gracious, stylish, generous, and fierce.
ANY UPCOMING PLANS AND PROJECTS/COLLECTIONS?
Of course! We’re always thinking of the future. We have some really special watches coming out in 2023 and 2024.
And I am really excited about the work we’re doing on digital. Maybe a Charriol TikTok isn’t far off.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT YOUR JOB?
When I get to travel and meet the many people who have remained loyal to the brand and really understand the spirit of Charriol, I feel so grateful to have dedicated my life to this company that my dad founded. Owning your own business means never really turning off, but in those moments, it’s very worth all the hard work.

AN ODE TO THE ETERNAL CLASSICISM OF THE 1920S
FRÉDÉRIQUE CONSTANT - CLASSICS CARRÉE AUTOMATIC
Fashion comes and goes … something that Frédérique Constant always remembers. Just a century ago, in the early 1920s, watches escaped the jacket pocket and slipped onto the wrist. More than just evolution, it was a revolution. A diverse array of hitherto unimagined shapes, straps, clasps and sizes were invented.
Three new versions of the Classics Carrée Automatic take the collection back to its original era, the roaring 1920s, which unveiled a stylistic audacity whose influence is still perceptible today. Extremely refined, these rose gold-plated or stainless-steel timepieces exhibit a minimalist style with baton indexes, dauphine hands, and date. The dial with its subtle guilloché motif lends the
Those who were not yet called designers pursued new areas of graphical expression. The pocket watch, round and deliberately oversized, belonged to a bygone era. The break was complete: a necessary release from the form as well as the format. A new shape appeared: the rectangle.
This form lasted an entire century and not the quietest one at that — until it reached the shores of modernity. Because watchmaking loves simple designs like circles, including the rectangle and the square. It is this truly timeless design that Frédérique Constant has revisited today.
The Classics Carrée Automatic has been further refined, and significantly so. The first major change: the Heart Beat aperture has now been closed, once again concealing the wellkept secret of the timepiece’s Swiss Made mechanism. The face of a new sleeker dial is revealed. The large Roman numerals give way to applied indexes, with a double index at 12 o’clock. This timeless style is much closer to the aesthetic canons of the 1920s.
Yet at 6 o’clock, a discreet additional complication recalls the necessities of everyday life. This new date aperture echoes the rectangular line of the case. It is surrounded with a frame in the same finish as the case, which is also echoed by the indexes.
WATCHES | 46 | Global Trend Monitor
Classics Carrée Automatic a rare elegance for collectors with a discerning eye for aesthetics.
The centre of the dial concentrates the most refined finishes. This rectangle, mirroring the proportions of the 30.4 mm x 33.3 mm case, is surrounded by a ‘railroad’ type dialtrain typical of the 1920s and the Art Deco movement that flourished during that period. It is decorated with very fine grooves, visible only to the eye of its owner.
This subtlety provides a better contrast to the interplay of the three hands. The hour and
minute hands are fashioned in the dauphine style, a silhouette also characteristic of the last century. This simple, refined shape allows time to be read accurately in all situations due to two facets oriented at two different angles, such that one of them always catches the light. Everything is regulated at 3 o‘clock via an onion crown, as was found on almost all watches up to the middle of the last century.
The new Classics Carrée Automatic are
power reserve of 38 hours.
The most understated and classic variant comes with a steel case, silver-coloured dial, and black leather strap, while the most modern has an identical case and a blue dial along with a matching-coloured strap, topstitched in blue.

Highlight cars from the collection include the 1958 BMW 507 Roadster Series II, one of just 252 examples produced. The 507 is unquestionably one of BMWs finest creations and a model highly coveted by collectors, being one of the most flamboyant of BMW’s post-war designs and the epitome of a stylish 1950s roadster.
If the 507 was an avant-garde design in-period, the 1980 BMW M1 positively threw the BMW design rule book out
of the window. Mid-engined and with stunning Giugiaro styling, the timeless design seems to have barely aged and represents BMW’s first genuine foray into the supercar market.
The car on offer was built for the head of BMW Motorsport, Jochen Neerpasch, and was finished in the unique colour combination of Grey over a Brown interior. It is a world-famous and exceptional road-going example in a stunning colour combination, and a car which was displayed on the world-famous concours lawns of the 2013 Villa d’Este Concours d’Elegance.
Among the pre-war BMWs on offer is a beautiful 1936 BMW 319/1 Roadster, a stunning and highly capable car, and the model which established BMW as a leading manufacturer of highly
engineered, refined, and fast sports cars. The 319/1 really formed the basis upon which BMW developed the legendary 328 roadster, and today the 319 remains a highly regarded and very collectable prewar sports car.
Fast forward to 1975 and the 1975 BMW 3.0 CSL ‘Batmobile’ is another instantly recognisable sports car that represented the peak of BMW performance road cars in-period. The 3.0 CSL ‘Batmobile’ was the ultimate performance derivative of the 3.0 CSL, the lightweight aluminium-bodied variant of the standard 3.0 pillarless coupé. Today, this BMW remains an impressive performer on the road.
Also offered is a pre-production 1990 BMW 850 CSi that was first owned by BMW for testing purposes, providing fascinating

provenance for marque enthusiasts. The car’s second owner was the BMW racing driver and Ayrton Senna’s teammate, Johnny Cecotto. Undeniably one of the most coveted E31 BMWs in existence and offered in the stylish colour of Drake Brown Metallic. The collection continues to offer some exceptional examples of some of BMW’s most interesting models and also features a 1999 BMW Z8.
The collection also features a selection of marques representing other areas of BMW’s business. This includes a highly desirable 1966 Austin Mini Cooper S Mk I, very much the original Mini to have, as well as a 1934 Rolls-Royce Phantom II Owen Drophead Sedanca Coupé with Coachwork by Gurney Nutting, which is believed to be one of just 12 produced.
The full collection features a wide range
of ‘M’ cars, competition derivatives, roadsters, pre-war models, and pre- and post-war motorcycles, all of which offers collectors a fascinating opportunity to acquire fine examples from across the entirety of BMW’s incredible history, beginning with a 1928 Dixi 3/15 DA-1 Open Tourer, the Austin 7 variant that was the genesis of BMW’s motor car manufacturing.

EXTRAORDINARY DESIGN THE NEW PEARL 72
YACHT | 58 | Global Trend Monitor
The hotly anticipated Pearl 72 launched at Florida’s famous Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show - with two master cabins, four ensuite guest cabins, and a crew cabin, plus a garage large enough for tender and a jet ski, the Pearl 72 certainly enjoyed a gracious reception.
Fresh from her completed sea trials, she is already cruising around the sunshine state, getting acquainted with the beautiful coastal waters. The American market is increasingly important for the British brand as its dealer network expands to meet growing demand, with the recent addition of Jeff Brown Yachts joining Atlantic Yacht & Ship as Pearl’s US dealers.
The latest edition of Bill Dixon’s coordinated exterior design and naval architecture is well-matched by the celebrated new interior design theme “Indulgence” by Kelly Hoppen CBE.
In terms of layout, the Pearl 72 makes a unique introduction to the size-class: two Master Cabins. One is forward with a private entrance, as typically seen on much larger yachts, and the second is full beam amidships.
In addition to providing an ideal solution for co-owners who enjoy the yacht together, the innovative layout allows owners to enjoy a beautiful view even when moored stern-to in a marina.
There are two further ensuite double cabins plus accommodation for the crew, in addition to an exceptional garage with
space for a William 345 tender (or similar) and a jet ski.
MODERN EXTERIOR DESIGN
About the 22-metre Pearl 72 with a 5.7-metre beam, Exterior Designer Bill Dixon said, “Every element of the 72’s design follows from the core identity that she is a Pearl. But with this new yacht, we have evolved to a higher level.
The hull glass has been expanded for a more modern look, combined with the sporty stance which she inherited from the recent Pearl 62 – a marker of the new generation.
The lines are as elegant as ever, now a bit sleeker and more streamlined, and the use of spheric glass gives her curves in all the right places. As for the layout, we were as
shrewd as ever to use the available space to our maximum advantage.”
REINVENTING THE PEARL LOOK WITH EACH NEW MODEL
Kelly Hoppen Interiors has continued to refine the design of Pearl Yachts, taking the world-famous look one step further with the introduction of a new interior theme - “Indulgence”. The design intent of this yacht was to capture New York City urban living on water while enhancing and working with the incredible mechanical features that have been achieved.
An array of materials including high gloss veneers, satin stones and contrasting metal detailing has been used and layered throughout to set up enchanting reflections and luxurious tones that fuse the ocean and interiors together.

THE WORLD’S MOST VERSATILE AIRCRAFT BELL BOEING V-22 OSPREY
The development of new technology is central to the integration and transformation of military operations. Proven throughout history with examples like the speed and range of vehicles, the efficiency of production, or innovation of new ideas to solve previously unsolvable problems, technology has radically shaped national and global defense strategies. The most versatile and gamechanging technologies have enabled operators to complete more tasks with less economic and physical resources.
One such revolutionary piece of technology is tiltrotor, exemplified by the V-22, the Osprey combines the vertical takeoff, hover, and vertical landing qualities of a helicopter with the long-range, fuel efficiency, and speed characteristics of a turboprop aircraft. The Osprey’s multi-mission advantage across a full range of military operations means fewer resources are required to complete more tasks, improving
AVIATION
| 60 | Global Trend Monitor
mission efficiency and reducing logistic costs. From 1984 through 2007 over twenty studies compared the V-22 to all currently available and proposed rotorcraft and showed the V-22 as the most cost-effective solution.
With over 400 aircraft accumulating 650,000 flight hours for the U.S. military alone, the world’s only military tiltrotor in production enhances versatility and interoperability throughout the world.
Initially developed as an aircraft for the United States Marine Corps to conduct combat and assault support, the Osprey ensures that service members can conduct diverse missions throughout the world’s most demanding operating environments.
The V-22 Osprey allows Marines to quickly deploy troops, equipment, and supplies from ships and land bases with the speed, range, and versatility not previously possible by any single platform. These characteristics offer the tactical flexibility to deploy with a smaller logistical footprint and without a runway to access unreachable areas with any other aircraft.
Being able to transport troops and equipment faster and with greater precision is just one benefit of the
Osprey. The tiltrotor also enhances capabilities for other types of missions where response time is critical.
Humanitarian Aid and Disaster Relief, HADR, missions immediately benefit from the enhanced speed, range, and precision. One such mission was Operation Damayan. After Super Typhoon Haiyan devastated parts of the Philippines in 2013, the 3rd Marine Expeditionary Brigade deployed the V-22 to provide assistance.
The V-22 stood out as the most capable
aircraft to support over a long distance by traveling more than 1,100 miles and providing immediate support in the disaster area. The Osprey’s helped evacuate 1,200 people and delivered 20 tons of critical supplies to areas where planes and helicopters couldn’t reach alone.
For more than 30 years, the Osprey has advanced single aircraft capabilities and radically enhanced mission capabilities. As the needs of the military continue to evolve to the modern world, so too does the Osprey.

COMFORTABLE AND AFFORDABLE BAIC BJ40 PLUS
Chinese automobile company BAIC is now in town with the BJ40 model that features an exterior design similar to the wrangler and an interior that is very different than most SUVs - it took me a while for instance to locate the engine start button but after that, it was a smooth ride.
Since 1984, BAIC and AMC produced JEEP series products. After decades of producing of military products, BAIC ORV started focusing on off-road SUV, with independent researching, developing, and producing technologies. We took the BJ40 for a few days and here's what we found out:
The car was great as a city car while driving but we noticed numerous off-road

features displayed on the dashboard for drivers with information about altitude, pressure, height, direction, and atmospheric pressure. This would be ideal for those who go out to the deserts for off roading and camping.
The high-performance Turbocharged 2.3T Engine and gear box 6AT transmission box supports four modes: ECO, Maximum power 184kw, maximum torque 350Nm while fuel consumption is 11.7 L per 100km.
Inside the car, we found ample space for the driver and the passengers while the trunk space was standard. The comfortable interior space is similar to a mid-size SUV and came complete with cup holders, power control windows, power doors, a sun visor with mirror, a digital clock and as we drove a lot during the day, the air conditioning system was effective.
The safety features include an Anti-lock braking system, electronic brake force distribution, parking sensors, anti-roll cage, airbags, central locking system, and a hill hold control system. The car is affordable and reasonable for the features it offers.
Overall, the drive experience was comfortable with good handling and practical for everyday use.
