After Hurricane Dorian devastated Grand Bahama, it became clear that recovery isn't just about rebuilding, it's about rethinking how and where we live.
This project proposes a resilient, off-grid community in East Grand Bahama: a place where solar power, rainwater harvesting, elevated homes, and restored mangroves work together to create a safer, more sustainable future.
An adapted reuse of the abandoned missile base library site, the project acts as both a model and a call to action — tackling vulnerabilities like storm surge, weak infrastructure, informal land ownership, and the gap between emergency response and long-term recovery.
The housing prototypes are designed to balance Bahamian cultural pride with emergency practicality — permanent in feel, flexible in use, and tied to the landscape.
Guided by interviews with local experts, the design leans on public-private partnerships, local contractors, and nature-based solutions, proving that resilience grows strongest when it's built from the inside out.
